[Touch-packages] [Bug 2075337] Re: [SRU] py3clean fails when using alternate character set
autopkgtest regressions for noble and jammy have been resolved. https://ubuntu-archive-team.ubuntu.com/proposed- migration/noble/update_excuses.html#python3-defaults https://ubuntu-archive-team.ubuntu.com/proposed- migration/jammy/update_excuses.html#python3-defaults -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to dh-python in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2075337 Title: [SRU] py3clean fails when using alternate character set Status in cloud-init package in Ubuntu: New Status in dh-python package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in python3-defaults package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in ubuntu-advantage-tools package in Ubuntu: New Status in cloud-init source package in Jammy: Invalid Status in dh-python source package in Jammy: Invalid Status in python3-defaults source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in ubuntu-advantage-tools source package in Jammy: Invalid Status in cloud-init source package in Noble: Fix Committed Status in dh-python source package in Noble: Invalid Status in python3-defaults source package in Noble: Fix Committed Status in ubuntu-advantage-tools source package in Noble: New Bug description: [ Impact ] With the current version of python3-defaults in jammy and noble, packages which utilize py3compile and py3clean in their maintscripts (which is more or less any package which includes Python modules), and which also are affected by diversions installed by dpkg-divert, will fail to install/upgrade/remove on systems with non-UTF-8 locales, which include non-ASCII characters in their localized dpkg -L messages (and which therefore produce output that is not valid UTF-8). As this has the potential to break apt upgrade, the impact is quite severe (especially if this occurs during a dist-upgrade). However, the scope is probably *fairly* limited given this only affects systems with non-UTF-8 locales (something that has not been the default for many years), and which produce non-ASCII output (e.g. French characters with diacriticals) in their localized messages for dpkg -L. [ Rectification Plan ] Firstly, python3-defaults must be patched in oracular, noble, and jammy. doko has uploaded the fix upstream and synced this to oracular. Benjamin has sponsored the noble and jammy SRUs. Next, affected packages must be patched to include a "Breaks" line on earlier versions of python3-minimal (the python3-defaults binary package containing py3clean and py3compile). Packages which install Python modules are easily selected, but those affected by diversions are (computationally) impossible to select (see comment 18 for details). Thus, determining the set of affected packages was non-trivial, but Benjamin has kindly produced such a list by empirical means (see comment 24). These will be added to the ticket as they are uploaded. This feature works for both deb822 sources and classic sources. [Test plan] For all releases (using the default sources.list format, i.e. adding the PPA using add-apt-repository): 1. Add a weak PPA, ensure its key is refreshed. 2. Add a weak private PPA and ensure that it does not fail the process, then retry with --login, ensure we only see one login request. 3. Ensure non-PPA repositories are notified about as not being refreshable 4. Ensure key files not refreshable via PPA mechanism are notified For 24.04: A. Add a weak PPA as a .list, ensure its key is refreshed. B. Add a superflous key for a deb822 source with Signed-By and observe key file deletion. [Where problems could occur] The new feature could not work in all cases. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2056593] Re: [FFE] FIPS compatibility patches
FFe granted. ** Changed in: openssl (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056593 Title: [FFE] FIPS compatibility patches Status in openssl package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: We have an open MR with a handful of FIPS compatibilty changes we wore hoping to get into 24.04. The main purpose of the changes is to detect whether the kernel is running in FIPS mode and adjust the behavior of the library accordingly by loading the correct provider backend and using defaults that are FIPS compliant (no md5, DES etc) instead trying to use non-compliant code paths and crashing. The proposed patches were taken from the OpenSSL version shipped in the FIPS archive at esm.ubuntu.com for 22.04. Having them in the regular archive will reduce the maintenance work significantly. None of the changes should have any impact on running OpenSSL in regular (non-fips) mode. Below is a detailed list of the changes: - d/p/fips/crypto-Add-kernel-FIPS-mode-detection.patch: This adds a new internal API to determine whether the kernel has been booted in FIPS mode. This can be overridden with the OPENSSL_FORCE_FIPS_MODE environment variable. OPENSSL_FIPS_MODE_SWITCH_PATH can be used to specify an alternative path for the fips_enabled file and is used in tests. The FIPS_MODULE switch can be used to enable build of the the FIPS provider module specific parts which are not needed in the OpenSSL library itself. - d/p/fips/crypto-Automatically-use-the-FIPS-provider-when-the-kerne.patch: This automatically configures all library contexts to use the FIPS provider when the kernel is booted in FIPS mode by: - Setting "fips=yes" as the default property for algorithm fetches - Loading and activating the FIPS provider as the fallback provider. If applications load providers via a configuration either because the default configuration is modified or they override the default configuration, this disables loading of the fallback providers. In this case, the configuration must load the FIPS provider when FIPS mode is enabled, else algorithm fetches will fail Applications can choose to use non-FIPS approved algorithms by specifying the "-fips" or "fips=no" property for algorithm fetches and loading the default provider. - d/p/fips/apps-speed-Omit-unavailable-algorithms-in-FIPS-mode.patch: Omit unavailable algorithms in FIPS mode - d/p/fips/apps-pass-propquery-arg-to-the-libctx-DRBG-fetches.patch The -propquery argument might be used to define a preference for which provider an algorithm is fetched from. Set the query properties for the library context DRBG fetches as well so that they are fetched with the same properties. - d/p/fips/test-Ensure-encoding-runs-with-the-correct-context-during.patch: This test uses 2 library contexts - one context for creating initial test keys, and then another context (or the default context) for running tests. There is an issue that during the encoding tests, the OSSL_ENCODER_CTX is created from the created EVP_PKEYs, which are associated with the library context used to create the keys. This means that encoding tests run with the wrong library context, which always uses the default provider. These changes are now included in a larger MR with other changes in the same package version: https://code.launchpad.net/~adrien-n/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+git/openssl/+merge/462486 The now-superseded MR is at https://code.launchpad.net/~tobhe/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+git/openssl/+merge/460953 Since OpenSSL just received another big update to 3.0.13 we had to rebase our changes and will have to rerun our install/upgrade tests. If we want applications to have this ability, then we need to add support on the parser, which is a feature we are introducing. Bug 1990064 is an example caused by this. 2. userspace support for posix message queue mediation Kernel also has POSIX message queue mediation with commit https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu- kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/kinetic/commit/?h=master- next&id=44f28e2ccee2000c7da971876dd003d38a8232d8 which indicates that if admins want to allow legitimate use of POSIX message queues, then they will need the support of userspace tools. We are also adding a fix for Bug 1990692 which will make the AppArmor profiles for samba to be up to date with upstream. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1946965] Re: python3-defaults: py3versions -i does not list python3.10 when it is installed
man py3versions says: -i, --installed Show the installed supported python3 versions. so this was not a bug in impish, as although python3.10 can be installed, it is not a supported version. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1887372] Re: Cannot create lvm upon IMSM raid array
Both of those patches are present in 2.03.11 which was available in 21.04 and backported to 20.04 (see LP: #1929432). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lvm2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887372 Title: Cannot create lvm upon IMSM raid array Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in lvm2 source package in Focal: Incomplete Status in lvm2 source package in Groovy: Won't Fix Status in lvm2 source package in Hirsute: Incomplete Bug description: The issue has been observed on 2.3.7 (Ubuntu 20.04). Reported to lvm team: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1855251 Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create IMSM raid array: #mdadm -CR imsm -e imsm -n2 /dev/nvme[01]n1 #mdadm -CR vol -l1 -n2 /dev/nvme[01]n1 -z 5G 2. Create lvm volume on raid: # pvcreate -ff -y /dev/md/vol # vgcreate group0 /dev/md/vol # lvcreate -Z y -y -l +100%FREE group0 -n lvm0 Actual results: Vg creation fails. Expected results: LVM should be able to determine the best drive and ignore duplicates. Additional info: IMSM metadata is written at the end of the drive. The first drive sector belongs to the raid volume and other metadata saved there (like lvm) can be recognized directly on raid members. The following patches should fix the issue (not verified yet): https://sourceware.org/git/?p=lvm2.git;a=commit;h=23774f997ea077f2cbe8a32bd8bccdd7f4560cca https://sourceware.org/git/?p=lvm2.git;a=commit;h=00c9a788cc617e5e40746dee2e17287d61ee5c81 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lvm2/+bug/1887372/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
