Jean-Baptiste Faure,
Thank you for taking point on this important issue. I'm sure it's not easy
weeding though all those angry comments over a feature that should have never
been introduced. We're lucky to have your help on this.

We need to ensure that the backport get reverted before 4.2.7 is released. Are
you on that? UpdateReferenceOnSort=false needs to be the default value for both
the 4.3.x and 4.4.x line.

I noticed "dead" start times for documents of 2-4 pages:

for normal documents: 2 seconds

for documents with URL's in a table: 11 seconds on average!

Is that an indication of a faulty release?

2014-10-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85584

Bug ID: 85584
Summary: Sorting: option UpdateReferenceOnSort should be set to
false by default
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.4.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Spreadsheet
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jbfa...@libreoffice.org

According to many discussions on bugs 81309, 81633, 85215 and 85490 and others,
I think that for a better backward compatibility, the configuration option
UpdateReferenceOnSort should be set to false by default.
Use-Cases collected in bug 85490 seems to shows that the cases where the value
false in required are more frequent than the case where the value true is
needed.

Sorting, ok, but sorting exactly which range of cells and on which key ?

Are you sure of your formulas in RankBefore? According to A8 and A9 I had put
D8=B2+B3 and D9=B4+B5 instead.

Set status to NEEDINFO. Please set it back to UNCONFIRMED once you have

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 85441] Macro Recorder doesn't give working code for character border

2014-10-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85441

tommy27 changed:

   What|Removed |Added

the macro recorder is a very old feature which is inherited by StarOffice (the
ancestor of OpenOffice).

so it's no surprise that new features of LibO like character borders (which do
not exist in OOo) cannot be recognized and recorded by the macro recorder.

as said before, the power of that macro recorder is limited which means that it
cannot exactly record everything you want.

from talks I had with developers I know there's no plan to rewrite the recorder
which means that this feature will not be improved.

so you should accept it's limitations and if the generated code is not
functional there's no other way to start learning LibO BASIC (download this
very interesting e-book from Pytoniak http://www.pitonyak.org/OOME_3_0.pdf )
and asking for help in OOo/LibO forums which always have sections dedicated to
macro coding.

I started using the macro recorder years ago (and I still use if for some easy
tasks) and it helped me to get familiar with OOo/LibO basic and start learning
how to manually code my own macros.

you should do the same: it may seem hard at the beginning but you will enjoy it
at the end. Handmade pasta always tastes better than precooked meals :-)

so I'm closing this report as RESOLVED WONTFIX

Although as a document wrangler myself, fixing it in Libre makes the most

Jean-Baptiste Faure,
The definitions of relatives references and absolute references go all the way
back VisiCalc. Just because the source of the definition is from Microsoft's
knowledge base, doesn't make it any less valid.

It is terribly unprofessional of FDO to ignore these facts and not revert the
offending commits. They are causing real world data lost and loss of
productivity for an imaginary use-case. So if you really care about being
"better than MS-Excel" you should start by restoring the old functionality
before you have no more users left.

raal,
The formulas in RankAfter should be the same as RankBefore. I've been using
spreadsheets for over a decade now and never seen anything like this. According
to bug 81633, Calc 4.2 and Excel correctly sort formulas with relative
references by not changing their value. Calc 4.3 suffers from a serious
regression where relative references are tread as absolute references
scrambling user's spreadsheets.

The consensus appears to be that this issue is still not resolved. I wasted
hours and lost data by making the mistake of upgrading to 4.3.2.2, the version
that still offered on the website.

By the guidelines at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugTriage
That qualifies this as a serious bug eligible for back ports.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 85490] [METABUG] Use-Cases for sorting with references

2014-10-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85490

>This issue is a metabug intended to summarize all use-cases for sorting with
>references and to show what does work and what does not.

Jean-Baptiste Faure,
There is no valid use case for this adjusting relative references in a sort.
That’s what absolute references are for. The whole issue arose from a
spreadsheet neophytes who do not understand the fundamentals spreadsheet
design. In Bug 45146 a developer, Eike, said,

“A relative in-sheet reference is supposed to point to a cell relative to the
formula cell containing the reference and hence changes the value if the
formula cell is moved during sort. If the reference shall stick to the same
cell then an absolute reference must be used. This behavior is identical to how
Excel treats it.”

Instead of listening to his wisdom and telling the users to fix their broken
spreadsheets with absolute references, we bowed to their ridiculous demands,
creating this nightmare situation where Calc is incompatible with all other
spreadsheet. We should treat this as a learning opportunity and revert changes
to prevent any more casualties of this poorly thought out "feature".

This is a serious issue. Look at all the dupes of Bug 81633 to get an idea of
the damage this is doing to Calc's reputation as being a professional quality
product.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 85578] New: libreoffice slow to respond when gvfsd running

2014-10-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85578

Bug ID: 85578
Summary: libreoffice slow to respond when gvfsd running
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.2.6.3 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: BASIC
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: martyjw...@gmail.com

Since I have upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 (and kept up to date as updates are
pushed out), libreoffice (calc and writer, Build ID: 420m0(Build:3)) has become
barely responsive (every 10 seconds or so) from time to time if I have a gvfsd
mounted file system. As soon as I unmount the remote file system, libreoffice
is back to its chipper, responsive self. If I remount a remote filesystem,
libreoffice freezes back up. The most recent time I tried to unmount the remote
filesystem with libreoffice open (on a local file), gvfsd crashed. Then, I
remounted the remote file system and libreoffice was almost normally
responsive--perhaps a quarter of a second or less delay to mouse clicks and the
like, but there was still a humanly noticable delay.

The files I have open are found on the local hard drive, so at least on the
surface, libreoffice is not using the mounted remote file system.

I have tried a clean user profile. That seems to help for a while, but then the
problem re-asserts itself.

Is this about the "Wrap text" checkbox from the Alignment panel? In that case
the command is .uno:WrapText, and it can be found in the customization dialog
under the Format category with the title "Automatic Row Break". Unfortunately
it has no icon.

Hi Kevin, thanks for reporting.

If there is an absolute reference:
'Sheet 2'.A1: $'Sheet 1'.A1
copying the 'Sheet 2' to a new file the path is added.

For me not a bug.
If an absolute address the path is added to the address in the new file to
retain the referenced address.
If a relative address, is needed the referenced sheet in the new file,
otherwise we have an error, what is fine for me, so you know something is going
wrong.

With a relative address, it's possible copy both sheets at time to the new
file, selecting the sheets and using Menu/Sheets/Move-copy to do it.

For me, this article only proves that LibreOffice can be better than MS-Excel.
If MS-Excel is not able to sort correctly this case, it is a defect in
MS-Excel.

Well firstly i wanted to unify both Writer and Calc, as writer had 'Accept or
Reject' and Calc had 'Accept or Reject Changes'. I had suggested 'Changes List'

To my knowledge, there isnt an easy means of having separate names for the menu

Yes i was confused in comment 4 and after i saw your screenshot, comment 9 is
where i'm currently at now about adding both new in the drop down and submenu,
which i guess i should have explained at the time of comment 6.

> If you want to have New style in the style dropdown: fine. But then pls to

Well i guess this is where we are disagreeing. I dont think that its important
to identify the parent style when creating a new style from the main style drop
down.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 85415] STYLES: Easy access to create new styles from style drop down

2014-10-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85415

Hi Jay,

Do I understand it well that you change idea/argumentation in comment#4 and
comment#6 and comment#9 (while in comment#0 it's unclear, at least to me) ?

If you want to have New style in the style dropdown: fine. But then pls to the
new dropdown per style, which is a great addition to the tooling. Let's use
that. And not add confusing by introducing a new not indicated way it works.
I guess that technically not more difficult then adding it at the bottom of the
main dropdown? (In any case there must always be an indication of the parent
style).

I don't get why the new text is easier to understand then the existing one.
Also, as written before, the existing text indicates the possible action and
thus provides more information to the user.

So it would be good to change the tooltip, IMO :)

Works for me...
Maybe that is a problem in the versions you tested?

Still present in LO 4.3.2.
File dialogs (both open and save dialogs) modify the ALL file modification
dates in that directory to the current date. This happens at a rate of about 5
files/second, as long as the dialog is open, even if one cancels the dialog!

For me, this is an absolutely critical issue - I need the file modification
dates and LO has destroyed a lot of them!

Document with the two inserted documents

The bounding box of certain pdf imported into Impress is not correct. Two basic
pdfs were created using scilab (numerical calculation free software) and
gnuplot.

1. Create a new Impress document
2. Drag one of the attached pdf files onto an empty Impress slide
3. Observe how the pdf is displayed.

Results: The scilab pdf is cropped. The gnuplot pdf has extra white margin.

Workaround: It is possible to double click on the pdf and manually change the
limits, but this has to be done manually for each pdf and has the drawback that
the user will never do twice the same thing, so the inserted image cannot be
easily made of the same size on the slides.

See attached pictures and examples documents.

Libreoffice 4.3.1.2 on gentoo linux.

// Scilab 5.5.1 commands
x=0:2*%pi/100:(2*%pi)
plot2d(x, sin(x))
xtitle("The sine function", "abscissae (radians)", "coordinates (no unit)")
legend("sine")
// then in the graph window, choose File/Export.

# Gnuplot 4.6.5 commands

set output "test-libO.pdf"

Hi Jay, I don't think that hiding our most interesting and unique features will
add value to our suite. If we want to look like others, just remove the
stylist, the navigator and so on. Then LibreOffice will have exactly no benefit
over others while we have features to sell.
So please find a way to highlight the Navigator use instead of hiding it.
Cheers - Sophie

Printing to PDF
(a) Causes the loss of cross-references and table-of-content links in the
document.
(b) Is good only for printing. The text is not contiguous, you can't select a
sentence and copy it, for example. The selection simply doesn't follow the
vertical lines, which it does in the PDF exported directly from LibreOffice.

Hi Cor,

The Styles and Formatting window is a different control to the styles drop down
menu, so ultimately their behaviour will be different. The question is, "Should
a user be able to create a new style without having to first select a style
that it should be based on?" I say yes and you say no, but this behaviour is
available in the F11 window. Just right click in the empty white space under
the last style, and click 'New' and it will be based on 'Default Style'.

OK, so this apparently isn't exactly a bug in LibreOffice.

After Laurent's comment, I discovered the following file on my system:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\libeay32.dll

I removed _ssl.pyd previously copied from standalone Python and upgraded to
LibreOffice 4.3.2.2.

If I rename libeay32.dll (in C:\Windows\SysWOW64) to something like
libeay32.dll.bak and then launch Writer, email merge works fine over SSL. If I
rename the file back to libeay32.dll, the problem returns.

I found neither libeay32.dll nor ssleay32.dll in any other system directories.
I think an older OpenVPN client install (provided by Untangle) was responsible
for the libeay32.dll in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Newer OpenVPN client installs
keeps its own libeay32.dll/ssleay32.dll in C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\bin.
