If I time-shift DVB in Kaffeine it slowly "catches up" to the end of the
time shift. When it reaches the present time it loops back to the start
of the time shift. For example: if I only time shift by 5 seconds then
after 30s Kaffeine will loop back to the point when I started time-
shifting.

I'd expect Kaffeine to continue time-shifting, always staying 5s behind
real-time. At worst, I'd expect it to catch up and then keep playing
from the current time. It should never loop.

Sorry for the noise, had been chasing my tail for a while. Evetually
figured out I needed more the the compiz-plugins-* packages. No idea why
that package went awol overnight but all working now.

Would just delete the above post if possible, but that isn't how bug

[Bug 1334495] Re: Two mixed fonts when rendering Chinese in KDE/QT apps with Droid Sans fonts

2014-07-27 Thread Lukas Bunsen
Hi Gunnar,

sorry for the long delay. A recent update caused a problems on my
Kubuntu installation. I wasn't careful enough in my attempts to repair
and ended up with a broken system.

On the positive side, this means that I can now check if the bug exists in a
fresh installation of Kubuntu 14.04.1...
It does.
The local was mixed again, my hypothesis is that the Kubuntu installer sets
some locale values depending on the timezone you choose? I manually reset all
values to "de_DE.UTF-8" in /etc/default/locale.

I attached three screenshots. The first two are the example text in Kate
and the available fonts in a fresh installation with all updates
installed. The text shows _three_ different "things": First, most
characters are displayed in the normal font. Some few characters, for
example the first one, are displayed in a different, slighty italic
font. Some characters are completely missing, and squares displayed in
their place.

The third screenshot was taken after installing Chinese language support. I
first added Chinese in the KDE language settings, which caused some packages
being installed, for example ibus. But afterwards, the text was still displayed
the same way. I then installed language-selector-gnome. When I s tarted it,
gnome-language-selector was prompting that some language support packages where
missing and offered to install it, among others, fonts-arphic-uming and
fonts-arphic-ukai where installed. I addionally executed "apt-get install
--reinstall fonts-droid".
You see the result after a reboot on the third screenshot. The text looks like
on my old system, the characters only displayed as squares before now use a
italic font to. The italic font changed, I assume it is arphic-ukai. As with
the old installation, the font settings dialog only shows the same few fonts,
and not all of the fonts you have.

I also attached the output of "fc-match -a 'sans-serif'"

[Bug 1240198] Re: Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop

2014-07-27 Thread Carlos Chacon
Hi:

I was experiencing the same issue with my Ubunty Trusty Tahr. A
workaround that worked for me was this:

1- Access the Language Support from the System Settings.
2- Select "None" in the Keyboard input method system (default is IBUS).

I restarted twice and the issue was fixed. Not sure about the potential
consequences of disabling this option though; I found what the IBUS
feature was (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ibus) but did not
understand it completely.

Hopefully this may work for someone else. It'll be appreciate it if
someone with more knowledge can tell me what does this feature do
specifically and if this might affect the computer's behaviour or
functionality.

Regards!

[Bug 1349242] [NEW] fvwm timeout when used as window manager under gnome-session

2014-07-27 Thread Takia Incognovsky
Public bug reported:

Using the exact same startup process as gnome-flashback, just replacing
metacity with fvwm in a renamed copy of /usr/share/gnome-
session/sessions/gnome-flashback.session

fvwm loads right away, but the rest of the session (gnome-panel, etc)
stalls for a full two and a half minutes until, in .xsession-errors:

gnome-session[2536]: WARNING: Application 'fvwm.desktop' failed to register
before timeout
gnome-session[2536]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. Sorry

then everything continues normally, but the delay is intolerable.
Rooting about seems to indicate that the fvwm package may simply need a
recompile against the latest libraries?

Also, boot is on it's own file system. I have roughly 250G free on the
usable hdd. In future installs, I won't separate /boot, but it seemed
logical at the time, and I haven't had an issue since I started using
Ubuntu at 8.10. This is my first encrypted install, and other encrypted
users are experiencing the exact same error.

[Bug 1349234] [NEW] Input still recieved when locked if audio device plugged in

2014-07-27 Thread Keith Hammond
Public bug reported:

If you lock a device while an audio device is plugged in to the audio
port and music is playing, touch events keep getting recieved even
though the device looks non-responsive.

Tried to replicate in various other applications (browser with youtube-
video, media-player with music video) but they don't seem to be
affected, so this may be specific to the core music app.

Easily replicateable on my nexus 4:
open music app
play any song
lock phone
touch screen
unlock
wah laa.

[Bug 1349172] Re: "/boot full" error, even after emptying. Encrypted hdd.

2014-07-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Sometimes GUI environments don't delete files when you delete them,
instead it moves them someplace else, making it far harder to find the
files to remove.

I suggest looking through ls -la /boot/ output to look for potentially
hidden files. If /boot isn't on its own filesystem you may need to look
elsewhere for a way to free up some space. It might be best to head to
IRC for help so you can get some interactive advice.

Thanks

[Bug 1349082] Re: qmail installing problem

2014-07-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1348914] Re: performance problem with gnome-shell and xorg with firefox extension

2014-07-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2014-07-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1348883

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your
bug report.  Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1167079] Re: some GTK widgets have black backgrounds

2014-07-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1349231] [NEW] Sensor APIs do not work

2014-07-27 Thread XiaoGuo, Liu
Public bug reported:

 OrientationSensor {
onReadingChanged: {
if ( reading.orientation === OrientationReading.TopUp) {
console.log("TopUp")
} else if ( reading.orientation === OrientationReading.TopDown)
{
console.log("TopDown")
} else if ( reading.orientation === OrientationReading.LeftUp) {
console.log("LeftUp")
} else if ( reading.orientation === OrientationReading.RightUp)
{
console.log("RightUp")
} else if ( reading.orientation ===
OrientationReading.FaceDown) {
console.log("FaceDown")
}  else if ( reading.orientation === OrientationReading.FaceUp)
{
console.log("FaceUp")
}
}
}

The "FaceDown" and "FaceUp" events are never fired. Also

   AmbientLightSensor {
active: true
onReadingChanged: {
if (reading.lightLevel === AmbientLightReading.Dark) {
console.log("It is dark")
}  else if ( reading.lightLevel ===
AmbientLightReading.Twilight) {
console.log("It is moderately dark")
} else if ( reading.lightLevel === AmbientLightReading.Light) {
console.log("It is light (eg. internal lights)")
} else if ( reading.lightLevel === AmbientLightReading.Bright) {
console.log("It is bright (eg. shade)")
} else if ( reading.lightLevel === AmbientLightReading.Sunny) {
console.log("It is very bright (eg. direct sunlight)")
}else if ( reading.lightLevel ===
AmbientLightReading.Undefined) {
console.log("It is unknown")
}
}
}

Only "AmbientLightReading.Light" is fired no matter how the ambient
light environment is changed.

Thanks & best regards,
XiaoGuo

[Bug 1339998] Re: [Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme 7204] Microphone mute key does not work

2014-07-27 Thread Hui Wang
Please do the test under ubuntu-14.04 as below:

generate a file named 60-dell-mic-mute-hotkey.hwdb and place the file at
/etc/udev/hwdb.d/

add the content below into the 60-dell-mic-mute-hotkey.hwdb:
# Dell platform kernel driver
keyboard:name:Dell WMI hotkeys:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnDell*:pn*
 KEYBOARD_KEY_150=f20   # Mic mute toggle

Then run the command below to update the udev database:
sudo udevadm hwdb -u

then re-test mic mute function on this machine or use showkey -k to test

This should fix the mic mute hotkey problem, but it can't help to fix the mic
mute led problem, to fix mic mute led problem, it needs kernel driver
modification. Let's look at if the above fix can fix the hotkey problem or not.

[Bug 1338412] Re: [HP Pavilion Slimline 400] HIGH failures found in fwts klog test

2014-07-27 Thread Alex Hung
This is a common error and I quote Ivan's analysis on a private bug:
=
More detail information,
This is caused by the wmi driver(hp-wmi.c) brings the input data 160bits
struct bios_args {

CreateByteField (Arg1, 0x12, D010)
CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, 0x0400, D128) --- 128 bytes
.
 }

the error occurred because the mismatch between the 4bytes "data" provided, but
the firmware 128 bytes "D128" used.
checking with the HP wmi spec, several wmi command type used input date 128
bytes (such as type 36h, Set Peak Shift Times, type 37h Set Battery Charging
Times). But this is not used by the hp-wmi.c. It is not reasonable to
CreateField for 128bytes at the method beginning, in stead, it should be
createfielded while it is used.
So I suggest the firmware should move the
CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, 0x0400, D128)
into the place that D128 is used, such as the type 36h, 37h.

[Bug 1338412] Re: [HP Pavilion Slimline 400] HIGH failures found in fwts klog test

2014-07-27 Thread Alex Hung
This needs to be fixed in BIOS, but it is difficult, if not impossible,
to get HP's attention to fix after product shipment. Fortunately, very
few hp-wmi functions are used with kernel 3.13, and we probably will not
see any failure except the the error messages.

Having say that, we still try harder to get HP's attention when this is
in development cycle instead of "won't fix" it. I will try to figure how
we can improve this.

You can also

nmap localhost

And look for port 5900 --- that's another way to tell if vino-server is
running properly.

vino-preferences also has a bug because it doesn't report that the
server is not running. It should have a "start server" button if it's

[Bug 1341387] Re: Opening foodnetwork.ca website crashes xserver

2014-07-27 Thread Sean Fitzpatrick
Seems to be a font issue: the crash always happens as the page tries to
load objects from fonts.smdg.ca. I considered blocking smdg.ca with
NoScript but the site becomes unusable. Could this be a duplicate of Bug
#738526? I always get an X crash the first time I load the page after
reboot. If it just kicks me to the login screen I can try again and it
works. A few times the crash has been bad enough that I end up at a
blinking cursor instead of the login screen and I reboot with Ctrl-Alt-
Del. If I go back to the website after a reboot, X crashes again.

[Bug 1335659] Re: [Acer Aspire 5734Z] suspend/resume failure [non-free: wl]

2014-07-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alan, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you
please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the
top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc6

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1338404] Re: bbswitch: fails to find ACPI handle for discrete card

2014-07-27 Thread hamish
probable reason for confusion:

The X/Config/HybridGraphics page in the Ubuntu Wiki does not define what
"hybrid"
means, and indicates that nvidia-prime is the right thing to use for multihead
workstations with both integrated and discrete video, at least by my reading of
the introduction.
...
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/HybridGraphics

specifically the "Hardware Requirements" section, which could be
interpreded as covering desktop setups as well.

[Bug 1349208] [NEW] New version of firefox crashes upon opening

2014-07-27 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

Well, I still have the problem that when I try to install a newer version than
28.0.xxx, Firefox never finishes loading up my windows and tabs and crashes ==>
is unusable, but this time is different from 29 and 30.
In versions 29 and 30, it opens up all my windows, is brings up some or all of
my tabs, and then disappears and the Crash Report window appears.
In 31, only one window appears, with many tabs all labelled "new", and then
just sits there.
I click on a tab, a window appears, and then the ubuntu window appears that
says the window "Mozilla Firefox" does not seem to be responding" and gives me
the option to kill the process or not.

Oh wait a minute - I tried a second time, and after the single window with
"new" tabs appears, after a bit the tabs get names, it tries to open up the
other windows and crashes to the Crash Report window, as before with 29 and 30.
[Each time with the Restore Previous Session window to start]

I'll try a third time, to see if anything different happens...

Nope, just like #2 - I do note that NOT all of the windows were opened
before FF disappears and the Crash Report window appears.

Back to 28.  Again.

[Bug 1310023] Re: 14.04: Nvidia Prime is unable to switch to the Nvidia card

2014-07-27 Thread hamish
strangely a custom symlink for nvidia_drv.so in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/
and changing
  sudo update-alternatives --config x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf
from nouveau to nvidia-331 kept on being undone in the filesystem. Quite
unexpected for
those changes to undo themselves. ?!

Anyway, after removing the nvidia-prime and bbswitch packages from my system
that's no
longer happening, so I guess I can blame them. :)

I still don't have multi-head working but at least the nvidia driver is found
in Xorg.0.log now, so
I guess the rest is up to me, xorg.conf, and Xinerama or modern equivalent, and
I can stop
spamming this ticket.

regards

[Bug 1293384] Re: Compiz CPU usage dramatically increased in Ubuntu 14.04

2014-07-27 Thread Duke
Not a power user here, but I know when my machine is stammering while
silent. System monitor revealed 45% cpu usage idling on the desktop.
Moving cursor pushes it to 100%. Ran 11.4 previously, but support ran
out and things started to fall apart. 14.04 is only OS on drive that ran
11.4 and xp pretty well. Celeron M 1.7ghz. (Old inspiron 600m) 2gb ddr2
333mhz. If my registering this helps escalate the issue I have surpassed
my stature in geekdom.

[Bug 1349180] Re: Updating repositories caused crash

2014-07-27 Thread Stephen Michael Kellat
Okay, was your networking actually active when you attempted your
previous action? Failure to find security.ubuntu.com is not necessarily
a problem with the release upgrader package but potentially a glitch in
your networking beyond the individual computer.

[Bug 1292118] Re: virtualbox-dkms 4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.6: virtualbox kernel module failed to build [error: incompatible types when returning type ‘kuid_t’ but ‘RTUID’ was expected]

2014-07-27 Thread Jørn
Hi again

Something came up.

I did fix it as described above,- but:

I use wireless network to my Ubuntu,- and bridged network setup in the
virtualbox options for the VM hosts.

When I ping something from the terminal, now I get duplicate answers?

Very strange, and it must be in connection with the repair described as
above.

I will look further into it tomorrow.

B.R.
Jørn

[Bug 1349193] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.38-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-07-27 Thread Weedy101
Public bug reported:

I had mysql 5.5 installed and working fine, then I received a notice
that I did not understand about my system no longer being fully
supported and asking me to update. This caused a kernal file update
which failed. Since than I have not been able to get my mysql server to
start. As a last resort I tried un-installing the server and all other
mysql components and then re-installing it again. The un-install
appeared to be fine, but I cannot install the meta package that installs
the required components again. I get the above error every time.
