To fix this either it is required to patch Qt5 to follow standard unix path layout (data in share, modules in lib and so one) or to adapt KF5 cmake build system and all packaging. The latter requires much work. I am forced to temporarily use seamonkey for everything because typing text in any form field does not display the text being typed. The text is however properly submitted when submitting the form. The text typed is also revealed only when the text area or text field looses focus. The same problem occurs with other HTML widget. For example, selecting a radio button does not show that the radio has been selected until the form is submitted. The result is that konqueror can only be used for passive browsing. Any use of forms is rendered completely impractical. B) "in the following browser". There are two problems with the interface: 1- if A) is selected, then the name of the default browser is not visible. 2- It is not possible to change the default browser and keep A) selected. To do so, the workaround is to select B), type in the browser name, save, then select A) again, save again. Here is what I can tell so far: Current behavior: When browsing a Windows network in Dolphin, you can: - Rightclick a Workgroup, Server or Share. You will get a context menu with the "Create new" item greyed out. - Rightclick anywhere in the empty space, this should give you the same menu with the "Create new" item available. - When things break, the "Create new" item will be greyed out even when you rightclick into the empty space with a Share's root open in Dolphin. This is a result of Dolphin thinking that the location is not writable. Any other means of writing into that location (drag-n-drop, CTRL+C - CTRL+V, ...) will not work either. This is the problem we are trying to solve here. Behavior with my patch: - Rightclicking a Share shall give you a menu with the "Create new" item accessible. Creating a file in the Share this way or dropping a file onto the Share should work. - If you open the Share and try to write into it, it will still be broken. What you can test: 1) Apply the patch and navigate to the list of Shares on your server in Dolphin. 2) Rightclick one of your "unwritable" shares, go to "Create new->Text file" and check if you can write into the share this way. Alternatively you can drop a file onto the Share. If you do it like this you should have write access. - If your Share requires a valid username/pass combo, *enter the Share first*, wait until you are asked for the login credentials, authenticate yourself, go one level up and only then try to write into the share. Yes, really. These findings are valid for a Fedora 25 client (kio-extras 16.12 with no Red Hat clever patches) and CentOS 7 samba 4.4 server with user accounts checked against Windows AD. The problem as I see it is the lack of a fail-back to the gstreamer backend in the event the user wants to remove VLC. As it stands, removing VLC is impossible unless the user knows to install the gstreamer backend prior to attempting the removal. This requirement is not obvious to the uninitiated and is not apparent by the error messages created by the attempt. IMO, this situation could be easily resolved in one of these ways: 1) The removal of phonon4qt5-backend-vlc triggers the installation of phonon4qt5-backend-gstreamer - and vice-versa, thus preventing the unintentional breakage of the entire system. 2) Both backends installed by default, thus allowing VLC to be removed without incident. 3) VLC not be installed by default at all, instead having gtreamer be the default backend. Again, IMO #1 would be the most beneficial as it provides protection from "silly user tricks." Interesting points to note: **Removing the gstreamer backend (whilst the VLC backend is not present) automatically installs the VLC backend. It's only when you attempt the reverse as stated above that the removal of KDE is at risk. **Even VLC does not have the VLC backend as a dependency. I want to also add that this makes yakuake unusable on the second monitor. That is, when Yakuake is configured to pop-up on whichever monitor the mouse is, it will NOT pop-up if the mouse is on the second monitor. I know multi-monitor setups are probably not that common, but this is a very bad bug for anyone wishing to use KDE in such a setup, and it gives out the message that KDE is badly broken. Not many people will reach this bug-report before dumping KDE for another DE. I re-tested just now and today it's switching to the "Freehand Path Tool" when I follow these steps. It seems to be random each time. I tried closing Krita, then reopened and repeated these steps. By what I found for now seems https://cgit.kde.org/kdevelop.git/commit/?id=8a1536caf85f402d6d1c2d6cb00b0b94d34196bb broke this by removing QObject::connect(view, &StandardDocumentationView::linkClicked, this, &QtHelpDocumentation::jumpedTo); but without ensuring a proper replacement in the new design (apol: "now we are delegating links", "the view is navigating wherever it goes").
