[Bug 285815] Re: Backlight keeps getting darker on MacBookPro

2008-12-27 Thread Alex Murray
Seems I needed to adjust the correction_factor gconf key in gnome-power-
manager - in good light, the light sensor would be

cat /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/light
(4,0)

and then covering it with my hand, I'd get

cat /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/light
(0,0)

So it seems to be reading quite low, changing correction_factor to 1 seems
to give some appropriate results... I am a little concerned about the 0 reading
from the right sensor though - is this something specific to the applesmc
driver on MBP 5,1 or is it more indicative of some hardware
fault??

[Bug 178895] Re: Audacity does not mesh with PulseAudio

2008-12-27 Thread Stéphane Graber
Although it's affecting LTSP's users (as we're relying on pulseaudio for
the sound to arrive on the thin client) it's not a LTSP's bug. So I'm
removing the ltsp-cluster bugtask.

Btw, thanks for that fix, it works just perfectly.

2008-12-27 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ltspfs

Please sync ltspfs 0.5.8-1 (main) from Debian experimental (main).

Changelog since current jaunty version 0.5.7-1:

  * new upstream version:
- ensure that the ltspfs authentication token exists in ldm login script,
even when ltspfsd hasn't started yet, so that devices plugged in later
will still be able to mount.

[Bug 311872] [NEW] Ksnapshot creating files without a "." between filename and file extension

2008-12-27 Thread Lee Glidewell
Public bug reported:

Ksnapshot's default behavior is to save files as snapshot[XXX].jpg in
the last directory used. It automatically increments the snapshot number
based on the highest number already present in the directory being used.

On my system, snapshot99.jpg was saved as expected per the above rule. The
following screenshot, and those following, however, omitted the "." between the
number and the file extension, resulting in a filename of:
snapshot100jpg

This is based on an observation, and not extensive testing.

Package specs:

[Bug 49358] Re: the layout ca(multix) is broken

2008-12-27 Thread Paul Anderson
I found this bug report while trying to get ISO_Level5_Shift working for
a Berber/Tuareg keyboard i'm working on, and I think it is the same
problem as I have (on Intrepid).

I have 'right control' set to generate ISO_Level5_Shift, just like the Canadian
multilingual all-in-one layout.
With xev I can see the correct keysym 0xfe11 ISO_Level5_Shift. But pressing
right control with keys does nothing (no level 5 shift), even though I have
defined keysyms for all 8 levels.
I had the same problem on Hardy - the only difference was that the xkb files
all had numbers (like 0xfe11) instead of keysym names.

For the French oss layout there are 2 bugs, 198759 and 208224, where
people have found that right CTRL doesn't seem to do anything when it's
mapped to ISO_Level5_Shift. Their workaround was a hack: to implement a
new LOCAL_EIGHT_LEVEL type. This might be the same problem too.

To access my extra set of letters, I too could use a hack for the moment, based
on the FOUR_LEVEL_PLUS_LOCK used by the German keyboard for capital sharp s.
But it would be cleaner to fix the bug and use a level 5 switch key instead of
Caps Lock.

Possible cause:

ISO_Level3_Shift works perfectly so I configured right control to generate this
instead of ISO_Level5_Shift. It worked fine just like AltGr.
So then I edited compat/level5 to switch or lock the LevelFive modifier
according to an incoming ISO_Level3_Shift keysym. It worked fine - the compat
apparatus saw the ISO_Level3_Shift keysym, made the correct interpretations,
and the level 5 shift happened correctly for the Canadian layout.

Only ISO_Level3_Shift or 0xfe03 is seen by the compat part of xkb, not
ISO_Level3_Lock/Latch, ISO_Level5_*, or several 0x type keysyms
(including old F33 just in case) that I tried putting into compat/level5
to be 'interpret'ed.

Summary:

Some bug seems to be preventing keysyms that look fine on xev from being
interpreted at compat/level5. Levels 5 and up can therefore never be
accessed. Maybe there is a filter for control-like keysyms like meta,
level3_shift etc, and Level5 was never included in it, or maybe a flag
is missing on the keysym.

Can anyone else replicate my findings?

[Bug 311869] [NEW] Add driver for Sentelic Touch pad

2008-12-27 Thread phil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

The touch pad used in the (newer) MSI Wind is made by Sentelic. Sentelic has
released a linux driver and configuration utility under GPL. It is available
at http://sourceforge.net/projects/fsp-lnxdrv/. Some of the instructions
included in the tar file seem to indicate this touch pad made be used in the
Acer Aspire One as well.
The supplied kernel code consists of a patch to the kernel ps/2 mouse driver
to recognize the touch pad and a module to communicate with the touch pad.

[Bug 311867] [NEW] X crashes when loading the radeon driver on Jaunty

2008-12-27 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

On jaunty, after upgrading from git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu5 to
git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu6 X stopped working.
Starting it produces the attached stdout and Xorg.log file.

The summary being:
X: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//radeon_drv.so: undefined
symbol: exaDriverAlloc

That happens with either no xorg.conf, with an xorg.conf forcing
AccelMethod to XAA or an xorg.conf forcing AccelMethod to EXA. Before
the upgrade all these three cases were working fine.

lspci output:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc M76 [Radeon
Mobility HD 2600 Series] [1002:9581]

This bug makes anyone with similar hardware and running a recent Jaunty to get
no X starting after install or update.
This system was installed just after UDS with the first installable Alpha-2
candidate and updated since then.

[Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

I can confirm that commenting out lines 341-344 of the /usr/bin/compiz script
has completely resolved my rendering issues. I haven't experienced any problems
since making the change. Thanks to those that suggested it.

Just to clarify, these lines in /usr/bin/compiz enable the loose-binding option
for all nvidia cards. Commenting out just causes compiz to run without the
loose-binding option (which I never found worked very well in previous versions
anyway). Here are the lines in their commented-out form:

#   if check_nvidia; then
#   if [ "x$INDIRECT" != "xyes" ]; then
# COMPIZ_OPTIONS="$COMPIZ_OPTIONS --loose-binding"
# fi

I just found out about Bug#84900 and various related or similar bug

And there is a link to the "MainInclusionReportJACK"

If I' right, the only problem here is one build dependency for JACK that is
optional anyways:

What I don't understand is that this is still unresolved in Intrepid. The
problems with Jack/Alsa/Pulseaudio interfering seem rather widespread.

If I try to start audacity in the terminal, the follow message appears:

audacity: src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c:764: BuildDeviceList: Assertion
`snd_config' failed.
Aborted

I try to remove audacity, and then install it again, then it works again.
But next time after reboot, it cannot work again, and the same message appears.

The message said something about alsa, but I am using oss, as my sound
blaster XFi cannot work in alsa. Is it something due to the oss?

Thank you very much.

I know this question comes a bit late, but du you know why Jack is not
acceptable for "main"?

What is Ubuntu's current policy for this, is the user supposed to route all
audio through PulseAudio instead?
(I don't find pulseaudio-module-jack in Ubuntu, though)

2008-12-27 Thread Matt Arnold
changelog entries

azureus (3.1.1.0-3.1ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes: LP: #311858
- Automatic interface type selection
- Refer to Vuze in desktop file
- Multiuser patch
  * Drop vuze to Suggests we no longer need it at Recomends

azureus (3.1.1.0-3.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Tentative NMU.
  * Build with openjdk-6-jdk by default (but allow for user rebuilds
using any JDK), and remove azureus-gcj altogether (Closes: #495514).
  * Add a lintian override to signify that java and ant are indeed needed
as Build-Depends-Indep even though we do not build any arch-dependent
binary packages.
   * In /usr/bin/azureus, enforce use of the JRE specified in Depends:.

[Bug 311861] [NEW] blueproximity compatibility issue with nm-applet wireless connections

2008-12-27 Thread lukeytee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: blueproximity

*problem* (reproduction below)
When blueproximity cannot detect its paired device, nm-applet is unable to
connect to wireless internet.

*background*
I recently purchased a wireless access point for my router and installed it as
normal and it connected flawlessly with my ubuntu intrepid system. The next day
I logged into my computer to find that it would no longer connect, and would
repeatedly ask me for my WPA password only to fail at connecting again.
Assuming it was a problem with a recent update, I searched through my synaptic
history and many bug reports without any success. Then, after bringing my phone
over to my computer to see if it could connect, the computer miraculously fixed
itself.

*in short* - to reproduce this problem:
Turn off blueproximity's paired device and restart system. nm-applet will then
be unable to connect to any wireless connections until: (a) the blueproximity
paired device is switched on again, or (b) blueproximity is deactivated.

The issue may be with my particular driver set, as I have not checked
any other computers to confirm, but this is the bug I experienced. I
also have not tested whether this affects the wireless in general, or
just the ability for nm-applet to connect. Also, as a side factor, I
noticed small glitches in the wireless signal when my phone began to be
out of range, but I can't confirm whether this is the same issue as not
being able to connect, although I imagine it would be related.

To fix the problem, I've just disabled blueproximity for the moment

[Bug 258743] Re: NM 0.7 Fails To Set Custom MTU

2008-12-27 Thread nullack
This is most certainly still a defect. On Jaunty on revision:

null...@ppp:~$ sudo apt-cache policy network-manager
network-manager:
  Installed: 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

My test steps are:

1. Change automatic default mtu field population to 1492
2. Confirm the custom mtu is set
3. Reboot system

The result is always that the MTU has not retained the user preference
and has reverted back to an automatic MTU value.

[Bug 311859] [NEW] Please Upgrade FlightGear

2008-12-27 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flightgear

Please upgrade FlightGear to the current upstream revision, being 1.9.
Also note a new version of world scenery is available. The upstream
changelog doesnt appear to be available, but I did find:

December 21, 2008 - FlightGear v1.9.0 released.
Version 1.9.0 is now available for download.
An updated set of aircraft are also available on the aircraft downloads page.
(Requires SimGear-1.9.0 if compiling from source.)

October 27, 2008 - World Scenery v1.0.1 released.
The World Scenery is made in preparation for the FlightGear 1.9.0 release, but
from a technical point is should also work with the previous v1.0 version of
FlightGear

In addition to the bugfix the release contains some very fine bits of
custom scenery work, namely:

* 6 Caribbean islands plus Helgoland (John Holden, Christian Schmitt)
* Revised ParisV2 scenario from
http://helijah.free.fr/flightgear/scenery/ParisV2/ParisV2.htm (cleanup and
import by Jon Stockill)
* Taxiway signs at 6 airfields: KSFO, KBWI, KLVK, KRHV, TFFF, TJSJ
* Major progress in crowding the Scenery with 3D models - by Alexis Bory,
Gijs de Rooy, Alex Park, Christian Schmitt, Hugo Devon , Paolo Savini just
to name a few of the many involved contributors;

[Bug 284982] Re: Bluetooth does not work at Acer Aspire 7520

2008-12-27 Thread mbonci
Hi José,

I just gave it up and downgraded to kernel 2.6.24 manually, now it all
works fine. Works perfect, but it's definitely not a good solution.

After all, it doesn't seem to be exactly about Intrepid, but actually
about the kernel itself (as nkri has already pointed out). So how do we
make sure this problem won't pass unnoticed by kernel developers?
