Re: [Megillot] Looking for Masorah Magna

2010-05-18 Thread dwashbur
Thanks to all who responded, I've managed to download a couple of them and will
sort them
out later. Meanwhile, the reason for the request, which may not actually be
applicable to
this list:

Someone has been trying to tell me that Gen 19:18 is one of something like 134
places
where scribes substituted Adonai for YHWH; the marginal note in BHS just has
the number,
there's no footnote, and I can't seem to find such a reference so far. This
guy claims that
this substitution is explained in the Masorah Magna. I'm trying to locate it
to see if he's got it
right. He gave me what's supposed to be the full list of passages where this
scribal
substitution is purported to have happened. I checked several of them against
preserved
passages in the DSS, and what I found does not support such a substitution
idea. Still, it
would be good to know if some (or all) of the Masoretes actually believed
such a thing.
Any help tracking down such a reference in the MM would be greatly appreciated!

In addition to the www.lulu.com version of Ginsburg's "The Massorah
compiled from manuscripts. . .", it's available free at
http://www.seforimonline.org/ Go to Seforim Database and search for
Ginsburg.

List members should be aware that Ginsburg's "complete Massorah." was
never finished The descriptive narrative of the Rubrics ends with /yod/
in volume 4.

Frensdorff's /Mah.beret ha-Masorah ha-gedolah /is available at Google Books.

Unfortunately, neither of these is searchable, but I have had limited
success in searching Ginsburg by using the indexing feature in my PDF
creator program.

Another brief reminder: No two Hebrew Bible manuscripts have identical
masorahs, either magna or parva. So Ginsburg, Frensdorff, and even Weil
are compilations from a variety of manuscript sources. Weil, of course,
is essentially Leningradensis, relating directly to his work as
masoretic editor for BHS.

Until recently I had a zip file with the complete Masorah Magna, whether

this happens
just about the time I need to consult it, and I can't seem to find a

help me find a downloadable copy? Preferrably something seachable...
