Re: [Haifux] Why not sharing the filmed lectures in bittorrent ?
On Sat, Oct 22, 2005, Orna Agmon wrote about Re: [Haifux] Why not sharing the filmed lectures in bittorrent ?: Actually, Nadav's essay has a complicated license. It is not a piece of code, but in a way a work of art. So he allows distribution as a whole, or quoting parts under his name, but the essay itself is not under the GPL. This is why I did not create lecture slides, but used his essay as a whole. However, it is the best text I have read for explaining the matter, and except the fact that it is not slides but an essay, it does not require any changes - it is written to be spoken, you can even speak it word for word. Just don't say your name is Nadav :) I didn't give much thought to the issue before I decided on the license I used. As must be obvious, I don't plan to sell this lecture ( :) ), or make any other profit from it, and so I won't lose anything if someone creates a different lecture based on it. So feel free to do it, if you wish, and I promise not to sue you :-) -- Nadav Har'El|Wednesday, Nov 2 2005, 30 Tishri 5766 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |- Phone +972-523-790466, ICQ 13349191 |Arguing with nyh just doesn't pay off. http://nadav.harel.org.il |-- Muli Ben-Yehuda, Linux-il list -- Haifa Linux Club Mailing List (http://www.haifux.org) To unsub send an empty message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Haifux] Lecture idea - WiFi (802.11) in GNU/Linux
Two components I was thinking of for this lecture - - An introduction to how WiFi is used in GNU/Linux (distro-independant, but with linux-wireless-utils, so not relevant BSD or Mac) - tools like iwconfig, iwlist, along with some information about the availability of wireless NIC modules - especially the ipw2200, which is included in all/most new Centrino laptops -- User-friendliness in these utilities - a summary of the problems with using the commandline for this (tedious and daunting for new users, not automated), a survey of current available solutions (UIs like netapplet, wifi_radar and my own netdlg, along with automated solutions such as hotplug, ifplugd, waproamd), pros and cons to each and what basically needs to be done to improve them. As you can tell by this stream of incoherent babbling, this idea is still being cooked so any input would be appreciated. -- If it wasn't for fog, the world would run at a really crappy framerate. RE: [Haifux] Lecture idea - WiFi (802.11) in GNU/Linux
Hi Ohad This lecture sounds VERY interesting and useful to me. Probably it could also include some references to SW APIs for wireless configuration on Linux, aside for command line or GUI utils. Anyway I think it could benefit a lot of people and I personally would be very happy to attend. Sounds good, especially if it was accompanied by another lecture on the wifi support in the kernel, different wifi standards, etc. Is anyone interested in preparing such a lecture? [Haifux] Re: [W2L] Weird Dates - SIL and BIL, and a request at the end
On Wednesday 02 November 2005 19:22, Orna Agmon wrote: Good Evening, All Haifux W2L lectures take place on Mondays, as it appears, at one week intervals. The Linux Day, however, seems to be on a Wednesday which is 16 days from the previous lecture. This means that December 19th is a free date, on which we will start scheduling regular Haifux meetings. On December 26th, two days before the intended Linux day, we will already be running SIL (Staying in Linux) lectures, which follow the W2L for the third year now. The gap which was created on Haifux's schedule, by the fact that the W2L lectures were postponed till November 21st, will be filled by a BIL lecture: Software Development in Linux, written by Shlomi Fish, given by me. See http://haifux.org/index.html Shlomi, as this lecture is given on other clubs as a W2L lecture, I would appreciate it if you could list it on the http://welcome.linux.org.il/timetable.html page. OK. People who lecture/study at the Technion and /or HaifaU, I would appreciate it if you could inform programming courses' students about the lecture, or better - encourage the teachers of such courses to send their students to the lecture.
