Re: [jasperreports-questions] How to get rid of NullPx image in html report
Hi, Please post your questions on the community website at: http://community.jaspersoft.com/answers?f[0]=field_question_project%3A202 You can use the JRXhtmlExporter instead or configure the HTML one to not make use of images to align by setting the following custom property: http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/config.reference.html#net.sf.jasperreports.export.html.using.images.to.align But if one day you'll have reports that indeed have images, then you better learn how to configure the image servlet in your application, by looking at our /demo/samples/webapp and demo/samples/webapp-repo samples shipped with the JR Library distro. I hope this helps. Teodor Pe 05.11.2012 21:03, jsb26 a scris: I am using iReport 4.7.1. I include jaspert report (report.jasper) created by iReport in my java project. [jasperreports-questions] Silent print of PDF report without opening at client/browser
Hi I'm trying to get a silent print of my PDF report at client/browser. Unfortunately, I can't be quite successful in this. My silent print command comes to browser with the PDF document and when I open this there's a dialog stating this document is trying to print, now if I click ok, the document gets printed. But I need to print the document silently without opening and without showing any dialog (not download dialog too). The code block for setting exporter with silent print parameter is as follows: OutputStream outputStream = new FileOutputStream(outputFile); exporter = new JRPdfExporter(); exporter.setParameter(JRPdfExporterParameter.CHARACTER_ENCODING, UTF-8); exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.JASPER_PRINT, jp); exporter.setParameter(JRPdfExporterParameter.PDF_JAVASCRIPT,this.print({bUI: false,bSilent: true,bShrinkToFit: false});); exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.OUTPUT_STREAM, outputStream); exporter.exportReport(); Can anyone help me resolve this or at least let me know if it's possible or not? [jasperreports-questions] simple jasper report in java without a database.
Dear all, I hope you are doing good. I would like to know whether we can generate a jasper report in java http://www.javaranch.com/ without using any database connection. I know we can generate jasper report in java with database connection. I have generated few reprts in .pdf and .xls format. Now I want to display some text on the the jasper report in java without database, say hello jasper. I am using ireport. I have creaated a file and in that file, I have added a title in the title section $P{Report_title} . Now in the program, i am declaring a hashmap and trying put value in the hasmap like, hm.put(Report_title,Hello Report); Later I am declaring JasperPrint like as follows. JasperPrint print=JasperFillManager.fillReportToFile(fileName, outFileNamePDF, hm); Here I am having problem about type mismatch:cannot convert from void to JasperPrint. I am not fully familiar with JasperReport API. I am trying to learn it with some simple examples first. In order to get the data on the report what I am supposed to do? Passing value from hashmap? Or shall use any collections? I would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks in advance. Please find the code. [jasperreports-questions] Re porting from the Cloud?
Hi, I am new to Jasper so perhaps what I am asking is obvoius but I have the following scenario and want to know how to go about implementing it: 1. Hosted cloud computing commercial (not inhouse) application with monolithic secure database serving multiple companies written in Servoy. 2. Each company must only see their own data. 3. Must allow any user to report on data from our application 4. Users are able to customise their reports some how from the server. So, - How do they get to the report to customise? - How do they send the customisations back to the server? - Where do we store the customisations inluding logos etc? - What are the security implications? - Do they need to load iReports or something else locally to do the customisations or can we access something on the cloud for a secure rpeort customisation envuironment? - How do we pass over the database schema etc in order for them to customise the reports? - And finally, these users are not Jasper experts so I would ideally like to provide a canned , simplified environment for them to make these customisations. I would imagine the above to be a typical example of reporting issues being faced by any company hosting a multi-copany commercial application in the cloud that requires user customisable reporting. Hope someone can help. Re: [jasperreports-questions] Custom Components
The JasperReports user guide (see information on it at http://www.jaspersoft.com/jasperreports-ultimate-guide) contains an explanation of the barcode component in the form of a tutorial. Writing a custom component is indeed rather complicated. The best thing to do is to start from an existing component (like the barcode one), do some step-by-step debugging to understand what and when each part of the component implementation does and then start to implement your own component. Writing a plugin for iReport UI support is a different thing, I'm afraid I can't offer any information on that. Regards, Lucian Michi Doswald a scris: Hello, I'm trying to create reports with integrated wavedata (ECG curves) graphics. The charts available in jasper reports are not capable enough to display the ecg data the way I want it (at least it seems so). That's why I wanted to write my own "Custom Component" for jasperreports. I read that the Barcode component is also implemented as a Custom Component. And I saw that it should be possible to use such components in the iReport application by writing a NetBeans module. I already tried to figure out how to do it by looking at the Barcode and List source code in jasperreports as well as reading the jasperreport API (3.7.0). But its seems to be quite complicated to write such a custom component. Are there any tutorials, books or other documentation about that? [jasperreports-questions] Two JRDataSources in single report?
We usually use JavaBeans as JRDatasource for our reports, but now we have a special requirement where we also need to execute a query to a database using data from the JRDatasource as the SQL's WHERE clause, is it possible to accomplish that using for example a javax.sql.Connection object as a JRParameter and keeping all the other data the regular way we are to used to (i.e JavaBeans in the JRDataSource object)? Re: [jasperreports-questions] Default oracle date format in ireport
Thanks, but my problem relates to a date used in the SQL in my report query I have a report that I need to run against a variety of SQL databases, i.e Oracle, MYSQL, DB2 I have tried using a value that is a java.util.date in my SQL query. Here is the relevant bit of my SL query : AND submitted_date = $P!{PARAM_TO_DATE} parameter PARAM_TO_DATE is defined as a java.util.Date with the default Value Expression set to new java.util.Date(01/01/2050) But when the the Report query reads the SQL is gives the error Error : SQL problems: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index ::1 John Dunn Sefas Innovation Limited. For simple date/time fields, use the Pattern property to select from one of the predefined patterns. You can also manually type in a pattern using the appropriate letter codes. For more elaborate formatting, you can make the field a String field, and then use String.Format with date/time formatting codes. For example, I have a title field defined as a string that uses: String.format('%tA, %tB %te', $F{class_date}) + , + String.format('%tl:%tM %tp', $F{start_time}) + - + String.format('%tl:%tM %tp', $F{end_time}) where class_date is a database date field, and start_time/end_time are database time fields. (Note that I think the above syntax may require a groovy Report interpreter, so if using Java you probably need some new() calls or something) which produces an output like: Monday, August 31, 9:30 am - 10:20 am I don't think the above should be database-specific. The JDBC interface to the database should be returning date/time fields in an appropriate java object, so once it's on the iReport side any of the formatting should be possible. -- David -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. John Dunn jd...@sefas.com writes: Thanks, but my problem relates to a date used in the SQL in my report query Ah, other direction - sorry. I have tried using a value that is a java.util.date in my SQL query. Here is the relevant bit of my SL query : AND submitted_date = $P!{PARAM_TO_DATE} parameter PARAM_TO_DATE is defined as a java.util.Date with the default Value Expression set to new java.util.Date(01/01/2050) But when the the Report query reads the SQL is gives the error Error : SQL problems: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index ::1 Ah - it may be your use of $P!{}. It's my understanding that by using $P!{} you're overriding normal parameter replacement behavior and forcing iReport/jasperreport to insert the parameter as a raw string value into the SQL without being able to parameterize the query to leave data conversions to the driver. In such cases I believe it's best to ensure that the parameter being used is a string formatted exactly as you wish for the SQL, and also to include any necessary quoting, either as part of the parameter or in the query. Is there a specific reason that you need to use $P!{} at this point in your query? It seems like a normal $P{} would be fine, and in that case the date should transit across the JDBC connection just fine. That should also have the advantage of being database server agnostic as the date isn't being converted into a string by your code, but inside the driver. If you have to stick with $P!{}, I'm guessing your current parameter definition is causing the query to likely be built using the result of .toString() on your parameter, which given what I think is the default representation for a java.util.Date probably means that internally you end up with a query like: and submitted_date = Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 XXX 2050 (where XXX is the local timezone of the machine the report is run on) In order to use $P!{}, I'd suggest: * Make your parameter a type of java.Util.String and then construct the value so it is exactly the string representation you want of the date. So perhaps something like: String.format(%tY-%tm-%td, new Date(01/01/2050)) * Include any necessary quoting in your SQL, which I think would be: and submitted_date = '$P!{PARAM_TO_DATE}' The combination of these two should, I believe, result in a SQL command sent to the server of: and submitted_date = '2005-01-01' If Oracle doesn't like that format by default, just adjust the format string as desired. Beyond that, if you still have problems, I would try to obtain a trace of the actual SQL that is making it to your server. I'm not familiar with Oracle but presume there is statement logging of some sort that can be enabled. Alternatively, I think you can use the JDBC driver manager to add local logging to your JDBC connection. -- David -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. Re: [jasperreports-questions] Multiple Object in DataSource Collection
Without knowing much about your code or system I would say you need a subreport to use 2 datasources. However if the data you need is in 2 separate databases then why not use a join sql statement? The Query is session.createQuery(from jasperReport.Project P,jasperReport.Coverage C where P.projectId = 1 and C.coverageId = 1) Corresponding SQL Query:select project0_.PROJECT_ID as PROJECT1_1_0_, coverage1_.COVERAGE_ID as COVERAGE1_0_1_, project0_.PROJECT_NAME as PROJECT2_1_0_, coverage1_.COVERAGE_NAME as COVERAGE2_0_1_ from PROJECT project0_, COVERAGE coverage1_ where project0_.PROJECT_ID=1 and coverage1_.COVERAGE_ID=1 This returns two objects. Project and Coverage. Project Attributes: projectId projectName Coverage Attributes: coverageId coverageName projectFk(Foreign key - project.projectId) Now in the JRXML field name = projectId ... is accepted field name = coverageId... is showing error as undefined property Is there any wat to call the attributes separately like project.ProjectId coverage.coverageId?? -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Multiple-Object-in-DataSource-Collection-tp25816344p25818786.html Sent from the jasperreports-questions mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Come build with us! [jasperreports-questions] Subreport positioning
Note - I am very new to jasper reports so I am apologetic if this message is obvious to most. I am working on a jasper report that models an invoice. The report was initially created using a data source that represented the entire set of data for the invoice. It was granular down to the invoice item level, and each row in the data source would contain information such as the company's address, phone, customer's name, shipping address, subtotal information, as well as information related to the actual invoice items. My initial inkling was that we should model this report as a series of sub-reports. Picture the company logo in the top left, company contact details in the top right, then the customer details in the middle left, with order details in the middle right, finally the set of invoice items, and then the subtotal information. The main motivation here was to create a series of subreports that could be used on various report. It also allowed me to create a more specific datasource query to bind to the various sub-reports which would avoid cardinality issues as well as aiding in making it more testable. Question #1: Is this a reasonable approach or is there a better way to model multiple queries to the same final report. Question #2: The trouble I am having is actually laying out the sub-reports so that they flow from the one to the other without creating empty space on the final report. What properties should I be setting? Picture a report that has 3 sub-reports in a band where the middle sub-report actually contains no data. I would want sub-report #1 and #3 to have no space between them (from #2). Moreover, if #2 has a lot of data I would like to have it auto-expand and not cause #3's data to overlap. Thank you very much! [jasperreports-questions] Changing font size of textField dynamically
Hello all, I am using JasperReports 3.5.2 with iReport-nb 3.5.2 and I have the following need : I have a textField linked up to a variable expression $V{C2_EXP} and I would like to change the size of the font dynamically depending on the contents of this field. In other words if the expression is 5 characters long, I want size 5, if it's 10 characters long, I want size 4, etc... Is there any possibility to do this with JasperReports ? I thought perhaps of putting a variable expression as the size of the font, but that doesn't seem to be supported. Any ideas ? [jasperreports-questions] Set theme to Jasper report
Hi everyone, I am new to Jasper reports. I have done quite a bit of research on this tool and found that this is the tool which most suffices my requirements. I need to use it in my project and have to use the Jasper APIs. But I need some information- I need to provide ability to the user set a theme to his reports- For eg- he may wish to set some logo onto the report while designing and that should be visible when he runs the report. Is there any way I can do this? Through the API I have got to know that there is a way to apply theme to chart (though have not tried it out yet), but my requirement is to apply it to the entire report and not to the chart alone. Drat, yes, dumb error (and obviously too quick 'n dirty test data) on my part. I guess I let having just aggregate functions lull me into thinking only rows were getting joined, but obviously the aggregates are only applied after the join. Sorry about that. Let's try again - here's a possible replacement query that I believe yields the correct results: select * from ( SELECTusers.id, users.name, a_1.a1_cnt, a_1.a1_total, a_2.a2_cnt, a_2.a2_total, a_3.a3_cnt, a_3.a3_total FROM users LEFT JOIN ( SELECT id, name, count(a1.distance) as a1_cnt, sum(a1.distance) as a1_total FROM users JOIN activity1 a1 on users.id = a1.user_id GROUP BY id, name ) as a_1 on users.id = a_1.id LEFT JOIN ( SELECT id, name, count(a2.hits) as a2_cnt, sum(a2.hits) as a2_total FROM users JOIN activity2 a2 on users.id = a2.user_id GROUP BY id, name ) as a_2 on users.id = a_2.id LEFT JOIN ( SELECT id, name, count(a3.weight) as a3_cnt, sum(a3.weight) as a3_total FROM users JOIN activity3 a3 on users.id = a3.user_id GROUP BY id, name ) as a_3 on users.id = a_3.id ) as result ORDER BY id, name; The nested sub-selects are using an inner join, thus the final table will have NULLs for both *_cnt and *_total if there are no matching records for that activity. You could change it to a left join (like the parent select) to get 0 in the *_cnt columns, but there would still be NULLs in the *_total columns. If your report code would rather not deal with NULLs, I'd probably just coalesce() those columns as needed in the top level select. Depending on the sheer number of activities this could get more complicated (though again, you can hide a lot behind views and/or server side functions), but it still has the database server doing the bulk of the aggregation so should be more efficient than looping over the individual per-activity queries at the reporting level. -- David -- OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. Hi David, Thanks for your reply. Union is ok, but seems there are issues with Join. If so, then unless the tables are stored in separate database servers, it sounds like you just want to join those tables as part of the primary query without much hassle. Dumb example - you have a set of users, who can get rows added to one of three activity tables, related to three activities that have different metrics. Each row in an activity table is a single instance of that user performing that activity: users id integer primary key name text activity1 user_id integer -- foreign key references users(id) distance integer activity2 user_id integer -- foreign key references users(id) hits integer activity3 user_id integer -- foreign key references users(id) weight integer (The join will work without the database having explicit foreign key references but they should be there for referential integrity if the activity tables do have entries for users. Feed that into a JasperReports report designed for grouping by id/user and then you have access to all of the total information in a single detail line for that user, to be presented in the per-user section of that report. Now if you're looking for individual detail lines for each activity for each user, then I think your original thought of a UNION query was on the right track, although you're still joining within the individual components of the UNION to link the user to the activity. It's still somewhat unclear without knowing more about your table structure, but if you just mean that you have a reasonably normalized schema where the relevant information is stored in several tables with appropriate foreign key relationships (this can be true even if normal access is controlled by an ORM like Hibernate), is there a reason your report query can't just join the relevant tables together, grouping the result by user? If you mean 5 completely distinct data sources (e.g., separate databases), then another thought (if you have control of the code rendering the report) might be to implement a custom data source that itself performs the integration from the multiple data sources, even if via 5 distinct queries. From the Jasper engine's perspective it would still be utilized as a single data source for the report. -- David -- OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. I know you mentioned HQL not supporting a UNION, but JasperReport can make a direct SQL query to the underlying data, so I'm not sure that HQL needs to be involved. Also, you mentioned being concerned with the size of the data set, but as you can see here, you'll only get one summary row per user, per activity, so I'm not sure how the data set can be any smaller (even via a mechanism other than UNION) and still provide you with per-activity row data for display in the report. Note that if the activity tables have columns for a name for the activity you could select that in lieu of the static string, though if there's any chance for overlap you'll then want a UNION ALL instead. Nesting the query and applying an overall ordering helps ensure that you get the sequence in an appropriate order for reporting, since otherwise an engine might produce an arbitrary ordering. Or, if the per-user section of the report is just supposed to show a row per activity with total values (e.g., just what this query gives), then there's no need to have a
[jasperreports-questions] How about loop a sub report?
Hi, I may need to put several sub reports in the detail section in the master report. So the sub reports will get loaded many times. Will this cause significant performance issues? Does jasper cache data source for report in this case? My case: User's data are scattered in 5 tables and I need to put those data together under a particular user. I don't want to use UNION because HQL doesn't support it. In addition, Union 5 tables may result in a huge SQL. I have to use one sub report for each table and iterate users in master report and for each user iterate all sub reports to display data relevant to that user. Is this viable or any other solution? Any comment is appreciated. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/How-about-loop-a-sub-report--tp23847733p23847733.html Sent from the jasperreports-questions mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. Re: [jasperreports-questions] How about loop a sub report?
Hi Peter, If I understand your requirements correctly I think grouping would be better than having multiple subreports. Grouping the data on users allows you to create a seperate table for each user, you can also have a header and footer for each user and you can also perform calculations and have totals at the bottom of each group. Hope this helps. Chris Peter Jin wrote: Hi, I may need to put several sub reports in the detail section in the master report. So the sub reports will get loaded many times. Sorry I forgot to mention that the info I gave is based on using iReport/jasperReports, not sure what you are using now but I definately recommend iReport. Re: [jasperreports-questions] How about loop a sub report?
Hi Chris, Thanks for your reply. Grouping can not solve my issue because it works on one data source only. In my case, data for a user scattered in 5 tables. UNION might be a way to combine all tables to a data source, but I can not use it either (explained in the first post). any thoughts? -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/How-about-loop-a-sub-report--tp23847733p23848221.html Sent from the jasperreports-questions mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. [jasperreports-questions] Gridlock with textfields with dynamic content
Hi, I really hope someone has a clue on this layout issue, because I am already out of ideas. Although I think that my problem has something to do with the designs i.e. with way Jasper treats them (layout), here's some general information abou the application. Basically we have a JAVA client-server application and we use Jasper to generate a bunch of reports. The Jasper designs are processed by a servlet on the server-side and sent to the client as jrprint files, where they are being presented to the user. We also have a scriptlet that does some stuff - concatenating data etc. The report that I am having trouble with has the following structure shown in code snippet #1 The data for it comes from a SQL query that works perfectly, so it's only the layout that is bugging me. In the detail I have a bunch of textfields that visualise some hierarchy and another textfield that can contain relatively large amount of text. I've packed each of them in a frame, both of them building up another frame. Beneath them I have another frame which can contain 0,1 or 2 images (ideally). I end up with a report containing pages like the one in attachment 1. My goal is to have report pages where there is no space between the above frame and the image frame - like the one in attachment 2, and of course with the text within the upper frame. At the moment this is only possible if I get rid of the lengthy text. In my opinion, the problem lies in the definition of the field for the lengthy text. As I don't know how long the string would be, i define it with a height of 13 (code snippet #2 ), that is one line only. Because of the stretching properties of the fields it accommodates accordingly, but by doing so it pushes the images down by variable number of lines. So, is there any way to avoid that pushing, which ruins the design. Any help will be deeply appreciated. Thanks for it in advance.
