[Bug 8177] Re: vbetool should subsume ddcprobe, use x86emu

2008-05-06 Thread epeeist04
I had perhaps a similar problem. AMD64 GeForce7300 working fine in
Gutsy broke on upgrade to Hardy. Could only get 640x480 and 800x600
resolutions. Now, before I knew what was wrong I tried many many
things, so perhaps several variables were in play here, but in the end
the way I fixed it was commenting out the "Device" and "Monitor"
sections from my /etc/X11/xorg.conf. They were just dummy sections
anyway:

#Section "Device"
# Identifier "Configured Video Device"
#EndSection

#Section "Monitor"
# Identifier "Configured Monitor"
#EndSection

After I did this, it seems that Hardy looked for the EDID info, found
everything fine and I was on my way. But for some reason, during the
upgrade it may have added those sections (or they got added in my post-
install flailing to fix the problem).

As far as I can tell, the permissions in /var/lib/mysql are correct:

$ ls -ld /var/lib/mysql
drwxr-xr-x 3 mysql mysql 4096 2008-05-07 16:09 /var/lib/mysql

$ ls -ld /mnt/fastdata/var/lib/mysql
drwxr-xr-x 3 mysql mysql 4096 2008-05-07 16:09 /mnt/fastdata/var/lib/mysql

(/var/lib/ is a symlink to /mnt/fastdata/lib)

This seems to be a problem if the directory for mysql data is anywhere
outside /var/lib/mysql : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=782224

I have tried purging and re-installing mysql-server-5.0 to no avail.

Hallo, thanks for responding so fast.
Yes, Ubuntu 8.04 uses still Version 0.7.
What did I exactly
1. install lightning-extension and lightning-extension-locale-de
2. open thunderbird, then lightning, change to the monthly view
3. create an test date, export them via "Kalender"=> "Kalender exportieren"
4. Change Format from .html to "oulook schema (.csv)" and export,
5. check Privat.csv file via "vi" all extrys seems ok
6. delete the test entry in Lightning
7. Close Thunderbird, reopen it, goto Calender, choose import, via
outlook (.csv), choose file, press open
8. the window closes, but absolutly nothing seem to happen, no extrys
imported into Lightning
9. test it under windows XP with latest Thunderbird Version and all
updates for the addons,
 same behaviour as Linux Version
May be that I am doing it the wrong way, but .csv is actually the only
way to stay synchronized with my Smart Phone.

[Bug 192382] Re: alsamixer broken in hardy - intel hda

2008-05-06 Thread Jose Bernardo
That is strange. What I can suggest is that you check the output of dmesg, both
after rebooting and after resetting alsa. Check if there is anything different
when loading the snd-hda-intel module. Also, check if there is a duplicate
module somewhere under /usr/lib/modules. It was simpler before the ubuntu
developers removed slocate in hardy, all you needed to do was "locate
snd-hda-intel", right now you need to do a find or something similar.
Finally, check if there is another "option snd-hda-intel ..." entry either in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base or another file in /etc/modprobe.d - do "grep
snd-hda-intel /etc/modprobe.d" and make sure the only output is the line you
added to alsa-base.

[Bug 215728] Re: [MASTER] Committing to urlclassifier3.sqlite causes excessive CPU usage and disk I/O

2008-05-06 Thread Alexander Sack
urlclassifier2.sqlite is the old filename and is not used anymore.

The schema/filename policy reads like this:

// The database filename is updated when there is an incompatible
// schema change and we expect both implementations to continue
// accessing the same database (such as between stable versions of the
// platform).
#define DATABASE_FILENAME "urlclassifier3.sqlite"

// The implementation version is updated during development when we
// want to change schema, or to recover from updating bugs. When an
// implementation version change is detected, the database is scrapped
// and we start over.

[Bug 225811] Re: kernel: fix x86 DMI checks for PCI quirks

2008-05-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Dropping the 'verification-needed' tag, which is for packages that have
already been accepted into -proposed and are ready to be verified; from
your last comment, I understand that this has only been committed to
git, it's not yet available in -proposed.

I'm also not clear on why a change in the ordering of network interface
detection should be an SRU justification. We use udev to enforce
network device name ordering, so why should changing the order of the
kernel scanning warrant an SRU?

[Bug 196560] Re: [gutsy] X crash (low graphics mode) when logging out and in several times consecutively

2008-05-06 Thread joehill
For me this problem is not fixed. I'm still having this same problem
with a fresh install of Hardy (Gnome, not KDE) on a Dell Intel machine
(Intel graphics). Logging out either once or twice hangs the system
consistently, and I can't access it through keyboard or network and have
to hard reboot. Sometimes Ubuntu fails to boot after I restart and I
have to go into rescue mode. Apparently people are having the same
problem with ATI graphics cards.

[Bug 158129] Re: irc:// links no longer work after update

2008-05-06 Thread Hewus
Bringing up the Launch Application dialog with xchat(-gnome) as an
option is the expected behaviour, but it does not currently have this
option. The bug description suggests this is a regression that occurred
somewhere between Edgy and Gutsy. Launching xchat automatically would
only occur only if you previously selected the checkbox "Remember my
choice for irc links", so this behaviour is not dangerous at all.

[Bug 227612] [NEW] X suddenly stops loading, and crashes

2008-05-06 Thread ejay563
Public bug reported:

Dell Inspiron 2200
Graphics: Mobile Intel 915GM/GML 910 expresss chipset family

For some reason, Ubuntu 8.04 suddenly decided to just drop me off at a
terminal, and when I typed "startx" to try and get a gui, x started up,
then crashed. No apparent reason. Possible it could have had something
to do with updates...

[Bug 224183] Re: BBC news page Video news not showing video

2008-05-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. It be helpful if you gave us an exact url to use so we can try
and recreate this bug report. Additionally, could you please try this
with a new profile?

You can do this by executing 'firefox -ProfileManager' in a terminal.
Please be careful as your are also able to delete profiles including
your existing one. In the profile manager you'll want to click 'Create
Profile...' which will start the 'Create Profile Wizard'. Click 'Next'
and enter a descriptive name for the new profile. Click 'Finish' to have
Firefox create the new profile. You should now be back at the Profile
Manager where you should select the new profile and click 'Start
Firefox'. Please try recreating the bug with this new profile and report
back the results.

You can go back to your original profile by starting Firefox via
'firefox -ProfileManager' again, selecting your own profile and clicking
on 'Start Firefox'.

kernel and is currently available in the following PPA:

https://edge.launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive

If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA
basically do the following:

Create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kernel-ppa.list to include the
following two lines:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Then run the command:

sudo apt-get update

You should then be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel
package. After you've finished testing you can remove the kernel-
ppa.list file and run 'sudo apt-get update' once more to restore your
system. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

[Bug 220801] Re: Ubuntu hangs after connecting with cellphone

2008-05-06 Thread Peter Hildebrandt
Got it, too. The order of events is:

1) Switch on Bluetooth on my Thinkpad X40 --> Bluetooth icon shows up
2) Intiate pairing from my cell phone (BenqSiemens EF81)
3) Confirm the passcode on the laptop
4) The new device shows up in the "trusted" list in the bluetooth preferences
window
and in the very same moment a kernel panic occurs.

This is with Xubuntu 8.04 Hardy on a Thinkpad X40 (1.4Ghz P-M).

Nothing interesting in the logs. The syslog ends:
--

Interestingly everything works fine when I initiate the pairing from the
laptop (tried in Ubuntu 8.04). Unfortunately XFCE does not have an
option to initiate pairing.

I will be happy to contribute further information if needed.

This appears to be the same as Debian bug #478062, which mentions a

Yes, this may be a kernel bug; or it may be a CUPS bug, or a bug in
whatever print server is being written to. More information is still
needed here to ensure the problem is fixed appropriately.

Re: [Bug 225532] [NEW] system-config-printer crashes on an unrecognised locale

2008-05-06 Thread fanen
I used the desktop install cd. I only remember being asked to choose
my location, which is Lagos/Nigeria, and my keyboard layout, which is
US. I am aware that changing my locale at the gdm prompt fixes this,
but i'm not certain what is used to select the default locale though,
because my keyboard suggests en_US while my location suggests en_UK.
Thanks.

[Bug 226226] Re: acces internet reseau

2008-05-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd
be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

PS : Can you please report you bugs in english.

[Bug 108718] Re: Jack does not start with real time scheduling

2008-05-06 Thread Endolith
"All you have to do for this is give your audio group permissions to
access the rtprio, nice, and memlock limits."

Shouldn't this be done by default? This isn't the kind of thing that
Ubuntu users want to mess with.

"For this reason, jackd is compiled with RT support disabled by default
(but can be enabled at runtime via cli parameter)."

What does that mean? If I click the "realtime" checkbox in JACK
Control, it won't work? Because it doesn't. I get the "cannot use
real-time scheduling (FIFO at priority 10)" error. I'm using Hardy.

[Bug 191137] Re: [Hardy] ACPI Embedded Controller (EC) stops boot when kernel boot 'quiet' option is enabled or AC power is connected

2008-05-06 Thread Cristian T
Hi everyone,

I can confirm the exact dame bug in my sony vaio VGN-C240E. This bug
happens when I tried to boot using the 2.6.24-16 or 2.6.24-17 kernels.
However, everything works fine with the 2.6.22-14 kernel. Moreover, when
I am successful in booting wiht the 2.6.24-17 I lose my audio and my
wireless.

[Bug 227606] [NEW] Hardy 8.04 install problem - freeze after login or Ubiquity start (wubi windows installer)

2008-05-06 Thread Thespian
Public bug reported:

8.04 fresh install under windows XP problem

System details and attempted debugging can all be found here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4817281#post4817281

I've tried both installing from the LiveCD and from the windows
installer and the same problem occurs. I've checked the CD image, and
it looks good. The only difference is that installing from the liveCD,
the system hangs on an empty beige screen, and installing from the
windows installer, it hangs on the Heron picture screen after the
initial "install" is complete. In both cases, the initial install seems
to have worked, but when I reboot and select Ubuntu from the boot menu
it fails to finish the install. As mentioned in the above-referenced
thread, I was able to proceed by adding "noapic" and "acpi=off" to the
boot line for the installer, the boot was able to complete.
Unfortunately, then at the login prompt, after entering name and
password, system locks up in exactly the same way as before. The mouse
pointer responds for a second or two after, then nothing. No keyboard,
no mouse, nothing.

I can boot into single user mode. I've tried adding the noapic and
acpi=off options to the boot line, with no effect.

I'm an experienced linux novice, so if someone can tell me which log
files might be useful in debugging, I can check them.

Thanks for any help or insight you can offer.

Thespian

I can repro this with no problem.

DOES:

0) From Main Menu, choose Places / Connect to Server...
1) In Connect to Server dialog, choose Windows Share from Service type droplist
2) Fill in relevant Server, Share, User Name and Domain Name information.
3) Choose Connect

--Observe error message generated: "Can't display location "smb://main/rich/
The specified location is not mounted."
--Observe two mount icons created on the Desktop (or from Nautilus).

4) Restart

--Observe that mount points have been removed.

SHOULD:

--Do as in prior Ubuntu releases: no error message generated; only a
single mount icon created; mount points persist across sessions.

This is a clean install of Hardy Heron.

[Bug 227600] [NEW] "Halo" around windows

2008-05-06 Thread Dave
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When first booting, a "halo" is around all of the windows (see attached
image). It's a gradient, usually in pink, but sometimes in other colors.

If I select another theme and then switch back to the original one under
Appearance, this problem disappears until the next reboot.

Ubuntu 8.04
nVidia 8800GTS using proprietary drivers.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 183840] Re: please build with SSL/TLS enabled

2008-05-06 Thread Jason Costomiris
For those, who like me, come across this report while searching for a
build as requested here, there's a pretty simple solution.

The current shipping freeradius version is 2.0.4, which includes a
debian/ directory, all nicely populated and ready to rock && roll.

You'll need to have build-essential, plus the rest of what's called for
in the debian/control file:

Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 5), dpatch (>= 2), dpkg-dev (>= 1.13.19),
autotools-dev, libtool (>= 1.5), libltdl3-dev, libpam0g-dev,
libmysqlclient15-dev | libmysqlclient-dev, libgdbm-dev, libldap2-dev,
libsasl2-dev, libiodbc2-dev, libkrb5-dev, libperl-dev, libpcap-dev,
python-dev, snmp, libsnmp9-dev | libsnmp-dev, libpq-dev, libssl-dev

But that stuff's all easily remedied with some apt-get action.

>From the top-level source directory, run "debian/rules binary" and wait.
Your packages will be ready in a few minutes. Got me back up & running
in a few minutes with some slight config tweaks from my old 1.1.6 server
that ran on Gutsy. Speaking of which, what gives with the ripping out
the optional functionality in the debian/* files to add tls support on
one's own??

[Bug 227267] Re: package slapd failed to install

2008-05-06 Thread Sven Zeisberg
I'll rather reinstall the whole server since more problems pile up due to my
bewitched kolab trials... I still have the old server running and have so far
just been testing the installation on the new one. exim and postfix packages
somehow got installed in parallel and aptitude can't remove (nor purge) either
of them now ... seems all messed up.
kolab is about to release 2.2 where they (finally) move to more modern
components. I'm very much looking forward to that, but currently, kolab and
hardy seem to have a rather unfriendly relationship...

BUT: thank you for your help anyway!

[Bug 227111] Re: [hardy] ia32 build of java fails to resolve dns names in some cases

2008-05-06 Thread Arkaaito
Me three!

Sorry for this, my initial search failed to turn up your thread:
http://forums.topcoder.com/?module=Thread&threadID=608713&start=0&mc=5#972557

Reproed on Debian x64. Some other details are in the thread - feel free
also to e-mail me if I can be of assistance in pinning the problem down
further.
