[Bug 386867] Re: package mysql-server-5.0 5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-06-15 Thread slick911
Umm, I'm really trying to help here. Note that my patience is running thin, and
I don't appreciate the patronizing tone.
Here is what I've done to disable AppArmor on my system:
sudo invoke-rc.d apparmor stop
sudo update-rc.d -f apparmor remove
After this, everything on my system works smoothly, including mysql. I don't
need apparmor, so there is no point in trying to configure it, or to put it in
complain mode, or whatever. I own this machine, therefore I and only I decide
what can run on it and what can't. I decided to get rid of AppArmor.
I do not want to disable any profile. I simply choose to not run AppArmor at
all.

The repro steps are pretty simple. Once AppArmor is disabled (as per above),
every update that wants to restart mysql fails, because it also starts AppArmor
before that.
Since AppArmor has never been configured on this machine, you can imagine that
the defaults will break a lot of stuff.
I asked that the update leave AppArmor alone, if it's stopped or disabled. It
shouldn't be a big deal. It's not a problem for me anymore, since I removed the
apparmor script from /etc/init.d, but perhaps it will help other people.
This is about all the info I can provide. Thanks for your patience and help.

[Bug 208552] Re: Poor performance in smbclient while transmitting

2009-06-15 Thread Thierry Carrez
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 46081 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/46081

iinomine:
I think there are several separate issues here. Niclas original issue is a
RTL81xx/Samba specific issue, duplicate of bug 46081, also mentionned here:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4889

Your issue is about bad performance of Samba in general compared to a
Windows client. If you want to track that, please open a new bug and
post your interesting benchmarking results there, so that we can rule
out the hardy/RTL81xx/CIFS usual suspects and make sure the discussion
isn't polluted by those. Btw, do you get bad performance using smbclient
? using kernel-based CIFS mounts ? Any regression from when SMBFS was
used instead of CIFS ?

[Bug 222734] Re: Samba usershares in lower-case

2009-06-15 Thread Thierry Carrez
This is apparently done by design (sharename = strdup_lower(argv[0]) in
net_usershare.c), so we cannot change it on our side without introducing a
behavior change with upstream. I'd suggest to bring this up on Samba bugzilla
if you want to convince them to change how this tool should behave ?

[Bug 364531] Re: Unable to migrate Intrepid slapd.conf configuration to Jaunty

2009-06-15 Thread Martin Eriksson
I have this (or similar problem)

I had to migrate slapd.conf to slapd.d. But upgrade still fails, similar
to above (Salik Rafiq). Sorry fot lack of detail, but it is a
production server in a virual environment. I have to rollback snapshot
first sign of trouble.

I can try and perform this upgrade again to add some additional details
for this comment. What logs do you guys need?

Note: I'm running gosa/samba on this server, schemas for this is
included in ldap setup. Could it be some of those that breaks upgrade?
(I had to change name of the gosa+samba3.schema to perform slapd.conf
migration)

[Bug 252686] Re: Reload action on init script kills daemon

2009-06-15 Thread Thierry Carrez
SRU Report for freeradius

Bug Impact: calling the reload init script action for freeradius
results in killing the daemon.

Affected supported releases: hardy. The bug in LSB has been introduced
between gutsy and hardy.

Development branch fix: LSB has been fixed in intrepid so that killproc
correctly transmits signals.

Minimal patch: see attached

TEST CASE:
$ sudo apt-get install freeradius
[...]
$ pidof freeradius
5124
$ sudo /etc/init.d/freeradius reload
 * Reloading configuration files for FreeRADIUS daemon...
$ pidof freeradius
$
Freeradius should be running after the reload.

Regression potential discussion:
This update only impacts the reload action of the freeradius init script, which
is currently completely broken.

[Bug 383710] Re: GSSAPIAuthentication enabled by default contrary to /etc/ssh/ssh_config implication

2009-06-15 Thread Titi Ala'ilima
I figured out the problem. At the bottom of the default config it has:
GSSAPIAuthentication yes
so it overrides the default value. This should be with the commented default
so that it is clear that it is being overridden.

[Bug 345957] Re: iscsid is looking for targets prior to network being available

2009-06-15 Thread theterran
As of 2009.06.15 the issue remains in intrepid (2.6.28-11-server).
Moving S25open-iscsi to S50open-iscsi does not resolve the issue.

As a temporary workaround, I have added the following to /etc/rc.local
so that iSCSI volumes/devices configured with the _netdev option in
/etc/fstab are mounted after boot:

mount -a -O _netdev

Granted, the _netdev option is not currently effective during normal
boot, but this does allow the (re-)mounting of only those devices.

I have also found it helpful at this point to change the restart and
shutdown order so that iSCSI targets are logged off prior to stopping
networking, as follows:

$ sudo mv /etc/rc0.d/S41open-iscsi /etc/rc0.d/S32open-iscsi
$ sudo mv /etc/rc6.d/S41open-iscsi /etc/rc6.d/S32open-iscsi

2009-06-15 Thread Mathias Gug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. According to the upstream bug, a fix for this has been
pushed in 5.0.62. However, I am closing it because the bug has been
fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Karmic Koala.

If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do

developer's attention.

[Bug 359309] Re: mysql client package has broken SSL support

2009-06-15 Thread Bryan Jacobs
That upstream bug looks likely to be the cause. I don't use client
certificates. But regardless of the source of the error, shouldn't
Ubuntu build its package in a way that works rather than one that
doesn't? OpenSSL is already installed on the stock system (even openssh
relies on libssl) - does YaSSL provide some compelling advantage? What
rationale was there for building MySQL against an alternative library?
I doubt that whoever made that decision reasoned it through; if they
had, they would probably have tested the most common use case for SSL
connections and made sure the two libraries could be interchanged.

I think the right solution here is to switch MySQL to build against
OpenSSL rather than yassl, in the absence of an upstream recommendation
or a solid rationale for making the opposite decision.

rationale was there for building MySQL against an alternative library?

There are some licensing incompatibilities between openssl and GPL

See http://www.gnome.org/~markmc/openssl-and-the-gpl.html for an

If you could describe a test case so that the bug can easily be
reproduced it would be very helpful to get this issue sorted out.

[Bug 387576] [NEW] Cannot use LDAP accounts on armel build; has incorrect symlink or /lib/nss_ldap.so incorrectly supplied

2009-06-15 Thread Jka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libnss-ldap

This is a report and manual work around:

Installed info:
Jaunty on an NSLU2 ARM
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
2.6.28-11-ixp4xx armv5tel

Package:
ii libnss-ldap 261-2.1ubuntu1NSS
module for using LDAP as a naming service

Looks like the build for the armel (NSLU2 specifically) provides an incomplete
symlink'd or unfinished build which doesn't allow LDAP user accounts to operate
locally. A Ubuntu Jaunty i686 client with libnss_ldap installed and configured
to use the NSLU2 servers works ok, but other remote NSLU2 don't.

All 'getent passwd' operation executed on NSLU2 (local or remote) only
list local accounts. Jaunty i686 to NSLU2 'getent passwd' works.

Found on NSLU2 that a library symlink in /usr/lib/libnss_ldap.so
referenced a non-existant /lib/libnss_ldap.so.2

lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2008-11-19 08:32 ./usr/lib/libnss_ldap.so -
/lib/libnss_ldap.so.2
r...@j-slug00:/lib# find /lib/*nss*ldap* -ls
3827760 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jun 12 15:54
/lib/nss_ldap.so - nss_ldap.so.1
382775 80 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root76028 Nov 19 2008
/lib/nss_ldap.so.1
r...@j-slug00:/lib#

There exists a file called /lib/nss_ldap.so.1, compared the entry
points with a Jaunty i686 build libnss_ldap.so.2 and they match.

Manual installed workaround solution:

  Create a symlink for libnss_ldap.so.2 - nss_ldap.so.1 in /lib

r...@j-slug00:/ # getent passwd | grep john
r...@j-slug00:/ # cd /lib
r...@j-slug00:/lib#
r...@j-slug00:/lib# ln -s nss_ldap.so libnss_ldap.so.2
r...@j-slug00:/lib# getent passwd | grep john
john:x:1000:1:John Doe:/home/john:/bin/bash
r...@j-slug00:/lib#

Build logfile for ARM shows the build kit problem:

drwxr-xr-x root/root 0 2008-11-19 08:32 ./lib/
-rw-r--r-- root/root 76028 2008-11-19 08:31 ./lib/nss_ldap.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2008-11-19 08:32 ./usr/lib/libnss_ldap.so -
/lib/libnss_ldap.so.2
lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2008-11-19 08:32 ./lib/nss_ldap.so -
nss_ldap.so.1

Re: [Bug 373513] Re: mysql fails to install

2009-06-15 Thread bettlebrox
Problem solved!

I'd moved /var/lib to /home/var/lib (to save space) and made /var/lib a
symbolic link to that directory. This must have caused a problem with
apparmor, as per the line below:

Jun 15 19:19:02 micks-t400 kernel: [29451.814871] type=1503
audit(1245107942.002:30): operation=inode_create requested_mask=a::
denied_mask=a:: fsuid=0 name=/home/var/lib/mysql/micks-t400.lower-test
pid=1895 profile=/usr/sbin/mysqld

Copying /home/var/lib back to /var/lib (after removing the symbolic link)
fixed the problem, and mysql installed successfully.

[Bug 387171] [NEW] dkim-filter fails to work if it cannot open a TCP connection to nameserver port DNS

2009-06-15 Thread Emilio Lucena
Public bug reported:

I noticed that when running ubuntu 8.04 Server edition, dkim-filter will
work properly if it can not open a TCP connection to the nameserver port
DNS. So if, for some reason, your namserver only responds to DNS UDP,
you will get an

can't configure DKIM library; continuing

error message. And after that, you will always get an error like:

can't read SMFIC_EOH reply packet header

Maybe dkim-filter should not try to open TCP connection to the
nameserver. Instead it should make its queries via UDP.

  * New upstream release
  * debian/patches/14-SPQR_Include_spqr_hpp.dpatch: Removed patch (applied
upstream)

  * Split the libraries into individual packages
+ The new binary packages are (the soversion numbers are the ones
provided by the upstream authors in the UFconfig/UFconfig.h file):

  - libcxsparse2.2.3
  - libklu1.1.0
  - libldl2.0.1
  - libumfpack5.4.0
+ The libsuitesparse-dev and libsuitesparse-dbg packages remain as
before. They depend on all the binary packages above.
+ debian/library-soname.pl: New Perl script that is used everywhere to
obtain the name of the package for each library. This is the
centralized place where this information should be provided.
+ The debian/control file has been moved into debian/control.in and is
automatically generated by debian/rules with the appropriate names
  of the packages being replaced.
+ debian/patches/*.diff: All the patches have been adapted for
obtaining the library soversion using the debian/library-soname.pl
  script.
+ debian/symbols/*, debian/install/*: These are the source files for
the debian/lib*.symbols and debian/lib*.install. The later are
obtained from the former in debian/rules by using the appropriate
package names. For now, this is acomplished with $(foreach) in
debian/rules and amounts to simply copying files, like
  cp debian/symbols/AMD debian/libamd2.2.symbols
+ debian/NEWS: Document the changes above

  * Switch from dpatch to quilt as patch system

  * debian/control.in:
+ The Debian packaging files are now maintained through a Git
repository at alioth.debian.org. Switch the Vcs-* URLs to Git,
  accordingly.
+ Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.1 (add debian/README.source explaining
mentioning the quilt patch system, as mandated by the Policy)

  * debian/rules: Prevent removal of debian/README.source in clean rule

  [ Thomas Viehmann ]
  * Sprinkle some linking to KLU, UMFPACK shared libraries
to not have unresolved symbols. Remove some from CHOLMOD.
Now dpkg-shlibdeps does not warn anymore.
(changing debian/patches/*Makefile.dpatch)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-s3

Here's the xorg.conf file that was used with this log. My video card
does not have enough RAM to allow me to use 24-bit mode.

I get the same error with the default config file or the one that I got
in Hardy.

[Bug 293376] Re: Thinkpad T60 volume down button stops music

2009-06-15 Thread kimdh
Is there a fix planned for intrepid? My volume buttons were fine while
I was temporarily using the radeon driver; however, when I switched to
the fglrx driver, I started getting the symptoms described above (as
well as in the duplicate bug).

I have an IBM T43 with an X300 (which is no longer supported by ATI), so
I don't want to upgrade to Jaunty and lose 3D acceleration.

If there is no official fix and it's easy enough to do, could someone
point me in the right direction so I might do it myself? It's not life-
or-death, but it /is/ a nuisance. Thanks.

[Bug 387176] [NEW] [Xubuntu Intrepid] ICS slows down Firefox...

[Bug 370978] Re: Package failed to install and crashed...

2009-06-15 Thread Jonathan Marsden
Derrick:

Thanks for the report. Your steps to reproduce the issue seem somewhat
roundabout to me. Bear in mind that any time you have to build packages
from source in order to reproduce a bug, there is probably a better
(simpler) way to do things! Nevertheless, I tried to follow your
approach.

Here is what I tried to reproduce this issue:

(1) Create a new virtual machine, and install Ubuntu Desktop 9.04 i386
on it.

(2) In a terminal window in that newly created Ubuntu 9.04 machine, do:

  # Install older Jaunty version of bibledit
  sudo apt-get -y install bibledit

(3) Now to try to reproduce your approach and this issue. In a terminal
window, do:

  # Install basic development tools
  sudo apt-get -y install build-essential devscripts
  # Grab the latest bibledit source package 3.7-1 from Ubuntu archives
  mkdir -p ~/packages/bibledit
  cd ~/packages/bibledit
  dget
ftp://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/b/bibledit/bibledit_3.7-1.dsc
  dpkg-source -x *.dsc
  # Install build dependencies
  sudo apt-get -y build-dep bibledit
  # Install more build dependenceis for the newer package
  sudo apt-get -y install rcs libenchant-dev libgtkhtml3.14-dev git-core
  sudo apt-get -y install libcurl4-gnutls-dev libgtksourceview2.0-dev
  # Build new version of bibledit from source
  cd bibledit-3.7
  debuild -us -uc
  # Install it
  sudo dpkg -i ../*.deb

This works fine, and bibledit (version 3.7) now runs normally on this
system.

HOWEVER, after more experimenting, I did find a way to reproduce the
issue -- it seems to require that you install bibledit-data before
installing/updating bibledit itself.

NOTE: The simpler way by far to get to this point in Jaunty at the
moment would be to use the CrossWire Packaging Team PPA and so avoid
needing to build anything from scratch, by replacing (3) above with:

  wget
https://launchpad.net/~pkgcrosswire/+archive/ppa/+files/crosswire-ppa_1.6~09.04_all.deb
  sudo dpkg -i crosswire*.deb
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get -y install bibledit

Job done -- this approach also works fine, needs no development tools,
and is a *lot* quicker :) Oh, and you'll get updates as we release them
into the PPA, too!

Once Karmic is released, we expect to be able to get a backported
version of bibledit 3.7 into the jaunty-backports repository, so people
can enable that and install from there, rather that needing to use a
(less trusted) PPA.

I'll package Bibledit 3.7.42 (the latest source tarball release of
Bibledit) and correct this issue.

Thanks,

Jonathan

The same problem here, with the buddy list button appearing in the

[Bug 384511] Re: Toogle display key not working anymore

2009-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package udev-extras - 20090615+1-1

---
udev-extras (20090615+1-1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Update to git 190658b9:
- Add hid2hci.
- udev-acl: add sound card input-jack devices.
- Some bug fixes.
  * Add Conflicts: hotkey-setup, since we have taken over keymap handling now,
and hotkey-setup only has some old cruft which sometimes even breaks keys.
(LP: #384511)
  * Add debian/README.source to explain source package structure and how to
merge to a new upstream snapshot.

[Bug 365380] Re: LTSP clients kernel panic on boot when active nic isn't eth0

2009-06-15 Thread Xepec
This doesn't help.

In fact, when I've booted from 9.04 live cd, lshw gave me following
difference with 7.10 live cd:

9.04:
/0/100/5 eth0network RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+
/1 pan0network Ethernet interface

7.10:
/0/100/5 eth0network RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+

When I put ip=:eth0 in
/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default I get exactly the same
situation

ipconfig: eth0: SIOCGIFINDEX: No such device
ipconfig: no devices to configure
/init: .: line 1: can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf
kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

How else can I see what devises are there at the client side?

[Bug 228988] Re: Firefox can display a page with the wrong encoding

2009-06-15 Thread André Pirard
There it goes again.
I opened a new tab and I clicked a bookmark set to
http://atilf.atilf.fr/tlf.htm.
WiFi was down.
I don't know if I did anything in between.
But when I clicked try again, I got what's in the attachment.
View/Character Encoding is UTF8 and displayed URL is this
http://atilf.atilf.fr/dendien/scripts/tlfiv4/showps.exe?p=combi.htm;java=no;

Why is this report still incomplete after one year?
I have identified a repeatable procedure.
Do you need more information?
Do you really want bug reports?
Am I losing my time?

[Bug 387179] [NEW] usability issue in quick connect

2009-06-15 Thread Sandeep
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tsclient

We are getting a lot of people in our office to start using Ubuntu - and
Terminal Services is an important part of it.

I have seen a lot of people expecting the following:
1. The Quick Connect dropdown has a list of saved profiles
2. When you select a particular profile from Quick Connect, the Logon Settings
section gets populated with the profile settings.
3. When you press connect, terminal services connects according to the logon
settings (which came from a saved profile)

4. With reference to Bug #160038 , the last N hosts connected to (but
not saved *explicitly* as a named profile) should still be available in
the Quick Connect dropdown, named as the IP address of the machine you
used. The explicitly saved profiles and the auto-saved last-n-hosts can
be separated by a separator.

5. Do NOT save passwords unless a checkbox (Save Password?) is ticked.
This is to prevent a sysadmin temporarily using a machine to connect and
having the password saved.

I have had a lot of people being surprised when selection of a profile (#2
above) causes a connection to launch. These people are used to the way putty
handles profiles and it was very puzzling for them.

It would be great if these usability issues are addressed!

thanks.

[Bug 383613] Re: Please merge lcdproc 0.5.2-3 (universe) from Debian unstable

2009-06-15 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hey Michael,
Good work on reducing the delta, however I would still leave out the unused
gentoo patch since it's confusing to have it in patches/ while it is unused.
Forwarding that delta to Debian would make sense (if not already done).
If you agree, please resubmit a fixed debian-to-ubuntu.debdiff and I'll upload
it :)

[Bug 379593] Re: 3G sierra wireless card cannot connect. Driver Loads but unable to dial.

2009-06-15 Thread Bruce Wolfe
Hi Bejay, et. al.

I have a Fujitsu T2010 that has a built in Sierra MC8780 3G modem. Like
you worked fine in earlier versions now in 9.04 it doesn't.

Connects, logs in and then gets reset/closed.

I updated the Driver - but this did not resolve the NM issue. It did
however let me manually use pppd to connect. When comparing the logs for
NM vs. direct I noticed that direct uses /dev/ttyUSB0 for comms whilst
NM appears to be trying to use /dev/ttyUSB2 for comms. It would appear
that NM is trying to talk across the wrong device in my case, but at
this time I am not sure how to change NM's behaviour.

Can anybody help with this??

As a result - there appears to be a bug in the NM environment in
choosing the correct device.

I don't know if I actually needed to upgrade the driver, although the
Sierra site certainly implies it is necessary.

[Bug 231709] Re: apport-gtk error

2009-06-15 Thread Martin Pitt
I think this belongs to /usr/share/applications/apport-gtk-mime.desktop.
This isn't a desktop file which is supposed to be displayed, and it has
NoDisplay=true.

It seems you used the menu editor to forcefully display this? This
doesn't work.
