[MBZ] Old v new 140
Poos keeps saying to avoid the pre 96 140 because they had too many problems. I say poos is wrong. The main 2 problems are engine wiring harness and evaporator. Both of which has most likely already been replaced. The post facelift models have the 5 speed electronic transmission and a better ignition system. They are also cheapened out compared to the earlier 140s. They do have a few more gadgets but the build quality is not as good. The older engines do have more power but will get slightly less mileage. Some of the neat 140 features were eliminated in the later cars such as power center mirror and the backup antennas. The older version 140 just seems much more elegant and more stout to me. Re: [MBZ] Low Ball Larry
I may have shot myself in the foot with the all the photos, but pix lie. I have looked at cars in the field that looked great online, but were junk in person. If I had half a mind, I would buy junk cars, detail them, then turn around and sell them to the lowball larry types. But the sale would fail, because once they see the car, they would try to bargain. Wasting my time. Maybe I just change my perspective and tell them I am only able to discuss price in person after the car has been inspected. clay On Mar 23, 2016, at 5:31 PM, Curt Raymond via Mercedes wrote: > On the other hand they're not wasting your time crawling all over the car > before lowballing you... > -Curt > > From: clay via Mercedes> To: Mercedes Discussion List > Cc: clay > Sent: Wednesday, March 23, 2016 6:43 PM > Subject: Re: [MBZ] Low Ball Larry > > Not my car. Talk to them. There are generally yard rats who will help move the crane over and help you load the engine. I think the yard will haul it out on a pickup truck for you. Clay, the selling price of the car is determined by the market, not how much money the shop has spent fixing it. My son works with a fellow who has purchased a couple of vehicles in the past year in that manner. He calls the seller up and offers a fraction of the asking price and buys the vehicle. A lot of people really don't want the hassle of selling and if they don't get an immediate offer of what they asked, will take the first offer they get. I also had a client a few years back who was sort of a backyard used car dealer. He had a licence etc but no real store front shop. He would go around on weekends with a pocket full of cash and buy cars from private sellers. He never paid more than about half of what the asking price was. He would often just suggest to the seller that they were unlikely to get any better offers and advise he was prepared to pay cash immediately and would get the vehicle for his price. Sellers have often replaced the car already and don't have sufficient parking and do not wish to continue to pay licence and insurance etc. RB ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Duo valve
Sorry. I just know about them as some of the W140 people mentioned them. The duo valve on Tommy's former S420 doesn't want to work, which down here isn't an issue with very few exceptions. I've got a spare but the motor is noisy, so I'm not going to swap it. I suspect the valves are shot on it but I'm not that interested in fixing it at his point.
