[Bug 1042075] [NEW] the longer epiphany works the more memory it consumes (a memory leak?)
Public bug reported: I'm concerned with how much memory is used in my Ubuntu 12.04 system on Toshiba AC100 because there is little RAM. Epiphany works quite fast on my system, but I have noticed that a lot of memory was consumed after I left Gmail open in Epiphany over a night. Perhaps, there is a memory leak? So, I made an observation over Epiphany's memory consumption (with a simple script that printed how much memory the processes consume every 5 minutes -- https://gitorious.org/ps-memstat/ps- memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat or http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat- data/view/head:/ps-memstat -- it runs "ps"): after Epiphany launched, I opened Gmail in it (the main page, with the index of my messages) and didn't touch it for about a day. The data of my observations are saved in https://gitorious.org/ps- memstat/ps-memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat- epiphany.out . (They also should be visible in https://code.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-data , but, unfortunately, the import of this non-HEAD branch into Launchpad didn't work correctly -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1000852 ). In the beginning, the state was like this (it's the output of "ps --sort -vsize -o comm, vsize, size, rss"): Mon Jul 30 16:19:50 VLAT 2012 COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS epiphany-browse 21476 224 568 bash 6248 2496 3748 ps-memstat3680 244 1092 ps1872 632 668 head 1388 296 416 Mon Jul 30 16:24:50 VLAT 2012 COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS epiphany-browse 323568 243108 51116 bash 6248 249680 ps-memstat3680 244 404 tail 2980 300 156 ps1872 632 668 head 1388 296 416 In the end: Wed Aug 1 14:00:27 VLAT 2012 COMMANDVSZ SIZE RSS epiphany-browse 381232 300772 55976 bash 6248 2496 0 ps-memstat3728 292 380 tail 2980 30096 ps1872 632 672 head 1388 296 416 So, the consumed virtual memory increased by 60Mb or so. More info: disk cache is disabled in my Epiphany (not to cause load on my flash harddrive). I'd also like to give up swap, but that's not realistic yet to run programs without swap, because they tend to consume more and more memory (like in the reported case of Epiphany). I also have a feeling that the Midori process similarly grows constantly in size if it is left with Gmail opened for a while (a night). [Bug 1042076] [NEW] Unity sometimes stuck right after login on dualscreen
Public bug reported: Hi, there seems to be a really annoyin bug either in unity or compiz or maybe even Xorg (at least i think one of those is to blame). Didn't see that problem on Xfce either. I can still move around the mouse but i cant click anything. Switching to the terminal and executing "export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; unity --replace" fixes it for a short time (about 10 secs). [Bug 997040] Re: usb printer backend hangs when usblp kernel module is loaded
Still in problem even after installing most recent update (cups, 1.5.3-0ubuntu4). The symptom is also the same. * Printer is OK after several periods of powering on. * Then, printer suddenly hangs without warning. I only can know this by notifying printer spool does not proceed. * The only solution is to shut down the printer. My printer (Canon Pixma MP600) cannot shut down by "power" button after encoutering this trouble, only by plugging off the power code. * Everything seems to be normal after re-enterying power switch of the printer. Spooled printing is also OK. * This situation does not change even if I assign module "usblp" as a blacklisted one. I cannot carve up the cause of this problem whether this is driver side and backend side. However, I suppose that the problem stems from backend, as same problem occurs after changing the driver. And it seems that some extra signal (possibly from cups?) makes the printer hangs up. However, it is also strange that the printer never time out after plugging off USB cable, or lettting it for several minutes. [Bug 1042052] [NEW] gnome keyring auto-login failure
Public bug reported: This bug report is against gdm 3.5.90 from ricotz/staging ppa I think the lack of auto keyring login is just due to a missing pam profile. ln -s /etc/pam.d/gdm /etc/pam.d/gdm-password I am not sure if the gdm profile is used anymore, of if it should be different to gdm-password. [Bug 1042015] Re: Update to 3.5.0
Oh I forgot about the fluendo mp3 plugin. Good point. But maybe that's not a big deal either. The version of gst-fluendo-mp3 in Debian is a bit old, 0.10.15. Looking at the changelog, 0.10.17 in April claims to optionally support the 0.11 API which I believe is the same as the 1.0 API. https://core.fluendo.com/gstreamer/svn/trunk/gst-fluendo-mp3/ChangeLog I guess we'd still be stuck with Totem 3.4 for 12.10 as it looks like Rhythmbox & Shotwell won't be ready & Seb doesn't want to mix gstreamer libs on the CD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042015 Title: Update to 3.5.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sound-juicer/+bug/1042015/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This does not seem to be an issue in the gsettings migration, as the settings look fine: $ gsettings list-recursively|egrep 'raise|focus' org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise false org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise-delay 1000 org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'sloppy' org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-new-windows 'smart' org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences raise-on-click true org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings raise ['disabled'] org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings raise-or-lower @as [] ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: compiz 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-11.11-generic 3.5.2 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-11-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.5.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core,composite,opengl,compiztoolbox,decor,vpswitch,snap,mousepoll,resize,place,move,wall,grid,regex,imgpng,session,gnomecompat,animation,fade,unitymtgrabhandles,workarounds,scale,expo,ezoom,unityshell] Date: Mon Aug 27 06:36:54 2012 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: quantal DistroVariant: ubuntu EcryptfsInUse: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:215a] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Alpha amd64 (20120627) MachineType: LENOVO 3323REG PackageArchitecture: all PlymouthDebug: Error: [Errno 13] Keine Berechtigung: '/var/log/plymouth-debug.log' ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-11-generic root=UUID=8f327c01-56d7-401c-8bd1-5442854e3c85 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: compiz UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 06/07/2010 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 6QET46WW (1.16 ) dmi.board.name: 3323REG dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr6QET46WW(1.16):bd06/07/2010:svnLENOVO:pn3323REG:pvrThinkPadX201:rvnLENOVO:rn3323REG:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 3323REG dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X201 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu2 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.38-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.0~git20120821.c1114c61-0ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.0~git20120821.c1114c61-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.12.99.905-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.99.99~git20120713.6ef1ad6a-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.3-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.1-4~ubuntu1 ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug quantal regression-release running-unity ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042041 Title: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: wrong auto-raise, cannot be disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1042041/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1042039] [NEW] Dash fails to find installed applications - extra spaces are sometimes required in searches, eg for Netbeans
Public bug reported: I installed netbeans 7.1.2 and 7.2 (the launcher for 7.1.2 is in the unity launcher). When I open the dash and type 'net', both applications are displayed as search matches and have names 'NetBeans IDE xyz', but when I add b to the search (ie 'netb'), these matches disappear. However, if I type 'net b' (ie with a space), both applications are displayed again as matches. I expect the dash to find the applications without the space in the search term, which I believe is how Ubuntu 12.04's dash worked. The desktop file for netbeans-7.2 is: [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=NetBeans IDE 7.2 Comment=The Smarter Way to Code Exec=/bin/sh "/usr/local/netbeans-7.2/bin/netbeans" Icon=/usr/local/netbeans-7.2/nb/netbeans.png Categories=Application;Development;Java;IDE StartupWMClass=NetBeans IDE 7.2 Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=0 Version info: ubuntu 12.10 libunity-core-6.0-5 6.2.0-0ubuntu3 libnux-3.0-03.2.0-0ubuntu3 ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042039 Title: Dash fails to find installed applications - extra spaces are sometimes required in searches, eg for Netbeans To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1042039/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1042015] Re: Update to 3.5.0
This might still be a problem if the paid MP3 codecs aren't available for GStreamer 1.0 in Quantal. Depends if we consider sound-juicer to be an important app (it is in main not universe). It's probably exempt from an exception as it's part of GNOME and that's traditionally exempt from feature freeze as long as we're just doing the standard updates to 3.6.
