[libreoffice-marketing] Merchandise - be nice to see LG phone cases in the list
I looked at the Merchandise page and saw all of the iPhone and Samsung cases. I have used LG phones since the 90's. Now I use a LG phone "LGL41C" bought from the prepaid service called Tracfone [see the "note" below for info about the Tracfone service ]. So it would be nice to have the option to buy LG phone cases, or cases for other company's phone models. Also, I wish there was a code "source" that could look at the country of person browsing and then figures out the current about in their local money - like US Dollars or Canadian Dollars, or the Mexican money system, etc. A 14.99 Euro cup/mug is a little over $16.00 USD according to a currency exchange web site. Yes, the issue is the fact that the Euro towards US dollars keep changing and may change before you actually have time to buy it, so the "local currency" will have to be an "estimate due to currency rates can change hourly". So what do you think? For those not part of the EU money system, this might be a nice added option shown. For me, I would use PayPal to deal with the Euro-US Dollar rates. To be honest, I like some of the cup/mugs and I like buying "specialty" tee-shirts. It could be nice to see some lower price item, like "refrigerator magnets" in the shape of the "document icons" used in the logo and the desktop link icons. I have a lot of them on my fridge door and the metal entry/fire door. I also have a 13x19 inch paper printout of the LO logo on my door. [that is the largest I can print in my home-office] Of course, the local "merchandise print shops" will print up a lot of items and styles of items using the provided image file[s]. I have done that with a local organization I have been on the Board for 7 or 8 years. Made up pencils, carrying bags, mugs, and other items that did not need 50 or 100+ quantities for the minimum order. If you need any "visual" on items that might work, look at the Kiwanis [International] web sites. http://store.kiwanis.org/ is a good place to start. I buy items from there every so often. Note: For those who are not in the USA it is a very popular option who do not need a lot of calls, data, and text. You need to buy minutes every 3 months to keep the service going. For my phone I buy 60 minutes and I am actually buying 3 times that - 180 minutes - and get data and texts with the minutes. All three roll over. I currently have the phone paid up till May 8th with 1758 minutes total. I do not use this phone much. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-marketing] has anyone been keeping a list of migrations and such?
With the September 2015 Conference announcements, I was wondering if anyone has kept a list of all of these announcements. It would be a nice marketing tool to have a list of all of the Countries, and their agencies, mandating [etc.] the use of ODF. Also have another list with all of the Countries, Agencies, etc., that have announce the switch/migration to LibreOffice. In that September announcement, there was a reference to "The Italian Defense migrating some 150,000 desktops . . ". This type of information would be great to have in such a list. If you have such a list of the number of systems are migrating, it would be interesting to have a estimated total of all of the systems being [or have been] migrated to LibreOffice. If you can tell people/organizations, that 2.36 million [random figure] desktops/laptops have gone from MS Office to LibreOffice since September 2010, then that might make a positive impression. IT IS a hard sell for marketers in the USA to convince people, organizations, agencies, etc., that there is a good alternative to buying/renting MS Office. Having a list of countries, and their agencies, who are moving towards using ODF, instead of MS's file formats, and the numbers of systems that are moving towards using LibreOffice instead of MS Office, would make my life easier. Without "exact" figures written down, most people seem to think that I am promoting some badly created, flash-in-the-pan, software package that is used by geeks and not fit to run their business or organization with. SO has there been a list[s] created for all of these announcement "figures"? Would like to have a link to it, if it is available. The latest evolution of LibreOffice, version 5.0.1, came out Aug. 27 and provides users with new features and improved performance. LibreOffice bundles multiple components as part of the suite, including the Writer Document, Calc Spreadsheet, Impress Presentation, Draw, Math Formula and Base Database applications. Being able to import and export in multiple formats has always been an important element of LibreOffice's interoperability capabilities. In LibreOffice 5.0.1, Writer now has improved Apple Pages document import capabilities. For PDF export, the ability to time-stamp a document is now enabled. Manipulating images is now improved across the suite, with the ability to crop an image with a mouse. The Calc spreadsheet now benefits from improved formula handling as well as new conditional formatting capabilities. LibreOffice is typically available as the default office suite in many Linux distributions and is also freely available for Apple Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows applications. Then there are a few other edits to the html files, plus the creation of the DVD label files. The whole editing process, less the downloading of the 90+ install and pack files, takes about an hour or two. That is if I have the ability to sit down at a computer for the whole process in one go. Marc I went to SF when the new design of the LO download page system changed to where it pointed to my web page instead to the ISO version on the server. Then there was some issues with the process of uploading to one server, then someone had to move it to a different one or a different folder setup one that server. Depending on how busy the assigned admin was, it could take days or weeks for the file to be placed onto the mirrors when the push to mirrors cycle came. For SF, I knew that within an hour, or less, my ISO file[s] would be ready for downloading. Yes, sometimes it seems that I/users could use a better option then what SF is providing right now, with the last downtime, but there seems to be no other free place where developers could place/host their project for free. That really is true for files the size of a DVD ISO file. They are looking into the possibility of a return of having a place for DVD developers to have their work hosted on the server system and have a place within the download page[s] for a DVD ISO file to show up, or change the existing page to show the TDF hosted DVD files. We will see how that goes, in the future - near or not so near. With the several day down time of parts of SF system, I have had no downloads of the ISO file after the 15th. At that point I had 105 downloads from SF of my 4.4.4 version of the LO NA-DVD .iso file. Marc The SF debacle with the GIMP Windows install file should not affect an ISO file, hopefully. Since it does not depend on an executable file, such as .exe, to unpack and install the .iso file, there would not be any chance for them to insert some extras. Well, that said, the only way it would happen would be for them to recreate the .iso file itself. The only thing that is executable is the auto loading the DVD's initial HTML file to the browser, within Windows of course. I do that for ease of use for a Windows user, since the most OS downloads were/are from Windows systems. Here is the direct link, that works for me. http://sourceforge.net/projects/libreofficenadvd/files/4.4.x-versions/NA-DVD-LibreOffice-4.4.4.iso/download Now the question will be is if I should make a 5.0.0.x ISO file, or wait for 5.0.1 or 5.0.2.
[libreoffice-marketing] NA-DVD 4.4.4 ISO file uploading now
At this time - Tuesday July 7th 18:13 UTC - I am uploading the new NA-DVD .iso file to SourceForge.net. It will take 8 to 10 hours [or more] to upload the 4 gig .iso via my Internet connection, due to the change in my service contract. It has been awhile since my last creation of an ISO file version of an English LibreOffice DVD. Now that I have better health and fixed one of my hardware issues, the NA-DVD LibreOffice 4.4.4 version will soon be ready for users to download and burn a copy of the DVD. So hopefully by 12:00 Wednesday UTC, or sooner, it will show up on the following link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/libreofficenadvd/files/4.4.x-versions/ -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-marketing] need advice on which version I should make for new ISO file, after offline due to hospital visits
OK Marketing people. . . After a major stretch of time in and out of the hospital and bed-ridden for the rest of the time, I am starting to get ready to re-start making LibreOffice DVD ISO files for download. It has been months since I have been able to sit at this desktop for more than a few minutes at a time. I need to get your input on what version[s] I should start with first. I hope to start the work the first week in July. I have to deal with other local things on my large backlog of work that has been put on hold since the first hospital visit. Then I will be able to get back to marketing LibreOffice via .iso file downloads and handing the DVDs out locally to the people/organizations/businesses I have worked with in the past. Friday, I was told that I will not need another surgery on my back in the near future, so I am starting on working on this desktop more every day. By the end of the month I should be able to be on it long enough [over a couple of days] to do all of the work I need to do for the DVD .iso file and the other local marketing preparation. So . . . Any advice on what version I should download the 90+ files [install and help/language packs] start with for the English DVD ISO file that I will make to be downloaded from my Source Forge account? I than you in advance for any help you can render. Timothy Lungstrom living in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, USA. PS. I am really glad not to be flat in bed, at home or the hospital, for 23+ hours a day. I could not even use my laptops. My only access to the world was an Android tablet that was no good for doing any work I do with my laptops or my main system/desktop.
[libreoffice-marketing] Has anyone tried LO 4.3.x or 4.4.0 on the new Raspberry PI 2?
I was wondering if anyone on this list has bought the new Raspberry PI 2 mini-computer. I was thinking that with the much better specs, I wonder how well the newest version of LibreOffice will work on the new machine. Now that RPi2 has a quad core and 1GB of ram, it should be much better that the RPi B/B+. Since the original idea of the device was for cheap computers for use in schools and developers of computer controlled devices, having the newer LO version available for download would be good.
[libreoffice-marketing] Re: 190 downloads so far - Italy top country
Well, Tom suggested that I should post this on the List[s], so below it is. Forgive any spelling errors - OK - since I just came back from minor back surgery and my spelling before that was off for some reason [ha, ha, ha] The first day's country list was Italy, Germany, and the USA. As of yesterday morning USA, Spain, and Venezuela moved forward of Germany. I also have some Far East and/or Pacific Ocean area countries listed, as well. This encourages me, and maybe others, that there are people out there that likes our effort, or at least want to see what us local marketers are doing for the LibreOffice project. [libreoffice-marketing] NA-DVD 4.3.4 .iso file now online
Earlier today I was able to upload the 4.3.4.1 NA-DVD .iso file to SourceForge.net. https://sourceforge.net/projects/libreofficenadvd/files/4.3.x-versions/ The last version, 4.3.2, has had 459 downloads since it was uploaded. My thanks for that. Through delays in my schedule, 4.3.4 came out before I could get the 4.3.3 .iso online. There is one mistake, the version numbers of the portable software. I did not catch the error, but the latest [as of this morning] is actually in this version, even though it states it is the previous one. I will be fixing that later, along with updating the documentation files included. BUT, the Windows, Mac, and Linux install versions are what count [for most people]. The correction may need to wait for the next opening in my schedule a few weeks from now.

It is not exactly clear why, and I probably forgot a few things sine we first started all this, but I know for sure that in English, if you say Document Foundation it will not have the same effect than if you say the Document Foundation. The definite article the puts emphasis on the rest of the name, which itself has one very generic noun document. So The Document Foundation is really THE foundation of the Document. Hope this helps, Hello Charles, Yes. I thought exactly that you said. Thank you. Lera With The in front of the name, it implies that it is the best of what it does. Having TDF as the abbreviation, it makes that statement an emphasis to the fact that it is Th'E' one and only or the best. I am glad it made it into the name. The only issue for grammar would be the double the in the line using the proper full name use with the content like this is the that - i.e. - We see the The Documentation Foundation growing as its product LibreOffice becoming even more popular.

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] eCommerce
Take the ideas from the German and English DVD projects and make it into you own version. I have had several people in non-English countries use my project's DVD setup as the foundation of their version. Of course they had to change the text to their native language[s]. By doing this, you get some of the template code already written for you. IT makes it much easier for others not needing to create everything from scratch. That is what I did when I changed to the current DVD format. I downloaded all of the styles and scripts from the LO web site - several main versions ago - and built my browser based DVD from there so it would look similar to the official LO site but with my own variations. I plan on doing a major over hall in the near future, but I will have to write a lot of the template scripting myself, for what I want the new [ 4.4.x?} DVD look and feel. Best of luck on your DVD. I use Ubuntu and Linux Mint, plus Windows 7. Liked Ubuntu 9.x better than the early version of openSUSE I tried on an old desktop/server box [back then]. [libreoffice-marketing] NA-DVD ISO files online and updated
For those of you who have asked for them, I have just uploaded the LibreOffice North American Community DVD ISO files to my SourceForge.net project account. [my web hosting service will not allow the hosting of ISO files the size of CDs or DVDs] There are two folders, currently. One is for the 4.2.x line and the other is for the 4.3.x line. I just uploaded the 4.2.6 and 4.3.1 ISO files last night. This is the direct link to the project's files. http://sourceforge.net/projects/libreofficenadvd/files/ I still need to upload the files to my web site versions of the DVDs, for testing before downloading, but the ISO files are more important at this moment. I feel sorry for not having these ISO files up sooner, but my ongoing hardware and health issues have delayed a lot of things. I hope to get the next versions online without the delay that these two had.
