[Bug 1289961] Re: 8086:08b2 [Lenovo ThinkPad T440s] Power management causes Intel wifi 7260 slowness

2015-03-06 Thread Francois Thirioux
I do not know if the issue still exists in Trusty LTS...
If so, it should be useful to backport a solution but I even do not know if it
is possible (last firmwares are 3.17+ compatible).

[Bug 1416186] Re: [drm:radeon_acpi_init] *ERROR* Cannot find a backlight controller

2015-03-06 Thread Jonathan Brier
Tested with the daily-live from March 6, 2015 as well as the
image+updates all booting from a live USB as suggested in comment 4.
The backlight error still appears in dmesg -l err.

The backlight controls work upon boot and I haven't noticed any losses
of control. I haven't tracked down the reproducable pattern either.

Was fehlt denn da?
Wieso soll ich fsck starten und das gibt dann eine Warnung raus, es besser zu

Gibt es noch andere Optionen zu fsck, mit denen ich das aufrufe?

Thanks for help

[Bug 1425662] Re: "apt-get download" fails if /var/cache/apt/archives/partial is not accessible

2015-03-06 Thread Sworddragon
After another test it seems that "apt-get download" doesn't use an
advantage from the caches (partial and non-partial) as this example
shows:

root@ubuntu:~/tmp# apt-get install adwaita-icon-theme-full --reinstall

I'm wondering why "apt-get download" does then depend on the cache. Or maybe
"apt-get download" could be enhanced to use advantages of the caches and
fallback to use no cache if something went wrong.

[Bug 1028682] Re: precise uec builds eat 100% cpu on launch, check-apt and rsyslogd

2015-03-06 Thread Ross Gammon
Thanks for reporting this. It is quite an old bug now, and probably did not get
any attention because it was not assigned to a package.
Having said that, I am not sure which is the right package to assign this bug
to. Therefore I am assigning it to cloud-init, as I found a similar type of bug
where this was done. If it is the wrong package, then hopefully someone looking
at cloud-init bugs will have a better idea where to assign it so that it is
followed up.

Also, as it is so old, perhaps the problem was fixed/went away in the
meantime? Do you still see this problem?

That's all because cdrecord does not automatically format
BD-R before writing. (Neither do libburn based programs
like xfburn, cdrskin, or xorriso.)

You can achieve the same effect with growisofs by option
  -use-the-force-luke=spare:none

In previous versions of K3B there was a menu to set
options for backend programs ... "Setup External Programs",
"User Parameters".

> Basically growisofs is useless for BD-R.

Ah no. I am a competitor of growisofs, but would not say
that. Actually growisofs has more clue about the MMC
aspects of BD media than cdrecord.

It's just that Andy wanted to be smart with auto-formatting
and regrettably quit maintaining of growisofs before he
could iron out the consequential bugs.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas

[Bug 363695] Re: update-apt-xapian-index uses too much CPU and memory

2015-03-06 Thread Paul Nicholson
My 12.04.5 LTS occasionally grinds to a halt with login nearly
impossible. Finally I caught this remote embedded 256Mbyte system in
the act and found update-apt-xapi had driven the machine well into swap.
Hopefully apt-get remove apt-xapian-index will prevent this happening
again until this long-standing defect is fixed. Perhaps mmap its big
RAM data to /tmp/something and put in a substantial sleep in its main
loop.

[Bug 1429125] Re: can't install testdisk unmet dependencies libntfs-3g852

2015-03-06 Thread Jean-Pierre
> When I manually install
> ntfs-3g_2014.2.15AR.2-1_amd64.deb
> everything works fine and i can install testdisk

But ntfs-3g_2014.2.15AR.2 is buggy. Upgrading to ntfs-3g_2014.2.15AR.3
is recommended.

> testdisk : Depends: libntfs-3g852

This means testdisk was compiled for using ntfs-3g_2014.2.15AR.2. If you
compiled it yourself, just recompile after installing ntfs-3g_2014.2.15AR.3
(including its associated devel package). Otherwise you can just symlink
libntfs-3g852 to libntfs-3g853. Usually they are in /lib64 or /usr/lib64, with
a so suffix. This would be something like :
sudo ln -s libntfs-3.so.853 /lib64/libntfs-3.so.852

[Bug 1314924] Re: Adressbox Entries unreadable: Grey/Black Mask overlaying text

2015-03-06 Thread Christopher Chavez
I apologize, I didn't mean to boss anyone around. I'm not in charge, nor am I a
maintainer or triager, I am just another user. Please don't take this as
representative of the ubuntu community.
I talked briefly with a maintainer of xserver-xorg-video-intel, and they
suggested the procedure for incorporating the necessary fixes for this issue in
the non HWE release. Based on the response to Freedesktop#79165, it didn't seem
to be obvious which patch this is, however.
Cf. http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2015/02/26/%23ubuntu-x.html :
| [20:51] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates is the
procedure
| [20:51] bit of paperwork + making a fixed package
Unfortunately I will not be able to assist with this issue any further.

10.3.2-0ubuntu1~trusty2 amd64 is '10.3.2-0ubuntu1' not '10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3'.

  [Test Case]
  >sudo aptitude install libosmesa6
The following NEW packages will be installed:
    libglapi-mesa{a} libosmesa6
0 packages upgraded, 2 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1,009 kB of archives. After unpacking 3,682 kB will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   xserver-xorg-lts-utopic : Conflicts: libglapi-mesa (>= 0~) but
10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3 is to be installed.
   libglapi-mesa-lts-utopic : Conflicts: libglapi-mesa but 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3 is
to be installed.

  [Possible solution]
Include utopic's libosmesa(-dev) in the LTS enablement stack, so versions
match.

  [Reverse dependencies]
  libosmesa6-dev
  desmume
  crossover
  wine recommends libosmesa6

[Bug 1318865] Re: The grub boot menu is often not drawn or visible

2015-03-06 Thread Christopher Chavez
Thanks for the follow up. I apologize, it indeed was not my intent to
expire the bug but rather to bring attention to it. I'm not a maintainer
or triager, just another user here, so I'll go ahead and reopen it as
New; I may not be able to assist with this issue further. Probably the
only thing I would try is using grub-customizer as a matter of
convenience and possibly (though not necessarily) safety.

Public bug reported:

The current completion def file for service command does not include
completion for upstart jobs though the command as stated in man handles
both sysv init scripts and upstart jobs. Here I include a patch to fix
this. Please consider merging it into zsh-common package

** Affects: zsh (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1424059] Re: Failure to build osmesa will prevent some apps from being installed

2015-03-06 Thread Tholl1989
libosmesa6/trusty-updates 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3 amd64 can't be installed
because it depends on libglapi-mesa (= 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3), but libglapi-
mesa-lts-utopic/trusty-updates,trusty-security 10.3.2-0ubuntu1~trusty2
amd64 is 10.3.2-0ubuntu1 not 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3.

So utopic's libosmesa6 needs to be backported to match the new
libglapi-mesa.

[Bug 1429312] Re: package linux-image-generic-pae 3.2.0.77.91 failed to install/upgrade: vereistenproblemen - blijft ongeconfigureerd

2015-03-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1374782] Re: OpenVPN interactively asks for a password in an init script

2015-03-06 Thread Dan Mick
This also affects me, and I don't see any easy workaround. Trusty used
upstream 2.3.2, but turned off "enable-systemd"; Utopic turns it on, and
that makes openvpn execute systemd-ask-password, but with stdin set to
/dev/null, whcih makes it pretty hard to interact with.

It seems to me that openvpn auth-user-pass mode is broken on Utopic with
no easy workaround.

[Bug 1424215] Re: growisofs BD-R overflow error despite capacity check

2015-03-06 Thread Federico Tello Gentile
It is not that simple.
The same burn that failed with growisofs here

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/utopic/+source/dvd+rw-
tools/+bug/1113679/comments/13

finishes correctly with cdrecord.

Both burns where done with K3B in the same system. K3b can use any of
growisofs or cdrecord. I used 2 blank BD-R from the same spindle and
burned exacly the same 3 files into them.

I have burned ~ 50 BD-R using K3B with cdrecord and they all burn
flawlessly at 4X (1 GB/s). K3B using growisofs (besides never burning
correctly), burns at 2X (and reports it as 4X) while keeping the
burner's hardware buffer below 50%.

K3B with drecord keeps is at 97+% all the time while burning.

Basically growisofs is useless for BD-R. CDrecord should be the default
or at least an easy to use option. Right now (and since BD-R where
invented) you need to add a PPA and use K3B to actually burn BD-R.

[Bug 1429251] Re: [Acer Aspire V5-473P] Touchpad Doesn't recognize buttons as separate from touch surface

2015-03-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1271281 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1271281

** Description changed:

- Original bug:
-
Note that this is advertised as a multi-touch pad. However, using two
fingers stops the mouse movement. This report is not referring the
absence of muli-touch. It is referring to a problem with regular
touchpad usage caused by this problem.

  Problem:
The touch pad includes a touch surface and buttons (beneath) all on one touch
surface. The entire touch surface can be depressed to click the mouse. The
buttons are an extension of the surface and can also be depressed to click the
mouse. They are separated into right and left areas. The buttons are
functioning for left and right clicks, however, the software is not
differentiating between the buttons and the touch surface for pointer movement.
Sliding your finger on the buttons results in the pointer moving on screen.
Therefore, when resting your finger on the left or right mouse button (as when
preparing to highlight text) you cannot use your other finger to move the
pointer because the dual input causes the pointer to stop.

  What I expected to happen:
The Touch pad should allow you to rest your finger (without depressing) on
the right mouse button while still being able to move the mouse pointer.

[Bug 1421746] Re: Enabling HWE Stack in precise broke my system

2015-03-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bib, as per the readme for your nvidia card's driver
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/96.43.20/README/appendix-b.html
the nvidia 96.x series driver supports xorg up to 1.10. As xorg-server-
lts-trusty is using xorg 1.15, it is incompatible with the nvidia
driver.

Hence, if you want to continue using the nvidia 96.x series driver, you
will have to use the original xorg and kernel stack as outlined in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack .

Otherwise, you will need to use nouveau.

Please feel free to report any future bugs you may find.
