I have had problems in the past because the Etronix display card doesn't correctly report an EDID. When I tried to boot with my 'normal' nVidia display card in the system on the Natty beta CD burned from a download from Ubuntu.com, everything seemed to operate normally until I got to the desktop display. I just used the defaults, did not try to download proprietary drivers, indeed didn't touch the keyboard after beginning the boot from the CD. At the desktop, the display would show for a second, then go black for a second, cycling endlessly. The only variation was that the display when showing the background of the desktop would sometimes show the Unity menu, sometimes the top bar, sometimes just the background, in no sequence that I could determine, although I left it running for about 30 seconds to see if it would stabilize. USB keyboard and mouse had no effect. I got out by turning off the power. Any further information which I can supply? [Touch-packages] [Bug 734125] Re: Snap-to-side windows cause dash to hide
[Expired for Unity because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: unity Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/734125 Title: Snap-to-side windows cause dash to hide Status in Unity: Expired Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I'm not sure of the correct terminology (or where this bug should be filed) so feel free to update this to make it more understandable. Basically, the problem is that dragging a window (in this case Deja- Dup Restore dialog) to the right-hand side of the workspace in order to snap it to the side of the screen (i.e. the blue box appears and it nicely fits in on the right hand side), causes the dash on the other workspace of the same level to auto-hide needlessly. If you look in the screenshot, you will see on the top right hand workspace the Deja-Dup restore dialog, snapped to the right of the workspace. In the workspace to the left of that is a Firefox window. The dash on that workspace automatically stays in its hidden state even though the firefox window is in the middle well away from it. Moving the Deja-Dup window off the right hand edge causes the Dash to remain open. Does that make sense? What information do you need from me to help debug and fix this? For example, suppose you create two folders in google earth and two paths or polygons inside each folder, if you drag and drop one path or polygon from one folder to the other the unity bar will lose its capacity to be hidden automatically (this happens regularly, not always). When using HEC HMS it is common to lose the menu and buttons to close or minimize or maximize. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1357928] Re: [Studio1747, IDT 92HD73C1X5, playback] volume slider problem - Slide to bottom and sound stays off even when slider moved up again

The 12.04 version had a mute checkbox in addition to the slider. When the slider is moved to the bottom, everything is muted: Master, Headphone, Speaker, PCM. Move the slider up and only Master is unmuted. My computer has three hardware buttons for audio. The mute/unmute mutes but never unmutes. Same issue. Known problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/397819/ubuntu-13-10-and- xfce4-no-sound-at-all With 2012.04 I could just uncheck the mute button and things were back to normal. Now I need to open Audio Mixer and unmute everything. (It also appears I need to unmute the Headphones to hear sounds from the internal speakers.) As someone who works in an environment where I regularly need to mute this behavior is very annoying. 1) The volume sliders should never mute. 2) There should be a mute checkbox. 3) The unmute options should unmute everything which was muted. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1301015] Re: Networking does not restart
This is ridiculous to see this is still an issue. I ran an update on a couple farms (that were staged in a lab). Now my networking scripts that I had *FIXED* are now overwritten... I now have 300+ servers that don't do anything with an init networking script. If this script is an issue, then please leave it out. The community will create their own patches. But more importantly, if this script was disabled purposefully (note the fix below) why was it overwritten by changes that don't do anything? Can someone please post a link to where this decision was made? It's one thing if you want to disable this for desktops. It's an entire other issue for disabling for headless servers. And why is there an init script that does nothing anyway? This makes no sense. An init script that sill exists I assume are "for legacy purposes" that is purposely broken? This is years in reverse to proclaim the OLD way for bouncing the network is now the "documented way." This breaks the motto of Ubuntu : Linux for Humans. For those humans that still want to fix it (if you haven't done it already). Edit the script and go down to the arg switch... Comment out anything like the following... if init_is_upstart; then exit 0 fi Make it like... # Why did you do this? # if init_is_upstart; then # exit 0 # fi -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ifupdown in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301015 Title: Networking does not restart Status in “ifupdown” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In Ubuntu Server 14.04 it appears it is not possible to restart networking. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1353013] Re: Popping/Crackling sound when playing audio in Ubuntu 14.04
I'm having this issue too in xubuntu 14.04.1. It often happens when I'm using Alsa, and it is random, sometimes audio works well but then all of a sudden it gets this repeated popping/crackling sound. Open any app with Gtk-Headerbar (& NOT directly patched by Ubuntu) like gnome-tweak-tool, gnome-system-log 2. enable show-desktop on unity launcher 3. Click on show-desktop first time. it will show desktop. 4. Click on it again, it crashes compiz & sometimes does not recover from it. Users have to fallback to TTY & force restart lightdm. The problem also occurs for any headerbar app from Gnom3 ppa (for example gnome-contacts, baobab, gnome-maps). Attached crash file from /var/crash/compiz. Note: Compiz on other desktop shell/session works relatively well. For example in Gnome-Flashback-Compiz session it doesn't happen. I have gone digging through Debian, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint forums to try and find the "cure" patch for my computer or router and the answer as to why this is happening, and the best answer I could find is that within my system's WiFi Settings, I need to set the BSSID of the hotspot I am current using as the MAC address of the router which that hotspot is transmitting. Upon setting my BSSID to a clone of the Router's MAC address followed by a system restart, I noticed instant improvement when it comes to connection reliability, speed, and time to connect, yet after days of having that MAC as the BSSID, things went back to the usual chaos of an unreliable connection that no other device within the household has encountered, not even Android telephones and tablets that use much of the same underlying Linux code. I performed restarts, updates, more updates, resets, and even more derivatives of Debian or Ubuntu and this is still more of an issue than ever. Via further digging and through a process of trial-and-error, I enabled the "IPv4 is required for this connection" check box along with changing the BSSID to a clone of the router's MAC address in hopes it was a compatibility issue with the "newer" IPv6 Internet Protocol architecture in an attempt to basically 'force' the machine to get that digital handshake with the router in a more 'legacy' mode with IPv4, at least to get some connection. That worked for a bit as well, but didn't hold up just like before. I am now sitting here at my computer, still experiencing this issue on and off, currently having the issue stabilized and stalled at the moment with the "IPv4 is required for this connection" check box on, NO BSSID set, NO cloned MAC address, and NO "Restrict to Device" settings opted-in, hoping this time around this combination of settings will work, but it's a game of trial-and-error for me at this point now, like mentioned before.
