[Powerdevil] [Bug 443761] New: Feature request: Smart charging and battery health (a la macOS)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443761 Bug ID: 443761 Summary: Feature request: Smart charging and battery health (a la macOS) Product: Powerdevil Version: unspecified Platform: unspecified OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: k...@jess.coll.is Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY As of macOS Big Sur, Apple has introduced a feature that helps prolong battery life on its MacBook laptops and its mobile devices. Basically, it adds some smarts to hold the battery charge at 80% while plugged in, and will then at some statistically determined time charge the battery to 100% so your battery will be fully charged by the time you to regularly take it off the charger. If you need to fully charge it sooner, you can do that, and it will incorporate that into its statistics. I thought it would be super neat for KDE to have such a feature. I have uploaded a bunch of screenshots of the interface on macOS - link to album: https://imgur.com/a/lBbaHDL (I used Imgur, because unfortunately I can't seem to upload multiple attachments to this bug report?) : 1) Screenshot #1 (1-holding at 80 percent.png; from the system tray) shows the battery being held at 80% charge. Note the "Will be charged by 6:00 PM" info, and the option to "Charge to Full Now". 2) Screenshot #2 (2-charging.png; from the system tray) shows the regular, currently charging interface. 3) Screenshot #3 (3-fully charged.png; from the system tray) shows the interface when the battery has been fully charged. 4) Screenshot #4 (4-battery settings.png; from system preferences) shows the Battery Settings. Note the "Optimised battery charging" setting. 5) Screenshot #5 (5-battery health settings.png; from system preferences / battery settings) shows the Battery Health settings (from the Battery Health button in Screenshot #4 above). LINKS * https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT211832 (linked to from "Learn More..." button from Screenshot #5) * https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT212049 (info about the smart charging) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Note, I am a current macOS user and former (+ current on occasion) KDE user. But I think it's a good thing to highlight positives from other OSes for potential incorporation into KDE :) Unfortunately I don't have the technical ability to do this :( Thank you so much! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 443712] Bottom panel hides lower part of windows including the confirmation buttons at lower resolutions
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443712 --- Comment #4 from paninomaninod...@gmail.com --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2) > Seems like the minimum height of this window is too tall. There isn't a > generic way to fix this at the panel level; we need to fix individual > windows that are too tall. I'll fix this one. I think that changing how the panel visibility behaves would solve this for all cases. Like it works on Windows, the windows try to stick immediately above the bottom panel and try to not get behind it. If you want to change the minimum size of these windows, in the case of the resolution 1280x768 that it's still so common, some pixels just need to be "reserved" to the bottom panel, so just subtract the standard bottom panel height from 768. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[digikam] [Bug 443685] When converting canon CR3 files to dng files in parallel digikam crashes. This worked in version 7.2.0 but not in 7.3.0
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443685 --- Comment #3 from John Beatty --- Hi Gilles, Thanks for looking into this. I'm trying to put together the requested information. 1 These were raws from the Canon R5. 2 Exiv 11.88 3 I'm not sure how to get a GDB backtrace of the crash 4) I've attached two consoles one where it was not running in parallel and worked. I stopped it after about 150 or so files converted. So it works in serial mode. I've also attached a console with it running under catchsegv in parallel and failing. It doesn't appear to get to far. On this run it only completed 1 dng. The file with the failure has segfault in the name (digikam.segfault.console). Just for a bit more context I ran digikam in parallel without catchsegv and the messages from digikam appear to be virtually identical so I don't think the catchsegv alters the output other than to display the backtrace info at the end of the console. [Discover] [Bug 406295] State of checkboxes is not immediately updated after I enable/disable a firmwares source in "Settings" page
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406295 --- Comment #6 from Adam Williamson --- huh, another finding which kinda surprised me: if you take out the call to `sourcesView.model.setData` so that the block just looks like this: onClicked: { checked = Qt.binding(function() { return modelChecked !== Qt.Unchecked; }) } you get the same behaviour as if you remove the block entirely. The checkboxes change state correctly every time you click them, but do nothing. That's not what I was expecting, actually - I was expecting them to do nothing and have buggy behaviour (probably stay in the same state no matter how often you clicked them). Not sure of the significance of that, though. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406295 --- Comment #5 from Adam Williamson --- oh, sorry, one more note: if you apply my partial fix for https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443455 so that the checkboxes for flatpak sources are also clickable, you'll find that they behave exactly the same as fwupd ones, *even though setData is not overridden for the fwupd backend at all*. So the bug reproduces with *just* the qml change from 'upstream' behaviour - it seems we don't need to be concerned about it being affected by anything in the flatpak backend's setData implementation. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406295 --- Comment #4 from Adam Williamson --- Note I think this code, which was essentially identical at the time, must have been working back in late 2018, or else it's hard to see how this bug could have been reported and fixed: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=401663 so it almost seems like something in Qt or even Kirigami may have broken this, somehow, between then and when this bug was reported in April 2019? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Discover] [Bug 406295] State of checkboxes is not immediately updated after I enable/disable a firmwares source in "Settings" page
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406295 --- Comment #3 from Adam Williamson --- So I've been beating my head against this all day and not getting *that* far, but I can at least say the problem is caused by our handling of clicks on the checkbox in discover/qml/SourcesPage.qml: onClicked: { sourcesView.model.setData(idx, checkState, Qt.CheckStateRole) checked = Qt.binding(function() { return modelChecked !== Qt.Unchecked; }) } this is the bit that makes clicking the checkbox actually do something. What it's *supposed* to do is tell the source backend to actually enable or disable the source and then update its record as to whether the checkbox should be checked or not - this all happens when we call sourcesView.model.setData - and then reset the 'checked' state to whatever the backend now thinks it should be (so the checkbox should change state if it did, or stay the same if it didn't). If you take the onClicked block out entirely, the checkboxes will respond perfectly to being clicked whichever state they're in. Of course, they won't *do* anything. If that block is there, clicking them does what it is supposed to so long as the backend supports it, but the checkbox gets sort of 'stuck' as described here. Note that a *second* click while it's stuck does not change the state again. Interestingly, neither taking the `checked = Qt.binding(function() { return modelChecked !== Qt.Unchecked; })` line out nor exactly inverting its logic (to === instead of !==) changes the observed behaviour *at all*. The bug is not apparent on flatpak sources because of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443455 (the flatpak source backend is just flat out missing the code to enable or disable sources), and it's not apparent on PackageKit sources because the way that backend works is that it entirely rebuilds the source list any time the repo configuration changes at all, which sort of hides the bug. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 443724] Allow an option to disable ''switch on hover'' for Kickoff's Categories sidebar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443724 --- Comment #2 from hoperidesal...@protonmail.ch --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > Hmm, other than the inconsistency, what problem would this solve? Fewer accidents for people with not so-good mouse controls, since switch on hover is automatic and the contents will change based on mouse movement, as opposed to hovering and clicking which requires manual input from the user, it's a lot harder to cause unintentional changes in hover and click compared to the now. Also would be more familiar for people who are used to a different setting considering switch on hover isn't exactly the most common behavior to come across. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
