[tw] Re: "I'd never use something called TiddlyWiki"

2015-05-15 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki

I know how he feels. I'd never buy a device that was an anagram of PAID.

Yeah, names like

*Iron WikiPower PIMWiki Blazer*

would be along the lines of American marketing.

You could take the Asian car-naming practice and pick an English word and
make it sound vaguely Latin:

*Accelada Wiki*

*Wiki Mundo Wikia *

There might have been the Swedish version:

*Wikea*
But that would never catch on because you have to set it up yourself and
there are always pieces missing.

The Microsoft approach would be to take some word commonly used in business
buzz and link it with the product. Like

*Wiki One*

*Info Courier Visual Wiki*

It could be worse. Shareware tends to have the cheesiest titles. That would
make it something like:

*Whacko Wiki*

[tw] Help needed for creating a select box which sets a field name and a field value simultaneously

2015-05-15 Thread Måns
Hi TwWizards

I'm trying to create a select box where I can select a group and title
based on tags. Group should become the field name and the "title" should
become the field value...

I've been trying different approaches - which led to solutions for other
use cases - this last one is still a little to difficult for me.

This* is how far I've got - as you can see I hardcoded the fieldname (wrote
it into the macrocall).
What I really want is to be able to set the "master tag for Group headers"
in the macro call. (In this case it is a tiddler tagged with "groupitem") -
and when I choose a "sub list tiddler title" from that group item (in this
case it is "probability" - then I want the "FieldName" to change so it
becomes the group header title.

[*]
\define sfmsa(GroupItem:"groupitem" FieldName:"probability")
<$select tiddler=<> field='$FieldName$'>
<$list filter='[tag[$GroupItem$]]'>

<$list filter='[all[current]tagging[]]'>
<$view field='title'>

\end

Grouped: <>

The use case is that I want to automatically set the fieldname to which a
field value is written (<>) - as a result of which group a
choosen tiddler (title) belongs to...

I'm not sure that you (or anybody else for that matter ...) - can follow my
thoughts just by looking at the macro text. You might understand it better
if you checkout my playground - it is
the tiddler $:/SelectFieldMacroSemiAdvanced
 which
holds the code.

The attached screenshot shows that I'm able to select a title from another
group than the hardcoded one ("probability")... It would be very nice if
the fielname would change to reflect the group header...:

[tw] Re: My vision of a mobile theme

2015-05-15 Thread Danielo Rodríguez
Hello Mans,
thank you for your kind words. My idea is to release it as a plugin. For me a
mobile theme is not something that you have to select, is something that should
be activated automatically. There are some things that in my opinion should be
done when you switch to mobile, like hidding the sidebar, but I'm not very sure
about how to manage that properly.

Other thing that I think is that, while on mobile, most of elements should be
hidden until you need them, that's why my top bar is so minimal. That is the
part that I dislike the most from Jed's theme:it wastes a lot of necessary
horizontal space. And it does not fit properly on my screen, which is a totally
deal breaker for me.

[tw] Re: My vision of a mobile theme

2015-05-15 Thread Måns
Hi Danielo

This is really nice work :-)
Thank you very much for sharing it!
Looking forward to see it as a stand alone theme.

I was wondering:
Do you know if it's possible to automatically change themes based on screen
size?
If it is not possible - your theme maybe shouldn't be a stand alone theme
and instead be released as a plugin which would work with any theme?!
I guess there might be some "clashes" with other themes - eg. Jeds
MobileMenu in his MobileTheme? - If this is the case a standalone theme of
your's might be a better option..?!

[tw] My vision of a mobile theme

2015-05-15 Thread Danielo Rodríguez
Hello,

Here is my vision of a mobile theme. I have developed this five months ago, and
I did it entirely on my mobile phone(that's why it fits so good). I don't know
why I did not share this before. It is not ready already for distribution, but
I find it very functional. It is only noticeable when you are on mobile unlike
other "mobile" themes,so you can install it on your wiki and it will not
interrupt your normal work flow on desktop.

What I like the most about it is that it uses vertical space, wich you have
plenty on mobile, but leaves the horizontal space, which is a precious treasure
on mobile, all for the tiddlers river.

Check it out here

There are JavaScript APIs in the browser for recording audio but annoyingly
they produce an uncompressed stream (just like a .WAV file), and so are
many times larger than an MP3 file.

 Embedded Audio

Small audio files can be embedded directly within TiddlyWiki
 . Embedding isn't suitable for
large files (over a few hundred kilobytes) because it increases the size
 of
 the TiddlyWiki file.

 For example, the tiddler TiddlyWiki.mp3
  contains an MP3 recording of
the word "TiddlyWiki ". If you
visit that tiddler, you should see an audio player that will play back the
 recording.

but ever the example there of embedding audio fails to actually say how
 to embed audio.

 Thanks.

[tw] Re: What is federation stuff about?

2015-05-15 Thread PMario
Hi Greg,

Your description is right.

The idea is related to Smallest Federated Wiki . ...
IMO the main idea there is, that you can link content from one wiki to an
other, and display the info in one page. The problem with this
implementation is, that it needs server side software.

TiddlyWikis Idea is to work as a single file wiki. ...
The mechanism, that's discussed is similar to the new plugin library.

The mechanism used for the TW plugin library uses Iframes.
Iframes can use a javascript window.postMessage() [1][5] to communicate
with the host page *across domains* [3].

Jeremy talks about the topic in hangout 78 see link [4].

Latest browsers implement some more javascript functions, that let
different tabs ore even different browser windows [2] communicate with each
other. This gives developers a bunch of new and fancy functionalities. ...
but the "same origin policy" [3] applies here for security reasons.

Eg: If you have 2 tabs or even windows with the same tiddlywiki open and
modify one of them. TW could implement a function that notifies the other
windows about the change. .. So they can display a message, that editing
there may overwrite content. In a second step syncing would be possible,
but that's muuuch more work ;)

hope that helps.

I'm not quite following where you've gone wrong. Try these steps:

1. Visit tiddlywiki.com
2. Click the "+" in the sidebar to create a new tiddler
3. Give it the tag $:/tags/EditTemplate
4. Copy the following content into the text field

Tags: <$edit-text field="tags" tag="input" class="tc-edit-texteditor"/>

5. Clink the tick to store the tiddler
6. Edit the tiddler HelloThere
7. Look for the new "tags" field at the bottom of the tiddler
8. Note that you'll need to wrap any tags containing spaces with double
square brackets, [[like this]].

Does that help?

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Re: [tw] Re: What is federation stuff about?

2015-05-15 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Smallest Federated Wiki is a different project, started at about the same
time as TiddlyWiki5. In terms of federation, the main difference is that
SFW has a server-based architecture, while with TiddlyWiki we're exploring
the extent to which we can federate content without dynamic servers.

The other main difference is that TW5 wikitext is richer, permitting custom
interactive user interfaces to be created, not just static content. Indeed,
TW5's entire user interface is rendered in wikitext.

Best wishes

Jeremy
