[Bug 1390061] Re: bash-completion tilde expansion every time
I checked my Ubuntu 14.04 machine and the problem is not solved yet. Run this command: strace bash -c ". /etc/bash_completion; quote_readline '/something'; echo" 2>&1 | grep /etc/passwd When the problem is solved you should get no output and now you get this output: open("/etc/passwd", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 3 The output indicates that it tries to expand the ~ and this is not what was intended and if some kind of network authentication is used it will cause long delays... sometimes more then 10 seconds... so this is a serious problem. [Bug 1464517] [NEW] cairo-dock-data is missing a dependency on gnome-settings-daemon
Public bug reported: /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/cairo-dock.session lists gnome- settings-daemon (on trusty; may be unity-settings-daemon for some releases of Ubuntu) as a required component. This is a real requirement: when gnome-session-bin is installed but gnome-settings-daemon isn't, attempts to log in to a cairo-dock desktop session fail with the following messages in .xsession-errors: gnome-session[17624]: WARNING: Unable to find required component 'gnome-settings-daemon' gnome-session[17624]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. Sorry Installing gnome-settings-daemon is sufficient to cure this symptom. That makes me think that cairo-dock-data (which provides cairo- dock.session) ought to have an explicit Depends: gnome-settings-daemon (or possibly a Recommends:, but definitely nothing less than that). I see that cairo-dock-core has a Recommends: gnome-session | , but that's so likely to be satisfied by one of the other choices to be almost useless. A survey of my trusty desktops indicates that systems upgraded from precise have gnome-session installed but fresh trusty installs only have gnome-session-bin. gnome-session depends on gnome-settings-daemon but gnome-session-bin does not. ** Affects: cairo-dock (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1464517 Title: cairo-dock-data is missing a dependency on gnome-settings-daemon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cairo-dock/+bug/1464517/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1464494] [NEW] Gluster mount using volfile-bak fails on boot
Public bug reported: Consider that we have a fstab entry that uses both volfile-server and backupvolfile-server in a Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Server: mygluster:/mydir /var/mydir glusterfs defaults,nobootwait,nofail,_netdev,backupvolfile-server=mygluster-bak 0 0 If the host mygluster is accessible at boot time, the mount works with success. However, if mygluster is offline (because a DNS error, for example) and mygluster-bak is online, the mount fails at boot time. The bug only occurs at boot time. After the boot, if we run 'mount /var/mydir', the mount will work using the mygluster-bak server as expected. ## How to reproduce Put the following entry in your fstab: non-existent:/mydir /var/mydir glusterfs defaults,nobootwait,nofail,_netdev,backupvolfile-server=mygluster-bak 0 0 Mount the system and check that the mount worked with success: $ mount /var/mydir; mount | grep mydir; umount non-existent:/mydir on /var/mydir type fuse.glusterfs (rw,default_permissions,allow_other,max_read=131072) Now, reboot your system some times and check that sometimes the mount has failed. At this moment, run 'mount /var/mydir' and successfully mount the filesystem. $ mount | grep mydir $ mount /var/mydir; mount | grep mydir non-existent:/mydir on /var/mydir type fuse.glusterfs (rw,default_permissions,allow_other,max_read=131072) ### Logs The boot.log, dmesg, mountall and the gluster logfile (var-lib-glance- images.log, at my specific case) will be attached (each one in a separate comment because of https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/82652). However, the only log that really helps is the gluster logfile, with entries like: [glusterfsd.c:1910:main] 0-/usr/sbin/glusterfs: Started running /usr/sbin/glusterfs version 3.4.2 (/usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=non-existent /var/mydir) [name.c:249:af_inet_client_get_remote_sockaddr] 0-glusterfs: DNS resolution failed on host non-existent [fuse-bridge.c:5260:fini] 0-fuse: Unmounting '/var/mydir'. [glusterfsd.c:1910:main] 0-/usr/sbin/glusterfs: Started running /usr/sbin/glusterfs version 3.4.2 (/usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=mygluster-bak /var/mydir) [fuse-bridge.c:5016:init] 0-fuse: Mountpoint /var/mydir seems to have a stale mount, run 'umount /var/mydir' and try again. [xlator.c:390:xlator_init] 0-fuse: Initialization of volume 'fuse' failed, review your volfile again ## Log analyses and debugging The "Mountpoint /var/mydir seems to have a stale mount, run 'umount /var/mydir' and try again" log helps a lot. I've changed the /sbin/mount.glusterfs script to increase verbosity and discovered some more useful info: - At first, mount.glusterfs runs: /usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=non-existent /var/mydir - After, it runs 'stat -c %i /var/mydir' to test if the inode is one (mount successful at this mount point) or another number. In a normal mount try (running 'mount /var/mydir' after the boot), this step returns a large number like 4198417. However, during the boot, it returns no output and prints the following error to stderr: **stat: cannot stat ‘/var/mydir’: Transport endpoint is not connected**; - In a second moment, mount.glusterfs runs: /usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=mygluster-bak /var/mydir; - Again, it runs 'stat -c %i /var/mydir' and got the error **Transport endpoint is not connected**; - At the end, mount.glusterfs prints "Mount failed. Please check the log file for more details.", runs "umount /var/mydir" and exits with status 1. So, I have done some tests to got more info about the "Transport endpoint is not connected" error and I discovered that it occurs for a very shot time after a mount error. It's possible to got this error at any time. The following command will sometimes reproduce this error (it's sporadic): $ /usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=non-existent /var/mydir; stat -c %i /var/mydir 4198417 $ /usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=non-existent /var/mydir; stat -c %i /var/mydir stat: cannot stat ‘/var/mydir’: Transport endpoint is not connected To get more debug info yet, I've modified the script mount.glusterfs again to run 'fuser -m /var/mydir' after the first 'stat' / "Transport endpoint is not connected" to get any PIDs using the filesystem and got: $ fuser -m /var/mydir: 1 371 1280 1758 2287 2503 $ ps -ww -up 1 371 1280 1758 2287 2503: USER PID %CPU %MEMVSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 1 16.8 0.0 34156 3532 ?Ss 16:36 0:04 /sbin/init root 371 0.1 0.0 20132 976 ?S16:36 0:00 @sbin/plymouthd --mode=boot --attach-to-session --pid-file=/run/initramfs/plymouth.pid statd 1280 0.0 0.0 21540 1396 ?Ss 16:36 0:00 rpc.statd -L syslog1758 0.0 0.0 255840 1216 ?Ssl 16:3

[Bug 1236831] Re: Disks - benchmark pops error - Error opening /dev/sdb: Device or resource busy (udisks-error-quark, 0)
I have marked that this bug affects me, but I have also somehow resolved this issue for my machine. Steps I took which resulted in the bug: 1. Plug in new Western Digital My Passport Ultra into USB 3.0 port (running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS). 2. Use Disks utility to prepare for benchmark test. 3. Attempt to start benchmark, receive error. Steps I took between getting the error and not getting the error: 1. Unplug same Western Digital hard drive from USB 3.0 port. 2. Plug in same Western Digital hard drive into adjacent USB 2.0 port. 3. Use Disks utility to prepare for benchmark test. 4. Attempt to start benchmark. Success. 5. Plug in same Western Digital hard drive into previously used USB 3.0 port. 6. Use Disks utility to prepare for benchmark test. 7. Attempt to start benchmark. Success. I would like to believe something special happened when I plugged the hard drive into the USB 2.0 port that was not happening with the USB 3.0 port, however, maybe it was necessary that the hard drive go through an extra power cycle. Hope this helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236831 Title: Disks - benchmark pops error - Error opening /dev/sdb: Device or resource busy (udisks-error-quark, 0) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1236831/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1346269] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots)
Can confirm. I have had this issue on every *buntu distro I've tried, including elementary OS Luna which was based on 12.04. I've tried the acpi=force etc in grub, updated grub, reinstalled grub, updated BIOS, tried the 'echo on' to usb devices. None have solved the issue. At first it was intermittent and less frequent if the power cord was plugged in. After a year it happens every time no matter which distro I'm using or method I use to shutdown. To shutdown I go into the GRUB command line with 'c' when the grub menu comes up, and use the 'halt' command. I have to do this one more time and then the computer shuts off. If I then restart the computer with the power button, and then shutdown at the login screen, it shuts down. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad, an Intel i5 chip and I dont know which graphics card but can provide any outputs of commands. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1346269 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1346269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1463836] Re: 4.0 kernel build failure on ppc64el
Okay, had a long talk with mpee and benh on IRC, where a few things came out of it: 1) This is absolutely an upstream kernel bug. 2) This code probably doesn't work on anything newer than a G5 *anyway*, even if they fix that one line. Given those two points, the conclusion we came to is that we should disable CONFIG_HIBERNATION for ppc64el, and they'll backburner an item to some day see if they can make hibernation work on modern POWER CPUs, but no one sees that as critical. I did a testbuild on ppc64el with CONFIG_HIBERNATION=n, and that worked fine, so that's what we should do for now. ** Package changed: binutils (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: Matthias Klose (doko) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - 4.0 kernel build failure on ppc64el + Disable CONFIG_HIBERNATION on ppc64el -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1463836 Title: Disable CONFIG_HIBERNATION on ppc64el To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1463836/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
