Indeed. If a hospital uploads my genome code, will it be as anonymous, or will
I be spammed (real medicine, quackery medicine, experimental medicine, etc) on
what I have in my genome code?

As Lizette and Ed said, please post all your FTP statements and all messages in
FTP session and in SYSLOG.

The user ID has got ACCESS=ALL to that particular Dataset.

It (word 'ALL') does not says anything to me. The id must have access of ALTER
to it and UPDATE to the relevant User Catalog.

You also did not said whether it is a dataset or an OMVS file.

Also, are you authorised to use the FTP command DELETE at all?

Hi Group,

We have three different Storage Boxes in our Data Center. I would like to

Are there any ways(Tools or any Product) to generate a report for this

We run DCOLLECT, process it with MXG and store the relevant variables in a SAS

You have DCOLLECT, you can use different tools to process and store the info.

I ask my storage administrator., he knows. ;-)
We're using free (in some sense) tools like DCOLLECT, REXX and
spreadsheet. I can check storage group utilization before batch, after
batch, etc.
Note: box utlization seems typical question asked by manager, but it can
be misleading. Assume, you have some space for PiT (Point in Time) copy

Jes3 CI queue

2014-11-12 Thread Icke, Nick
Hi

Wonder if anyone can advise or offer help. I myself an new to jes3

We have a job that is stuck in the Convertor/Interpretor dispatcher and have
been asked to cancel it.

1. I have tried both jes3 and mvs commands to cancel it, but it still
remains in the dispatcher, any suggestions how I can remove it?

2. How can I determine why it is stuck on there, I can see nothing in the
logs that give me a clue as to whats happening

And MXG Software, a SAS application that executes under SAS or WPS on z/OS or

Additionally, when you execute MXG on the ASCII platforms, you do not download
the
mainframe data first; instead you directly read all of the z/OS data files
(DCOLLECT, SMF, etc.) using the ftp access method, so you only need disk space
for the output SAS data sets.

2014-11-12 Thread Barkow, Eileen
You can use pre-set security by coding specifying a USERID in the TCT entry for
the console.
This id has to be authorized to use the CONSOLE and have access to any
transaction being run.
It is set u in RACF as a PROCTECTED USERID and no password is required for it.

At least CICS has been setup correctly that calls are made to RACF.

Looks like security issue, Pleas let me know what are all the steps i do to
overcome this .. We are using RACF security product. we are using z/os
1.11 and cics version 2.3.0 .

Did you went over to CICS-L for help?

It seemed to me you want to use CICS Default id. Rather setup a RACF id and
authorise it to the transactions you want to do.

Then you need to logon with that id on console and do your transactions.

Something like this:

F ?,CESN USERID=id which is NOT CICS Default,PS=?
F ?,CEMT ?

You really need to review the books about CICS and RACF. Go to IBM Library
Server for documentation.

I haven't dealt with IBM market types lately and was wondering how they
handled the customer when HW drops off support.

Do they come out and tell you that the units you have are going off support
(if
so how much warning do they give you?)

It would seem reasonable (to me anyway) that big ticket items they give you
a
year, on disk drive 6-8 months(?) so you can get replacements and migrate
over to the new drives or do they just let items fall off the list and when
you
want service do they tell you tough luck?

Subject: Re: Fwd: Re: Doug Nadel snippet

Could you achieve a similar result by using the new find r'regex'
regular expression syntax in z/OS 2.1?

Doug Nadel's macro works without modification on z/OS 2.1.

A regex can be used fo find a COBOL variable, like for example 'abc' in a set
of lines containing other COBOL variables like 'x-abc' and 'abc-x'.

find r'[^a-z0-9-]abc[^a-z0-9-]'

would find all occurrences of variable 'abc' except those at the beginning or
end of a line.

find r'(^|[^a-z0-9-])abc($|[^a-z0-9-])'

seems to handle those exceptions, even though these uses of ^ and $ are not in
the ISPF EDIT documentation.

Using a regex like that with a CHANGE command introduces a problem because the
various separators around the string 'abc' would be lost in the changes. That
includes commas, periods, parentheses, colons, etc. They would be removed or
changed to a specified replacement character in STRING2 that doesn't vary with
what the original separator was. The sed command can use backreferences to
handle that, but ISPF CHANGE doesn't allow STRING2 to be a regex.

TS3584 and TS1120 encryption

2014-11-12 Thread Pommier, Rex
Hi list,

We have an existing 3584 tape library with encryption-capable TS1120 tape
drives installed in it. We haven't used encryption up to this point, but are
trying to get encryption started. We don't want to encrypt everything going to
the TS1120s, but want to, for example, encrypt our backup tapes, but leave our
HSM ML2 tapes unencrypted. We also obviously need to read older unencrypted
tapes. From reading several manuals, I thought I would need to set up a new
data class specifying EEFMT2 as the data format instead of the EFMT2 format we
are currently using. The doc also seemed to indicate that I could use the same
physical library and drives to read/write both data formats.

It appears as though I need to make changes to the CBRUXENT OAM exit to allow
use of encrypted tape format. Is this correct?

Do I need to set a range of tapes to be used solely for encryption and a
separate range for unencrypted tapes? Do I need to define which tapes will be
used for encryption ahead of time and define that into the CBRUXENT exit?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Rex

Re: UNABLE TO COPY PDS.

2014-11-12 Thread CM Poncelet

Paul Gilmartin wrote:

On Wed, 12 Nov 2014 02:49:45 +, CM Poncelet wrote:

Just a couple of points.

  * The IEBGENER to a PDS.(member) will most likely have made the
situation worse by *not* restoring the original (corrupted)
directory but instead creating a new one. If so, and if the
IEBGENER was run against the original PDS (instead of against a
'mirror image' copy of it), then try to restore the original PDS
from an earlier full DASD volume backup and start again.

No. It will add an entry for a new member in the existing directory
or update the entry for an existing member. It will update the label
(F1 DSCB?) if the attributes different.

It will add a new member, or update the entry for an existing member, if
the 'existing directory' still exists as a directory (and does not need
to be restored). But I am not sure it exists. If I understood correctly,
after the IEBGENER, there was only 1 member in the PDS (from an earlier
posting If as you said, you used IEBGENER (writing a NEW member using
the correct DCB) to correct the problem and you still can't read the
members, then it is probably not fixable.) The question is, what is the
sequence of events that preceded 'UNABLE TO COPY PDS' - i.e. what was
the PDS when it could be copied?

  * Copy the restored original PDS to a different DSN and apply/verify
all tentative fixes only to the copy and *not* to the original PDS
itself. This copy could be done by IEBCOPY'ing the PDS to a flat
file and then IEBCOPY'ing this flat file to a new PDS with a JCL
LIKE=original PDS.

Won't IEBCOPY itself restore the attributes. Will it fail if the attributes
are incompatible?

That depends on what the problem is. E.g. a PDS can be created/populated
with RECFM=FB,LRECL=80,etc. A member can then be specified as the
SYSPRINT output of running, say, a batch LISTCAT. The LISTCAT output
with RECFM=FBA,LRECL=133 (if memory serves) will then be browsable in
the PDS, but the previous members (those with LRECL=80) will not. If the
PDS's DCB/DSCB is then overwritten to be RECFM=FB,LRECL=80, the original
members will be browsable again but now the LISTCAT member will not.
Writing members with DCB LRECL=8 to 27998, and with all permutations of
RECFM and BLKSIZE as well, would show there are 1,000's of ways of
corrupting a PDS even though it would still be a PDS. So, potentially
destructive 'fix' testing should be performed only on copies of the PDS
that has to be fixed - to avoid losing the original one while fixing it.
I do not know whether IEBCOPY would fail, but suggested using ADRDSSU if
it did. IEBCOPY could not restore a 'one size fits all' attribute to
cover both the FB80 and FBA133 ones above.

... If that fails, try backing up the original
PDS via PGM=ADRDSSU and restoring it from the ADRDSSU backup to a
new PDS DSN - then verify any would-be fix on the copy before
fixing the PDS itself.

  * ... But RECFM=U is for load modules (LMODs).

Or whatever else the programmer chooses to use it for.

Of course. But when there is BLKSIZE=32760, then BLKSIZE=27920, then
RECFM=U, then RECFM=VBA, I try to make some sense of it.

Re: TS3584 and TS1120 encryption

2014-11-12 Thread Russell Witt
 Rex,

I don't know of a need to make any changes to CBRUXENT for what you are
planning on doing, especially if all the TS1120 drives inside the robot and
encryption capable. Even if a TS1120 is EJECTED (to go offsite) and is then
returned (INSERTED) and the VOLCAT (TCDB) entry for that specific volume had
been deleted after it had been EJECTED it won't make a difference. If the
INSERT assigns it to a non-encrypted Data Class, that will not affect it's
ability to be read on any of the TS1120 drives inside the robot. If some of
your drives were the original 3592 non-encryption drives; that might be an
issue. But since all your existing TS1120 drives are already encryption-capable
- no problem.

Likewise there is no need for two separate ranges of tapes. Doesn't matter if
volume V12345 was originally a non-encrypted tape, then was used for encryption
and later was used-again (after going scratch of course) as a non-encrypted
tape. Just like Virtual-WORM and Replication. If controlled by Data Class it
can switch on and off, so each usage is different.

Personally I don't think it's design was to save paper.
I think it was to 'be concise'.
And that is what I think it needs to be.

As for reorganizing it into different chapters, that might be useful.
But we cannot afford to have it lose its concise nature.

And it used to only be a couple of hundred pages or so. So while I
fundamentally agree with Mr. Capps' stance, that it's not necessarily broken,
I do think the book could use some rework. It's pretty painful to use at times.

Let me turn the question around, though: how would a reorg necessarily make it
less concise? It's hard to see describing a 1,500-page book as concise...

Hey, I'd be happier if it just did a page eject before each instruction, and
went to single-column format! That would make it longer, but more readable on
screens. Hm, is it HTML-ized? If so, that would likely solve both of those
requirements...no, wait, it would have the horrible TOC-on-the-left that makes
IBM online doc so hard to use. OK, without that, maybe...

I defined ECART as a new ESOTERIC pointing to the same tape devices (my 3584
with the TS1120s) as the esoteric CART. If I change the JCL to use UNIT=CART,
it works just fine. So I thought maybe my ECART hadn't taken, so I tried
changing the JCL to UNIT=JUNK (a non-existent ESOTERIC) and got a completely
different error.

My encryption data class is identical to my non-encryption DC except it defined
the format as EEFMT2 and the other EFMT2. I am using the same management
class, storage class, and storage group for both data classes (tested through
the SMS test routines).

Any idea what I'm missing? I'm sure it will be something of a head-slapper
when it is pointed out to me, but for now I can't see the forest for the trees!

Thanks,

Rex

If some of
your drives were the original 3592 non-encryption drives; that might be an
issue. But since

As Radoslaw noted, ATAM is a great answer in such a setup.

2014-11-12 Thread J O Skip Robinson
We have been sharing tapes among systems for decades. Parallel sysplexes,
monoplexes, basic sysplex in the mix. Multiple data centers connected via
'channel extension' (technology evolved over the years). Any system in the
enterprise can allocate any tape drive.

STK/Oracle tape, not IBM. Originally CA1, now RMM. CA MIA (MIM Allocation). STK
HSC+. A few shared DASD volumes required but not GRS or similitude.

If you have this sort of configuration--no promises for IBM gear--then yes,
it's perfectly doable. But it's not for the faint of heart. ;-)

Re: SMP/E APPLY output capture question

2014-11-12 Thread J O Skip Robinson
Chuck,

I have not read all posts in this thread, but I hope you can sense the tone of
impatience. You're not asking for the secret to brain surgery. (Is there one?
Did I miss my true calling?)

I've been doing what you seem to want for decades, through umpty-ump z/OS and
SMPE releases. So have others. My SMPE proc does contain DD cards for all the
standard print data sets as SYSOUT=* . I've never tried it without the DD
cards. It's a finite set that never changes between releases. No big deal. Code
once and you're done. The job contains

//TSAF  OUTPUT DEST=TSAF,JESDS=ALL,DEFAULT=Y

'TSAF' happens to point to an RYO sysout archiver, but that's beside the point.
All SMPE sysout ends up in the spool with that virtual destination. All without
slicing into anyone's brain.

Subject: Re: SMP/E APPLY output capture question

See, that's the rub.
As I understand SMP/E, if there is no DD in the JCL, then SMP/E will allocate
based on the DDDEFs.
If there is a DD in the JCL, then SMP/E will use it.

The first attempt at capturing the output was to do exactly as you indicated.
That didn't work for whatever reason, and I say it that way because not only
did I get no output on SYSPRINT, I did not get any errors reported on the JES
log, SYSMSGs, SMPOUT or SMPRPT.

And, I'm using a usermod that APPLYs with a return code of 0 and an assembly
listing as well as a link map.

That's why I'm so confused about what's going on here. The CSI definitions are
fine when I don't try to capture the output but when I supply my own DD
statements I get nothing.

It's just not making sense to me why things aren't working as I would expect.

I don't know if it's a release thing or not. We're running z/OS 1.13 and SMP/E
36.38.

 No, at least not intentionally.
When I run my usermod using no changes to the CSI and/or JCL, the
output is directed, via the MSGCLASS parm on the JOB statement to
class X, which is a hold queue. When I modify the output requirements
to go to another class, class F in this case, it, too, is a held class
that our Production Control personnel receive output in that has to be
reviewed and then, if it passes muster, is filed into their source control
 system.

In the off chance that that was the case, I added HOLD=YES on the DD
statement for SYSPRINT, but whether that worked or not, I can't say as
I never received any output on that DD when I ran my APPLY, which is another
issue I had pointed out in previous replies.

Frankly I am confused as to what is happening since what I am wanting
to do should be very straight forward.

Indeed, JCL overrides just work.

Assuming you have DDDEFs for all required datasets, your APPLY job that works
could be as simple as:

//jobname JOB acctg.info,MSGCLASS=X,...
//stepname EXEC PGM=GIMSMP[,REGION=0M[,...]] //SMPCSI DD
DISP=SHR,DSN=my.smp.global.csi //SMPCNTL DD * SET BDY(tgtzone) .
APPLY S(usermod) ASSEM REDO .
/*

Based on your descriptions, you get your //SYSPRINT output in class X.

To get your //SYSPRINT output into class F, you need only add one JCL statement:

//jobname JOB acctg.info,MSGCLASS=X,...
//stepname EXEC PGM=GIMSMP[,REGION=0M[,...]] //SMPCSI DD
DISP=SHR,DSN=my.smp.global.csi //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=F === add this
statement //SMPCNTL DD * SET BDY(tgtzone) .
