[Bug 575669] Re: Rapid depletion of entropy pool
Christopher, Can you explain how the commit you linked to resolves this issue? The commit seems to place process permissions checks on /proc/pid/stat and /proc/pid/wchan. I do not see how this affects the available entropy unless entropy is being depleted by unauthorized processes accessing those endpoints, which does not seem very likely to me. I doubt I will have time to test trusty before it is released, but once released I will test within a virtual server to see if this issue has been resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575669 Title: Rapid depletion of entropy pool To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575669/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I would really love to see this fixed. This is again a good example how really important things are just broken. astro, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If it remains an issue, please just make a comment to this. If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Bug 1263053] Re: Update the avrdude, avr-libc, binutils-avr and other packages in precise and lucid branches of Ubuntu
After lots of googling, I found that the third party software (or community maintained) are in universe repository component. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu So, I changed my apt software sources for only universe to trusty, as the other three (main, restricted and multiverse) are good with precise. Add following to the /etc/apt/sources.list [code] deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty universe deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty universe [/code] It is working fine... though need to be vigil for some behaviour of apt; such as some packages may be kept back or not upgrade ( but that's not a big deal since those are dependencies which are kept back for some other packages, and therefore need not to upgrade). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263053 Title: Update the avrdude, avr-libc, binutils-avr and other packages in precise and lucid branches of Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/git/+bug/1263053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1265069] [NEW] The POSTINST script tries to unzip/untar from directory other than wget output
Public bug reported: User root (where the installer is running) may have a '.wgetrc' file specifying directories (or even host-directories). If so, wget in SUSV3.POSTINST will put the download in one place, but the script will not look there -- it will look in $TMPDIR. [Bug 1023984] Re: Ralink wifi problem in dual boot under Ubuntu 12.04
Andreo Blas, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc6 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. [Bug 1251441] Re: [Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T900] Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend
@Christopher M. Penalver: I went to bisect the Ubuntu kernel versions like I mentioned in the last comment, but the problem is present all the way back in the 3.9.0-0.1 kernel (the earliest published version for Saucy AFAICT), and attempting to run any earlier kernels from Raring results in a stretched screen, no working WiFi/USB, and the stylus not working at all. I'm not sure if I am able to proceed and reliably pinpoint exactly where the last good kernel version is given this, unless this is normal. I have not done a bisection before and I am not sure if this means I am doing it correctly. Should I proceed to the next step and start checking out the source via git to build, and aim for revisions before 3.9.0-0.1? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and just provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Re: [Bug 1] Re: Ubuntu desktop is too buggy to gain majority market share
I think this bug should be forked into two because regarding PC/Laptops the bug is IMHO definitely not fixed. Why there should be a difference? - Well, although most people I know do have a smartphone (or two - a private one and a business phone) and maybe also have a tablet, ALL OF THEM do their main computer work with a PC or laptop. You cannot assume that most of the serious computer work is done from an Android phone or tablet. And IMHO that won't be the case for the next years. This bug is widely evident in the PC industry. Steps to repeat: 1. Visit a local PC store. 2. Attempt to buy a machine without any proprietary software. What happens: Almost always, a majority of PCs for sale have Microsoft Windows pre- installed. In the rare cases that they come with a GNU/Linux operating system or no operating system at all, the drivers and BIOS may be proprietary. What should happen: A majority of the PCs for sale should include only free software. Re: [Bug 212588] Re: Does not start
By accident sitting in front of an Ubuntu 12.10 and tried the default freemind 0.9.0 package from the repositories. Looks like my patch is not applied but freemind starts fine. Maybe /usr/lib/java-wrappers/java-wrappers.sh has been changed in the meantime or it is due to the fact that this machine here is a very default installation: /usr/bin/java - /etc/alternatives/java /etc/alternatives/java - /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-i386/jre/bin/java while my machine has several java versions installed (as part of my work is java development) and this is why maybe freemind's way of finding the correct java installation struggles in the case when multiple java versions are available on the machine (did not investigate the java-wrappers.sh in detail). [Bug 1255165] Re: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out
Interesting quote from http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology /report-nsa-intercepts-computer-deliveries/2013/12/29/dc14c3da-70a2-11e3 -bc6b-712d770c3715_story.html?clsrd One of the most striking reported revelations concerned the NSA’s alleged ability to spy on Microsoft Corp.’s crash reports, familiar to many users of the Windows operating system as the dialogue box which pops up when a game freezes or a Word document dies. The reporting system is intended to help Microsoft engineers improve their products and fix bugs, but Der Spiegel said the NSA was also sifting through the reports to help spies break into machines running Windows. One NSA document cited by the magazine appeared to poke fun at Microsoft’s expense, replacing the software giant’s standard error report message with the words: “This information may be intercepted by a foreign sigint (signals intelligence) system to gather detailed information and better exploit your machine.” -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255165 Title: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/whoopsie/+bug/1255165/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
