2014-02-14 Thread Domen Kožar
Thank you all for submitted ideas!

We've officially applied for GSOC 2014. On 24th of Feb at 19:00 UTC
accepted mentoring organizations will be announced by Google.
There are many organizations applying each year, but let's hope for the
best :-)

BTW: You're still welcome to add more ideas to the list:

Cheers, Domen

Very cool, thanks!

I've added one idea to the list (improving lightweight container support).

I've also participated in SoC - it's a fantastic project. I've been a
student twice and a mentor twice. I would be happy to help mentor a
student with NixOS this year.

Hi Domen,

This is a great idea, thanks for doing it! I've added some ideas to the
wiki, but I'd love to be a mentor for pretty much anything.

[Nix-dev] Google Summer of Code 2014

2014-02-13 Thread Domen Kožar
Hi all,

Google Summer of Code is a program organized by Google giving organizations
in open source opportunity to pay students to work on open source projects.

Many successful students become contributors after the projects ends. Also,
participating in GSOC is a healthy sign of an open source project.

Below is a wiki entry of ideas that a student would accomplish in 3 months.
The deadline to apply as an organization is tomorrow, I'm willing to do
that step, but we have to produce a list of ideas with potential mentors by
tomorrow afternoon (18:00 UTC).

Maybe to get a better idea, take a peek at Google's list

Disclaimer: I've participated in GSOC for 4 years as a student and I feel
like it's time to step at the other side :-)
