err .. and its not I take it .. 

can't you just turn the tape over instead then[1]

[1]philips 2000 format, years ahead of its time, turn the tapes over like
an audio cassette, 8 hours per tape, perfect picture in still frame
(due to video head mounted on a piezo slab)  earlies 80's tecnology!..
ahhh .. and we got  vhs instead .. ho hum.
