PESO 2017 - New Bike Day! - GDG
Yesterday was a big event … I'm back on two wheels after a dozen years absence! I am so jazzed! It's always hard to know how far to go retouching photos of older women. Some of them are proud of their "battle scars" and will get mad if you remove even one tiny wrinkle. Others still want to be seen as the Ingénue. I invariably choose the wrong one and have to do it all over again. Good thing PhotoShop has layers. OTOH, I think I'd apply a vignette to darken the upper right & left corners so they don't compete as much with the subject. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. It was an excellent and massive exhibit, well worth a visit. I doubt that many PDMLer's are nearby, but in case anyone is passing that way... All 723 of Curtis' prints were on display - the full set. The museum believes this is the first time the entire set has been displayed. I wondered how a fairly small museum got this exhibit and where it would go next. As it turns out the Muskegon public library was one of the 200+ subscribers to the original project and received the books and photogravure prints as they were published. A docent told me that at this time there were no plans to travel the show. My only complaint - 723 prints plus supplemental displays is a bit overwhelming - I plan another visit or two over the summer. Re: Mac external drive trouble
Update on the external drives: I ordered a Seagate 2TB drive from OWC, mounted it inside the Mercury Elite Pro mini enclosure, and used Time Machine to make a backup. I erased the defective drive, copied the backup to it, and set Time Machine to back up to both. So far, so good. There was a some bother because of two defective FW800 cables, but I got it sorted. So, today, I was able to do some shooting =and= post a PESO. Cheers, and thanks to all who answered. OT -Unexptected Good News from Subaru
Just over a year ago I posted about the failure of my Subaru CVT transmission, and appreciated the advice I got here. Yesterday I received a notice from Subaru that they have retroactively extended the warranty on the CVT's to 10 years / 100K. The letter included a claim form to get reimbursement for out of pocket repair costs for those of us who had their CVT fail. Subaru picked up 50% of the cost to replace my transmission but I was still out of pocket about $4000 - good on Subaru to step and cover this problem. Re: OT -Unexptected Good News from Subaru
Mark, that is indeed good news. Pity they didn't refund in full. I see many manufacturers are extending their warranties (in SA, 7 years; 200 000 km has now become the norm). They are all desperate to keep their market share. Ford had (still has?) their challenges with the Fiery Ecosport engines. We have even had deaths in SA & Ford was very slow to respond, simply telling people to claim on their insurance. The original "diagnosis" was coolant circulation inefficiencies but, after corrective repairs, the fires continued. They now say the fires may be caused by a burst hose on the power steering which causes flammable fluid to spray onto the exhaust manifold. Ford has taken a huge knock in SA. You pay your money & hope for the best.
