[Bug 1584501] Re: at (at-3.1.18-2ubuntu1) doesn't seem to be working correctly

2016-05-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1584501/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1584522] [NEW] Don't show GNOME Books by default

2016-05-22 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

I think the "Books" app included in GNOME is so incomplete that it
would be better to set NoDisplay=True for it.

What happens when you launch GNOME Books
===

Books opens, showing you the .cbr, .cbz, .djvu, .mobi, .epub files it
finds in your tracker-searched folders.

The only file type it lets you actually view though is .cbr and .cbz
(which are usually used for comic books). For everything else, it
displays an uphelpful error message:

https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-
documents/commit/?id=9c5cf3e98c15c17736bacda1aa2eea9458cbf4ce

Since the evince "Document Viewer" can also display .cbr and .cbz files
just fine, GNOME Books is redundant.

Worse, "Books" implies that it will let you read commonly used ebook
formats such as .epub or .mobi but it cannot.

GNOME Books development is slow. The initial Books feature is a year and
a half old and the "coming soon" message is a year old.

https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-documents/log/?qt=grep=books

Once Books gets epub support, we should probably show the Books app
again. You can follow the progress of that effort at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=740971

[Bug 1584520] [NEW] mdadm ignores "--force" switch on Intel Fake Raid

2016-05-22 Thread Anatoly Zapadinsky
Public bug reported:

I have an old system that is supplied with an Intel Option ROM that does
not support > 2tb hard drives. Linux works perfectly on this system and
see hard drives bigger than 2tb though. I want to create a raid with
imsm metadata format and attach it to another system later. mdadm dosn't
let me do this. I try to force raid creating using the "--force" option
but it is ignored.

#mdadm --version
mdadm - v3.3 - 3rd September 2013

#mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md/imsm --level=5 --raid-devices=3 /dev/sd[b-d]
--metadata=imsm --force
mdmon: Cannot create this array on device /dev/sdb
mdadm: /dev/sdb is not suitable for this array.
mdmon: Cannot create this array on device /dev/sdc
mdadm: /dev/sdc is not suitable for this array.
mdmon: Cannot create this array on device /dev/sdd
mdadm: /dev/sdd is not suitable for this array.
mdadm: create aborted

It seems that it also block one from creating imsm metadata raids on AMD
platform or in a virtual machine of any type. Why? Why mdadm control
user? The "--force" switch is made for this. Ignore the Option ROM
version and create the raid! Its a fake raid after all.

[Bug 1581890] Re: Boot registers protocol family 40, which is not in configs

2016-05-22 Thread Blair Houghton
(In reply to comment #2 above)

I do not recall that this was seen immediately after an update. The
machine has been running 14.04 (upgraded from 12.04) almost since 14.04
was released.

The anomaly was noticed only by chance; I was browsing the logs for
other information and simply happened to get curious about that
particular line, then discovered just how curious the line was on its
own.

I can not run alternate configurations or test kernels on this
installation without destabilizing the system configuration beyond my
risk tolerance.

However, what I might be able to do is set up another VM and install
another instance of 14.04 and then test it with the Mainline kernel. But
I don't know enough about selecting versions to know if I'm getting the
14.04 that should exhibit the problem (is there only one rev of 14.04?
if not, which should I start with to best replicate what I have now? to
what level of update? Is that determinable from the data I've already
uploaded?). Could you take a look and post a link to the proper Ubuntu
config that I can use as a baseline in a clean VM, and then I'll see if
the bug is there, and if it is, then I'll use the link you have provided
to check the mainline kernel also.

  already tried:

  installing intel's proprietary drivers: speeded up things a bit, still
  didnt solve that kernel panic.

  installing the following kernels:

  ubuntu mainline ->

  drm-next
  intel-drm-next
  daily

  speeded things up a bit more, didnt solve the problem though.

  may you please look into it.

[Bug 1584509] [NEW] CD-R's not mounted in latest kernel

2016-05-22 Thread Karl Lindheimer
Public bug reported:

This bug affects both the X64 and X32 bit versions of the latest ubuntu
16.04 it does not occur with ubuntu 15.10 or earlier. The problem is
when a known good CD-R is placed in the drive, it is not mounted
automatically. However, if it is a bootable CD-R and you select the
boot option of the BIOS it will function normally.

Also, When a blank CD-R is inserted into the drive, it is mounted
automatically, but disk creation software reports an erroneous amount of
free space available. Such as 247 MB or 512 MB when the disk is a 700
MB disk. However, if you proceed to record to the disk, even with an
ISO image greater than the supposed available capacity, it records just
fine.

Other disk types such as DVD, audio, small cd-r work fine. This only
seems to affect the larger, full size cd-r's

[Bug 1584407] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS --> Kernal --> ACPI Errors: Namespace lookup failure and 1 table load failures

2016-05-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
SunBear, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170M-
PLUS/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy, insecure,
and outdated BIOS is available (1803). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1535714] Re: i915 freeze

2016-05-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Daniel Walton, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report Status Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1584500] [NEW] sound settings window extends beyond screen boundaries

2016-05-22 Thread hife
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
unity-control-center version: 14.04.3+14.04.20150916-0ubuntu1

When a large number of items appear in the "applications" tab in the
sound settings window, the window will automatically resized to fit all
of them, even if that means exceeding the size of the screen. This
creates inconvenience not only in navigating said list, but also in any
other tab of the window, as some buttons will be off-screen.

Expected behaviour: The window should not extend beyond screen size.

This problem is more general in nature, as it can happen with any part of the
system settings, if a list becomes to long.
(In general the constantly resizing system settings window feels quite
inconsistent to me.)

[Bug 1537209] Re: Kernel doesn't load after kubuntu upgrade (from 15.04 to 15.10)

2016-05-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Renato S. Yamane, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 4.4 to 4.6 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this good commit has been
identified, it may be reviewed for backporting. Could you please do this
following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

After the fix commit (not kernel version) has been identified, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1584501] [NEW] at (at-3.1.18-2ubuntu1) doesn't seem to be working correctly

2016-05-22 Thread Tommy McGuire
Public bug reported:

The at.allow man page says,

> If /etc/at.allow does not exist, /etc/at.deny is checked, every
username not mentioned in it is then allowed to use at.

/etc/at.allow does not exist, and my username is not listed in at.deny

$ ls -l /etc/at.*
-rw-r- 1 root bin 144 May 16  2011 /etc/at.deny
$ sudo grep mcguire /etc/at.deny

However, at is reporting that I do not have permission:

$ at teatime tomorrow
You do not have permission to use at.

If I add /etc/at.allow with my username in it, I get a permission denied
error creating the job file:

$ ls -l /etc/at.*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root   8 May 22 12:33 /etc/at.allow
-rw-r- 1 root bin  144 May 16  2011 /etc/at.deny
$ sudo grep mcguire /etc/at.*
/etc/at.allow:mcguire
$ at teatime tomorrow
warning: commands will be executed using /bin/sh
Cannot create atjob file /var/spool/cron/atjobs/a7017452ec: Permission

This is with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

The package is at 3.1.18-2ubuntu1 (Launchpad does not allow me to enter
'at' as a package search.)

[Bug 1584407] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS --> Kernal --> ACPI Errors: Namespace lookup failure and 1 table load failures

2016-05-22 Thread SunBear
I executed instructions 1 to 3 of https://01.org/linux-acpi/utilities in
an attempt to understand the failure msg mentioned above. The generated
files from instructions 1 to 3 are attached. SSDT 2,3,4 & 6 were
dissembled with reference to DSDT, e.g. $ iasl -e dsdt.dat -d ssdt2.dat,
and DSDT.dat was dissembled with reference to SSDT*.dat.

My findings:

1. from acpidump.out, SB_PCI0XHC_RHUBHS11 is refer to in the 5th SSDT table.
  0340: 88 55 48 53 44 0A 09 00 0A 0A 10 3C 5C 2F 05 5F  .UHSD..<\/._
  0350: 53 42 5F 50 43 49 30 58 48 43 5F 52 48 55 42 48  SB_PCI0XHC_RHUBH
  0360: 53 31 31 14 0C 5F 55 50 43 00 A4 47 55 50 43 01  S11.._UPC..GUPC.
  0370: 14 16 5F 50 4C 44 00 A4 47 50 4C 44 83 88 55 48  .._PLD..GPLD..UH
  0380: 53 44 0A 0A 00 0A 0B 10 3C 5C 2F 05 5F 53 42 5F  SD..<\/._SB_

2.From SSDT5.dat, this file contains instructions for INTEL Table ID
"xh_rvp08". It seems to be instructions for all \_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB devices.
Specifically for \_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.HS11, it is to return information
concerning the USB Port Capabilities _UPC and Physical Location of Device _PLD
(details of these is given in
http://www.acpi.info/DOWNLOADS/ACPI_5_Errata%20A.pdf) :
Scope (\_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.HS11)
{
Method (_UPC, 0, NotSerialized) // _UPC: USB Port Capabilities
{
Return (GUPC (One))
}

Method (_PLD, 0, NotSerialized) // _PLD: Physical Location of Device
{
Return (GPLD (DerefOf (UHSD [0x0A]), 0x0B))
}
}

3. During $ iasl -e ssdt*.dat -d dsdt.dat, the resulting file dsdt.dsl warned:
 * iASL Warning: There were 19 external control methods found during
 * disassembly, but only 10 were resolved (9 unresolved).
   I tried $ iasl -e ssdt*.dat facp.dat -d dsdt.dat, because facp.dat was the
only other aml type file provided by acpidump, by this command created a lot
ACPI ERRORs and finally resulted in "Segmentation fault (core dumped)".
   There is a command to cause the objects defined in HS11 to be created
relative to a new location _SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB in the namespace under certain
condition.
If (PCHV () == SPTH)
{
Scope (_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB)
{
Device (HS11)
{
Name (_ADR, 0x0B) // _ADR: Address
}

4. "$ iasl -sa dsdt.dsl" reported 3 errors.

[Bug 1583728] Re: OVMF not starting if logical host CPUs current allocation is more than 1

2016-05-22 Thread Gannet
** Description changed:

+ After creating VM through virt-manager with OVMF booting only black
+ screen I can see when starting it.

- Interesting, but if create VM for ubuntu16.04 tianocore starts well. So
- it seems windows 8.1 created configuration conflicts with ovmf for some

[Bug 606365] Re: unable to import config with inlined ca, cert, key or tls-auth

2016-05-22 Thread Kestrell
I tried #66 & #68, I made sure there were no '#' in the .ovpn file and I don't
have this line in the config:
route x.x.x.0 255.255.255.255 net_gateway

I still get the same error:
The file 'vpn.ovpn' could not be read or does not contain recognized VPN
connection information

Error: the plugin does not support import capability.

[Bug 1534948] Re: Ubuntu 15.10 fails to boot from Sandisk USB stick

2016-05-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Daro, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/latitude-e5420/drivers?os=biosa an update to your
computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (A14). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1579918] Re: Smart Card Reader BCM 5880 with kernel 4.2

2016-05-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Karl Hill, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?

[Bug 1500094] Re: Asus UX303LB: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-05-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Nuno, to clarify, what release are you now using, given 15.04 is EOL as
per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases?

[Bug 1576953] Re: 8086:153a e1000e driver failed with error -3

2016-05-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

  When I switch on my laptop, running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS amd64, it will
  boot and load e1000e, but no eth* interface is present. Even repeated
  rmmod and modprobe don't bring up the interface. After a reboot (i.e. no
  fresh power-up) it works just fine. After the next power-cycle the
  problem is there again. Laptop is a Clevo W130SV, network card is Intel
  I217-LM (rev 05).

- Same symptoms as in
