I took a guess what package this might be. Please change it to the correct one if wrong. More tumblr and presumably other sites are going to be affected by this over time. Following an old RFC that is obviously not being enforced at the server end is Clearly the wrong behavior for the client. The sentiment behind RFC 1958 section 3.9 applies very well here: Be strict when sending and tolerant when receiving. ** Package changed: ubuntu => resolvconf (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668926 Title: can't resolve domain names starting with a dash (minus sign) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/668926/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 927515] Re: thunderbird uses excessive cpu power
Regression or not, it's still an annoying bug. I'm attaching performance data from my older computer, where this is a nuisance. In the two minutes I let Thunderbird run, it fetched less than 1000 emails - which means just a few emails per second (which is not good IMO!). The latest comment indicates that this would be eCryptfs related - for the record, I'm also running eCryptfs. Seeing the top perf results, it looks like they are crypto related, but I don't think this is the only cause. The fact that it also seems to spend a significant amount of time in pthread_mutex_lock/unlock also looks like a programming error to me. 14,78% thunderbird-bin [kernel.kallsyms] [k] aes_encrypt 3,65% thunderbird-bin libfreebl3.so [.] rijndael_decryptBlock128 3,56% thunderbird-bin libmozsqlite3.so [.] zeroPage 3,50% thunderbird-bin [kernel.kallsyms] [k] aes_decrypt 2,56% thunderbird-bin libpthread-2.15.so [.] pthread_mutex_lock 1,84% thunderbird-bin libpthread-2.15.so [.] __pthread_mutex_unlock_usercnt 1,80% thunderbird-bin [kernel.kallsyms] [k] _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore 1,75% thunderbird-bin [kernel.kallsyms] [k] __copy_from_user_ll_nozero 1,71% thunderbird-bin libfreebl3.so [.] shaCompress ** Attachment added: "perf.data" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/927515/+attachment/3221899/+files/perf.data -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927515 Title: thunderbird uses excessive cpu power To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/927515/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1024213] [NEW] libexif 0.6.21 and exif 0.6.21 were released to fix various overflows and related issues.
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: libexif project security advisory July 12, 2012 PROBLEM DESCRIPTION A number of remotely exploitable issues were discovered in libexif and exif, with effects ranging from information leakage to potential remote code execution. The issues are: CVE-2012-2812: A heap-based out-of-bounds array read in the exif_entry_get_value function in libexif/exif-entry.c in libexif 0.6.20 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly obtain potentially sensitive information from process memory via an image with crafted EXIF tags. CVE-2012-2813: A heap-based out-of-bounds array read in the exif_convert_utf16_to_utf8 function in libexif/exif-entry.c in libexif 0.6.20 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly obtain potentially sensitive information from process memory via an image with crafted EXIF tags. CVE-2012-2814: A buffer overflow in the exif_entry_format_value function in libexif/exif-entry.c in libexif 0.6.20 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via an image with crafted EXIF tags. CVE-2012-2836: A heap-based out-of-bounds array read in the exif_data_load_data function in libexif 0.6.20 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly obtain potentially sensitive information from process memory via an image with crafted EXIF tags. CVE-2012-2837: A divide-by-zero error in the mnote_olympus_entry_get_value function while formatting EXIF maker note tags in libexif 0.6.20 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via an image with crafted EXIF tags. CVE-2012-2840: An off-by-one error in the exif_convert_utf16_to_utf8 function in libexif/exif-entry.c in libexif 0.6.20 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via an image with crafted EXIF tags. CVE-2012-2841: An integer underflow in the exif_entry_get_value function can cause a heap overflow and potentially arbitrary code execution while formatting an EXIF tag, if the function is called with a buffer size parameter equal to zero or one. CVE-2012-2845: An integer overflow in the function jpeg_data_load_data in the exif program could cause a data read beyond the end of a buffer, causing an application crash or leakage of potentially sensitive information when parsing a crafted JPEG file. There are no known public exploits of these issues. AFFECTED VERSIONS All of the described vulnerabilities affect libexif version 0.6.20, and most affect earlier versions as well. SOLUTION Upgrade to version 0.6.21 which is not vulnerable to these issues. [Bug 1024210] [NEW] package lirc 0.9.0-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script was killed by signal (Killed)
Public bug reported: system crashed during install of kde-full meta-package. a text mode screen opened up aksing if I wated to configure something that looked like remote access to my machine without any explanation of what it was. I decided to kill the process out of paranoia and a crash report was generated on the next login. So here we are. The moral of the story? Don't ask a user if they want to configure remote access. Just assume they don't wan't it in the first place, and don't even attempt to install it unless it was specifically requested by the end user. In my case and to my knowledge I made no such request, and if this was part of the defalut kde-full meta-package, then it should be removed unless you want to see more crash reports like this one. [Bug 1016380] Re: apport-gtk crashed with TypeError in _check_bug_pattern(): can't use a string pattern on a bytes-like object
So, this looks like a python3 porting issue. According to comments like this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5184483/python-typeerror-on-regex what's needed is to call 're.compile' with a 'b' flag, for bytes. I'm not familiar with the code enough, to know whether we just can sprinkle that around in all the places where apport's report.py calls 're.compile'. Does anyone have a good guess? [Bug 1024207] [NEW] php5-ps segmentation fault on ps_setfont (64bit)
Public bug reported: php5-ps doesn't work on amd64 based systems. It will throw a segmentation fault at the ps_setfont() function. I was able to reproduce on two separate amd64 machines, including directly from a live CD.From a live CD, here are the steps to reproduce: 1. Add universe to apt-get sources.list 2. apt-get update 3. apt-get install php5 php5-ps 4. Run command: php ps.php (where ps.php is the attached sample program) - When I compiled the example C programs using libps directly, there were no problems with the same set of functions. - When I booted with a 32bit live CD (12.04), the above steps worked fine. No segmentation fault. [Bug 1016380] Re: apport-gtk crashed with TypeError in _check_bug_pattern(): can't use a string pattern on a bytes-like object
Once again, I can't make this happen consistently with the same crashfile. Guessing from the names and times, the last two commenters, like me, probably had apport crash while reporting bug 1024016. A second attempt on that crashfile ran without problem. So I guess there's probably not much use in uploading it. It looks like it's always terminal logs that apport is handling when it breaks.
