Summary: Cannot Connect socket/writing errors

Initial Comment:
for the last few months I have not been able to use GAIM. I figured I'd look
into it finally. I am using the windows version. I have installed 2 different
versions as of today, I don't remember what version I had installed when this
all started happening. 1.50 and now I have the latest beta6 installed. A couple
months ago, I couldn't get MSN to connect at all on this computer. I had the
same version installed on my laptop at work and it worked fine. Then after
about a month AIM stopped working on here as well. Yet it still works fine at
work. I did a 10min browse of the old posts and I didn't see anything that
applied.

I get "Connection error from Notification server: Writing error" for MSN, and I
get "Lost connection with server: Windows socket error #10107". Now I did
notice there was a post about the #10107 socket error, and someone suggested
that it was his firewall of some sorts. I have all my computer firewalls
turned off, but I have yet to mess with my router. I wouldn't think that port
forwading would need to be set up for this client to work? I also just
remembered that this has been happening for months, and I just got the router.
Also, when I try connecting with my yahoo account, it just hangs half way on
the connection meter and never errors out, just never connects. I use MSN
messenger Version 8.0 Build 8.0.0812.00 and I like the old school version of
AIM 2.8.3111

Windows XP v '02 w/ service pack 2
The only Firewall I ever use is the AMerican Family Association's
http://bsafehome.com/?13850 .
Windows Firewall has been off for quite a while.
