When I have experienced the problem as you described it, the solution was to
set the system's display to a higher resolution.

Hello all. I have a spare pc and it has the following specks on it.
AMD 2200 With a Gig of Ram and Windows 2000 and Jaws 7.1 What I need to
know is. How to make jaws work. It works but it doesn't read anything like
when I go to the start menu it doesn't read the things in the start menu if
there is any. It also doesn't read things like when I hit the key stroke
windows m to bring up the desk top and stuff it doesn't say that or anything
like that. In short I need to know how to configure jaws 7.1 to work like
jaws 7..0 does on the pc that I am using now it is working fine but this pc
is running windows xp. The jaws 7.1 version on the other pc that is running
windows 2000 has been authenticated so I don't think it is running in demo
moad. I would like Step by Step instructions please if possible. It also
doesn't read any e male unless you use the mouse to read it. then it will
read it in other words unless you swipe the e male message with the mouse
then it will read it. I hope that I am making my self clear and that you all
are getting what I am trying to say. Many thanks for reading and I hope that
some one can help me out with this. Well Many thanks for any help that any
one can give me with this. from Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario

sharon, when I tried the recipes combo box, the forms mode went off when I

didn't have the combo box problem while I had the .0 update. marilyn1

Hey Lisa,
I use this program once a week, and it is Jaws friendly.

Welcome to Registry Repair SE

Topic: Welcome

Welcome to the Windows Registry Repair SE utility program - the ultimate
Windows tool for optimizing and maintaining your Registry in peak condition.

As you use Windows, over time the Registry (which is a massive database of
information about your computer, software and every user) becomes
unnecessarily
bloated and at times often corrupted, all because various programs fail to
update and/or delete unneeded settings. This leads to longer startup times,
slower performance and eventual failure of different hardware components,
software or the Windows Operating system.

Used routinely, Windows Registry Repair SE will allow you to optimize the
Registry and maintain it in perfect condition - all with the click of a
button!
Through every step of the process, you remain completely in charge - Windows

Registry Repair SE will never make a single modification to your Registry
without your permission! The program is so flexible; it even creates dated
backup copies of the Registry, which allows you to restore an earlier
version
if needed.

For additional information on the Windows Registry, please review the Help
file section on
Understanding the Windows Registry.

Okay,
To try and shorten up this thread with where to find this program I
did a simple Google search and found the below listed link and then copied
the authors description of what the software does and basic explanations of
the software.

Try at least doing a Google search first and then check out David's web site
for this forum before asking where to look for some of the things you are
asking about locating. It might cut back on some of the repeated entries
here.

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/System_Maintenance_and_Repair_U
tilities/RegScrubXP.html

RegScrubXP description

RegScrubXP is designed to delete unnecessary information from the System
Registry of XP/NT2000 operating systems. This 'junk' is often left behind
when programs are uninstalled, and the information is not needed anymore.
Programmers mistakenly load the Registry with junk as well. The result of
cleaning out the junk is a smaller, faster Registry.
Your operating system accesses the Registry a lot, so keeping it clean is a
good idea!

- Safely cleans junk out of the System Registry, making it smaller and
faster to access.

- All changes made to the Registry are fully restorable to it's original
condition.

[JAWS-Users] Re: RegScrubXP

2006-12-08 Thread Bob Batchelor

Okay,
To try and shorten up this thread with where to find this program I
did a simple Google search and found the below listed link and then copied
the authors description of what the software does and basic explanations of
the software.

- All changes made to the Registry are fully restorable to it's original
condition.

- You can make an exclusion list of Registry entries that RegScrubXP will
not display as problems.

- You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, and
uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

- RegScrubXP is absolutely free, no strings attached!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: Reg-Scrub and Scripts

Hi Hailley,

If it helps any, when ever I use Reg Scrub XP, I always tend to end up using

my Jaws cursor to click on the relevant buttons.

I don't know why that happens, but since I use it very rarely, except when I

notice that there is sluggishness or crashes on my system, or even what
Windows calls hang-ups, I will run it once, and possibly two or three times
until I get no problems found.

In any case, whether you would like to use it once or twice, I always use
the Jaws cursor to move around the window, as this is the easiest for me,
instead of trying to guess on the different buttons I'm on.

Besides, there are only a few buttons to click on. The first being the "Reg

Scrub XP Finds Problems Button", then, if you wish, you can use the Jaws
cursor to arrow down to the portion of the window that details the status,
where it says files examined, equals a large number, followed by files found

and another number, then finally it will say reg scrub xp finds problems
equals in process or completed. At this point, you can use the Jaws cursor
to go down to the bottom of the window to click on the select all button
after the program has completed it's scan. Then, all you have to do is
cursor over to the fix selected problems button, and you're good to go.

At this point, you might want to use the Jaws cursor to move to the same
area where you read the status of the scan, and listen for the large numbers

again, as I said above, and especially listen to whether Jaws says reg scrub

xp fixes selected problems equals in progress or completed.

Once it says that the fixing is completed, then you can just close the
program with the alt-F4 command, or run another scan. Like I said, I find
it better to run the scan two or three times until the program doesn't find
any problems, and although it may seem that the damn thing always finds
problems, don't worry, eventually, it will say that there were no problems
found.

I should note, that even though I outlined the steps to do a scan above,
there is one or two caveats, or be carefuls.

The first is that I may not be entirely accurate with the word completed, it

may say finished, but pay particular attention to the equals and the
progress statement, as this will tell you when it's finished.

I wish the people who wrote the program would put a sound on the damn
program to tell us blinks when it's done, but just like diarrhoea, you never

know when it's done until you check for yourself...Don't ask.

The last thing I want to mention, is that you should never do these scans
too often.

While a scan once in a while is a good thing, doing it once a week could
ruin your registry in ways that could corrupt your version of Windows and
cause it to have to be re-installed.

Like I said, I only run it once in a blue moon, and only when I have
examined and eliminated all other possibilities, like Jaws corruption,
program corruption and when the restore hasn't worked.

I always examine the MS Config first to make sure nothing is running that
shouldn't be, because sometimes programs, spyware or viruses will install
themselves without letting you know, and they will sometimes show up in the
MS Config or the Task Manager.

Like I said though, run this program sparingly, but when you do, run it well

and completely.

Victor

That tip is one I discovered and that's an old list message that I sent to,
I think, the JFWlite list years and years ago. While it may work under XP,
it doesn't get everything. Also, I don't think that those instructions will
work using the XP version of the Find utility, since it's been completely
rewritten for XP. I've never seen an XP equivalent for this tip.

What you _can_ safely do under XP is to delete the following folders on a
regular basis. Don't worry--they'll be re-created when needed:

C:\Windows\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp

You could write a batch file that would run every time your computer starts
that would delete these two folders.

I use the following on my 98 machine, will it work also on a XP machine?

Can I delete tmp files?

I've given this hint before and it's one of the really useful ones that I've

picked up over the years. Open the Find Files utility and search for:

*.tmp,*.chk,~*.*

Note that the items are separated by a comma and no spaces. Also, note that

the last item is preceded by a tilde and if you omit this, you'll get hits
on every file in your computer, which you most definitely do _not_ want to
do.

Run this search and when it completes, press Control+A to select all, then
the delete key and answer "Y" to the prompt asking if it's okay to delete
everything.

Then comes the really good part. Press Alt+F while still in the Find Files
utility and save the search to your Desktop. From now
on, you can run it regularly to clean up your disk. I've used this for a
couple of years with no problems.

The second thing I would advise is to download and run ad-aware and get rid
of all of that spy crap in your computer. "

That is correct. It's just that alt tab no longer moves me between documents
like it used to, and that's one of the rather confusing issues. The other is
that Jaws will skip whole llines reporting that there is nothing there,
and/or repeat lines and skip others at the same time.

Hi Fred, Give it a try now, I threw you off the list for disorderly
conduct, but I had a change of heart and put you back on,*smile *, I assume
that you saw David's post that this could possibly fix the problem so give

[JAWS-Users] Re: Alt-Tab

2006-12-02 Thread Bob Batchelor

Sharon,
Are you opening your documents that you are working on through "My
Documents" folder individually? I think if you did that the Alt + Tab might
work for you switching between them.

I have a strange question also connected with alt tab. This problem only
happened after a tech support call with Freedom Scientific, and I don't know
what they told me to do to cause it but ever since . . .

The only way to move between MS Word documents is with Control f6. Alt tab
only switches between applications, and does not switch me from one doc to
another in the same application. Also, if I close one document in MS Word,
they all seem to close. This is driving my crazy since I have to work with
multiple documents at once. Also, there are many times when Jaws can't read
me the text but the window is maximized. It's like something is blocking it.
The line just appears to be blank. Sometimes Jaws will read the same line
twice when I'm actually on the line below that one. Anyone know what might
possibly be going on? I don't feel like having our IT person have to
completely reinstall Windows and Office. This happens with Jaws 8 as well as
Jaws 7.1.

Hi Yall,

Is there any rhyme or reason why sometimes when alt-tabbing from one app to
another jaws will say something like task switching and other times it just
says the application?
Wondering if I'm doing something I'm not aware of over here for it to say
this?

Thanksya,

I used to get the list from Yahoo only twice a day. New to this list
stuff and so don't know how to do it.

Your helpful info is marvelous and so I don't want to miss it, just need
to not get it individually.

All of the very prompt and helpful info from everyone is really clogging

I've set up a hot key to launch Notepad in an empty (untitled) file.
I've
done this so when I try copying information (i.e., email addresses,
message
text, et al) I then conveniently open up the notepad file and paste the
contents of the clipboard to the empty file. I can then verify what
I've
actually copied to the clipboard without chancing messing up some real
task
I'm trying to do.

I know this seems like a small thing, but it has helped me diagnose all
sorts of problems with programs and my typing in the past.

Just thought I'd pass this tip along.

I've found that for those few of you who might be having an issue with
posting right now a work around that seems to be fixing the problem.
While it would be far too much work to add everybody manually for those
who it states are non verified simply removing the email address and
then adding it back in does do the trick or so it seems. More testing
in this area is required, but for now everything is status quo and
working smoothly. Over 60 and counting.
