You can already have no symbol for a rule. Just untick the Symbol checkbox
in the rule properties.

Re: [Qgis-developer] "No symbol" renderer... thoughts?

2014-06-30 Thread Régis Haubourg
Hi,
excellent idea if we get speed improvement !
I don't have QGIS running here right now, but I remember having seen a "no
symbol" checkbox in rule based renderer. If we look for consistant UI, we
should have the same checkbox for classical renderers on symbol level. I
remember being puzzled when I discovered that and didn't find it in
classical symbology.
I my experience, users didn't discover displacement point renderer by
themselves, because it's the lowest entry in the listbox. I suspect we can
expect low usage of no symbol renderer if we put it there.
Cheers

Hey everyone,

*Weekly Report 6*

*What was done this week?*

   - Worked on ways to implement the direction/angular constraint. Have to
try more than one approach to see which one is working best for the project.

*What is the plan for next week?*

   - Will continue to try different approaches and test the data on them.
Implementation of this constraint is time consuming. Mainly because of the
need to figure out which approach works best for our specific requirements.

   - Will also review the timeline for the project as there might be need
   to make some changes.

Re: [Qgis-developer] MetaSearch dependencies

2014-06-30 Thread Matthias Kuhn
I am not sure exactly if it's really a dependency problem. I pasted the
warnings here, it mentions MetaSearch, that's why I thought it is
related. But as it is complaining about a missing __init__.py in a
python site-packages directory it might as well be a distribution or
local configuration issue. Maybe somebody with more python experience
can shed some light on this.

[Qgis-developer] CMake error from QGIS 2.4.0 in Windows 7

2014-06-30 Thread korash
Hi, I am trying to compile qgis 2.4.0 in Windows 7 for Visual Studio 10.

I have been trying to set up all the required dependencies with CMake 3.0.
And I have been able to link all the dependencies by using OSGeo4W, even
though there are lots of missing instructions on qgis website for Windows
installation.

But, now I am getting error saying below:

   CMake Error at cmake/FindSIP.cmake:54 (MESSAGE):
 Could not find SIP
Call Stack (most recent call first):
 CMakeLists.txt:569 (FIND_PACKAGE)

I installed SIP from OSGeo4W, but it seems like cmake cannot find the link.
I looked at some archives, some previous posts were saying, in general this
error is coming from when we are missing "python-sip-dev". But, OSGeo4W only
provides "sip" which might mean that "sip" should work. I think the current
sip from OSGeo4W includes python-sip-dev too.

If this is the case, how can I resolve this error issue?

Thanks in advance.

I'd vote for the last option as it'd be compatible with rule based
symbology, which could be useful when coupled with the [x] show layer count
(simple eg creating a ELSE rule with a no-symbol layer to keep track of nb
of features not rendered.).

+1 for a "no symbol" renderer. I also had a use case when styling OSM data.
I guess it should be either the first or the last option on the

[Qgis-developer] "No symbol" renderer... thoughts?

2014-06-30 Thread Nyall Dawson
Hi all,

I find I'm often adding layers to a map solely for labelling, and
having to set the symbology for these layers to a 100% transparent
symbol so that the features themselves aren't shown.

This seems rather hacky and inefficient, since QGIS is still rendering
these feature, they just aren't being shown. Consequently, I'd like to
add a better method for having layers with no visible features.

As far as I can see, there's three possible options for this:
- Add a "no symbols" renderer.
- Allow the first symbol layer to be removed, so that a symbol can
have no layers
- Add "no fill"/"no line"/"no marker" symbol layers

What would be the preferred solution, from a design and UX view? I'm
leaning toward the "no symbols" renderer option myself, but thought
I'd seek feedback before digging into this.

We have (work in progress):
http://qgis.org/en/site/forusers/visualchangelog24.html
where the links points to:
http://changelog.linfiniti.com/qgis/version/2.4.0/

as it is work in progress, we have not brought it upfront...

Tim asked people to write 'items' for the changelog. As that is what it
is: a little application in which people can write an 'item' and add
some screendumps.

The QGIS website get's the feed from that changelog website and
incorporates it in the main website.

To all people wanting to have better "what's new in this version" I
would say: please invest some time in getting to know the way stuff
works and help make it better. We still do not have a marketing
department with people doing that for us :-)

Hi Vincent,
this is a long standing issue (we have been discussing this extensively
since Zuerich HF). I agree that knowing our user base is quite important
for the future of the project.
Of course we should not be obtrusive, and fully respect the privacy of
users, but I think something can be done on this, maybe along the lines
of Debian's popularity contest http://popcon.debian.org/
All the best.
