[Bug 529361] [NEW] after coming back from suspend the temperatures aren'tnoticed anymore

2010-02-27 Thread godhika
Public bug reported:

I am currently running Lucid Lynx alpha 3 (64 bit). When I come back
from suspend, no matter how hot the computer gets, the fan keeps still.
The computer temperature applet and xsensors both show every temperature
to be 0 degrees. After reboot the temperature is once again read
correctly. This bug fries my laptop!

[Bug 529358] [NEW] Not able to hear the audio sound from the computer

2010-02-27 Thread Rao Y
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I just installed the latest version, Ubuntu 9.10 and also did the live
update and restarted the computer. When I put Audio CD, the system asked
to select which player to play the CD, then I selected Rhythmbox. (I
have the version of Rhythmbox 0.12.5). Then I selected track and click
play, it is playing the CD track, but no sound from the speakers. It is
not showing any error, then I tried the radio, but the audio problem is
same, no sound.

[Bug 227159] Re: Single Chinese font on abiword-2.4.6 are difficult to read and use

2010-02-27 Thread Ian Clark
CD burning is broken on my current version of Ubuntu (Karmic). AbiWord
runs painfully slow in Karmic in combination with Ibus now, to the point
where it's unusable and I've removed it. I'm also not a dev and cannot
run alpha versions of Ubuntu and have no computers that are used for
testing. I don't understand how to install programs while using a live
CD.

I would be glad to try this again when the distribution upgrade comes,
though.

+ Web pages that have been saved locally are not displaying correctly. To
+ see this problem run the following steps:

  1). Go to the jwebunit website ( http://jwebunit.sourceforge.net/ ).
Suggesting saving a page from this website as a test since this provided
a very good example of the problem.

2). Right click on the main web page and select "Save As..."

3). Save the web page somewhere on the local drive. On Ubuntu there is
an option in the save dialog specifying how to save the web page. Make
sure that "Web page, complete" is selected.

4). Navigate to the location where the web page was stored and attempt
to load the saved page back into firefox

At this point the web page that is loaded from the hard disk should
display very differently than the real web page. Styles and elements of
the original web page should be missing. I also tested this same
process on Windows XP SP2 (using firefox 3.0.8) and I see the exact same
behavior. This seems to eliminate the problem being caused by local
browser settings (since I see the same thing under Windows and Linux on
two separate machines with totally different preferences). Furthermore
I was able to run steps 1 - 4 using Opera 9.64 and this produces a saved
web page that displays identically to the web page navigated to on the
  internet.

...Additionally I just tried loading the webpage saved locally using
opera and this loads into firefox correctly. So the problem appears to
be with the actual web page save using firefox and not the fact that the
  page is saved locally.

[Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-02-27 Thread Brian Rogers
I have a kernel patch for people to try. It works around the x11perf
freeze, and I'm curious if it prevents random freezing as well. Kernels
with this patch, for both Karmic and Lucid, are available in a separate
PPA of mine, graphics-fixes:

https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes

When you add this PPA and reload, a new kernel version will be
available, linux-image-2.6.31-50-generic for Karmic or linux-
image-2.6.32-50-generic for Lucid. It won't be an update to an existing
kernel, so you'll have to pick it and install it manually.

Testing will be most interesting without the packages from graphics-testing, so
run this command to remove that:
sudo ppa-purge ppa:brian-rogers/graphics-testing

Note that the patch in this new kernel is a workaround and may impair
performance in certain specific scenarios. But it will be useful in figuring
out whether the random freeze and the x11perf freeze are related.

[Bug 529349] [NEW] postfix-to-mailman.py is broken when postfix recipient_delimiter="-"

2010-02-27 Thread butter71
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mailman

mailman 2.1.12
postfix 2.6.5
ubuntu 9.10/karmic

setup according to the instructions in postfix-to-mailman.py.

when postfix recipient_delimiter="-", the 'user' gets passed to postfix-
to-mailman.py with the trailing -xxx removed. mail to "list-owner" or
"list-subscribe", etc gets passed as "list". this breaks anything but
mail to the list.

i patched postfix master.cf to send the entire recipient address and
postfix-to-mailman to manually extract the username.

patch attached.

2010-02-27 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in linux.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 526898] Re: Slow to release wireless lock in auto-login sessions

2010-02-27 Thread Vish
Sorry for the confusion.
This is not a bug in either gnome-keyring or network manager.

I had started using transmission recently , and since it was among my
startup [auto-launch] apps, transmission would start fast and begin
using the bandwidth _completely_ , not allowing any other app to gain
access to the network.

Once i removed transmission from the startup items , this problem was
solved.

[Bug 12040] Re: GNOME "Main Menu" panel applet slow to open on first click (NOT compiz related)

2010-02-27 Thread Karl Martin
After switching my hard disk to a solid state disk (Intel X-25M G2) this
bug disappeared. This supports the assumption that the delay is caused
by accessing lots of files on the hard disk as a task like this benefits
considerably from the low access times of a solid state disk.

[Bug 529337] [NEW] Hangs for a long time when editing labels on large files

2010-02-27 Thread dhd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacity

How to trigger this bug:

 1) Create a fairly long audio file (in this case 45 minutes)
 2) Create a label track with a bunch of long labels in it (i.e. transcriptions)
 3) Try to edit the text in one of the labels, preferably the first one

Audacity will freeze for quite a long time.

Actually label editing has a bunch of problems but this one is
particularly bad... It turns out that the code that's responsible is
the "experimental lyrics window", which can be shown when you choose
"Karaoke..." from the View menu.

You can easily disable this "feature" by commending out the
EXPERIMENTAL_LYRICS_WINDOW line in src/Experimental.h, which makes it
possible to edit label texts. But I'm sure some people out there
actually use it...

Public bug reported:

The keyring is no longer automatically unlocked on login anymore in

something similar. Also, the grammar in the heading of that dialog is

[Bug 525295] Re: Lucid indicator icons are not shown. Displays the "unknown icon" instead

** Summary changed:

+ Lucid indicator icons are not shown. Displays the "unknown icon" instead

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: indicator-applet

- The volume icon is not shown, ancd there is the black "unknown icon"
displayed instead.
- Lucid x86_64
- indicator-applet 0.3.2-0ubuntu3
- Screenshot attached.
+ From comment #6:
+
+ The API (Liblindicator) which the indicator-sound uses expects a
+ GtkImage as the icon. GtkImage does provide the same fall back mechanism
+ which Sebastian has pointed to above with GtkIcon. It is a known issue
+ across all indicators and one which will need to be resolved shortly.
