It could be--in /dev with FreeBSD 4.8, I see acd0a, acd0c, acd1a and
acd1c. This is probably different under 5.x.

Also, cdrecord -scanbus doesn't show anything...
cdrecord is for SCSI, or if you are using atapicam to emulate SCSI with
IDE devices.
Thanks Warren,

But as I said, there is only acd0 in /dev. No /dev/acd0c is created (I use
5.1-current).

/dev/acd0c does not exist in -CURRENT. Use /dev/acd0 instead.

Bus error - FD or msdos HD mount

2003-02-02 Thread guillaume
hello,
i'm beginning in the FreeBSD world, and i can't mount my
floppy disk and my Win98 hard disk.

i tape: # mount -t msdos /dev/ad0s1 /hdibm
or: # mount -t msdos /dev/fd0.1440 /floppy

and i get "Bus error" and a core file.

my Win98 disk is bootable (only 1 partition - FAT32, 12.6 Go) and
connected in master to the primary IDE.
my floppy is a classic 1.44 Mo and i want to read MSDOS formated
floppies.
of course i have the 2 special files in /dev, and i created the mount
directories.
i have access to these disks with fsck_msdosfs or disklabel.

i followed all the procedure to format and mount a new MSDOS
floppy disk but i always have this error.

i haven't these problems with my CDROM and my bootable FreeBSD
disk.

for information i can reproduce this error when i try to mount one of
my FreeBSD partition as a MSDOS partition
( # mount -t msdos /dev/ad3s1g /tmp ).

(i'm under FreeBSD 4.7)

does somebody know how to resolve this problem?

thank you!

well, i have send the details of my problem on a few lists some days ago

___

hello,
since i get no answer in fr.comp.os.bsd,
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

not too off-charter.

i can't mount my floppy disk and my Win98 hard disk.

i tape: # mount -t msdos /dev/ad0s1 /hdibm
or: # mount -t msdos /dev/fd0.1440 /floppy
(or with ad0c, fd0c, ...)

and i get "Bus error" and a core file.

my floppy is a classic 1.44 Mo and i want to read MSDOS formated

for information i can get the same error when i try to mount one of

(i'm under FreeBSD 4.7)

___

when i try to mount a msdos partition with sysinstall-Label (i talk
about 4.7 again) i get:
"Segmentation fault (core dumped) or devtype -
#DEBUG: MakeDev: Unknown major/minor"
and i get out of sysinstall.

now with 5.0 and extended partitions:
i created with fdisk or PartitionMagic a FAT16 primary partition (type
6) and an extented partition (type 15). inside this extented partition i
created FAT32 logicals partitions (type 11). i installed Win98 on
these.
then i installed FreeBSD on my 2nd disk. in sysinstall-Fdisk, FreeBSD
show my extented partition (ad0s2) but not my logicals partitions. in
sysintall-label, it don't show my extented partition.
for example i have:
PartMount   Size   Newfs
   -
ad0s1 509MB  DOS
ad1s1a256MB  *
ad1s1b  swap496MB  SWAP
ad1s1e256MB  *
ad1s1f256MB  *
ad1s1g3224MB *

(a -> /; e -> /var; f -> /tmp; g -> /usr)
in /dev, i have ad0s2.

but i still can't mount my extented partitions (with 4.7 or 5.0). i

Hi,

Adobe does not provide any flash plugin for AMD64 arch ! :-(

That's the problem...

When running Linux, you have to install a i386 browser in your AMD64
Linux then install the flash plugin for this browser.

Try that:

---
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include

#define porta 0x378
#define portb 0x379

const char *filename;

int main(void) {

  int fd, data;

  filename = "/dev/io";
  fd = open(filename, O_RDWR);

   if (fd < 0)
   {
 printf("Erreur d'accès à %s\n", filename);
 exit(1);
   }

outb(porta, 0xFF);
sleep(1);
outb(porta, 0x00);

sleep(1);

data = (inb(portb));

printf("data = %x\n", data);

  close(fd);

  exit(0);

}
-----

Works with FreeBSD 5.x, I don't know with 4.x

You need to apply this patch

registry. If your PDC works with Win2000 client, it will work with
WinXP+registry hack.

Where are the config files stored?

2006-01-24 Thread Guillaume R.
Hello
I'm posting here coz I got this problem since a while and it's very disturbing.
I install a soft like postfix for example and I cant find the sample
config files which normally comes with the packages. Under linux the
sample are stored either in there right place (i.e.
/etc/postfix/main.cf) or in /usr/share/doc/myapp.
That's not right for freebsd and I cant find those sample for procmail
fetchmail or mutt for example. Is it normal or did I miss something?
If I miss something could anyone tell me what so that I correct that
to got my samples at new?
Many thx :)

User unknown?

2006-03-27 Thread Guillaume R.
Hello
I'm trying to setup (for the first time under FreeBSD!) my usual setup
to read my mail (postfix+fm+procmail+mutt)
But I got a serious problem: when I try to fetch the mails for my user
those mails dont go in /var/mail/my_user but *always* in
/var/mail/root...
I read all the mails I receive from the system and I could see that on
this box my_user is...unknown so I can't having those mails in a
normal way.
Does anyone could help me by telling me which files I must modify so
that it works (I suppose I got to change my hostname too but I cant
find any /etc/hostname file...)
Thx
PS:btw does anyone remember the option so that fetchmail fetch *all*
the mails (the one non-read and the other one read as well)?
Thx again

BCM4401-B0 card error on FreeBSD 5.2.1

2004-07-26 Thread Guillaume Goutaudier
Hi all,
I'm trying to move from Linux to FreeBSD on my compaq nx5000 laptop.
The FreeBSD version I installed is 5.2.1.
I have a problem with the integrated broadcom BCM4401-B0 NIC.
This is not a BCM4401 but a BCM4401-B0 card (PCI ID = 0x170c), and
the bfe driver does not seem to work:
In the dmesg output, I don't have a single line with "bfe0: ...".
Instead, all I have is:
pci1: at device 14.0 (no driver attached)
When I try to install the bfe module manually, I get:
# kldload miibus.ko
interface miibus.1 already present in the KLD 'kernel'!
kldload: can't load miibus.ko: file exists
# kldload if_bfe.ko
module_register: module pci/bfe already exists!
Module pci/bfe failed to register: 17
module_register: module bfe/miibus already exists!
Module bfe/miibus failed to register: 17
I'm not familiar at all with *BSD drivers stuff so any help will be
REALLY appreciated ...
cheers,
Guillaume

BCM4401-B0 card error on FreeBSD 5.2.1

2004-07-26 Thread Guillaume Goutaudier
bge gives me exactly the same error message.
And still nothing like "bge0: ..." in dmesg output.
Try bge.

Re: BCM4401-B0 card error on FreeBSD 5.2.1

2004-07-27 Thread Guillaume Goutaudier
I just recompiled a 4.10 kernel with bfe support.
I grab source code from http://people.freebsd.org/~dmlb/bfe-4.8.tar.gz
At boot time, I get:
pci1:  (vendor=0x14e4, dev=0x170c) at 14.0 irq 11
When I try to insert the driver manually:
module_register: module pci/bfe already exists!
linker_file_sysinit "if_bfe.ko" failed to register! 17
I think I'm gone go back to Linux...
cheers,
Guillaume

Side note: The bfe entry is not in the GENERIC kernel

find my broadcom 4401.

I'm thinking of ports that work with native BSD suites.

ok.

Does linuxpluginwrapper work with FBSD 5.x?

Yes, I'm using FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE.

Some questions about ports system

2005-11-26 Thread Guillaume R.
Hi
At the end of a portsclean -LPPDDC I got this:
** Clean out /usr/local/lib/compat/pkg manually on occasions.
** Try using libchk(1) (sysutils/libchk) to find out unreferenced libraries.
I'm asking thus some questions, the one is how could I clean manually
the /usr/local/lib/compat/pkg directory and the second is about the
nature of libchk. I got no man page on this soft and it doesn't seem
to be installed on my box. Before running it I wish to know what is
it? Could someone explain me what this software is and figure out is
utility for a system?
Finally I got a question about pkgdb, when I run it with the F options
I often have questions to which I have to answer thx to yes or no. I
never know what I must choose. I read the man page of pkgdb but it's
not clear in my mind could someone explain me how this soft works?
Many thx

Problem while patching a file

2005-11-28 Thread Guillaume R.
Hello
I'm trying to install the last version of emacs (to test Gnus!) on my
box. I've got a compil error, I made a search and found that thread:
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-ports/2005-September/025703.html
By reading the thread I could deduce that this patch seems to work
fine. I decided to apply it. And here is my problem: I don't know how
to patch correctly a file i suppose coz when i type:
patch src/xterm.c < mypatch.patch
Then the patch is not include in the file but simply copied at the top of it.
Could someone explain me how to patch correctly a file? And especially
where i could find some docs on diff/patch commands (apart man)?
Many thx

So why there is a 64int? We can suppose that perl has seen that Marc's proc
is a 64 one no?
I asked that cause I got a 64bits (amd) which run on a 32 bits mode and I
got oftenly such "i386-freebsd-64amd"

For example, I am using Gentoo, FreeBSD, Debian, ... I want to help people with
these but this is only for Ubuntu.

Are any people interested in starting such a project?

System hangs displaying "ata4 : DISCONNECT required"

2006-03-20 Thread Guillaume de Vinzelles
Hello,

I ran into a problem I don't know how to diagnose.
I got a FreeBSD 6.0 box using an Adaptec SATA (fake)RAID 1210SA. Two 250
GB Maxtor hard drives are connected to this card, as a RAID1 mirror, and
the resulting filesystem is correctly mounted and NFS exported.
When the traffic rises on those disks, especially when I copy a big file
(around 700 MB or so) on the exported file system, the system hangs
displaying "ata4 : DISCONNECT required". ata4 is the first SATA controller
on the Adaptec card. The card and the disks are brand new, and the
motherboard is a Tyan Tiger LE (dual Pentium 3).
Do you have any clue, or just maybe a way to analyse this problem ?
Should I post the dmesg, if that can help ?

Thanks in advance for any advices or clues.

Best Regards,

Guillaume de Vinzelles
