I have been using Lubuntu on my Dell Mini. Found it far more efficient
than Xubuntu or Ubuntu. Only gripe, on smaller screen Global Menu does
give more real estate, though it suck on anything but netbooks.

You are correct. But sometimes they wont cover the audience around the
globe. That, in some fact, makes their surveys to prove bad in some
Regions. But they really do awesome job of spreading Ubuntu and other
stuff.

As a user of Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Lubuntu, I feel Lubuntu suits well
for me. So, suggest Lubuntu to people you like and ask them to try it
out ;]

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Review: Suggestions

2011-11-21 Thread Swapnil Bhartiya

Hi,

I am working on a review of Lubuntu 11.10 for Muktware.com. I found it
quite useful for those Ubuntu users who don't want 'shiny' and bleeding
edge technologies. They migrated from Windows and now considering Mint
(which I have no issues with). I think Lubuntu can be a Luring Ubuntu
for such users. The review will focus on ease of use. I may recommend
apps such as LibreOffice etc. Any pointers are welcome. Please advice.

My suggestion is to get advise from gilir and other developers before
starting the review as they are the Lubuntu Gurus.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] How To Access PCs on Local Network

2011-11-21 Thread William Mcleod
You can still do that in pcman, click on the location bar, then type
userName@1.1.1.1 , you'll get a password prompt. It's not obvious, maybe we
can add a connect to other computer option in pcman.

Assuming the other PCs are sharing files using the SMB protocol, in
Lubuntu, by default you use pcmanfm, not Nautilus, as a file browser.

In pcmanfm, click on Go - Network Drives, and browse to the desired
machine and share. As others have already noted, there are shortcuts
involving typing in URLs with unusual schemas such as smb: or network:
you can use, but that is not necessary, you can stay fully point and
click and access files shared on other machines.

If you are reviewing pcmanfm, or comparing it to Nautilus, please be
sure to take the time to explore all of its menus :)
