[RBW] Connecting Toplight Line Plus to SON/Edeluxe

2013-09-21 Thread Patrick Moore
The Edeluxe has no second cable for the rear lamp, as does the Cyo: just
one that runs to the prongs on the hub. The Toplight Line Plus has two
prongs, one for power, one for ground. I suppose I attach the ground to a
wire running to bare metal on the frame, but how do I attach the power wire
to the hub? Do I have to run the wire directly to one of the SON (20R)
prongs?

Thanks.

a pretty rugged climb, but it was a really cool road that I wished I was on
my bike and enjoying instead of semi-lost in the van. Might be worth
further reconnoitering, if you're looking for ideas. :)

 Hey gang,

Let's just get this out of the way. Here're the pictures:

 http://flic.kr/s/aHsjJqAYZK

In preparation for the upcoming Wasco County Country Ramble (v2.0, mind
you), I went exploring my new environs around The Dalles, OR. I ended up
rambling further than I initially intended when I set out this morning (and
really should have taken more water and sunscreen), but in the end I made
 it home safely.

The ride took me out south of town via Dry Hollow and 3-mile Roads, but
even though I was going South it was consistently uphill (sorry,
Treebeard). After 4-5 miles the pavement ends and a wide, gravel road
continues for another 6 or so miles. Dutch Flat road connects to Skyline
Road which leads all the way back into town. Going north on Skyline is
pretty much downhill the entire way and was a nice respite from the long
slog out. Here's the route if you are interested: http://goo.gl/**
 maps/R957B http://goo.gl/maps/R957B

I rode a Koga-Miyata ValleyRunner that is set up with Albatross bars and
Barcons. The Keven's bag was perfect for this ride. The weather was
perfect; not too hot, barely any wind.

I'm not sure if I would recommend this as the actual Wasco County Country
Ramble route. It was a good ride, but basically uphill the entire way out
and downhill back in. I think a more variable route might be a better
option. Also, this ride goes out to the middle of nowhere and back. There
are no services out there or stores to grab food or drink. Smitty and I
will work out a route before the actual Ramble, but if you have any
suggestions please let me know and I can scout them out ahead of time.
Riding out here (especially road riding) really is a hidden treasure.
Hopefully the pictures show a bit of that.

For the ground the Edelux should have come with a ring terminal that can

Glad to hear you're in.

Couple of things, I spoke with Aaron a West side local and he explained
that the climb is rigorous with some technical sections, he said there is a
bail out point if needed. I personally have never ridden this ride but am
game what ever the ride is.. *This is a no rider left behind relaxed lots
of stops for water, snacks, breather, bike geeking and of course photo

approximately 5-6 hours to complete not that that's a bad thing just saying.

Where to meet up? At Peets' on *14th Montana in Santa Monica @ 9 am with
a soft ride out at 9:30 am* . This is street parking so check the signs. We
can always find a parking garage as a last resort.

rocky, steep singletrack scattered with cactuses. 4.96 miles total,
1:15:30, including 1/2 mile circling the parking lot, 45 minutes fixing
flats -- which involved installing Stan's in the new tubes. One flat, the
rear, was a pinch flat on a big rock, the other, front, must have been

Goatheads are not a problem.

[RBW] Re: Barefoot Friendly Pedals

2013-09-21 Thread pam
I have the Grip Kings and ride in Vibram Five Fingers - have for the past 4
years - probably over 10,000 miles. I had the sneaker pedals. I think for
barefoot the sneaker pedals would be slightly better. I've tried riding
barefoot with Grip Kings but need a thin sole to really push down hard on
the pedal - I guess I'm a masher not a spinner. I'll try the sneaker
pedals barefoot and will let you know but the platform is slightly smaller.
I have a small foot so that helps - Womens' Size 6. Hope that helps.

-- I have and love my oak woodie Bullseye Pedals on my Hunga. These are
 perhaps the ideal barefoot pedal.
-- I'm doubtful about the clip less platform pedal set up from Bike Tinker
because of the inherent, albeit slight, rotational play inherent to
 clipless.
-- I live and run mountain trails barefoot or moccasined, so my feet are
well acclimated to rough/uneven surfaces; however, my experience with
pedals tells me that on rides longer than 2-3 hours, the foot gets tender
 from the same pressure points.
-- The pedal to beat (aside from the oak woodies) is the MKS Touring pedal
with rubber blocks. I have a pair with the outer rings filed down a bit.
-- I ride mostly midfoot on the pedal.

-- One thought on possibly worth trying is the Gripster pedals with a
thin Vibram soling (which I have) somehow screwed into the cleat treads
with broad flathead screws. Any suggestions here greatly appreciated.

 Thanks for your input!

 With abandon,
 Patrick

Looked like a hoot Bill. Thanks for sharing. Yeah, today's weather would
have been a different movie, Probably different music too - Singing in the

[RBW] Re: San Diego Bay Ride

2013-09-21 Thread Tom Virgil
Hugh, when you come south so time we will do this ride.

Hello Curtis,

I would love to do this with you. Cannot tomorrow b/c of church
obligations. I think Hugh has some folk down here and visits once in a
while. So if he, Evan, Mike, David, or any of the other SoCal Rivstrs get
down on an ad hoc basis or are available, let's do it. I am in. A
Saturday would be better, though.

I personally think that taking my bike on the ferry over to Coronado and
riding around is an E-ticket. Last time I did it was $8.50 round trip
and worth every penny. I love the 1950s Leave It to Beaver/Donna Reed
facades of the properties and quiet streets. A ride down the silver strand
past the Navy Seal training facility makes you think our tax dollars are
well spent. Last time I rode by a platoon of trainees were holding buckets
of sand at arm's length.

Best regards,

Tom

So much San Diego experience here. The Bay Shore is one of my favorites.

 Hi,

Just in case any SoCal folks are interested:

I will be riding the San Diego Bay Shore Bike Route on Sunday morning
(9/22). Will be at the fountain in Balboa Park at about 8:30 am. The route
is very flat and about 25 miles. Planning on taking the ferry to close the
 loop.

 Ride safe,

 Curtis

[RBW] FS: Slickersack and Platrack Combo

2013-09-21 Thread jason
Hi there,

I purchased the Slickersack from Rivendell as a floor model but never used
it and the Platrack has never been mounted. I had great intentions for
this combo but found that I was well served with my basket so I never
bothered to mount it. Baby is on the way soon so the garage must be
thinned down!

The Slickersack doesn't look like it has been mounted, but has a couple of
marks on it. It's in very good condition and has the dividers and the
strap. The platrack has all of the hardware.

I'm in the bay area and would love to sell it locally, but will happily
ship it. $175 local, $195 shipped CONTUS. It's kind of hard to value
this, so I will also happily accept offers.

Thanks!

[RBW] FS: Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 700x40s and B+M Luxos B headlight

2013-09-21 Thread gordo
Hi all,

The purging continues.

Up for sale:
-One set (2 tires) of brand new in box Marathon Supremes in 700 x 40. $110
including shipping in U.S.

-Brand new in packaging B + M Luxos B dynamo headlight. $140 including
shipping within the U.S.

Not really interested in any trades unless it involves a decent 700c dynamo
front wheel (prefer Schmidt and SP hubs laced to either a touring rim or
something like an Open Pro/Sport). For trades, I am located in SF.

Thanks!
