[Samba] Upgrade
Hi people, I have a working server running beautifully, it does authentication for unix/windows users, and share folders (including home areas) and printers, with no problem, but it is Samba version 2.2.7a on a Solaris 8 machine... So it has to go... I'm planning to upgrade the machine to Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.4, therefore, I have a few questions: 1) How do I transfer all the users with their passwords (if possible) 2) Can I have both servers running (Samba 2.2.7a and Samba 3.0.4) and force the one I want to authenticate against? how? 3) Any special recommendation to compile on Solaris9 ? like mtune/architecture optiones for configure? Thanks a lor in advance!! [Samba] Samba 2.2.7a to Samba 3.0.2a
Hello List, I'm planning a migration from Samba 2.2.7a to 3.0.2a, samba is actually running on Solaris 8.0 on a sun E450. Now, Looking at the smb.conf (the global parameters) what should I take care of? # Global parameters [global] domain logons = yes security = user wins support = yes create mask = 0600 directory mask = 0700 log file = /var/samba/log.%m log level = 1 max log size = 0 interfaces = 10.52.1.1 10.42.1.1 domain master = Yes security mask = 0777 level2oplocks = no encrypt passwords = Yes dont descend = /proc,/dev,/etc,/usr printing = SYSV server string = Samba Server workgroup = hosts allow = 127. 10. 172.16. netbios name = ### socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_KEEPALIVE SO_RCVBUF=16384 SO_SNDBUF=16384 local master = Yes min passwd length = 6 os level = 99 oplocks = no use client driver = yes At the same question, this machine should be a domain controller (PDC?) and the preferable server, Should I take care of this in any manner? Obviously, if you can see any improvement that I could apply on Samba3.0.2a to make it work faster, I'm more than happy to do it :) Cheers!!! Pablo.- --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. [Samba] Cannot print UPDATE
OK, Now I manage to make it print. The only change I made was to disable spoolss. So I added to the smb.conf the following line: disable spoolss = yes I'm not too sure if this is the best option, but the errors went away, and the printers are working again. Nevertheless, I would like to know why using spoolss the printers were not working. Cheers! [Samba] SMB_PAM on Solaris
Hi List, We ar having quite an odd problem. Yesterday we upgrade to Samba 3.0.1, and just reuse the smb.conf. We didn't change anything else, but this morning one of the Solaris workstations couldn't login (we are using smb_pam to authenticate the users). We checked the pam.conf and smb_pam.conf files, and they look ok (just like the ones on the other machines). As a workaroubd the user is authenticating against NIS now, but we would like to have it authenticated against samba for consistecny purposes. Any thoughts? Ideas? TIA! RE: [Samba] Error on SMB Packages
I will update the patches, but this is not what is happening with my server. As mine is not rising on CPU usage. Anyway, thanks a lot, I'll update the server patches level next week... About oplocks, I played with it a little bit, it gave me a small increase in the performance, but these few machines are still having problems. I will increase the samba logging level and check that again looking for something related to the messages using snoop. Thanks a lot, I'll let you know if I find something else. Cheers! [Samba] NFS + Samba
Hello List! OK, here is my enviroment: Many Unix servers, running Solaris 6 and 7, one Solaris 8 with Samba, and many pcs. I'm having a problem with a user that works in both environments, he worked using a unix workstation and the move to use a windows laptops sometimes. The problem is that when he wants to overwrite a file using the pc (trough samba), he receive a message that the file is in use. But he doesn't have the file open. This allways happens when he used the file before in the unix environment (trough NFS). So, there is anyway to force samba to override NFS locks? (I'm asssuming than NFS is locking the file or the filesystem) Thanks. [Samba] Creation Permissions
Dear List, I'm having some problems with the creation permissions for files into one of my directories. This is the conf of the share: [name] Path = /my/path Valid users = (list of users) Public = no Writable = yes Printable = no Create mask = 775 Opclocks = false Level2oplocks = false The Server is running solaris 9 and Samba 2.2.2. The clients are running Windows XP Pro edition. The problem is each time that one of the users create a file/folder it is created with 755 instead of 775. What I'm doing wrong? [Samba] Anybody knows?
What is the meaning of this message in the log files: Smbd/nttrans.c: (1762) Call_nt_transact_ioctl: Currently not implemented Samba Version: 2.2.2 Client Windows XP Professional Any ideas or anything that you can tell me will be really appreciated. [Samba] Slow Response
People, I have a Samba server installed on a Solaris 9 machine. The Samba Server is working as a Domain controller and a file server, both are working, but the response is quite slow. I've been playing with this parameters, but they don't seems to change anything (at least not a wild change): oplocks = True level2oplocks = False socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_KEEPALIVE SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBU F=8192 Log Level log level = 1 read raw = yes write raw = yes max xmit = 65535 dead time = 15 enhanced browsing = yes If I check the logs, the only message that I'm receiving is: [2003/08/18 09:12:16, 0] smbd/nttrans.c:(1762) call_nt_transact_ioctl: Currently not implemented. Could this have something to do with the low performance?
