[Bug 131580] Re: ltsp-build-client restart X server of the host

2009-01-17 Thread Stéphane Graber
This bug was marked Incomplete for a long time now, nobody confirmed it either.
I wasn't able to reproduce it during my test installations, X was also changed
quite a lot since Feisty (based on the time of the bug report) so I think it's
fair to assume that the bug disappeared (as Intel video card are pretty common).

Marking the bug fix released.

dammit. Not sure why it was really necessary to actually delete the
folder from the repos though, rather than just not updating it - makes
maintenance much harder. Oh well, will have to upgrade. sigh. That
failed last time I tried.

[Bug 294454] Re: xvfb on server gives multiple errors

2009-01-17 Thread ais77
Bug update
[*** copy-paste from previous posts - presonally for Bryce Harrington ***]

Binary package hint: xvfb

Xvfb installed from official repo on Hardy server gives multiple errors on
startup
[*** THIS IS the main issue to work on - notice for Bryce Harrington ***].

Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 (server)
Release:8.04

EXACT steps to reproduce the issue:
[*** notice for Bryce Harrington - how to install and run xvfb on Intrepid
server ***]

1. Install Ubuntu 8.04.1 (server)
2. Update and upgrade system
~$ apt-get update
~$ apt-get upgrade
3. Install xvfb
~$ apt-get install xvfb
4. run xvfb (as either one of follows)
~$ Xvfb :0
or
/usr/bin/X11/Xvfb :10.10 -screen 10 800x600x16 -ac -br -kb -c -fbdir /var/tmp/ &
5. run ANY application wich uses (X) xvfb, i.e.:
~$ wine notepad

Outpun in stdout:

[*** First 3 lines are unexplanable to me, the most of others are
related to fonts (why don't they install during package installation if
package requres them?) and the very lst one - looks very strange:***]

:~$ Xvfb :0

Those errors appear every time any application connects to Xvfb service.
After Xvfb shutdown also every time appears another error:

FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1;
fixing.

SUMMARY:
It seems that xvfb package assumes to be installed on desktop (X-server
enabled) Ubuntu version only.
Question to mantainers - are all needed packages and paths doublecheked to be
relevant for server version too?

LOG FILES:
[*** Highlight notice for Bryce Harrington ***]

On clean installed (as mentioned) system there is no /var/log/Xorg.0.log,
neither /var/log/Xorg.0.log files at all.
Output of confirmation commands is listed below:

~$ ls /var/log
apparmor debug installer mail.warn unattended-upgrades
apt dist-upgrade kern.log messages user.log
aptitude dmesg landscape news vsftpd.log
auth.log dmesg.0 lastlog pycentral.log wtmp

ConsoleKit faillog mail.info syslog.0
daemon.log fsck mail.log udev

~$ ls /etc/X11

Requested lspci -vvnn output was also attached in previuos post.

Nothing else was requsted.

[Bug 318362] [NEW] Please sync antlr 2.7.7-10 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Please sync antlr 2.7.7-10 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Debian has changed the dependency of cantlr from antlr-gcj to
libantlr-java-gcj (which was the only ubuntu change) so the package can
be synced.

Changelog since current jaunty version 2.7.7-9ubuntu1:

antlr (2.7.7-10) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Torsten Werner ]
  * Add myself to Uploaders.
  * Convert changes to Charscanner.hpp to a patch file and improve this patch
for gcc 4.4 thanks to Martin Michlmayr. (Closes: #505366)

  [ Jan Dittberner ]
  * Fix watch file. (Closes: #511862)
  * Create a separate package python-antlr. (Closes: #511306)
  * Add missing build-dependency java-gcj-compat-dev. (Closes: #511849)

  [ Asheesh Laroia ]
  * Fixed cantlr package to depend on libantlr-java-gcj rather than
nonexistent antlr-gcj (finishing migration started in 2.7.7-8).

[Bug 315542] Re: X hangs on ubuntu 8.1 intrepid laptop

2009-01-17 Thread C Snover
I just experienced this issue on a Q45 running Intrepid. Xorg locked up
just after receiving a message in Pidgin, before the message displayed.
Got a bunch of

[mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

in Xorg.0.log. Eventually the mieqEnequeue messages stopped and it just
spun with EQ overflowing. Killing Xorg turned it into a zombie process.
I had to log in using SSH and reboot the machine that way. The video was
locked up, and graphics corruption occurred during the shutdown process.
lspci -vvnn and Xorg.0.log to follow...

[Bug 318358] [NEW] Audio does not work for some wmv files

2009-01-17 Thread James Javurek-Humig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Looking at the properties for the file, the following information is
given:

Video
Codec: Microsoft Windows Media 9
Framerate: 8 frames per second

Audio
Codec: Windows Media Audio Speech

Properties also claims that no audio channels are present, however I
have played the file in Windows Media Player (Grudgingly) and it
definitely had audio.

This is a problem on several files from the same publisher (New Mexico
State University, but the download site is password protected and I
would have to get permission to post somewhere else). Some files from
the same site work great. Properties of the files that do work show
audio as being "WMA Version 8"

Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu 8.10
- the Intrepid Ibex

Package Version (Totem): Totem Movie Player 2.24.3

I cannot attach the file due to ownership issues, my apologies.

[Bug 221595] Re: keyboard shortcuts don't match with functions in Impress

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Cheney
Can someone who sees this problem try out the official OpenOffice.org
version from their site and see if it has the same problem for you? If
it does please let me know and also file a bug report at:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/query.cgi

And report the bug number to this bug.

Thanks,

[Bug 318357] [NEW] package manpages 2.77-1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/man/man7/hostname.7.gz', which is also in package bind

2009-01-17 Thread cygnl7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: manpages

no longer update. The summary says it all: package manpages 2.77-1

dmbr...@sam:/rshare/home/dmbrown$ dpkg -L bind | grep hostname

Sure enough, it's there. And for the new manpages:

dmbr...@sam:/rshare/home/dmbrown$ dpkg --contents

-rw-r--r-- root/root 2152 2008-06-25 09:33

[Bug 267371] Re: Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Cheney
Matt,

Do you still have this problem after updating to the newest linux kernel
in Ubuntu 8.10? It claims to have fixed the problem that MichaelE
referred to earlier in the bug report.

Thanks,

2009-01-17 Thread Alex Forencich
Public bug reported:

I'm using grub2, so there seems to be an incompatibility with the kernel
uninstall script that means I need to switch back to grub 1 whenever I
need to remove an old kernel. Also, the reason I needed to uninstall
the old kernel was because the update-grub script was building the
grub.cfg kernel list in the wrong order and loading on the of the older
kernels by default.

[Bug 313724] Re: hibernate doesn't work

2009-01-17 Thread Ilya
I also have exactly the same bug in Intrepid amd64 when using swapfile
instead of swap partition.

Unfortunately, swap file is the only option to use on a tripple-boot
MacBook/Pro (Ubuntu, Mac OSX, WinXP). Long story short, individual
limitations of GRUB, Mac OSX, WinXP and EFI conspire against using any
extended partitions, limiting to 4 MBR partitions, one of which is taken
by GUID/GPT/EFI partition. That leaves no swap partition. I hope use
case on MacBook/MacBookPro will raise priority of the bug.

Just my 2 cents: It looks like the disk is removed before the memory
image has been written. It smells like a race condition. Perhaps,
somewhere in the kernel/PM code there is a check for not removing or
postponing removal of a swap partition, but for partition with swap file
there is no such check.

Ubuntu is not alone here - cross to Red Hat Bug #466408
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=466408). Should it be sent
upstream?

I have now confirmed, to my satisfaction, that it has equivalent

[Bug 315031] Re: usb memory stck ubuntu install will now not recognise usb memory sticks

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Crisafulli
Thank you for your bug report. To maintain a respectful atmosphere, please
follow the code of conduct - http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct/ . Bug
reports are handled by humans, the majority of whom are volunteers, so please
bear this in mind. This is said in direct reference to:
d) why can't ubuntu get anything right! nothing ever seems to work, you get 99%
there and then there is always a glitch of some sort. and when help is offered
it is usually given in 100 lines of code that old fashioned windows users
simply don't understand.

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the
support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it
would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support
tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain.

[Bug 315882] Re: [Jaunty] synaptics fdi file does not contain entry for touchpads know as "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" starting with 2.6.28 series kernels

2009-01-17 Thread Daniel Miles
As I understand it from this -
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC/HowTo/ElantechTouchpad#head-
a037b0abce86c15b70f9936931c0f97310f29fac - it's all fixed fine in a
newer version of the synaptics driver, 0.99.1 and above. There's a
package available for debian here (http://alioth.debian.org/~dsalt-
guest/eee/), but it will not install on Jaunty.

So I guess this bug should, more accurately, be that we need to update
the synaptics driver.

[Bug 230732] Re: Open Office Calc BUSCARV problem (2.4 - Spanish version)

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Cheney
Do you still have this problem with the new version of OOo in the ppa at
https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive ?

If I understand what it should be displaying at least for the second
file eg C2 = aceituno_Y and D2 = Y_aceituno which is what it shows for
me...

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

[Bug 316515] Re: Closing laptop lid partially changes GNOME theme settings

2009-01-17 Thread Marc A. Donges
I have added screenshots for different themes. *-good shows the actual
theme, *-broken shows the desktop after one cycle of closing and opening
the lid.

I have now made the observation that the theme change happens when
opening the lid, not when closing the lid.

[Bug 317370] Re: A program shouldn't get the focus if the focus has been changed between the start and the ready state of the program

2009-01-17 Thread datakid
Well, that's one opinion. I think it's a matter of perspective.

I think the fact that it's an issue, but the only way to solve it is to
write code...makes it a bug. To me this kind of functionality should be
configurable. It doesn't seem to be. Therefore, bug.

[Bug 175191] Re: f-spot changes timestamp in an incorrect way

2009-01-17 Thread bobodod
Is anything being done about this? F-Spot is touted as a major feature of
Ubuntu:
http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/810features/photos/

but this bug ruins date and time data attached to imported photos, and
for good. It makes F-Spot completely unusable for me since I want this
information intact. I imagine there are few, if any, people who feel
differently. It seems as though this should be considered of High
importance at the Gnome bug-list, yet there's been no activity at all.
That is, as far as I can tell. I see the "attachments" at the bottom of
the Gnome Bugzilla page but don't know what to make of them.

It looks like the first step is to elevate the Priority and Severity of the bug:
http://live.gnome.org/Bugsquad/TriageGuide#head-a30bd0d8437bffda426b7aba01a1f9ac32acb0c5

Is that right?

Or perhaps it would be better to drop into the #bugs IRC channel to see if I
can generate some discussion on this topic:
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/bugsquad/

Anyway, if there's any way I can help please let me know. I have no
programming training, but don't mind learning.

[Bug 303011] Re: [i945] 2.5.1 driver poor performance

KERNEL=="card[0-9]*",   MODE="0666", NAME="dri/%k"

[Bug 318228] Re: [jaunty] Graphic Glitch during boot up

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Crisafulli
Thanks for reporting this in efforst to try and help improve Ubuntu! Jaunty
uses a new version of xorg 1.6. On the download page for all of the alpha's
there are warnings about driver issues and bugs, so it's practically expected.
>From the mainpage for Alpha 2: "The latest X.Org server, version 1.6, is
