Got it to work. My router for my home network needed to be configured to allow
transfers. I am downloading right now. Thank all of you for helping me with
this. Now I am wondering, what else is available in the ftp world and how do I
find it?

Same thing with internet explorer. Additionally, if I have smartFTP

What else could be wrong?

In WS_FTP, you may need to break up that URL and enter the pieces
separately.

For the hostname (or server, I forget what WS_FTP calls it) put:
telshena.dyndns.org

For the username, put:
Diesel

For the password, put:
diesel

2005-07-07 Thread Joe Knight
Using an ftp client has the added advantage -most of them anyway- that
if your connection is interrupted during a download your can resume
the download from the point at which it was interrupted instead of
starting over from scratch, which can be quite significant when
downloading files the size of these manuals. SmartFTP is another good
one, free for personal use. All you really need to download for all
the manuals except the 201 is the Program folder. Get Acrobat reader
from adobe.com and Flash from macromedia.com if you don't already
have them. Then find the file matrix.htm or matrix6.htm, depending on
the specific manual. Make a shortcut to that file, rename it for
identification purposes, and put it in a convenient place (like your
desktop) and use the shortcut to take you directly to model selection
in the manual(s) w/o having to wade thru the usual startup nonsense.
Expect the downloads to take quite a number of hours depending on the
speed of the server and/or your own connection; this shouldn't however
preclude using your machine for other purposes.

Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> check the box for "Enable Folder View for FTP Sites". Doing that forces IE
into active FTP, regardless of the whether the box for "Use Passive FTP" is checked or not.

Better yet, get a real FTP client:

WS_FTP: http://www.ipswitch.com/downloads/index.html
CuteFTP: http://www.cuteftp.com/products/ftp_clients.asp

Grab one of those and use it to access the site, instead of a web browser.

Unlike Internet Exploder, I'm unaware of any option in FireFox to change between passive and active FTP transfers. So,
either use IE, or use an actual FTP program instead of a web browser. WS_FTP is great, so is CuteFTP, and there are
tons of free FTP clients out there.

You'll have to use a "real" FTP client, not a web browser. I don't
think Firefox supports active mode, and the person who hosts that site
has disabled passive mode. If you're running Windows, WSFTP is one option.
