[nysbirds-l] Harlequin Duck on Staten Island

2016-04-13 Thread Isaac Grant
Not that anybody comes out here to chase birds but there has been an adult male
Harlequin seen twice in the past week at Great Kills Park. It was first found
last week by Dick Veit off of the salt flats just north of the main parking
lot. Today it was found in the afternoon off of the harbor parking lot and
spent most of the afternoon sitting on the rocks until chased by someone with a
camera as the story goes. I have not seen the bird but passing on the info as
we don't get too many of these in the city.

The HARLEQUIN DUCK was still present around 450pm this afternoon. It had moved
a bit from its initial location, and was seen from the overlook that goes under
VN bridge at Ft. Wadsworth. Bird was between shoreline and bridge pylon.

Just had a female Harlequin swimming at the base of Fort Wadsworth. Only
visible from the bluffs of Von Briesen Park and looking down onto fort and
pilings. Last seen swimming towards the bridge and around side of fort. This is
a small park at the corner of school road and Bay Street.
