[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1824642] Re: nvidia card disabled after upgrading to 5.0.0-11-generic

2019-04-14 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I believe I found the answer according to this post:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
nouveau/+bug/1824677/comments/3

Settings nouveau.modeset=1 on the kernel options in grub solved the
issue for me.

nvidia card disabled after upgrading to 5.0.0-11-generic

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading from 5.0.0.8-generic to 5.0.0.11-generic, the nvidia
card suddenly became "disabled". I own a laptop with hybrid GPU stack,
intel + nvidia; nvidia is in charge of display ports. On
5.0.0.8-generic I had only nvidia GPU enabled (discrete mode) and
nouveau was able to properly control nvidia and send the signal to my

On 5.0.0.11-generic in discrete mode, linux booted to 640x480
resolution only. When I enabled hybrid mode back, the computer boots
into 1920x1200 mode properly, however the display port ports don't
work at all, and the "About" screen only lists the Intel GPU, not
nvidia. lspci still lists nvidia though.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1824642] Re: nvidia card disabled after upgrading to 5.0.0-11-generic

2019-04-14 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I have a similar problem with an Nvidia GeForce GT 730 card and the
Nouveau drivers. On kernel 5.0.0-8 everything is normal with a quick
boot time and the correct resolution of 1920x1080, however on 5.0.0-11
the system is very slow to boot and 1024x768 is the only resolution I
have.

Bug description:
This is a hardware specific issue with Ubuntu 18.04 and kernel
4.15.0-20-generic. The driver for the Intel AC 9560 wireless chip
  causes the problem. Driver location:
  https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/05511
  /network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html

The wifi connection is very slow (1MB instead of 100MB possible
download speed, upload speed is normal) and is also very unreliable.

When installing the 4.16 kernel from mainline kernel
  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.16/ the described
  problem is solved.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 344878] Re: file name too long when creating new file (ecryptfs_lookup: lookup_one_len() returned [-36] on lower_dentry)

2017-04-16 Thread Nicola Bernardelli
@baltic +1 At least a warning **should** be issued when offering to
encrypt the home folder, clarifying what the length limits are with and
without that encryption. The limit is not **at all** hard to hit, I hope
a solution will be implemented.

Bug description:
  ===
IMPORTANT: eCryptfs can only store filenames of up to 143 characters when
filename encryption is enabled. The remaining 112 characters are used for
storing metadata such as the encrypted filename prefix, the signature of the
filename encryption key, and an identifier for the cipher used, as well as
random bytes to make /foo/file and /bar/file encrypt to different ciphertext
and padding bytes to achieve proper cipher block size alignment.

This bug is considered 'fixed' by the upstream maintainers. The
eCryptfs kernel error message has been reduced to a debug level log
message and eCryptfs now correctly reports its maximum supported
filename length through the statfs() syscall. This is all that can be
done without implementing a completely new encrypted filename design.
A design that allows 255 character filenames without introducing other
design limitations has not been identified and no one is currently
working to come up with such a design.

Please do not add comments or create new bugs saying that mv reports
'File name too long' or that you can't create a long filename in your
eCryptfs mounts. It is an unfortunate design limitation that cannot be
  avoided at this time.

Please do create new bugs when an application generates filenames that are
too long to be stored in an eCryptfs mount. The application may be able to use
the statfs() syscall to check the filename length limits of eCryptfs. Note that
this does not include something like a torrent or ftp client trying to download
a file with a long filename. The application is not generating the filename in
those cases, it is just downloading the file that the user told it to download.
  ===

When trying to create a new file with a relatively long filename (f. ex.
dfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqbdfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqbdfkmqsdgjfmqsldjfmlsqkjlqkdmfsmgjlqlskdqshgpoizehmlqkbgmlqbgmqb.txt)
I get an error: file name to long, when in fact the file name is not to long,
but the encrypted name created for this file is to long, so, the file was not
created.

this is no problem when I try to create a file, but when I'm copying a
lot of files to my home folder I get some: filename to long error's
and it's hard to fix (first locate the file, create shorter name, move
  again)

so, maybe you could create a check for to long filenames?

Title:
ATI Radeon not working: from no rendering to system freeze

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Release: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (pre-release daily build)

  Hardware: Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series (Intel(R)) - 5559, hybrid
  graphics: Intel integrated + AMD Radeon(TM) R5 M335 4GB DDR3 GPU.

I can't get the GPU to work properly. Examples: glxgears not showing
output or crashing, blender causing the system to freeze.

  What I've tried:

1] with the default configuration (integrated Intel card activated by
  default), glxgears works fine.

2] DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears: THe windows gets drawn, but no content is
  rendered

  3]
  Output from xrandr --listproviders:
 Providers: number : 3
Provider 0: id: 0x66 cap: 0x9, Source Output, Sink Offload crtcs: 4
outputs: 3 associated providers: 2 name:Intel
Provider 1: id: 0x3f cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 0
outputs: 0 associated providers: 2 name:HAINAN @ pci::01:00.0
Provider 2: id: 0x3f cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 0
outputs: 0 associated providers: 2 name:HAINAN @ pci::01:00.0

  So I change with:
  xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 0x3f 0x66

  4] DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears now gives:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1458663] Re: Characters disappear and graphic major problems

2015-07-29 Thread Nicola Spampinato
Unluckily, while I was backtesting, the bug came back also in the
4.1-rc2.

It seemsa that has something to do with the use of thunderbird. In most
of the cases, the bug is present only when I launch thunderbird, and
then affects all the other windows.

 :(

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322184] Re: 168c:0034 [Dell XPS 13 (L322X)] wifi slows and/or drops frequently

2014-05-30 Thread Nicola Gallo
i tried to download three days ago the iso and run it from usb (try without
install) as instructed
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/utopic-desktop-amd64.iso

it seems the problem is still very present in that version

if that helps, the problem is present since 3.13.0-20
seems good on 3.13.0-19, not tested trhougly (i went back using old kernels to
download 3.15, since i remember all worked good before kernel upgrades)

the main wifi network that gave me problems was a huawei model e5756s-2
wireless hotspot. don't know if this is a type of connection issue, but
on previous old kernels and other machines (linux, win android) the
hotspot works fine (lot of testing)

glad to help

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1229118] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000010

2013-10-03 Thread Nicola
Hi Josep,

yes this bug appeared after an upgrade, I was previously using kernel 3.2.0-47
and this bug did not occur.
I am attaching another trace that I got again with kernel 3.2.0-54, the overall
symptom is the same (system crashes) though the kernel log looks a bit
different.

I'll give a try to the mainline kernel and let you know.

** Attachment added: another trace with kernel 3.2.0-54
