[Bug 930555] [NEW] Launcher reveal sensitivity can not be set to a high enough level
Public bug reported: Background: - Now that the launcher dodge feature has been removed and the launcher default set to "never hide" the launcher will overlay full screen applications. Most new and experienced users will want to change the behaviour to "always hide" when they discover this. On the same tab in gnome-control-center (Appearance --> Behaviour) they will see the slider setting for reveal sensitivity. It would be expected that the user would try changing this to find the setting that works best for them. Expected behaviour: Setting the slider from extreme left to right should vary the sensitivity from almost dead to a hair trigger. This might be considered reasonable since some users will want the launcher to stay hidden at all costs when they don't want it, and others will want it to show up as soon as the pointer touches the left edge of the screen. An example of someone who does not want the launcher to reveal easily would be someone editing photographs. They may spend a lot of time working on the left edge of a photograph or have a tool bar on the left, and may want the sensitivity set very low so that the launcher does not appear when it's not wanted. An example of someone who wants the launcher to appear very easily would be a person using a netbook with a touchpad. They may want the launcher to appear as soon as they move the pointer to the left, minimising the effort required to switch to or launch other applications. Actual behaviour: Currently setting the slider fully to the left causes the launcher to not appear at all. Even if the mouse is moved rapidly and for some distance across the table the launcher does not reveal. This is not too objectionable, since some users may actaully want to disable the launcher except for keyboard controls. Setting the the slider a big further to the right causes the launcher to reveal after the mouse has been moved a further 20mm against the edge. this is also reasonable since it takes a deliberate effort to do this. Setting the slider to the 'default' position gives a reasonable sensitivity requiring the mouse to be moved about 10mm for the launcher to reveal. Moving the slider even further to the right however does not appear to increase the sensivity by any appreciable degree. Even putting the slider on the far right position requires a movement of the mouse (or touchpad) of 10mm or very close to this amount. Suggested improvement to the reveal sensitivity: - Change the degree of maximum sensitivity so that the launcher can be made to appear very easily when the pointer is moved to the left edge of the screen. The default behavour of the launcher reveal when the dodge feature was enabled was almost ideal in as much as the launcher hardly ever showed up when it was not needed, and yet it appeared very quickly when the pointer was moved to the left edge of the screen. This made using the Launcher on a netbook with only a touchpad very easy and a pleasant experience. With the current maximum setting there is a noticable delay when trying to get to the launcher to reveal itself. [Bug 930551] Re: System with quota enabled hangs after upgrade to 11.10
Upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 worked. The system came up and ran. Upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 worked. The system does not come up complete. Adding "init=/bin/bash" to the kernel commandline gives a shell and shows all devices are mounted. trying to boot from this commandline by starting init, makes the system hang again at the very same point. The boot-log does not tell about anything usefull, since it is not written. Removing quota from fstab doesn't matter. The system hangs at the very same point. Removing dm-0-mount from fstab keeps the system hanging. Removing dm-1-mount from fstab keeps the system hanging. Removing dm-0 and dm-1 from fstab brings the system up to login. As soon as dm-0 or dm-1 are entered again into fstab the same problem again. There must be something horribly broken with lvm. It is, indeed possible to remove dm-0 and dm-1 from fstab, boot, then mount both manually, but that isn't a real option for a normaly headless running server! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930551 Title: System with quota enabled hangs after upgrade to 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/quota/+bug/930551/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 527503] Re: Software Center is missing several icons in KDE/Xubuntu
I'm seeing the same problem in Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS with Gnome. The problem appeared after I removed OpenOffice and installed LibreOffice 3.4.5 in its place. I tried removing software-center and reinstalling it from the repository, but it didn't fix the problem. There was an anomaly immediately after the OpenOffice-LibreOffice changeover. When I ran Update Manager it indicated that only a partial upgrade was possible due to a dependency mismatch, or something to that effect. I proceeded with the so-called "partial upgrade" and happened to notice that it removed cups-pdf in the process, along with several other items that should NOT have been removed, leaving me without a PDF printer driver. I subsequently reinstalled cups-pdf via a terminal window. When I ran Update Manager again it said my system was up-to- date and everything appeared to be in order. However, when I now open Software Center, it runs extremely slowly and the Fonts icon does not get populated. When I click on the various Get Software icons, the subsequent screens take a very long time to load and most of the second- level icons are missing, exactly as shown in the screen shot by Steve Beattie (sbeattie) on 2010-04-06. The animated "busy" cursor is displayed and the window doesn't get populated with icons at all sometimes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527503 Title: Software Center is missing several icons in KDE/Xubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/software-center/+bug/527503/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 903098] Re: Please merge (sort of) couchdb 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing
Oh yeah - and because the merge proposal just makes my eyes bleed, I'm going to go ahead and attach the debdiff from Debian here and reject the MP. The useful discussion is here and not on the MP, and the MP doesn't accurately represent the patch anyway. ** Patch added: "couchdb_1.1.1-1_to_1.1.1-1ubuntu1.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/couchdb/+bug/903098/+attachment/2731015/+files/couchdb_1.1.1-1_to_1.1.1-1ubuntu1.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903098 Title: Please merge (sort of) couchdb 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/couchdb/+bug/903098/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 903098] Re: Please merge (sort of) couchdb 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing
Hi Jason - In the future, I'd strongly encourage falling back to debdiffs instead of bzr branches when you run into this much trouble getting the bzr MPs to do what you want. I don't want to blame you for the tardiness of the review here - that's clearly a failure of the development and sponsorship teams - but I do think that a debdiff on this bug would have gotten more eyeballs than the MP in its current state. After a lot of staring, though, I think I'm mostly satisfied with this change. I only really have one issue: /etc/couchdb/local.ini and /etc/couchdb/local.d/ were moved from couchdb-bin to couchdb. This means that couchdb should probably Replace couchdb-bin (<= 1.0.1-0ubuntu18) in order to ensure a smooth upgrade. Does moving the file between packages trigger a conffile conflict if the user hasn't otherwise changed /etc/couchdb/local.ini? It's a little unfortunate that couchdb-bin used to create the couchdb user/group and never bothered to clean them up on uninstall, but I think that may be a historical turd we'll have to live with. Modulo the conffile conflict question, I'm satisfied with this. Jason, if you can add the missing Replaces, do some testing around that, and report back, I'd be happy to sponsor the change. I'm particularly interested to know whether the user is prompted on upgrade if they haven't changed the local.ini file. [Bug 930484] Re: Slow and disconnecting wireless connection ath9k driver
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric running-unity ** Description changed: I have had a next to unusable internet connection with my wireless card for my desktop (where I am living, a wired connection is simply not an option). When I start up the computer from a reboot, it connects to the correct wireless network. But when I try and open a webpage, for instance, it becomes unbearable. It often takes 5 minutes just to load google. What is strange is that my internet comes in "bursts", and when the page finally does load, it does so quickly. Then it stops again and is slow. I do not think that the router is a problem because my laptop, as well as some other computers all connect just fine with fast speeds. Furthermore, I have tried numerous solutions such as the "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" and compiling the compat-wireless drivers from source. My guess is that the change in the module name is not intentional, since it breaks upgrades. ** Affects: libapache2-mod-rpaf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930540 Title: Mismatching module name in .conf for libapache2-mod-rpaf 0.6-2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libapache2-mod-rpaf/+bug/930540/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
