yes, the priority should be bumped, however you can, and should manually

For an upper bound, use the build time: The very same tests are run during the
build. And I think this is done for many packages.

The other question is, if it's sensible to run the upstream test suite as an
autopkg test, if it's already run during the build. Ideally it should only run
the autopkg tests which test on integration issues with run time dependencies,

For now I just disabled the jdk tests as an autopkg test. So please clear the

no, debian policy requires this to be a copy, unless it's one of the common
licenses. Needs updating, but not yet for the next upload.

please could you stop doing these NMUs? There's no reason to fast-track those

I don't think that referring to the Ubuntu autopkg testers is helping here. I
couldn't find any documentation on the timeout settings for the Debian
infrastructure, for both amd64 and arm64. I think it would help to document
these constraints (and yes, Ubuntu doesn't document those either). Apparently
the very same tests don't time out on the buildds.

Unsure if you want to track that under the release.d.o meta issue.

The zero build fails on armel. It builds on -13, -14 and -15, so maybe it's
just a bad build in the archive which needs a re-bootstrap.

Maybe related to this, the armhf zero build also fails, now disabled for the
packaging.

yes, will be part of the CPU update next week.

I disagree. I'll do the next upload with Samuel's proposed patches, not
enabling that by default, together with the planned security update. Then
people can start testing if the wrapper works.

Enabling features during the freeze which were broken most of the time during
the development cycle sounds risky. We don't have release goals anymore.

please don't NMU. In the past the atk patches broke the non-atk use case way too
often. Maybe you want to upload to a PPA or to experimental to give this a
little bit more testing.

[Openjdk] Bug#926009: openjdk-11 breaks libreoffice autopkgtests

Control: reassign -1 src:libreoffice

pointy comments won't help, because you will see these changes at least in the
first buster security update, so maybe some backports for libreoffice are
needed? is that fixed in 6.2.x?

Bug description:
Openjdk-11 is now in bionic-proposed, and apparently it has switched
to gtk3. The gtk3-java theming in Ambiance theme is very incomplete in
Bionic. I can see a lot of theming artefacts in scilab (default look)
and jabref (after switching to gtk look) from bionic-proposed.

Steps to compare between java-gtk2 and java-gtk3 theming in Ambiance
  on Bionic:

  A. For java-gtk2:
  1. Don't update to openjdk-11 in bionic-proposed
  2. Install jabref 3.8.2+ds-3
  3. Change the look in Preferences to Gtk
  4. Notice that the app is properly themed

  B. For java-gtk3:
  5. Install jabref 3.8.2+ds-12~18.04 from bionic-proposed
  6. Change the look in Preferences to Gtk
  5. Notice that the theming has many artefacts compared to the previous version

The same steps can be followed to compare scilab before and after.

 pocket as well.

The packages are being build on PPAs under the
  https://launchpad.net/~openjdk-11-transition team. The PPAs depend
solely on the security pocket and are separated in stages.

The agreed process among foundations and the security team is that
packages in the PPAs will be binary copied into bionic-proposed,
checked for migration issues, and - no issues pending - copied into
  bionic-security.

NOTE TO SRU MEMBERS: The packages are to be released into bionic-
security ONLY. This will be done/decided by the security team.

Bug description:
Transition OpenJDK 11 to 18.04 LTS.

This transition is a security update of openjdk-lts from openjdk-10 to
openjdk-11. This introduces runtime and FTBFS issues which requires
backports of multiple packages into the security pocket as well.

A few packages might also need to be updated in Cosmic, but as an
exception that will be done after the Bionic transition is worked out.

  [2019-02-21]
Packages in stage 1 and stage 2 have been verified by the security team and
are ready to be copied into bionic-proposed.

  Notes:

Transition OpenJDK 11 to 18.04 LTS.

This transition is a security update of openjdk-lts from openjdk-10 to
openjdk-11. This introduces runtime and FTBFS issues which requires
backports of multiple packages into the security pocket as well.

A few packages might also need to be updated in Cosmic, but as an
exception that will be done after the Bionic transition is worked out.

[Openjdk] [Bug 1814133] Re: update to openjdk 11 in 18.04 LTS

2019-02-26 Thread Matthias Klose
 under the
  https://launchpad.net/~openjdk-11-transition team.

A few packages might also need to be updated in Cosmic, but as an
exception that will be done after the Bionic transition is worked out.

  [2019-02-21]
Packages in stage 1 and stage 2 have been verified by the security team and
are ready to be copied into bionic-proposed.

  Notes:
   - jtreg and testng are new versions required as build dependencies of

This transition is a security update of openjdk-lts and requires new
dependencies as well as package backports and SRU fixes to go into the security

no, why are you exaggerating? Both the jre and the jdk are usable.

checked the -8 installer as well, and it has the same priority.

the preinst files is wrong as well, having a wrong path.

that should not be changed, because the oracle-install needlessly bumps
the priority over the openjdk, making it the default. This was said
several times, and it's wrong to remove that conflict.

  From https://lists.launchpad.net/openjdk/msg13098.html

  Hello,

I maintain an Oracle Java 10 PPA [1] (based on Andrew's scripts from
webupd8.org but modified for Oracle Java 10) and I noticed that OpenJDK
packages in Debian and Ubuntu have "Conflicts: oracle-java10-installer" in
the control file which means you can't install both Oracle Java and OpenJDK.

I searched for the reasons behind this and all I could find was a mention
that the oracle-javaX-installer package automatically incremented the Java
priority a long time ago. This is no longer the case though. Is there
anything else I need to tweak to the oracle-java10-installer package to
have that "Conflicts: oracle-java10-installer" removed from the Debian /
  Ubuntu packages?

  [1] https://launchpad.net/~linuxuprising/+archive/ubuntu/java

  Thanks,

  -Logix

No, this is not a clean sid install, it has the the man pages stripped. You
should report that to the provider of update-alternatives. There is nothing
that can be done in the openjdk packages.

[Openjdk] Bug#905575: OpenJDK 10 package size increased by 100MB (debug symbols)

2018-09-26 Thread Matthias Klose
The reason that libjvm.so is not stripped is, that jmap needs the debug
information to properly work. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-6/+bug/574997

Afaics we cannot strip this library. jmod now copies that file, shipping it in
fact twice. Sure, if we can get rid of the second copy, or ship the second copy
unstripped, then we can reduce the size. jlink isn't used for package building
so I assume we can live with that.
