Heya,

+1 on everything Eike said. I think adopting GitLab will be a huge benefit for
KDE.

Some two-digit million amount of projects hosted on GitLab+GitHub+BitBucket
(systems which all share the same "workflow" principles) cannot be wrong. At
least there are /tons/ of developers out there which are familiar with them by
heart, which makes it super easy for them to contribute to KDE, in theory.

Even after having worked a couple of years with Phabricator's review system it
stills feels alien to me, mostly b/c it does not integrate that well with Git.
I always get slight shivers when having to work with it. I'm contributing to
several other projects on either GitLab, GitHub, BitBucket, and the whole
experience is simply better. I think there's no doubt about that.

The move to yet another system is ambitious but let's rather do it sooner than
later. Looking forward to GitLab adoption across the board!

Thanks for the effort, guys!

Cheers,
Kevin

Heya,

FYI: The compile-feature [1] is used by the CMake Config files installed by
Qt. For Qt it is used to figure out when and how to pass the i.e. the resp. `-
std=...` flag for GNU-like compilers for users of Qt.

Usually you get that kind of error in case you're trying to use an unsupported
compiler for which CMake doesn't know the availability of the C++ features. A
typical example is Android GCC.

I'm surprised you get that error by a standard GCC...? Would be nice to figure
out what's going wrong. Maybe `cmake --trace` or `cmake --debug-output` can
help.

Please check the following link for a work-around:

Heya,

I also feel that for KDevelop we'd rather be taking a break this year. The
last years with GCI have been reaaally exhaustive; managing a bunch of
students who have looots of questions all day :)

And also, working on KDevelop tasks usually requires a very good understanding
of Qt/C++ which is sometimes difficult to demand from 14-17 years olds.

And life's getting more busy over here, so I'm afraid we'll have to skip
participating here.

*If* it's going to happen we'll try to come up with tasks, there's no pressure
to participate from our side at least.

Next time please include more information:

Also, please paste the compilation/configure error in *text* form so one can
easily copy from it.

Anyhow, from your screenshot one can deduce you're using Ubuntu. CMake reports
you're missing libphonon4qt5experimental.so.4.8.3.

=> Check which package provides this file, e.g. with 'apt-file':

% apt-file search phonon4qt5experimental.so
libphonon4qt5experimental-dev: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
libphonon4qt5experimental.so
libphonon4qt5experimental4: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
libphonon4qt5experimental.so.4
libphonon4qt5experimental4: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
libphonon4qt5experimental.so.4.8.3

=> Solution: Install libphonon4qt5experimental4 via apt-get.

Hope that helps,

No-one stepped up so far to do it, but you're welcome to give it a try.

Porting should be pretty straight forward, just follow the changes we did in
e.g. kdevelop.git for other plugins.

As said above, I'd rather have a look at the changes done in e.g. kdev-

If the SVN kioslave is standalone, wouldn't it make more sense to actually
keep it in a separate repository/package? So users who just want the Dolphin
integration can just use that?

Wouldn't it make more sense to move your kioslave implementation into kdesdk-
kioslaves, replacing the older copy?

I'm not sure whether Albert just wants to kill the repository or he's just
phasing old unmaintained software. In case of the latter, updating the copy
with the better maintained version probably makes more sense.

There's been tons of discussion around Baloo on kde-framework-devel already.

Thanks for your effort!

IMO this needs to be part of kdesrc-build, one way or the other, in order to
be useful.

The setup of kdesrc-build needs to made as *easy* as possible; since that is
what we tell newcomers to use. As I've said elsewhere already, in a perfect
world you have to just download a kdesrc-build tarball (or git archive) and
invoke a wizard-like script which sets up everything in one go.

Kevin

Well, it surely is KDE-related since Emerge is a KDE project.

We already handled the issue on kde-wind...@kde.org, though.

@Reporter: Please don't cross-post, if you have troubles with Emerge then
mailing kde-wind...@kde.org is sufficient.

+1. Exactly my thought.

This is a common way to organize your image galleries. Digikam has great
support for this kind of usage scenario.

You first go through an arbitrary list of images (not necessarily in the same
directory), label each of them as you wish (I think Digikam offers Alt+{1,2,3}
shortcuts), and then just filter by label and do the move operation.

I don't see why this particular feature needs a dedicated KIO slave.

Greets,
Kevin

Just to stress again this would be *really* useful to have.

I answered a post on SO:
  http://stackoverflow.com/a/34612692/592636

Tried to link kwallet's FindGpgpme.cmake into the answer; and there's *no*
easy way quickly get a link to KDE infrastructure serving the file via Google
(not even api.kde.org).

Try googling for "kwallet findgpgme.cmake" (very specific search after all):
  https://www.google.de/search?q=kwallet+findgpgme.cmake

-> First result: Github..., rest: mildly interesting

Different issue I just noticed: There's no way to get the plain-text (raw)
representation of a given file on LXR, is there? Would be useful as well.

Kevin

with, you can take care of one of the junior jobs present here:

Or just try to fix any annoyances with a KDE application you regularly use.

I'm not sure this is super useful, to be honest (as mentioned in #kde-
sysadmins already).

This is really just plain file serving, with no cross-references to either LXR
(or apidocs). This is basically a dead-end when you follow a result on Google.

Wouldn't it be possible to let robots index https://lxr.kde.org/source/
 instead? We have the infrastructure...

Of course we need to blacklist all the pages allowing to actively *search* LXR
for robots, in order to avoid abuse.

Are you aware that not even every KDE developer knows about LXR? I constantly
have to tell people about it.

Now consider someone outside of KDE even, trying to figure out where
KAwesomeClass is defined, or how it is implemented quickly -> bummer. (right
now there's api.kde.org, which at least gives results about signatures, but
the content of the .cpp or .h files are not indexed afaics)

So having KDE source code indexed by Google would be definitely a win for
everyone. It being linked back to LXR even more (=> people learn LXR exists
when googling for KDE source code)

Right, kdeinit/klauncher/kded/kio is an issue when porting apps, but it got *a
lot* better in KF5 already (inter-dependencies between those modules have been
relaxed, KIO got cleaned up a lot).

In fact, if you did follow the KF5 mailing list a bit; on Windows it's now
possible to just run KDevelop *without* ever invoking kdeinit/klauncher/kded.
Just a few patches needed in KF5 libraries -- all upstreamed already. This
also helped the OSX world.

What's the problem with that? Did you ask for help? Clearly, and people out
there are using it (https://github.com/haraldF/homebrew-kf5)

Then, please join efforts and help in resolving *this* issue. We in the "KDE
on Windows" world also just worked-around the issue by patching Qt.

The QStandardPaths issue is not the end of the world, either, though...

Please keep in mind that we can only to drastic changes in development
versions (KF5), not legacy(!) versions (KDE4) ...

Also, on Windows, we have the same problem: KDE4 apps are not working
perfectly fine either; but we've accepted the fact KDE4 is a dead-end and now
try to focus on improving based on KF5 instead.

Thanks,
Kevin

Oh, right, you also changed the code inside the loop accordingly. I was so
focussed on the loop-merge that I didn't notice...

Alright, sorry for the noise. LGTM.

I'm not sure this change is correct: This changes semantics wrt weights.

I presume the prior approach assigned increasing weights for [first,last];
now it just does that for [0,end[.

Double-check...

kdesrc-buildrc: Show compile output

2015-08-24 Thread Kevin Funk
Heya guys,

A few revisions ago, kdesrc-buildrc had that "hidden" --debug option that
allowed me to see compile output right away. This no longer works but I'd like
to have the feature back, one way or the other.

So, is it possible atm? I'd really like to have --verbose print command
invocations (cmake, gcc, clang++) + compile output, too...

Am I missing something? (I'm not the Perl guru either...)

Cheers

If you'd also be interested in working on Okular, my own little pet-peeve that
I'd like to see fixed at some point is part of
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311885:

I'd *reeeally* like the bottom "page bar" to be merged into the top toolbar in
order to save vertical space without losing the functionality of the page bar.

I think it'd be trivial enough, but I don't have the time to work on it :)

Just my two cents, maybe you're interested? @Albert, do you like the idea?

Cheers!

Whoops. We've just found out this indeed a bug.

In qmake terms, there's only 'KI18n', but no 'I18n'. qt_KTextWidgets.pri
incorrectly references 'I18n', though.

Here's the fix:
http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=ktextwidgets.git&a=commitdiff&h=b83617d59b14941b1e26d295e9ea300301365321

You could apply the patch locally and be fine.

Thanks for reporting.
Cheers

PS: @devs: We should have really used the 'KF5' prefix for all qmake module
names here. Now there's an inconsistency in the naming scheme for the modules.

Compare:
  KF5::Attica (CMake) - Attica (QMake) vs.
  KF5::I18n (CMake) - KI18n (QMake)

To fix and to avoid SIC we could generate/install an additional set of .pri
files for KF5 which prefixes every module with 'KF5'?

Do you have the development packages for those libraries installed?

I.e. on Ubuntu:
- libkf5textwidgets-dev
- libkf5i18n-dev
- libkf5xmlgui-dev

For helping you to debug your issue it may help to understand how this all
works:

So when you do 'QT += KTextWidgets', qmake needs to find a file called
'qt_KTextWidgets.pri' somewhere within the QTDIR. I.e. on Ubuntu, this should
be /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/mkspecs/modules/qt_KTextWidgets.pri.

Make sure these files are around, by installing the resp. development packages.

Hope that helps

This is easy to automate with .gitattributes, for the record (we've been using
that for ages in KDevelop land):

$GITROOT/.gitattributes
*.desktop merge=ours

Then add this to your .git/config:
[merge "ours]
driver = true

Now 'git merge mystablebranch' will just resolve merge conflicts in .desktop
files using the 'ours' strategy (i.e. favoring *the current branch's* changes)

Hope that helps

FYI: Just tried to validate kdevelop's appdata file on that page, but
http://hughsient.no-ip.biz/validate.php is apparently down.

appstream-util doesn't seem to be available for my distro (Ubuntu 14.10) yet
(going to check how to get it, though).

Seems like kded5 already crashed, but still keeps running because it
deadlocked in the signal handler...

Still, cannot find any sign of bug report about this issue on the interwebs...
Just me?

Heya, I'm also having issues with Plasma 5 from Kubuntu PPA's packages.

Seems related to this one. After some suspend/resumes cycles it seems that
something in in the kded+powerdevil integration breaks and I can no longer use
any Power Management related features.

One issue: Clicking on "Power Management" in system settings just freezes the
application. Suspending no longer works.

Attaching GDB to kded5 brings the following backtrace, which seems to indicate
some issue with Polkit, it hangs in 'polkit_authority_check_authorization'.
Did anyone else see this already and could provide some pointers where to look
at?

On Ubuntu it's the same, the libboost-program-options1.55-dev pkg just
contains the .a and .so. Headers are part of the (generic) libboost1.55-dev
pkg.

With the REQUIRED in place it errors out early now. => All fine.

+1.

He's already been doing a lot of work on templates in KDevelop/KDevplatform,
so it'd only make sense to let him take care of kapptemplate a bit.

Unfortunately it's not really unrelated -- When using qDebug() in
~KZoneAllocator, that sometimes seems to crash in deep inside Qt
(QTextCodec/QIconvCodec) during __cxa_finalize. Apparently it is too late to
call qDebug() at this point.

Problem with KCompTreeNode on Windows (or: destruction order of static objects?)

2013-11-30 Thread Kevin Funk
Hey guys,

My recent attempts to make KDevelop shine on Windows revealed some odd
behaviour inside kdelibs.

I need some help in order to find the right approach to fix an at least 3 year
old bug [1] ultimately caused by the use of a static member object in the
KCompTreeNode class (kcompletion.h) in kdelibs. Please see the attached bug
report [2].

Note that the error *only shows up on Windows*, on Linux we don't have this
problem. I'll try to explain what's wrong in this mail.

The actual issue:
- KDevelop running:
- We have an instance of KateGlobal owned by KateFactory,
  a plugin loaded by KDevelop
- Some descendant of KateGlobal (KateCmd) owns a KCompTreeNode instance
- KCompTreeNode uses a custom allocator for creating/deleting instances
  of itself, holds a static member of type KZoneAllocactor for that
- KZoneAllocator holds the memory for all the instantiated KCompTreeNodes

So we have the following object ownership (some levels omitted):
- KateFactory
KateGlobal
  KCompTreeNode
KZoneAllocator (static)

When closing KDevelop *under Linux*:
- ~KateFactory, via QObjectCleanupHandler during __run_exit_handlers (glibc)
~KateGlobal, via call to KateGlobal::decRef()
  ~KCompTreeNode
- ~KZoneAllocator, during __cxa__finalize (glibc)

The order is fine in this case. No segfaults.

However, on Windows the destruction order is different (and I cannot really
explain why). When closing KDevelop *under Windows*:
- ~KZoneAllocator is called first, via
"kdeui.dll!`dynamic atexit destructor for 'KCompTreeNode::alloc''()"
- ~KateFactory, via QObjectCleanupHandler
~KateGlobal
  Call to KCompTreeNode::removeItem()

=> Crash because memory for the KCompTreeNode instances was already freed
   by ~KZoneAllocator

I wonder how to fix that:
The easiest solution obviously: Get rid off the custom allocator in
KCompTreeNode. Having a class owning its custom allocator is just plain wrong,
right? But removing that probably has performance impacts. (Does anyone have
benchmarks here?)

Just using K_GLOBAL_STATIC for the KZoneAllocator instance doesn't help
either. I get the same destruction order + crash with that on Windows.

Dynamic allocation inside KCompTreeNode doesn't work either, because
KZoneAllocator needs to be there *before* the first KCompTreeNode is created
and needs to there *until* the last one has been destroyed.

Any ideas?

Hey,

First, Amarok has its own mailing list: amarok-de...@kde.org

Second, there is not Spotify integrated yet but there is a GSoC proposal for
2012 [1].

Yep,

although I would not set the attribute in the dialog's constructor. For
external users of your class it is quite hidden and modifies normal behaviour.

Assume:
ConfigDialog* dlg = new ConfigDialog();
dlg->show();
// ...
// dlg gets closed
// ...
delete dlg; // error: double-free

Better do:
ConfigDialog* dlg = new ConfigDialog();
dlg->setAttribute(...); // so people *know* it's getting deleted.

Not a serious issue after all.

Sorry for the nit-picking, I was bored.

Hey,

Do you call setFocus *after* creating/layouting the widgets? Constructing
other widgets afterwards will change the keyboard focus, so be sure to make
this call last.

Other than, it might help to use the event loop for calling the setFocus()
slot on a widget, e.g.:
QTimer::singleShot(0, widget, SLOT(setFocus()));

This ensures that the widget(s) is/are fully constructed before receiving the
focus activation.

Hope this helps,

This might be also very interesting to you:
http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started/Increased_Productivity_in_KDE4_with_Scripts/.bashrc
(sourcing this basically sets all the required environment variables you need)

I'm using this to install the complete KDE environment (and other cmake based
applications) to user-space.
Very helpful for development purposes.
