[Bug 109559] Re: Upgrade of Kubuntu 6.10 to 7.04 (x64) has caused that lighttpd to no longer starts
There is no apache at all.But I tracked problem down and fixed it.Here it comes. I did run lighttpd under custom non-default user I'd created myself. All worked fine, startup script launches lighttpd as root but I pointed out to server to change to restricted user upon startup (in it's config file I used server.username and server.groupname to switch to restricted user). During upgrade, owner and group of (existing and not empty!) lighttpd logs folder (/var/log/lighttpd) were changed for unknown reason to another user (intended to run www server but hey, I already had another user for this purpose!).Once server worked as restricted user and logs folder has been assigned to another owner\group, server was unable to write log file due to lack of permissions and exited due to this fact. So, I have to ask: why updater has to alter owner and group of already existing and non-empty folder during system upgrade?Imho it should be left as is (or at least, you have to change owner after confirmation since this potentially may affect server's operations). Anyway, not a serious issue - those who run servers have to be smart a bit or better do not run servers othervice. -- Upgrade of Kubuntu 6.10 to 7.04 (x64) has caused that lighttpd to no longer starts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109559 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 107870] Re: 7.04 screensaver freezes keyboard and mouse
I am seeing similar behaviour, but I don't have AMD64. Mine started soon after I added applets (weather applet) to the panel. Seems to have gone once I removed the applet. It works here, i installed dhcp3-server and firestarter. In the wizard it is not possible to setup the local network but this can be set in preferences later. [Bug 109847] Sound not working after reinstal to Feisty Fawn
Public bug reported: Using a Toshiba Satellite A105. After being unable to upgrade from Edgy Eft to Feisty Fawn, I just reinstalled the whole OS from a new image. Everything in Feisty works fine except for sound (and out-of-the-box media compatibility, but that's another issue). Sound worked fine in Edgy, but I think losing sound in this update is a fair trade for Ubuntu not forgetting about my USB mouse. Still, I'd like sound back. The volume control on the taskbar just shows an icon with a red cross- out blip over it. Volume Control > Open Volume Control gives a blank window, but the menu options still work. File > Change Device only shows "HDA ATI SB (Alsa mixer)". Edit > Preferences shows a check-box dialog with "Caller ID" and "Off-hook". Volume Control > Preferences doesn't return anything right now, though previously it popped a dialog that said it didn't know and that it was either GStreamer's or the driver's fault. [Bug 104439] Re: starting beryl makes karamba themes dissapear from the desktop
I have a workaround. Make sure that beryl-manager starts before SuperKaramba. In /usr/share/apps/autostart, open beryl-manager.desktop (sudo pico beryl-manager.desktop) Put the following line in beryl-manager.desktop: X-KDE-autostart-phase=0 Then, open Kdesktop.desktop, and add the following line: X-KDE-autostart-after=beryl-manager This ensures that beryl-manager starts before the desktop. This should also take care of the erratic startup of adept-notifier too, since the startup order will now be: beryl-manager Kdesktop panel panel widgets including adept-notifier Now, if SuperKaramba is started either because it's in /$HOME/.kde/Autostart or because it's restarted by the session manager, it should start up well after beryl is up and running, and display as expected. -- starting beryl makes karamba themes dissapear from the desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104439 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109483] Re: Fiesty Fawn screen resolution bug at install
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 3731 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/3731 I installed 7.04 used alt F7 to move the install window so that it is viewable. I then went to find xorg.conf to edit. I couldn't find it anywhere. Not in the X11 folder, not by searching and not when showing hidden files. So I thought I would copy the xorg.conf over from XP, the one I have posted above, but I was stopped:"You are not the owner, so you can't change these permissions". How do I become the owner? There is no obvious way. I used synaptic to install nvidia.glx and that fixed nothing. I started Firefox to get to the Ubuntu Forums but that was an ordeal in itself. Why isn't there a simple link to that forum? It is such an obvious need. I had to follow link after link to finally get there. The ctrl alt F1 left me in a "consul window" and I had no idea how to exit it. So I had to turn off the power to my computer. How does one exit a consul window? I thought Ubuntu used xresprobe? You said above "Unfortunately, a LOT of people run into this particular bug. It's because the installer relies on a tool called xresprobe, which has proven to be quite inadequate." Well whatever is being used, I hope you can fix it. [Bug 74779] Re: Connection with Static IP - does not work!
Trying to use the kubuntu 7.04 cd as a live cd in advance of upgrading, I also cannot get the gui to configure a static ip. Also, there is no easy way to set our 255.255.240.0 netmask , I have to use the 255.255.0.0 and then go back and insert the 240 part . Also, the dns and gateway selections are not saved correctly. Every time you reenter the gui configuration screen, the setting has reverted to dhcp. There is a dhcp server on our network, but it is only to trap rogue computers into a sandbox so they can't easily get to either our servers or the internet, and all legal computers on our network must use a staic configuration. After I apply and exit, the network does not work, I check with ifconfig and see that the IP has reverted to a DHCP address of 192.168.0.25 and the info I entered is gone.
