Re: [Freeswitch-users] [Dialplan?] Call either sent to VM or phone doesn't ring at all
More information: I can dial the default extensions like just fine. It's only when I call any of the IP phones (1001,1002,1003) that the call is immediately forwarded to the callee's voice-mail when the phone goes off the hook. To only keep the SIP messages in the fs_cli screen, typing "sofia loglevel all 0" followed by "sofia profile internal siptrace on" doesn't do the trick, so am unable to post the whole log yet. -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/-Dialplan---Call-either-sent-to-VM-or-phone-doesn%27t-ring-at-all-tp26892767p26903707.html Sent from the Freeswitch-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ FreeSWITCH-users mailing list FreeSWITCH-users@lists.freeswitch.org http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/listinfo/freeswitch-users UNSUBSCRIBE:http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/options/freeswitch-users http://www.freeswitch.org

I found the cause for #2: The GS phone was still configured to use NAT, even though both XLite and GS are located in the same, private LAN. Unchecking this on the GS phone solved the issue. Re: [Freeswitch-users] Context vs. profile?
Are you typing up something for posterity's sake? If so let me know. I'll be happy to proof-read the finished product and offer suggestions. Thanks much for the clarification. I'm used to writing short documentation when I learn a new tool, so 1) it helps me understand how it works, 2) I can perform a new install faster, and 3) it helps newbies get a head-start. So in short: - profiles = User Agents ("end points of a phone call", says Wikipedia) where each profile listens on a given IP/port so that a single Freeswitch server can handle several profiles concurrently, eg. one end-point for internal, authenticated users, and another end-point for incoming calls from a VoIP provider - contexts = tells what a caller can do; a call can go through multiple contexts during the length of the call. Re: [Freeswitch-users] [OpenZAP] Does Dahdi (ex-Zaptel) require Asterisk?
Thanks Russel for the tip. After more googling, I ended up figuring that /etc/dahdi/modules had to contain the list of drivers to load. For those interested, here's how to compile and install Dahdi (which doesn't need Asterisk at all, unlike some docs on the Net seem to imply due to references to /etc/asterisk/*.conf): 1. Download and unpack the Dahdi tarball 2. make all ; make install ; make config 3. cd /etc/dahdi/ 4. vi system.conf: #For France, single FXO module on TDM card loadzone= fr defaultzone = fr fxsks=1 5. vi modules: wcfxo wctdm dahdi 6. /etc/init.d/dahdi start 7. dahdi_cfg -vvv 8. ls -la /proc/dahdi/ Now, on to OpenZAP... Hello I'd like to install OpenZAP so I can use a TDM card with Freeswitch, but I'm getting a software error althought the TDM card seems detected (lspci -v OK). Thanks Mike for the feedback. If a user has a problem using my FS server, I'll check what client they have. For those interested, here's what RFC 3581 adds to SIP: "Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) operates over UDP and TCP, among others. When used with UDP, responses to requests are returned to the source address the request came from, and to the port written into the topmost Via header field value of the request. This behavior is not desirable in many cases, most notably, when the client is behind a Network Address Translator (NAT). This extension defines a new parameter for the Via header field, called "rport", that allows a client to request that the server send the response back to the source IP address and port from which the request originated." -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/IAX--Issues-connecting-road-warriors-with-SIP--tp26625105p26635842.html Sent from the Freeswitch-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ FreeSWITCH-users mailing list FreeSWITCH-users@lists.freeswitch.org http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/listinfo/freeswitch-users UNSUBSCRIBE:http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/options/freeswitch-users http://www.freeswitch.org
[Freeswitch-users] IAX? Issues connecting road warriors with SIP?
Hello In a thread back in March, I read that support for IAX in FreeSwitch is a bit of kludge and since there's not much demand for it, chances are it won't improve in the foreseeable future. So I'd like some feedback from users who routinely connect to a FreeSwitch server from various venues, ie. wifi hotspots at McD, Ethernet LAN in hotels, etc. (in my case, the FreeSwitch server is located in a private network behind a NAT router with SIP/RTP ports statically mapped.) Do you sometimes/often get issues where SIP (UDP5060) or RTP (UDPwhatever) ports fail being opened dynamically to work properly, or does SIP today really work well over NAT firewalls? [Freeswitch-users] Does OpenZap support CTR21?
Hello As an alternative to more expensive alternatives like OpenVox or Sangoma, I'd like to order an X100P clone from www.x100p.com for use in France. According to a PDF on the site, the reason this card gets bad reviews is that "the Silicon labs Si3012/Si3035 DAA chip used in the original Digium X100P card and low cost X100P clone cards only supports FCC mode. However, the Si3014/Si3034 DAA chip used on the X100P SE supports global line standards." As for software, "the Silicon labs Si3014/Si3034 DAA chip used in the X100P SE supports 600 Ohm impedance and complex impedance to meet CTR21 line standards. However, the Zaptel wcfxo driver only supports CTR21 mode with 600 Ohm AC termination, which may or may not be the correct setting depending on the country and the phone system in use." So... does someone know if OpenZap, which is apparently required in addition to Zaptel/Dahdi for FreeSwitch to work PCI TDM cards, supports CTR21? Thanks Antonio for the links on Acrosser and PCEngines. It seems like PCE's alix1d is a good solution, provided 256MB is enough to hold Linux + Freeswitch + some tiny LAMP stack. Re: [Freeswitch-users] Internal.xml using Public context/dialplan?
Thanks Brian. I'd like to make sure I finally got how dialplans, contexts, domains, SIP profiles, and extensions in the directory work together: "Freeswitch supports different SIP profiles in conf/sip_profiles/ ("internal.xml", "external.xml", etc.), which are loaded through conf/autoload_configs/sofia.conf.xml. Each profile maps to a domain, which corresponds to the part after @ (eg. "1...@192.168.0.1": The Freeswitch server is listening on 192.168.0.1, and this is the domain to which extension 1000 belongs.) Each profile also maps to a context (dialplan) located under conf/dialplan/. Note that, for security reasons, by default, all SIP profiles are set to use the Public context; Internal extensions must map to the Default (private) context explicitely through the "user_context" variable. Extensions are located under conf/directory/. Each sub-directory matches the domain to which an extension belongs. As set in conf/vars.xml, the default domain matches the server's IP address which itself maps to the Default domain, so all extensions that belong to this domain are located under conf/directory/default/." So, to be safe, the "context" parameter in internal.xml refers to the "public" dialplan, and extensions are expected to overrule this setting with "user_context"? I also assume that, by default, profiles expect extensions to authenticate, which would explain why external.xml has the setting "auth-calls" set to "false", while internal.xml doesn't have this setting at all? If I'm right, I think I finally figured it out. I was confused with profiles, contexts, extensions, and dialplans. Here's how I _think_ these four thingies work together: 1. conf/dialplan/ contain XML files. Each file contains a bunch of extensions. "context" is a synonym for "dialplan" 2. conf/sip_profiles/ contains SIP profiles, eg. Internal/Default and External/Outbound 3. conf/directory/ contains extensions: The name of the XML file corresponds to a profile (eg. default.xml matches conf/sip_profiles/default.xml. This means that any extension in conf/directory/default/ belongs to the Internal/Default SIP profile. Each extension contains a parameter "context" that matches a diaplan in conf/dialplan/ Here's a diagram: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8670/freeswitchdpprofext.jpg Did I get right this time? :-) -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Internal.xml-using-Public-context-dialplan--tp23175441p23197481.html Sent from the Freeswitch-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Freeswitch-users mailing list Freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/listinfo/freeswitch-users UNSUBSCRIBE:http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/options/freeswitch-users http://www.freeswitch.org

[Freeswitch-users] VIA messages?
Hello I'm reading the examples, and found one on how to use a Sipura SPA-2000: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Sipura_STUN I was wondering what the VIA messages mean, and whether I should enable those when the unit is used behind a NAT router. I thought Freeswitch would take care of NAT, but it looks like SIP devices have to be configured for this. Anybody knows what VIA messages are for? Some users might need to have remote SIP phones on the Net, behind their own NAT routers, so I need to know how to set things up so that SIP/RTP work OK even when both endpoints are NATted. However, I can map ports on the Freeswitch side so that the SIP and RTP ports are always open for remote SIP phones to connect to the server and VoIP gateway. It's just that remote SIP phones are off-limit (remote locations I don't have access to). mail-lists-2 wrote: > I THINK this depends on how you set it up. [Freeswitch-users] NAT between FS and remote SIP phone
Hello I'd like to know how to set things up when using the following scenario: - a VoIP gateway on the same LAN as the Freeswitch to handle incoming calls from a POTS line - a remote SIP phone somewhere on the Net - the FS server and the remote SIP phone are both behind a NAT router - the remote SIP user either doesn't have the computer skills to map ports on his NAT router, or doesn't have access to it (eg. staying in a hotel or connecting to FS from a wifi connection @ Starbucks) The questions I have: 1. What ports need to be mapped on each router? 2. If I understood it correctly, UPnP is a technology that can open ports dynamically. Are there ways to tell if a router supports UPnP, are there other ways to have a remote SIP phone work right out of the box, or are there cases where mapping ports manually is the only way to get SIP/RTP to work? 3. When a call comes from the POTS line and meant for the remote SIP extension... do RTP packets flow directly from the Linksys VoIP gateway to the remote SIP phone, or do they go through the FS server? Hello I'm reading through the articles on the wiki, and have a basic question about how Freeswitch handles the XML files: I noticed that conf/sip_profiles contains both internal.xml, internal/, and internal/example.xml: Does it mean that Freeswitch merges everything it finds in this location (in this case, stuff in internal.xml + internal/*.xml), or does it depend on what is included in freeswitch.xml? Thanks for the tip, but since this firewalls are a frequent issue with SIP, I think it'd be very useful if someone who has good experience with this wrote an article in the FS wiki for everyone to benefit. For instance, at this point, I don't know how data (SIP and RTP) flows between a remote SIP phone behind a NAT router, and a VoIP gateway located in the same LAN as a Freeswitch server both behind a NAT router.
