inconsistent beaming...

2003-11-19 Thread c10221

hi all,

i'm using lilypond 2.1.0 on debian and i'm having a problem with beaming. i was
typesetting some chorales for four trombones and ran into some beaming
inconsistencies. everything i'm talking about can be seen in the pdf file at
http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/~c703284/chorals.pdf.

basically the main problem is that some eighth notes on beat four of a measure
are not beamed. if i manually beam them, then the beams are not created equal on
the same notes (page 1 of the pdf, in the fourth bar of the third voice and the
second to last bar of the third voice -- both times [g8 f8]).

on page 2 in the second to last bar the problem i am talking about can be seen
in voices 1, 3 and 4.

the other problem i'm running in to is that i'm getting lots of warnings
regarding bar-check failures at -3/4 and -1/4 ... (you can check this with the
file http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/~c703284/chorals.ly). the bars are all ok, and
if i generate the parts 1 by 1 (not in score) then the bar-check warnings are gone.

help anyone?

regards,
simon b.

The link to chorals.ly doesn't work at the moment, so it's hard to
answer your questions.

I attach a modified version of your file that works.

You managed to confuse LilyPond by your additional \partial statements
in the middle of the pieces. \partial should only be used at the
beginning of a piece.
If you simply remove all '\partial 2.' and the bar checks at the
repeat bars (which occur at 3/4 of the full bar), your score will
process without any warnings and give the desired beams without
any manual beaming. The '\partial 4' after the repeat doesn't
seem to do any harm but I don't think it gives you anything either.
I noticed that you used the old syntax for manual beams, by the way.
From LilyPond version 2.0, the '[' as well as all other annotations
to notes should be inserted after the note, not before it. This
explains the strainge layout in your example since you tried to
include a halfnote in the beam.
