[Bug 875504] Re: terrible screen flicker in 11.10
I found a workaround that works for me. This only works for nvidia-cards. The problem I appear to have is also discussed here for 10.04: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1476693. The problem for nvidia in my case is the 'PowerMizer' feature that is found on laptops using nvidia-drivers. It dynamically underclocks the GPU when it's not being used much, and this caused the flickering in my case. The workaround I have found so far was to follow what was suggested here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=828369&highlight=powermizer Basically I run this script in the background, forcing my 'Performance Level' to be fixed at 1. #!/bin/bash while true; do nice /usr/bin/nvidia-settings -q all &> /dev/null sleep 25 done Ugly, but it works :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875504 Title: terrible screen flicker in 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/875504/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 737854] Re: No digital output in live session (Natty alpha3)
Hey Bryce, I actually didn't know I could do that... thanks for the info... I've tested again in oneiric and the bug is still there, so I'll leave it open. I think this bug is important because it prevents regular (unskilled) users from installing Ubuntu and it's a door to potential new Ubuntu users. [Bug 540774] Re: G_VALUE_HOLDS_BOOLEAN (value)' failed
Lucid - no bug Maverick - upgrade from Lucid - bug Both of these machines use the nvidia driver. The reproduction, at least for me, is quite simple; open qtconfig-qt4 and try to change a dropdown, like GUI Style. Open VLC, and almost any activity that involves input widgets will cause the session to terminate immediately. I tried creating a new user and reproduced the issue in the same manner, using qtconfig, so I don't believe it to be related to some stale/corrupt config. I have seen various posts in various places that suggest xinerama/twinview to be the problem. I also note that despite the fact that I have the same failed assertion, and almost everything noted in #23, this issue appears as though it may have been hijacked. Can any of you that have reported GDM session termination please try the qtconfig reproduction? [Bug 889414] Re: Run dialog opens up in the background
The default openbox configuration file is at /etc/xdg/openbox/rc.xml and this comes from the openbox package. However, Lubuntu package lubuntu-default-settings overrides this and installs a file named /usr/share/lubuntu/openbox/rc.xml which (apparently) is then copied to every user's ~/.config/openbox/lubuntu- rc.xml These two sets of defaults in Lubuntu 11.10 are fairly different, making it hard to see what changes to the defaults have really been made for Lubuntu by diff-ing the two files. Anyway, if you edit the file ~/.config/openbox.lubuntu-rc.xml and add the follow set of lines just before the last two lines (i.e., just before the line ) the run dialog will be dispplayed on top of other apps, and obtain focus. After editing you need to restart openbox (or reboot, if you prefer) for it to take effect. This needs more testing, especially to see if it does anything strange to other aspects of lxpanel, but so far it looks good. Please let me know if it works for you. I will also attach this change to the bug as a patch. mouse yes 1 above -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/889414 Title: Run dialog opens up in the background To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/889414/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
