[NTG-context] Rows and lines in tables
Hello all, I'm a new ConTeXt user (started using it a few days ago) and I do have three problems now with tables which I could not solve reading the manual and the content of the ConTeXt wiki. I've created a minimal example (see below) illustrating my problems: 1. How can create lines with different widths using the "\DL" command as I do with "\HL[]" oder "\VL[]"? This would, in my example, allow to align the "dummy" text in the first table with the numbers in the second table. 2. How can I create a carriage return in the text of a table cell? Neither "\crlf" nor "\\" do work (tried it with the "AAA" and "BBB" text in the first table to get them into the same cell. 3. How can I synchronize the height of the first two lines of the first table with those of the second table, no matter if there's a line between the rows (as in the second table, a thin one as in my example or even a fat one) or not (like in the first table which visually has a "big cell")? Can I create an "invisible line"? How do I line up the "BBB" with the "YYY / ZZZ" line? Or, another possibility, how do I control the rows independently, having the "BBB" in the first table very close to the "AAA", perhaps even three lines of text there, and at the same time only two rows of text in the second table? What about having only one line of text in the first table, vertically centered to the corresponding two rows of the second table? === [example] === \starttext \define\bold{8} \startcombination[2*1] {\starttable[|c|] \HL[\bold] \VL[\bold] AAA \VL[\bold]\FR \VL BBB \VL\LR \HL[\bold] \VL dummy1 \VL\SR \HL \VL dummy2 \VL\SR \HL \VL dummy3 \VL\SR \HL[\bold] \VL dummy4 \VL\SR \HL \VL dummy5 \VL\SR \HL \VL dummy6 \VL\SR \HL[\bold] \VL dummy7 \VL\SR \HL \VL dummy8 \VL\SR \HL \VL dummy9 \VL\SR \HL[\bold] \stoptable}{} {\starttable[|c|cw(3cm)|] \HL[\bold] \VL[\bold] \use{2} XXX \VL[\bold]\FR \HL \VL YYY \VL[1] ZZZ \VL\LR \HL[\bold] \VL 1 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 2 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 3 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 4 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 5 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 6 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 7 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 8 \VL \VL \SR \DL\VL\DR \VL 9 \VL \VL \SR \HL[\bold] \stoptable}{} \stopcombination \stoptext === [/example] === I know, a layout with all these horizontal lines and two tables sitting next to each other is not the best one, but I'm trying to reconstruct an existing document which is designed that way. [NTG-context] new module: streams
Dear all, as you may have seen in the lates release notes, ConTeXt has a new feature: we have now streams for even and odd pages that can be synchronized at certain points. This is useful for, e.g., typesetting bilingual books: have the original on the even pages, the translation on the odd pages, and synchronize at certain points. I was very tenacious about it, and Hans has been characteristically generous with his skills and his time and has implemented something. I'm sure if some of you are interested, we will be able to refine it. I am uploading a pdf-document displaying this new feature to our institute's website. Due to the system our university uses, it may take until tomorrow until it's really visible at http://www.uni- bonn.de/www/Philologie/Personal/Schmitz/Dateien.html It's a bilingual (Greek-German) edition of a number of Greek texts for my lecture course next semester. It's not perfect, but it shows how powerful this new feature is. Have a look at it; if anybody is interested in seeing the source code, just contact me, and I'll be happy to send it along. Just a very brief explanation, if you want to try this at home: In the module, Hans has suggested a few shortcuts to using it, so I have in the preamble of the document: \usemodule[streams] \def\StartCouple{\page\SwitchToNormal} \def\StopCouple {\SwitchToNormal \SynchronizeLeftAndRight \FlushLeftAndRight} \def\Original {\SwitchToNormal\SynchronizeLeftAndRight\SwitchToLeft} \def\Translation{\SwitchToRight} So you put the part of your document where synchronization should take place between \StartCouple and \StopCouple. After that , \Original and \Translation switches between even and odd pages. I know that several people on the list asked for a similar feature, and I'm very grateful to Hans for providing it. [NTG-context] Quotations
I use \startquotation and \stopquotation a lot. I would like to visually strengthen the quotations because some are pretty lengthy and a reader might forget that it is not me that is writing here. I have been thinking about applying a light grey background or a border of sorts (which should then be open at the top of bottom if the quotation flows over a page boundary. But then I get new problems and so I decided to start over and ask the list for help. First Problem (may be the mother of all the others): The Batch-Files 'cdemo.bat' and 'cscite.bat' are using for example "%~s1" for the first placeholder on the commandline. My Windowssystem (ME) doesn't understand this. Are there other Batch-Files that work on older commandoprozessors to download? Hi, How about renaming the font related zips to f-somename.zip (just like modules are organized in t-somename.zip files). Also, the font zips need to be made tds (texmf tree) compliant: bibtex fonts tex metapost doc + the right context subpaths so, no texmf root included there should be no README files in the root, although i can imagine that we permit t-somename.readme the t-greek zip needs to be repackaged (zip inside zip + texmf root) that way i can fetch the files automatically and create a cont-ext.zip file automatically Hans - Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl - ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

[NTG-context] Regression Test project started
Hello everybody, I am pleased to let you know that a regression test project for ConTeXt has started. The pages of the project are here: https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contexttest/ and the goal is to create a repository of small, easily verifiable test files to test new ConTeXt releases against. The project is of course looking for help from the community. You do not have to have a deep understanding of ConTeXt to be able to help! you only have to know how to write an input file that tests a small part of ConTeXt (say \startitemize options), nothing complicated. We will put all those files in the version control system, and eventuall create an automated system to compile the whole batch overnight after each new beta release. If you want to join in, please register yourself as a user on the above site and let me know so I can add you to the project and its mailing list.
