Re: [Bug 742582] Re: Add touch gesture events

2011-04-01 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
I just caught up with the thread in this bug.

Scott, you're right, Duncan was out of line to phrase the request the
way he did. I had reminded the touch and Unity teams the set of gestures
they were supposed to support and deliver, and that required the API /
ABI change. The only consumer of those API's is Unity, and the gestures
are essential for the usability of the interface with multi-touch pads.
So, since the regression risk was tightly contained, it seemed a
reasonable ask.

Re: [Bug 744194] Re: In bfb dash, file results should come below application results

2011-04-01 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
I think we need to review this behaviour carefully in Oneiric.

If you have a perfect match app, then yes, I agree. If you have a
partial match app, but a great match file, then I don't. I think the
user will expect a "give me what I want" story, not a "Files before
Apps" or the other way around story.

[Bug 746826] Re: [i915gm] GPU lockup ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x7d8e0001

2011-04-01 Thread Wage
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 747676 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747676

I get two error messages when I login, these sometimes come back 4 or 5 times.
After the errors my computer is normally fine for awhile. Randomly the screen
gets scrambled, sometimes it goes back to my screen and I can move the mouse
but can't click and the only thing I can do with the keyboard is open a text
console which I use to restart.

I've had to restart at least 4 or 5 times in the last few hours but
sometimes I will only have to once or twice a day. I update my packages
several times a day hoping for a fix to this.

[Bug 748049] [NEW] Ubiquity top bar with network and sound applet doesn't display

2011-04-01 Thread Thibault Baldetti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Hello
I am testing Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwall Desktop i386 in live session. (beta 1)

Hardware:
IBM Thinkpad T60 Laptop
Intel Core Duo
Intel GMA 950
2048 MB of RAM
250 GB of Hard Disk
This computer works flawlessly in Ubuntu 10.10

When I launch the live USB using default options (without typing any button in
the first purple boot screen) , the Ubiquity installer display without the top
bar with network and sound applet. There are nothing in the top of the screen.
It just says "Wireless connections are available"
But when I launch "Try Ubuntu" , Gnome starts normally and the top bar displays.

Thank you!

[Bug 572125] Re: HPLIP + LaserJet 10xx/P10xx: "out of paper" resetter needed

2011-04-01 Thread Cesare Mastroianni
Thanks Till K. so far ... but still no help came from HP about the HP -
P10xx devices (at least, no help about my P1005). In the meantime, I
turn to Maverick (leaving Lucid), and nothing happened: the "bug" is
still here.

Ciao

[Bug 745608] Re: font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-04-01 Thread Zhmak
Hi Bryce,

1. Can't remember first occurrence. I'm sure that I saw it in Maverick, may be
in Lucid. Second screenshot made in Maverick.
2. It happening few times at week. I can surf web with firefox or opening
console, nothing unusual.
3. I'll switch to "no effects" mode to find it out.
4. I don't think so. Using only default themes and fonts. You can find that
another font affected on second attached screenshot (monospace font on console)
.

Also I saw thin grey (transparent?) streak on maximize button yesterday
and same streak on close button while writing this reply. Can' take
screenshot because changing focus to gnome-screenshot cause to change
button color and streak disappear.

Thanks for attention!

Re: [Bug 731481] Re: second window does not open CTRL-T

2011-04-01 Thread Bernhard Kleine
My house has standard CAB5 ethernet cables and we connect to a hub to a
router and then via dsl to the internet. these connections are
hardcoded, i do not use dhcp.

the connections to the internet are to two ISP where I (resp. my
customers) have my/their webspace. these are the most prominent isp in
germany 1&1 and strato.

Bandwidth is between 30 kbit/s and 476 kbit/s depending whether my kids
are playing or downloading.

[Bug 712377] Re: Opening a known good *.deb with software centre, fails to install as lintian errors cannot be overidden

2011-04-01 Thread cigrainger
I have this bug in Natty Beta 1 64-bit, and using the terminal to
install with dpkg is not working either for Chrome. Should be 'sudo dpkg
-i name_of_pkg.deb' and that's encountering errors while processing,
failing after processing triggers for python support. Dpkg worked for
Skype.

[Bug 748028] [NEW] guayadeque causes high CPU usage, even when idle

2011-04-01 Thread Metalash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: guayadeque

The bug occurs in Ubuntu Natty Beta 1, AMD-64, and guayadeque
0.2.7-1227.

Guayadeque results in extremely high CPU usage (70 - 100%) immediately
after starting up, even when no tracks are playing. I saw some
flickering in the UI which seems to suggest that for some reason, the UI
is continually being refreshed. The problem occurs in both the Unity and
the Ubuntu Classic sessions.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04
Package: guayadeque 0.2.7-2
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-7.39-generic 2.6.38

[Bug 629580] Re: Linux kernel in Ubuntu 10.04 has different disk order than grub2/BIOS

2011-04-01 Thread zzarko
Is there a possibility to run natty's grub2 straight from live cd? Right
now, I don't have a spare partition to install 11.04 beta (I checked
disk order in live Ubuntu 11.04 and it's the same as in my current
10.10). Can I maybe just install natty's grub2 on my system somehow, to
check it's disk order?

[Bug 748026] [NEW] remove twitter-glib from natty

2011-04-01 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The twitter-glib package was synced from Debian, where it's no longer
available in any release. Furthermore, it fails to build with the
current toolchain because it requires gdk_pixbuf but does not link to
it:

  LINK twitter-test
/usr/bin/ld: twitter_test-user-test.o: undefined reference to symbol
'gdk_pixbuf_get_type'
/usr/bin/ld: note: 'gdk_pixbuf_get_type' is defined in DSO
/usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 so try adding it to the linker command line
/usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

The package has no reverse-dependencies, so I don't think it makes sense
to fix this, we should just remove the package.

[Bug 748027] [NEW] gnome-system-log: cannot read when scrolled-back

2011-04-01 Thread Gablewatts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

I am trying to read earlier entries in the kern.log or the syslog so I
use the scroll bar on the text view to attempt to scroll back but I am
constantly thwarted by gnome-system-log scrolling to the tail of the
file because a new line was added to the log. gnome-system-log does
this even WHILE I am dragging the scroll elevator up attempting to view
earlier entries in the log!

I appreciate the value of automatically scrolling to the tail of the log
when a new entry is added. But doing so when the user is attempting to
scroll back to read earlier entries is thwarting the user's use of the
scroll bar.

I suggest that if the user has scrolled back to view earlier entries in
the log, gnome-system-log should suspend it's "scroll to tail when new
entries added" behavior until the user has scrolled to the end of the
log again.

[Bug 748022] [NEW] File Browser crashes on first Natty startup

2011-04-01 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

I'm testing Natty beta 1 on an amd64 machine. On first startup, the
first thing I see is a Bug Buddy dialog:

"The application File Browser crashed. The bug reporting tool was
unable to collect enough information about the crash to be useful to the
developers."

I believe there was another dialog in the background, but the screen
behind the Bug Buddy dialog doesn't refresh when I move the window so I
can't reveal it. Dismissing the Bug Buddy dialog also gets rid of
whatever I saw in the background.

[Bug 115970] Re: qt4 apps doesn't start with symbol lookup error

2011-04-01 Thread Mannex
The only solution I came up with was reinstalling the OS, not as a
solution (because that would be rather drastic!), but because I had to
-- my hard drive crashed. When I got everything running again, I just
didn't install GoogleEarth. Sorry. Not much help.

[Bug 582473] Re: bozohttpd show index of /homt/user if there is no public_html there

2011-04-01 Thread Andreas Moog
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed
in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Natty Narwhal.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU
Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

[Bug 748012] [NEW] package flashplugin-installer 10.2.153.1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-04-01 Thread Peter Gaultney
Public bug reported:

Flash doesn't seem to be working in Chrome on Natty. The plugin isn't
displayed on the about:plugins page as they say it should be. I figured,
if nothing else, I'd try installing it from the repos. I didn't really
expect it to fix the problem, but I also didn't expect the install to
fail.

[Bug 748004] [NEW] system becomes very slow after suspend/resume

2011-04-01 Thread Felix Lawrence
Public bug reported:

My quad core i5 iMac becomes unusably slow after resuming from suspend.
One process will take 100% of a CPU (and nothing will run on the other
cores). This process is usually Xorg or beam.smp, although sometimes
firefox or evolution will take over. I have observed this with and
without the ATI drivers. Logging out and in does not fix the problem
for more than a minute or so - only a reboot seems to clear the problem.

[Bug 731481] Re: second window does not open CTRL-T

2011-04-01 Thread Joe Areeda
Thanks Bernhard,

No sftp is a different protocol than Samba. Samba connects to Windows
shared folder.

But both rely on the network. I've been struggling to reproduce the
problem, now I will try with sftp.

I'm starting to think we're seeing network issues. A dropped or
corrupted packet could be causing the hang up.

I think a much better action would be for the system to report the error
or better yet retry it a few times.

So the problem is how do we prove it or find a way to repeat it.

Tell me about your network. Are you on a wireless or wired connection
between the system that hangs and the one with the files?

How reliable is it? What kind of through put are you getting? Are you
connecting to a system on your local network or over the Internet?

Perhaps we could get it to happen and then to a ping for a few minutes
and see if any packets are lost.

I'll see if I can find a network testing tool that simulates an
unreliable network.

Joe
