[Bug 1035208] Re: touchpad stops working (moving the pointer doesn't work)

2012-08-26 Thread Ivan Zakharyaschev
This time it was again in Firefox (when viewing a history of commits at
Gitorious.org, I pressed the left button and was moving the pointer in
order to select a piece of text; because of some peculiarities of the
markup at Gitorious, instead of selecting the text, the action was
moving around the rectangular area with text.)

[Bug 1042076] Re: Unity sometimes stuck right after login on dualscreen

2012-08-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Christoph,

If unity (compiz) is actually stuck then a stack trace will help us to
confirm and find out why.

Please:
1. Download the attached script to your home directory.
2. Keep logging out/in until you reproduce the bug again.
3. Switch to a virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and log in.
4. Run:
sh ./dstack compiz >> compizstuck.txt
5. Repeat #4 a few times.
6. Run:
sudo restart lightdm
7. Log in normally and attach the file compizstuck.txt to this bug.

Same issue in 12.04, new install.

For me, e-addressbook-factory was not running after I quit evolution.

I re-started evolution, killed e-addressbook-factory while evolution was
running and then it appeared after I exited evolution.

At the moment, all is working as expected.

[Bug 1042075] [NEW] the longer epiphany works the more memory it consumes (a memory leak?)

2012-08-26 Thread Ivan Zakharyaschev
Public bug reported:

I'm concerned with how much memory is used in my Ubuntu 12.04 system on
Toshiba AC100 because there is little RAM.

Epiphany works quite fast on my system, but I have noticed that a lot of
memory was consumed after I left Gmail open in Epiphany over a night.

Perhaps, there is a memory leak?

So, I made an observation over Epiphany's memory consumption (with a
simple script that printed how much memory the processes consume every 5
minutes -- https://gitorious.org/ps-memstat/ps-
memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat or
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-
data/view/head:/ps-memstat -- it runs "ps"):

after Epiphany launched, I opened Gmail in it (the main page, with the
index of my messages) and didn't touch it for about a day.

The data of my observations are saved in https://gitorious.org/ps-
memstat/ps-memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat-
epiphany.out . (They also should be visible in
https://code.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-data , but,
unfortunately, the import of this non-HEAD branch into Launchpad didn't
work correctly -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1000852 ).

In the beginning, the state was like this (it's the output of "ps --sort
-vsize -o comm,vsize,size,rss"):

Mon Jul 30 16:19:50 VLAT 2012
COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 21476 224 568
bash 6248 2496 3748
ps-memstat3680 244 1092
ps1872 632 668
head 1388 296 416
Mon Jul 30 16:24:50 VLAT 2012
COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 323568 243108 51116
bash 6248 249680
ps-memstat3680 244 404
tail 2980 300 156
ps1872 632 668
head 1388 296 416

In the end:

Wed Aug 1 14:00:27 VLAT 2012
COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 381232 300772 55976
bash 6248 2496 0
ps-memstat3728 292 380
tail 2980 30096
ps1872 632 672
head 1388 296 416

So, the consumed virtual memory increased by 60Mb or so.

More info: disk cache is disabled in my Epiphany (not to cause load on
my flash harddrive). I'd also like to give up swap, but that's not
realistic yet to run programs without swap, because they tend to consume
more and more memory (like in the reported case of Epiphany).

I also have a feeling that the Midori process similarly grows constantly
in size if it is left with Gmail opened for a while (a night).

[Bug 1042076] [NEW] Unity sometimes stuck right after login on dualscreen

2012-08-26 Thread Christoph Keller
Public bug reported:

Hi,

there seems to be a really annoyin bug either in unity or compiz or
maybe even Xorg (at least i think one of those is to blame).

Sometimes (approximatly 1 out of 10 times) unity gets stuck right after
login on my dual screen setup. I've never seen that problem on 2 other
systems with only one display! Didn't see that problem on Xfce either.

I can still move around the mouse but i cant click anything. Switching
to the terminal and executing "export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; unity
--replace" fixes it for a short time (about 10 secs). In case i'm fast
enought to logout in this time and log back in everything seems to work
most of the time.

Doesn't look like fglrx is to blame. Even had this problem using the
opensource driver.

Anybody else got this problem?

Let me know what you need to debug that. and i'll append it next time it
happens.

[Bug 871580] Re: wifi lock-up with brcmsmac and broadcom bcm4313

2012-08-26 Thread Ben
Testing with kernel 3.5.2 produces the same lock-ups. The issue appears
to be associated with signal strength, with the lock ups being much more
likely with a weak signal. The surest way to cause a lock up is to
connect and then walk with the laptop out of signal reach.

[Bug 997040] Re: usb printer backend hangs when usblp kernel module is loaded

2012-08-26 Thread terakin
Still in problem even after installing most recent update (cups,
1.5.3-0ubuntu4).
The symptom is also the same.
* Printer is OK after several periods of powering on.
* Then, printer suddenly hangs without warning. I only can know this by
notifying printer spool does not proceed.
* The only solution is to shut down the printer. My printer (Canon Pixma MP600)
cannot shut down by "power" button after encoutering this trouble, only by
plugging off the power code.
* Everything seems to be normal after re-enterying power switch of the printer.
Spooled printing is also OK.
* This situation does not change even if I assign module "usblp" as a
blacklisted one.

I cannot carve up the cause of this problem whether this is driver side
and backend side. However, I suppose that the problem stems from
backend, as same problem occurs after changing the driver. And it seems
that some extra signal (possibly from cups?) makes the printer hangs up.
However, it is also strange that the printer never time out after
plugging off USB cable, or lettting it for several minutes.

What is the best way to solve (or, at least collect related information)
this problem ...?

It's been 9 hours now of constant use and no crashes.

Took these steps to update the NVIDIA display drivers:

Applications > System Tools > System Settings > Hardware > Additional

When the driver search ends, it will show a list of drivers, which
should include NVIDIA if your computer is so equipped.

Default setting after the 12.04LTS upgrade was:

NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 173)

I selected the next option:

NVIDIA accelerated graphocs driver (post-release updates) (version
173-updates).

Activated, closed and rebooted.

Hopefully this has indeed solved the problem.

[Bug 1042052] [NEW] gnome keyring auto-login failure

2012-08-26 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

This bug report is against gdm 3.5.90 from ricotz/staging ppa

I think the lack of auto keyring login is just due to a missing pam
profile.

ln -s /etc/pam.d/gdm /etc/pam.d/gdm-password

I am not sure if the gdm profile is used anymore, of if it should be different
to gdm-password. But currently it seems from the logs that gdm runs the
auto-login profile and then tries to run the gdm-password profile.

[Bug 1042015] Re: Update to 3.5.0

2012-08-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Oh I forgot about the fluendo mp3 plugin. Good point.

But maybe that's not a big deal either.

The version of gst-fluendo-mp3 in Debian is a bit old, 0.10.15. Looking
at the changelog, 0.10.17 in April claims to optionally support the 0.11
API which I believe is the same as the 1.0 API.

https://core.fluendo.com/gstreamer/svn/trunk/gst-fluendo-mp3/ChangeLog

I guess we'd still be stuck with Totem 3.4 for 12.10 as it looks like
Rhythmbox & Shotwell won't be ready & Seb doesn't want to mix gstreamer
libs on the CD.

After restarting compiz/unity again, it works now. Lots of other things
are broken (Ctrl+Alt+T, Windows+Up/Down, etc.), but at least this
unnerving thing seems to have been an one-time issue.

[Bug 1042040] [NEW] Ubuntu doesn't trust debian

2012-08-26 Thread Paul Childs
Public bug reported:

>From question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ca-
certificates/+question/79192

Various secure websites signed by ca.debian.org are listed in Firefox as
having invalid security certificates. E.g. https://alioth.debian.org/
URLs and https://mentors.debian.net/register/register etc.

One shouldn't have to compromise security on creating exceptions to
access secure debian websites. There is a large amount of contribution
between Ubuntu and debian devs and having stumbling blocks like this in
the way can only hurt the working relationship.

[Bug 1042041] [NEW] 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: wrong auto-raise, cannot be disabled

2012-08-26 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

I have configured compiz to do sloppy focus-follows-mouse without
autoraise. Until Friday this was working fine, but after the weekend's
dist-upgrades, which included compiz 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu2 (from
1:0.9.8+bzr3249-0ubuntu4), windows now auto-raise when the mouse pointer
is in them.

This does not seem to be an issue in the gsettings migration, as the
settings look fine:

$ gsettings list-recursively|egrep 'raise|focus'
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise false
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise-delay 1000
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'sloppy'
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-new-windows 'smart'
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences raise-on-click true
org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings raise ['disabled']
org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings raise-or-lower @as []

[Bug 1042039] [NEW] Dash fails to find installed applications - extra spaces are sometimes required in searches, eg for Netbeans

2012-08-26 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

I installed netbeans 7.1.2 and 7.2 (the launcher for 7.1.2 is in the
unity launcher).

When I open the dash and type 'net', both applications are displayed as
search matches and have names 'NetBeans IDE xyz', but when I add b to
the search (ie 'netb'), these matches disappear. However, if I type 'net
b' (ie with a space), both applications are displayed again as matches.

I expect the dash to find the applications without the space in the
search term, which I believe is how Ubuntu 12.04's dash worked.

The desktop file for netbeans-7.2 is:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=NetBeans IDE 7.2
Comment=The Smarter Way to Code
Exec=/bin/sh "/usr/local/netbeans-7.2/bin/netbeans"
Icon=/usr/local/netbeans-7.2/nb/netbeans.png
Categories=Application;Development;Java;IDE
StartupWMClass=NetBeans IDE 7.2
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=0

[Bug 1042015] Re: Update to 3.5.0

2012-08-26 Thread Robert Ancell
This might still be a problem if the paid MP3 codecs aren't available
for GStreamer 1.0 in Quantal. Depends if we consider sound-juicer to be
an important app (it is in main not universe). It's probably exempt from
an exception as it's part of GNOME and that's traditionally exempt from
feature freeze as long as we're just doing the standard updates to 3.6.
