[Bug 1390061] Re: bash-completion tilde expansion every time

2015-06-11 Thread Ove Risberg
I checked my Ubuntu 14.04 machine and the problem is not solved yet.

Run this command:
strace bash -c ". /etc/bash_completion; quote_readline '/something'; echo" 2>&1
| grep /etc/passwd

When the problem is solved you should get no output and now you get this output:
open("/etc/passwd", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 3

The output indicates that it tries to expand the ~ and this is not what
was intended and if some kind of network authentication is used it will
cause long delays... sometimes more then 10 seconds... so this is a
serious problem.

Please apply the patch I provided 7 months ago when I reported this
problem or test the fix they did upstream.

[Bug 1448269] Re: qemu guest hangs on nested kvm startup with host kernel oops

2015-06-11 Thread Stefan Kooman
I had this issue (kernel oops) when I explicitly disabled "ignore_msrs"
(Ubuntu Trusty, 3.13.0-54-generic):

cat /etc/modprobe.d/qemu-system-x86.conf
options kvm-intel nested=y ept=y
options kvm ignore_msrs=1

Removing the option "kvm ignore_msrs=1" made the guest (L2) run but give
a "KVM: entry failed, hardware error 0x7" when the L1 guest (guest
hypervisor) was booted with these cpu flags (libvirt):

 x86_64 Nehalem Intel

Guest VM (L2) running fine with these cpu flags (libvirt) for guest VM
(L1):

Nehalem

@Serge Hallyn: I wonder what cpu parameters you have defined for your L1
guest (guest hypervisor)

[Bug 1453738] Re: Keeps asking for cryptswap password when booting (LVM + encrypted home dir)

2015-06-11 Thread Martin Pitt
@danny: thanks, so this confirms the issue. Please either drop
/etc/crypttab if you want to keep the unencrypted swap, or drop
/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-swap from /etc/fstab and uncomment
#/dev/mapper/cryptswap1. You can't have both. Do you still know how you
set that up? In particular, whether you wrote /etc/fstab in that way, or
it was set up by some tool? Thanks!

** Summary changed:

- Keeps asking for cryptswap password when booting (LVM + encrypted home dir)
+ Keeps asking for cryptswap password with using the same swap partition
encrypted and unencrypted

[Bug 1464517] [NEW] cairo-dock-data is missing a dependency on gnome-settings-daemon

2015-06-11 Thread Sergio Gelato
Public bug reported:

/usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/cairo-dock.session lists gnome-
settings-daemon (on trusty; may be unity-settings-daemon for some
releases of Ubuntu) as a required component. This is a real requirement:
when gnome-session-bin is installed but gnome-settings-daemon isn't,
attempts to log in to a cairo-dock desktop session fail with the
following messages in .xsession-errors:

gnome-session[17624]: WARNING: Unable to find required component
'gnome-settings-daemon'
gnome-session[17624]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. Sorry

Installing gnome-settings-daemon is sufficient to cure this symptom.
That makes me think that cairo-dock-data (which provides cairo-
dock.session) ought to have an explicit Depends: gnome-settings-daemon
(or possibly a Recommends:, but definitely nothing less than that).

I see that cairo-dock-core has a Recommends: gnome-session | , but that's so likely to be satisfied by one of the other choices
to be almost useless. A survey of my trusty desktops indicates that
systems upgraded from precise have gnome-session installed but fresh
trusty installs only have gnome-session-bin. gnome-session depends on
gnome-settings-daemon but gnome-session-bin does not.

** Affects: cairo-dock (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1067434] Re: Sound output device keeps changing when using headphones

2015-06-11 Thread Duncan-jacob-mk
Just posting to say That I still have this problem, I'm running the
newest linux mint KDE. I don't have pulse audio installed. I had to plug
my main sound into the headphone jack. (it's on top of my case, works
for me)

>uname -a
Linux -desktop 3.13.0-37-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 22 21:28:38 UTC
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Well looking at the above output I guess i'm still using a 2014-sep
build.

>lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description:Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca

So I'm not sure if this is the most recent version or not...

[Bug 1464514] [NEW] xrandr 1.4.1 doesn't set external display position correctly when using --right-of to scaled laptop display

2015-06-11 Thread Markus Paaso
Public bug reported:

I have 15" laptop with 3840x2160 display resolution and external monitor
with 2560x1440 resolution.

Expected:
I want to scale laptop screen (DP-4) resolution with 0.5x0.5 and set the
external display (DP-6) to right of the laptop display.
So I would like to have laptop display with resolution 1920x1080 and position
0x0 and external display with resolution 2560x1440 and position 1920x0

Happened:
When I use command: xrandr --output DP-4 --auto --scale 0.5x0.5 --output DP-6
--auto --right-of DP-4
the result is:

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 6400 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384
VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-4 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
346mm x 194mm
   3840x2160 60.0*+ 48.0
DP-5 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-6 connected 2560x1440+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
518mm x 324mm
   2560x1440 60.0*+
   1280x1024 75.0 60.0
   1280x960 60.0
   1280x800 59.8
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0
   800x60075.0 72.2 60.3 56.2
   640x48075.0 72.8 59.9

So the external display position is set to 3840x0 instead of expected
1920x0.

$ xrandr -v
xrandr program version 1.4.1
Server reports RandR version 1.4

When I try command: xrandr --output DP-4 --auto --scale 0.5x0.5 --output DP-6
--auto --pos 1920x0
the external monitor is disabled and the output of the command is:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize)
Serial number of failed request: 47
Current serial number in output stream: 49

Only way I have found to place screens correctly is to use NVIDIA X Server
Settings app.
After that command xrandr gives the expected info:

Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 4480 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384
VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-4 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
346mm x 194mm
   3840x2160 60.0*+ 48.0
DP-5 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-6 connected 2560x1440+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
518mm x 324mm
   2560x1440 60.0*+
   1280x1024 75.0 60.0
   1280x960 60.0
   1280x800 59.8
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0
   800x60075.0 72.2 60.3 56.2
   640x48075.0 72.8 59.9

But I don't want to use NVIDIA X Server Settings each time to set the
display positions.

My laptop is Dell Precision M4800 with Nvidia Quadro K2100M and HiDPI screen.
OS: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Driver: nvidia-352

Same problem here. I've just installed kubuntu on a new laptop. After removing

likely end up with a black , useless :-( desktop again.
I also tried to add the kubuntu-backport repo but same problem.

I checked the diff, and the generic "match all HP devices" rule was

"matches on HP USB hub" problem. The sed'ing is also gone. Thanks!

[Bug 1461174] Re: Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be [10ec:b723] WiFi has an issue

2015-06-11 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi,
as this bug is affecting many different platforms, I don't think it's a BIOS
issue.

Verified on 201403-14879 - HP 355 G2 Notebook PC, with 14.04.2 stock image
installed
The RTL8723BE wireless card is very unstable, it can connect to the Internet at
the very beginning.
But stop working after a few minutes (still connected), the "mtr ubuntu.com"
command shows the packet loss rate is over 90% in 4000 packets.

wireless-regdb (2014.11.18-1ubuntu1) wily; urgency=medium

  * Resynchronise with Debian. LP: #1284093

- Replace REGDB_AUTHOR with the ubuntu-devel-discuss@ list, to create
our own private key for signing the regulatory data.
- Explicitly override dh_auto_build to make a new private key.
- Don't remove pubkeys, to make sure the key can be verified; but still
  remove /lib/crda/pubkeys/linville.key.pub.pem since that conflicts
  with crda.
- debian/patches/dont_auto_create_keypair: Drop the tilde from the key

[Bug 1464507] [NEW] Up/Down arrows discard cursor position in Leadpad 0.8.18.1

2015-06-11 Thread Stephan Sokolow
Public bug reported:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a document large enough to be scrollable
2. Click to place the cursor
3. Scroll away
4. Tap ↑↓

Expected behaviour:
The window should snap back to a scroll position containing the place which the
cursor was left at

Actual behaviour:
The cursor appears at the top/bottom of the current scroll position

The only other text editor I've ever seen with this bug/misfeature is
Vim, which has it as a side-effect of visibly dragging the cursor along
as you scroll.

I don't want to have to choose between...
1. Retraining my muscle memory to use ←→
2. Keeping an old Leafpad build around
3. Maintaining my own fixed fork of Leafpad
4. Putting up with the extra bulk of Mousepad for uses where a programmer's
text editor is unnecessary... especially when I'm shrinking it down to a tiny
square (below the size Mousepad's longer menu allows) for use as a
taskbar-visible sticky note.

[Bug 1440388] Re: please port ubuntu-system-service to Python3

2015-06-11 Thread Didier Roche
I don't think this was the case, I did a build+dogfooding on all
packages that I ported to python3 at the time, still weird that
DistUtilsExtra thingy as I remember to have fiddle with dependencies.

I'll probably look at that later on.

basically the difference here is apt packages not being up to date and
months of changes get to become a long list.

I am sure this can be an automated build process where a virtualbox vm

[Bug 1464494] [NEW] Gluster mount using volfile-bak fails on boot

2015-06-11 Thread Rarylson Freitas
Public bug reported:

Consider that we have a fstab entry that uses both volfile-server and
backupvolfile-server in a Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Server:

mygluster:/mydir /var/mydir glusterfs
defaults,nobootwait,nofail,_netdev,backupvolfile-server=mygluster-bak 0
0

If the host mygluster is accessible at boot time, the mount works with
success. However, if mygluster is offline (because a DNS error, for
example) and mygluster-bak is online, the mount fails at boot time.

The bug only occurs at boot time. After the boot, if we run 'mount
/var/mydir', the mount will work using the mygluster-bak server as
expected.

## How to reproduce

Put the following entry in your fstab:

non-existent:/mydir /var/mydir glusterfs
defaults,nobootwait,nofail,_netdev,backupvolfile-server=mygluster-bak 0
0

Mount the system and check that the mount worked with success:

$ mount /var/mydir; mount | grep mydir; umount
non-existent:/mydir on /var/mydir type fuse.glusterfs
(rw,default_permissions,allow_other,max_read=131072)

Now, reboot your system some times and check that sometimes the mount
has failed. At this moment, run 'mount /var/mydir' and successfully
mount the filesystem.

$ mount | grep mydir
$ mount /var/mydir; mount | grep mydir
non-existent:/mydir on /var/mydir type fuse.glusterfs
(rw,default_permissions,allow_other,max_read=131072)

### Logs

The boot.log, dmesg, mountall and the gluster logfile (var-lib-glance-
images.log, at my specific case) will be attached (each one in a
separate comment because of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/82652).

However, the only log that really helps is the gluster logfile, with
entries like:

[glusterfsd.c:1910:main] 0-/usr/sbin/glusterfs: Started running
/usr/sbin/glusterfs version 3.4.2 (/usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir
--volfile-server=non-existent /var/mydir)
[name.c:249:af_inet_client_get_remote_sockaddr] 0-glusterfs: DNS resolution
failed on host non-existent
[fuse-bridge.c:5260:fini] 0-fuse: Unmounting '/var/mydir'.
[glusterfsd.c:1910:main] 0-/usr/sbin/glusterfs: Started running
/usr/sbin/glusterfs version 3.4.2 (/usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir
--volfile-server=mygluster-bak /var/mydir)
[fuse-bridge.c:5016:init] 0-fuse: Mountpoint /var/mydir seems to have a
stale mount, run 'umount /var/mydir' and try again.
[xlator.c:390:xlator_init] 0-fuse: Initialization of volume 'fuse' failed,
review your volfile again

## Log analyses and debugging

The "Mountpoint /var/mydir seems to have a stale mount, run 'umount
/var/mydir' and try again" log helps a lot.

I've changed the /sbin/mount.glusterfs script to increase verbosity and
discovered some more useful info:

- At first, mount.glusterfs runs: /usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir
--volfile-server=non-existent /var/mydir
- After, it runs 'stat -c %i /var/mydir' to test if the inode is one (mount
successful at this mount point) or another number. In a normal mount try
(running 'mount /var/mydir' after the boot), this step returns a large number
like 4198417. However, during the boot, it returns no output and prints the
following error to stderr: **stat: cannot stat ‘/var/mydir’: Transport endpoint
is not connected**;
- In a second moment, mount.glusterfs runs: /usr/sbin/glusterfs
--volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=mygluster-bak /var/mydir;
- Again, it runs 'stat -c %i /var/mydir' and got the error **Transport endpoint
is not connected**;
- At the end, mount.glusterfs prints "Mount failed. Please check the log file
for more details.", runs "umount /var/mydir" and exits with status 1.

So, I have done some tests to got more info about the "Transport
endpoint is not connected" error and I discovered that it occurs for a
very shot time after a mount error. It's possible to got this error at
any time. The following command will sometimes reproduce this error
(it's sporadic):

$ /usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=non-existent
/var/mydir; stat -c %i /var/mydir
4198417
$ /usr/sbin/glusterfs --volfile-id=/mydir --volfile-server=non-existent
/var/mydir; stat -c %i /var/mydir
stat: cannot stat ‘/var/mydir’: Transport endpoint is not connected

To get more debug info yet, I've modified the script mount.glusterfs
again to run 'fuser -m /var/mydir' after the first 'stat' / "Transport
endpoint is not connected" to get any PIDs using the filesystem and
got:

$ fuser -m /var/mydir:
 1 371 1280 1758 2287 2503
$ ps -ww -up 1 371 1280 1758 2287 2503:

[Bug 1236831] Re: Disks - benchmark pops error - Error opening /dev/sdb: Device or resource busy (udisks-error-quark, 0)

2015-06-11 Thread Alex Ordonez
I have marked that this bug affects me, but I have also somehow resolved
this issue for my machine.

Steps I took which resulted in the bug:

1. Plug in new Western Digital My Passport Ultra into USB 3.0 port (running
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS).
2. Use Disks utility to prepare for benchmark test.
3. Attempt to start benchmark, receive error.

Steps I took between getting the error and not getting the error:

1. Unplug same Western Digital hard drive from USB 3.0 port.
2. Plug in same Western Digital hard drive into adjacent USB 2.0 port.
3. Use Disks utility to prepare for benchmark test.
4. Attempt to start benchmark. Success.
5. Plug in same Western Digital hard drive into previously used USB 3.0 port.
6. Use Disks utility to prepare for benchmark test.
7. Attempt to start benchmark. Success.

I would like to believe something special happened when I plugged the
hard drive into the USB 2.0 port that was not happening with the USB 3.0
port, however, maybe it was necessary that the hard drive go through an
extra power cycle.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 1346269] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots)

2015-06-11 Thread Sam Osborn
Can confirm.

I have had this issue on every *buntu distro I've tried, including elementary
OS Luna which was based on 12.04.
I've tried the acpi=force etc in grub, updated grub, reinstalled grub, updated
BIOS, tried the 'echo on' to usb devices. None have solved the issue. At first
it was intermittent and less frequent if the power cord was plugged in. After a
year it happens every time no matter which distro I'm using or method I use to
shutdown.
To shutdown I go into the GRUB command line with 'c' when the grub menu comes
up, and use the 'halt' command. I have to do this one more time and then the
computer shuts off. If I then restart the computer with the power button, and
then shutdown at the login screen, it shuts down.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad, an Intel i5 chip and I dont know which
graphics card but can provide any outputs of commands.

[Bug 1440373] Re: please build a python3-zeitgeist package and let zeitgeist depend on it

2015-06-11 Thread Robert Ancell
This turns out to be quite simple. libzeitgeist-2.0-0 has Recommends:
zeitgeist | zeitgeist-core. If we switch these around we should avoid
pulling in the metapackage that pulls in python-zeitgeist (which nothing
uses). We already have Python 3 support by using the GIR package.

[Bug 1463836] Re: 4.0 kernel build failure on ppc64el

2015-06-11 Thread Adam Conrad
Okay, had a long talk with mpee and benh on IRC, where a few things came
out of it:

1) This is absolutely an upstream kernel bug.
2) This code probably doesn't work on anything newer than a G5 *anyway*, even
if they fix that one line.

Given those two points, the conclusion we came to is that we should
disable CONFIG_HIBERNATION for ppc64el, and they'll backburner an item
to some day see if they can make hibernation work on modern POWER CPUs,
but no one sees that as critical.

I did a testbuild on ppc64el with CONFIG_HIBERNATION=n, and that worked
fine, so that's what we should do for now.

Also, given the conclusion that CONFIG_HIBERNATION won't work on newer
CPUs, it's probably worth backporting the CONFIG_HIBERNATION=n change to
SRU kernels as well, before someone decides to try to use it and files a
bug that it doesn't work.
