[PHP] Help choosing on-line transactions company

2003-09-02 Thread Cesar Aracena
Hi all,

I’m about to start building e-commerce credit/debit card processing Web
Sites in a regular basis but I don’t have a clue on how to do that using
PHP. I have to consider a couple of things before subscribing with
VeriSign or any other company. I wonder if anyone how had implemented
this before using pure PHP can give me a head start by pointing me in
the right direction on which service to hire based on the next few
things:

1. I use only rent-a-server services, so I don’t have physical access to
the Server and I’m sure they won’t install any kind of out-of-the-box
software for me, so I have to implement everything with PHP. I do have
the option for SSL.

2. I live in Argentina, so I need a service that can process
credit/debit cards issued not only in the USA or any other first world
country but also world wide ones (Visa International, American Express
International and Visa Electron cards).

3. I don’t have a Merchant Account. I just have a common Checking
Account in the US, where the money would be deposited to.

4. If everything goes smooth and I start selling out Web Sites with
on-line credit card processing, the system I choose must be able to
handle detailed reports, so at the end of the month I know exactly how
much I have to transfer to each one of my clients.

Thanks for all in advanced,

Cesar Aracena

Re: [PHP] Animating with GD?

2003-09-02 Thread Jaakko Hyvätti
On Wed, 27 Aug 2003, Simon Fredriksson wrote:
> Is it possible to create GIF animations using GD?

Yes, with patches from: http://www.iki.fi/hyvatti/sw/ .

-Jaakko

  Animated GIF output for PHP

   php-4.3.2-gifanim.diff - patch to php-4.3.2 and php-4.3.3RC1 to
implement LZW compressed GIF images and GIF89a animations. Can be used
when LZW properly licensed from Unisys or where otherwise legal. For
most of the world, the Unisys patent is not valid and for example in
the US the patent expired June 20th 2003. The configuration part of
the patch might not be as beautiful as it could, I hope someone of the
developer could help here. I hope this gets included in future
   releases of PHP.

The patch essentially copies gd_lzw_out.c file from gd1.5.tar.gz to
php-4.3.2/ext/gd/libgd/ with minor modifications, and patches other
places in php source to include compilation of this file. This patch
is based on patches from http://www.rime.com.au/gd/.

The animation part of this patch implements three new functions,
   imagegifanimbegin(), imagegifanimadd(), and imagegifanimend(). With
these functions, animated gif images can be created on the fly with
php. The documentation for the functions is included in
php-doc-anim.diff. Note that the animations are not optimized, as they
are written frame by frame to output or files. This is just a fast
non-cpu-intensive way of creating animations on the fly. You need to
process the resulting file with for example gifsicle if you need
   optimized files: http://www.lcdf.org/gifsicle/ .

I am in no way promoting GIF format over such superior formats as PNG,
MNG or JPEG, but for some todays applications GIF format still has its
uses. For example PNG and MNG are not supported in any 3G mobile
terminals and GIF89A is the only way to create animations for visually
attractive content. Even Mozilla project does not include MNG support
for their code by default, so GIF89A is the only option.

Note! If you are using mod_perl also with Apache, you must not use the
included libgd in php distribution, but you have to configure with
external php library, the same one perl GD module uses. Otherwise you
   will get segmentation faults.

  Animated gif output for GD-2

gd-2.0.15-gifanim.diff - a patch to GD-2.0.15 to make it read and
write gif files and write animated gif files. Ported from PHP changes
above. There is no manual, just try to read gd.h.

The patch essentially copies files gd_gif_in.c and gd_lzw_out.c from
gd1.5.tar.gz with minor modifications to bring the interface up to
gd-2 level, and patches gd.h for prototypes and makefile to include
compilation of this file. This is based on pathces from
   http://www.rime.com.au/gd/.

Animated gif output for perl GD module

GD-2.07-gifanim.diff - a patch to perl module that implements the perl
interface to the above patched gd-2.0.15. Even documentation is
   included this time!

No, it is not included in gd any more. You have two options:

- Enable the php internal gd implementation when you compile php. It
includes read support for gif. Note that if you use mod_perl within the
same apache server you cannot use the internal implementation as it would
conflict with the external library used by perl GD module.

- Patch your gd to include gif support, for example with patches from
here: http://www.iki.fi/hyvatti/sw/ or here: http://www.rime.com.au/gd/
Now compile your php with this.

Google for 'gd patch patent gif' for these answers.

Did you restart the web server?

Look at a phpinfo() page in the first block for the "configuration file"
setting and make sure you're editing the right php.ini file.

echo 'Summary: ' . implode(' ... ',$matches[0]);

[PHP] search result highlighting / regexp voodoo

2003-09-02 Thread Lee O'Mara
At the risk of this looking like a cheap tactic for getting someone else to
do my work for me, I'll put the disclaimer at the top. Understand that what
I'm looking for is new perspective on a problem that I've spent too much
time dealing with.

PROBLEM:
I want to produce short "snippets" for search result pages. The search
results are already partially processed (search terms get wrapped in
[strong] tags), but I keep hitting dead-ends with this step. Now, I've
tried a wide number of approaches, spent an embarasing amount of time and
arrived at no viable solution. Learning regular expressions would probably
have been less painfull, but there you have it.

REQUIREMENTS:
- the snippet should be made up of five words on either side of the search
terms.
- end product cannot have any unclosed/unmatched tags.

SETUP:
- Search terms are (already) marked up in [strong] tags with a class
attribute of term1 - term3.
- No other tags exist in the string (other than aforementioned [strong]
tags)

EXAMPLE INPUT:
The journalist/critic Edmund Gosse begins championing Ibsen in English periodicals. His article "Ibsen the Norwegian Satirist" (Fortnightly Review,
January 1873) is later expanded in his book Studies in the Literature of
Northern Europe (1879). In contrast, the conservative dramatic critic
Clement W. Scott begins writing columns for London's Daily Telegraph; he comes to consider the
influence of Ibsen the worst thing that ever
happened to English drama. His hysterically negative attack on Ibsen's Ghosts in 1891 will be paraphrased (and
reduced to ridicule) by Shaw in the first
chapter of The Quintessence of Ibsenism
(1891).

EXAMPLE OUTPUT:
... journalist/critic Edmund Gosse begins championing Ibsen in English periodicals. His article ... Scott
begins writing columns for London's Daily
Telegraph; he comes to consider ... (and reduced to ridicule) by Shaw in the first chapter of The Quintessence...

Something I used in the past was a php script communicating with a long running
application via sockets: the script would collect data, send it to the app for
processing which would pass it back to the php script which fpassthru() back to
the client. It was very fast too.

I sure hope that URL is 404.

When you include a valid external URL you're including what that URL
outputs (should be obvious)? So pull up
'http://www.foo.com/includes.php' in your browser. View the source.
That's what you're including.

[PHP] Cookies & Hidden Image

2003-09-02 Thread Nicole
Hi,

I am working on a script that uses cookie to store some info on the client
side. The user will click a link that contains info about where the link
was placed. The script will then store that info so that when the user
returns later and makes a purchase, I can see where they came from.

The problem I am having is this:

The link is a redirect url that first goes to one domain where the cookie is
created by. Then they are taken to the site where products are sold.

Then, after they make a purchase, they are taken to a thank you page that
has a hidden tracker to track that sale.

http://trackerurl.com/?var=1&var=2&blahbla height=0 width=>

The image loads the script from a different domain (where the cookie was
initialy created by). The problem now is that the script gets a blank
cookie when using the hidden image to load the script.

So does anyone know why this is happening?

I have   setCookie('CookieName', $value, $expires);

Then I try to retrieve that cookie again later with $_COOKIE['CookieName']
... but the value stored is not there when the script is called from the
hidden image. HOWEVER, the value is there when the script is called
directly.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

This really begs the question of WTF you have a 10,000+ line file that
you only need a couple lines from... seems like your logic is screwy.

Anyhow, you have two solutions, each of which have been presented to you
already. Either fopen() the file and read the lines you need, then
eval() them, or copy the lines you need to another file and include that.

Like Chris mentioned, if you must keep your program running this way,
using a filesystem call to copy X lines to a new file may be your
fastest method.

Hate to repeat what's already been said, but those are your options.
Post back with specific questions when/if one of these do not work for you.

I don't think you're going to be able to do this in the way that you
want (I've been wrong before).

I think your only option is to somehow rip the lines that you want into
another file before you do the include.

You could try using the the file system to copy only certain lines to
another temporary file and then include that temp file instead of the
whole thing.

Another option would be to tweak the logic so that it's not so bloated.

I missed most of this thread, since it appeared to be off-topic, but you might
consider changing the action attribute of your form to point to a PHP script
that can call your CGI as needed. It's worth trying anyway, and PHP should
already have the right privileges to execute it.

This PHP script could conveniently access the PHP session (which your CGI could
do also, but with much more hassle) as well as all GET and POST data, and you
could use it as a wrapper to your CGI. This would also make future transitions
easier, if you forsee taking that path.

Hope that helps.

Yes. Remove those first ten lines (assuming they are removable) from the
original file you had them in and then include them in the old file with
include_once().

Then in the file you want to only include the ten lines just include the
smaller file.

Example: (I'm changing your 10 line requirement to 2 lines.)

Original.php:

Line 1
Line 2
Line 3
Line 4
Line 5

Take out Line 1 and Line 2 and put them in 2lines.php.

2Lines.php:

Line 1
Line 2

Then Original.php becomes this:

include_once "2Lines.php";
Line 3
Line 4
Line 5

Then in your other file that you need the 2 lines you can do just this:

NewFile.php:

include_once "2Lines.php";

if no session
	include javascriptAutoForm_class.php
(send a client side script, post the result and save post in session,
saves too original page requested)

include Menu_class.php
include template.php
(From the session pageRequested menu is built and correct content is
loaded with an include)

closed and quoted attributes)

If some one can help or point me in the right direction (if needed can

Actually, upon further reading it seems I won't be able to do this.

If I pass parameters in this fashion, the web server will make them available in
QUERY_STRING, but I need to use the GET method.

The form is using the POST method so that the file that is being uploaded and
processed gets handed to the cgi program through stdin.

So looks like I can't have it both ways, i.e. POST and GET, stdin and query string env
var.

How do you display the form again when there is a "notification"?

Something as simple as:

will (safely) "remember" POSTed variables when you show the form again.

Does that mean you solved it? Remember that PHP is case sensitive, too.
$_POST['Resolution'] is not the same as $_POST['resolution'].

If you're still having trouble, go back to some basic debugging. Do a
print_r($_POST) so you actually know what $_POST contains, to begin with.

Ah, I see now.

If you're using a file upload box and submitting that form directly to your
.exe, then there's probably not much you can do.

In order to do this, I think you'll have to "intercept" the file.

When the user submits the file, it goes to a PHP script that copies it
somewhere. Then see if you can make an exec() call to the system and set the
"REMOTE_USER" variable, somehow. I'm not sure on the syntax/possibility of
that, it would depend upon your OS. Then make another exec() call to your
C++ program and send it the path the the file that was already uploaded.
Capture the output and show it to the user or do whatever you normally do.

[PHP] evaluating dynamic variable

2003-09-02 Thread Steve Goodman
Hi,
I'm having trouble evaluating a dynamic variable. I want to check if the
variable $_POST["resolutions$i"] is an empty string, as you'll see from the
code. However, every way I've tried to check the variable so far (including
empty() and eval()) always returns a null value, even when the variable
should contain a value. I've probably been doing something wrong in my
previous efforts. Can someone recommend a way to reliably evaluate this
variable?

for ($i=1; $i<=$entries; $i++) {
   if($_POST["resolutions$i"] !== ''){
do_something();
   }
  }

Thanks.

The file would already exist on the client side. They are uploading the file to be
processed by this program MyCppProg.exe, which is invoked as a form 'action'. This
already works, but depends on the Apache variable REMOTE_USER being set when user logs
in, but we moving to implement a different method for authentication that involves
talking to two different Oracle databases, password rules, etc., so this REMOTE_USER
variable no longer gets set since we are bypassing Apache's authentication here.

So I need to set an 'environment' variable that remains visible to scripts and progs
within the session space, that can then be grabbed by the MyCppProg.exe, for example
with getenv("MyEnvVar"). It used to use getenv("REMOTE_USER").

I'm hoping to not have this variable have to be part of the file that gets uploaded.

There are a number of possible solutions. If i remember correctly some
compressed file types need the ability to handle them compiled into PHP.

Try different things. Sometimes the easiest way to do things is to FTP
into the remote server and ftp into your server to transfer it.

Right. That is what I had tried before, using it as a hidden parameter. I will try

I'm not sure what you mean, do you mean let each users mark messages as
read or not read? Well, if you don't mind the space in a mySQL database
you could create a read_bool BIT in the table and for each user
reference it. Of course, if you don't expire forum entries or index the
tables you will be looking at serious performance issues.

Er, nope. If you have a version of PHP with the $_SESSION array, then you use it for both setting *and* retrieving -- session_register() and friends should *not* be used in this case. (Indeed, there are circumstances where the combination of session_register() with $_SESSION gives broken behaviour.)

Well ODBC implies that you are going to have a database program (i.e.
Oracle, SQL Server, Access, whatever) to connect to. At least that's
how I understand it to work. So if you don't have a copy of Access
running you will need to figure out how to export it to Access format,

Sorry I don't have a resource for you, but passwords shouldn't use
dictionary words in the first place. Have you considered creating random
passwords?

Re: [PHP] Restart Apache with PHP???

2003-09-02 Thread Dan Anderson
Search the archives. Somebody wanted to restart their server using a
web page, and a clever solution was pointed out. By creating a script
that monitored for a particular file in temp and restarted the server if
it existed it, and cronning it for every minute, they could do it safely
and securely.

hi,

There isn't a specific PHP api for this. But you can execute shell
commands through various mechanisms included exec, backticks etc etc.
All of this is deadly dangerous of course because you need root privileges.

I sure hope that URL is 404.

When you include a valid external URL you're including what that URL
outputs (should be obvious)? So pull up
'http://www.foo.com/includes.php' in your browser. View the source.
That's what you're including.

[PHP] accessing $GLOBALS values

2003-09-02 Thread Dennis Gearon
I am looking at the 'tackle' library available at sourceforge. It's a
'Tiny ACL' (access control list). Seems pretty good, simple and to the
point.

AND, it is database neutral, using ADODB. I haven't figured out how
it does referential integrity in the database yet, but I suspect it's
using table locking.

One thing I'm a little confused about is the usage of $GLOBALS array, in
this manner:

  $GLOBALS[SOME_NAME].

I thought that it should be:

  $GLOBALS['SOME_NAME'].

Not directly as far as I know. Try using chronyd or similar (google will point

I'm not clear whether you are saying you get the records where there is a
match and no non-matching records, or simply no records at all!

What happens if you take out the WHERE clause, do you get all the records from
p being displayed with NULLs for c.projectid where no match exists?

[PHP] Re: Copy database from MySQL to MSAccess

2003-09-02 Thread Kjell Hansen
Hi Leonie
My approach is to have the empty AccessDB on the server. Make a copy of it
and insert all the tables into the copy and then have it downloaded from the
server. So I'm actually never gonna use Access, it's just the database I'm
using for storage of data.

One way of doing this could be to store the table definitions as
SQL-statements in another table, but I'm not very thrilled about that idea.
