[Bug 109853] auto-mode file extension regexp too broad

2007-04-24 Thread afoglia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xslide

The default regexp tests for file extensions to launch xslide is "\\.fo"
and "\\.xsl" neither of which perform an end-of-line check. Judging
from the other items on my auto-mode-alist, the standard forms of the
regexps would be either "\\.fo$" and "\\.xsl$" or "\\.fo'" and
"\\.xsl'". I believe the correct file to change is either /etc/emacs
/site-start.d/50xslide.el or /usr/share/doc/xslide/dot_emacs.

(I discovered this while opening files named
.for_.tex. xslide gets activated because of the
".fo" in ".for".)

[Bug 109559] Re: Upgrade of Kubuntu 6.10 to 7.04 (x64) has caused that lighttpd to no longer starts

2007-04-24 Thread PowerUser
There is no apache at all.But I tracked problem down and fixed it.Here
it comes.

I did run lighttpd under custom non-default user I'd created myself. All
worked fine, startup script launches lighttpd as root but I pointed out
to server to change to restricted user upon startup (in it's config file
I used server.username and server.groupname to switch to restricted
user).

During upgrade, owner and group of (existing and not empty!) lighttpd
logs folder (/var/log/lighttpd) were changed for unknown reason to
another user (intended to run www server but hey, I already had another
user for this purpose!).Once server worked as restricted user and logs
folder has been assigned to another owner\group, server was unable to
write log file due to lack of permissions and exited due to this fact.

So, I have to ask: why updater has to alter owner and group of already
existing and non-empty folder during system upgrade?Imho it should be
left as is (or at least, you have to change owner after confirmation
since this potentially may affect server's operations).

Anyway, not a serious issue - those who run servers have to be smart a
bit or better do not run servers othervice.

Well, some days ago I changed the state from Unconfirmed to Confirmed

After stating that the problem occurs exactly on my computer, I tought
that the bug state could be changed to Confirmed, but that change can
only be done by the team.

Sorry again.

Re: [Bug 98911] Re: I keep getting an error with initramfs every time it tries to load a new initrd image

2007-04-24 Thread Daniel Dehennin
Le 4984 Septembre 1993, Nathan Willis a tapoté:
> What to do?

The only workaround I found is to boot on the live CD.
Then mount the root device under /mnt/:

$ sudo bash
# mount /dev/hdXY /mnt

Mount /proc /dev and /sys

# mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc
# mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
# mount --bind /sys /mnt/sys

Chroot to there:
# chroot /mnt

By defaut I do not have bash, which I prefer
# /bin/bash

You must mount everything:
# mount -a

Then install yaird.
# apt-get install yaird

Then create the initramfs with yaird
# yaird -o /boot/initrd.img-

You may delete the old initrd first.

# umount -a

Exit from the chroot, umount /mnt/proc /mnt/dev /mnt/sys /mnt
Reboot.

Hope it will help.

[Bug 48006] Re: dhcp server

2007-04-24 Thread jim
It works here,
i installed dhcp3-server and firestarter.

In the wizard it is not possible to setup the local network but this can be set
in preferences later.
I had a little problem with dhcp too but i reconfigured the dhcp settings in
firestarter (clear the lowest and highest ip fields and fill in the correct
values again) and now it works without having to touch the terminal.

If you can't get dhcp to start, try to start it in the terminal
(/etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart) to see what error it gives.

[Bug 109847] Sound not working after reinstal to Feisty Fawn

2007-04-24 Thread Thomas Keene
Public bug reported:

Using a Toshiba Satellite A105. After being unable to upgrade from Edgy
Eft to Feisty Fawn, I just reinstalled the whole OS from a new image.
Everything in Feisty works fine except for sound (and out-of-the-box
media compatibility, but that's another issue). Sound worked fine in
Edgy, but I think losing sound in this update is a fair trade for Ubuntu
not forgetting about my USB mouse. Still, I'd like sound back.

The volume control on the taskbar just shows an icon with a red cross-
out blip over it. Volume Control > Open Volume Control gives a blank
window, but the menu options still work. File > Change Device only
shows "HDA ATI SB (Alsa mixer)". Edit > Preferences shows a check-box
dialog with "Caller ID" and "Off-hook". Volume Control > Preferences
doesn't return anything right now, though previously it popped a dialog
that said it didn't know and that it was either GStreamer's or the
driver's fault.

More after the jump...

[Bug 106939] Re: (update-desktop-database:12124): core dump

2007-04-24 Thread sp
Hello,
I`ve got the very similar problem, however, another packages are installed
errorneously.
At first, my dpkg didn`t work at all because it couldn`t completely remove
gparted app after initial installation.

Following advice I`ve found somewhere to insert "exit 0;" line into the
"/var/lib/dpkg/info/APPNAME-postrm", I`ve managed to install some stuff
I need.

However, now when I run "apt-get install -f", I`ve got the following
output:

[Bug 90513] Re: weird document recovery attempt of openoffice after fullscreen slideshow with oo presentation

2007-04-24 Thread Brian Rogers
Open Office is indeed crashing. You just don't notice because it
happens after you close the last window. That is also why the
presentation you close isn't listed as a document to recover. You can
tell that OO is crashing because if you have other documents open, their
windows will also disappear, and it will do the document recovery on
them.

I don't have a WLAN chipset. I'm on a desktop machine with a cheap
ethernet card (Intel?) and using the e100 module. My problem arose when
I tried to uninstall and then reinstall vmware. Just wanted to be clear
that there's likely more to this problem than just the wireless issue.
Thanks.

[Bug 104439] Re: starting beryl makes karamba themes dissapear from the desktop

2007-04-24 Thread John Vance
I have a workaround. Make sure that beryl-manager starts before
SuperKaramba.

In /usr/share/apps/autostart, open beryl-manager.desktop (sudo pico
beryl-manager.desktop)

Put the following line in beryl-manager.desktop:

X-KDE-autostart-phase=0

Then, open Kdesktop.desktop, and add the following line:

X-KDE-autostart-after=beryl-manager

This ensures that beryl-manager starts before the desktop. This should also
take care of the erratic startup of adept-notifier too, since the startup order
will now be:
beryl-manager
Kdesktop
panel
panel widgets including adept-notifier

Now, if SuperKaramba is started either because it's in
/$HOME/.kde/Autostart or because it's restarted by the session manager,
it should start up well after beryl is up and running, and display as
expected.

[Bug 109483] Re: Fiesty Fawn screen resolution bug at install

2007-04-24 Thread Chris
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 3731 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/3731

I installed 7.04 used alt F7 to move the install window so that it is
viewable.

I then went to find xorg.conf to edit. I couldn't find it anywhere. Not
in the X11 folder, not by searching and not when showing hidden files.

So I thought I would copy the xorg.conf over from XP, the one I have
posted above, but I was stopped:"You are not the owner, so you can't
change these permissions". How do I become the owner? There is no
obvious way.

I used synaptic to install nvidia.glx and that fixed nothing.

I started Firefox to get to the Ubuntu Forums but that was an ordeal in
itself. Why isn't there a simple link to that forum? It is such an
obvious need. I had to follow link after link to finally get there.

The ctrl alt F1 left me in a "consul window" and I had no idea how to
exit it. So I had to turn off the power to my computer. How does one exit
a consul window?

I thought Ubuntu used xresprobe? You said above "Unfortunately, a LOT of
people run into this particular bug. It's because the installer relies
on a tool called xresprobe, which has proven to be quite inadequate."
Well whatever is being used, I hope you can fix it.

Let me know when you have a working fix for Ubuntu screen resolution to
test and I will test it.

[Bug 74779] Re: Connection with Static IP - does not work!

2007-04-24 Thread obeewaan
Trying to use the kubuntu 7.04 cd as a live cd in advance of upgrading, I also
cannot get the gui to configure a static ip.
Also, there is no easy way to set our 255.255.240.0 netmask , I have to use the
255.255.0.0 and then go back and insert
the 240 part . Also, the dns and gateway selections are not saved correctly.
Every time you reenter the gui configuration
screen, the setting has reverted to dhcp. There is a dhcp server on our
network, but it is only to trap rogue computers
into a sandbox so they can't easily get to either our servers or the internet,
and all legal computers on our network must
use a staic configuration. At this point Feisty is almost unusable on this
network.

Yeah, it only happened when importing the music from my Samba share. It
hasn't happened since. I'll try deleting all of my music from Rhythmbox
and re-importing, just to see what it does. I'll also be upgrading to
7.04 soon, so when I do that I'll try with the new version.

Normally I wouldn't file unless I could repeat it, but it was such an
odd error message... it just said "File a bug." So I filed a bug. Once
I hit OK, I was able to continue using the program.

Weird.

Re: [Bug 109834] Re: 6.10 to 7.04 upgrade will not fetch last 3 files

2007-04-24 Thread John G Miner
I do not understand, I do not know what I added. I do not know why the the
O/S would not upgrade its image based on whatever this is. I do not
understand why this is not a bug?
Can you please explain why the O/S will not upgrade or even what should
happen to make the upgrade happen?

 Thanks, John

[Bug 109845] Epiphany "Download link" always opens destination folder

2007-04-24 Thread Q
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

This is new behavior with Feisty. Edgy did not behave this way.

If you right-click a link in Epiphany and select "Download link", it
will download and the target folder will open automatically when the
download completes. This happens even when the folder is already open.
If the download path is the desktop, no folder is opened. I created a
new user with no existing config files and this behavior still exists.

Steps:
1) Configure epiphany to download to a custom path. Disable the open option
(this does not seem to make any different)
2) Browse to a web site in Epihpany with download links (I was using
attachments from gmail)
3) Right-click the link and select "Download link" from the context menu
--> when the download completes, the target folder is opened

Expected Result:
The target folder never opens

[Bug 58705] Re: I can't use static IP adress in my local network

2007-04-24 Thread obeewaan
On a shiny new kubuntu 7.04, trying to run from cd as a live cd:
Go in system-->administration-->network.
Select wired connection-->proprieties,
I select static ip and enter all the info for ip address and dns and gateway
and apply.
After I apply and exit, the network does not work, I check with ifconfig and
see that the IP has reverted to
a DHCP address of 192.168.0.25 and the info I entered is gone. I re-enter the
gui tool and sure enough,
it is all back to dhcp. If I use ifconfig eth0 x.x.67.242 etc... and route add
commands, I can get the
network to work.
Also, as I am using a netmask/broadcast of 255.255.240.0/x.x.79.255 , I cannot
easily get the gui tool to
accept that. Also the dns settings are lost so I have to do things by ip
address instead of name.
I have used 6.06 and 6.10 on this same network, live from the cd without major
issues, but 7.04 is
broken in this area.
