[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1687397] Re: Kernel freeze when plugging in external monitor via USB-C->DP-Adapter
My experience is on a dell precision which is pretty much the same as the XPS series. Pulling the USB-C out quickly and re inserting can hang the computer. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1687397] Re: Kernel freeze when plugging in external monitor via USB-C->DP-Adapter
It seems this is the same bug for Dell XPS 15 as well. Not always, but sometimes this happens either using the DA200 adapter (Type-C usb) or direct HDMI. However, a related bug has been fixed (black screen)* so I will report back if this still happens on the Dell XPS 15. * https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93578=SM=60904=730074515 ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #93578 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93578 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1687397 Title: Kernel freeze when plugging in external monitor via USB-C->DP-Adapter Status in Dell Sputnik: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When plugging in/out my external monitor (Acer B286HK) via an USB-C -> DP Adapter, there is a great chance, that the computer completely freezes. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1687397] Re: Kernel freeze when plugging in external monitor via USB-C->DP-Adapter
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.11 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
