[Bug 1584501] Re: at (at-3.1.18-2ubuntu1) doesn't seem to be working correctly
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1584501/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1584522] [NEW] Don't show GNOME Books by default
Public bug reported: I think the "Books" app included in GNOME is so incomplete that it would be better to set NoDisplay=True for it. What happens when you launch GNOME Books === Books opens, showing you the .cbr, .cbz, .djvu, .mobi, .epub files it finds in your tracker-searched folders. The only file type it lets you actually view though is .cbr and .cbz (which are usually used for comic books). For everything else, it displays an uphelpful error message: https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome- documents/commit/?id=9c5cf3e98c15c17736bacda1aa2eea9458cbf4ce Since the evince "Document Viewer" can also display .cbr and .cbz files just fine, GNOME Books is redundant. Worse, "Books" implies that it will let you read commonly used ebook formats such as .epub or .mobi but it cannot. GNOME Books development is slow. The initial Books feature is a year and a half old and the "coming soon" message is a year old. https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-documents/log/?qt=grep=books Once Books gets epub support, we should probably show the Books app again. [Bug 1581890] Re: Boot registers protocol family 40, which is not in configs
(In reply to comment #2 above) I do not recall that this was seen immediately after an update. The machine has been running 14.04 (upgraded from 12.04) almost since 14.04 was released. The anomaly was noticed only by chance; I was browsing the logs for other information and simply happened to get curious about that particular line, then discovered just how curious the line was on its own. I can not run alternate configurations or test kernels on this installation without destabilizing the system configuration beyond my risk tolerance. However, what I might be able to do is set up another VM and install another instance of 14.04 and then test it with the Mainline kernel. But I don't know enough about selecting versions to know if I'm getting the 14.04 that should exhibit the problem (is there only one rev of 14.04? if not, which should I start with to best replicate what I have now? to what level of update? Is that determinable from the data I've already uploaded?). Could you take a look and post a link to the proper Ubuntu config that I can use as a baseline in a clean VM, and then I'll see if the bug is there, and if it is, then I'll use the link you have provided to check the mainline kernel also. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581890 Title: Boot registers protocol family 40, which is not in configs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1581890/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1584509] [NEW] CD-R's not mounted in latest kernel
Public bug reported: This bug affects both the X64 and X32 bit versions of the latest ubuntu 16.04 it does not occur with ubuntu 15.10 or earlier. The problem is when a known good CD-R is placed in the drive, it is not mounted automatically. However, if it is a bootable CD-R and you select the boot option of the BIOS it will function normally. Also, When a blank CD-R is inserted into the drive, it is mounted automatically, but disk creation software reports an erroneous amount of free space available. Such as 247 MB or 512 MB when the disk is a 700 MB disk. However, if you proceed to record to the disk, even with an ISO image greater than the supposed available capacity, it records just fine. Other disk types such as DVD, audio, small cd-r work fine. This only seems to affect the larger, full size cd-r's ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-22-generic 4.4.0-22.40 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-22.40-generic 4.4.8 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-22-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: karl 1886 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: karl 1886 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun May 22 14:38:13 2016 GvfsMonitorLog: Monitoring events. For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. [Bug 1535714] Re: i915 freeze
Daniel Walton, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind the following: 1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder). 2) The release names are irrelevant. 3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was released upstream. 4) Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report Status Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 1584407] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS --> Kernal --> ACPI Errors: Namespace lookup failure and 1 table load failures
I executed instructions 1 to 3 of https://01.org/linux-acpi/utilities in an attempt to understand the failure msg mentioned above. The generated files from instructions 1 to 3 are attached. SSDT 2,3,4 & 6 were dissembled with reference to DSDT, e.g. $ iasl -e dsdt.dat -d ssdt2.dat, and DSDT.dat was dissembled with reference to SSDT*.dat. My findings: 1. from acpidump.out, SB_PCI0XHC_RHUBHS11 is refer to in the 5th SSDT table. 0340: 88 55 48 53 44 0A 09 00 0A 0A 10 3C 5C 2F 05 5F .UHSD..<\/._ 0350: 53 42 5F 50 43 49 30 58 48 43 5F 52 48 55 42 48 SB_PCI0XHC_RHUBH 0360: 53 31 31 14 0C 5F 55 50 43 00 A4 47 55 50 43 01 S11.._UPC..GUPC. 0370: 14 16 5F 50 4C 44 00 A4 47 50 4C 44 83 88 55 48 .._PLD..GPLD..UH 0380: 53 44 0A 0A 00 0A 0B 10 3C 5C 2F 05 5F 53 42 5F SD..<\/._SB_ 2.From SSDT5.dat, this file contains instructions for INTEL Table ID "xh_rvp08". It seems to be instructions for all \_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB devices. Specifically for \_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.HS11, it is to return information concerning the USB Port Capabilities _UPC and Physical Location of Device _PLD (details of these is given in http://www.acpi.info/DOWNLOADS/ACPI_5_Errata%20A.pdf) : Scope (\_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.HS11) { Method (_UPC, 0, NotSerialized) // _UPC: USB Port Capabilities { Return (GUPC (One)) } Method (_PLD, 0, NotSerialized) // _PLD: Physical Location of Device { Return (GPLD (DerefOf (UHSD [0x0A]), 0x0B)) } } 3. During $ iasl -e ssdt*.dat -d dsdt.dat, the resulting file dsdt.dsl warned: * iASL Warning: There were 19 external control methods found during * disassembly, but only 10 were resolved (9 unresolved). I tried $ iasl -e ssdt*.dat facp.dat -d dsdt.dat, because facp.dat was the only other aml type file provided by acpidump, by this command created a lot ACPI ERRORs and finally resulted in "Segmentation fault (core dumped)". Daro, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/latitude-e5420/drivers?os=biosa an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (A14). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. [Bug 1579918] Re: Smart Card Reader BCM 5880 with kernel 4.2
Karl Hill, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Thank you for your understanding. ** Description changed: Native to Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 (kernel 4.2.0) on Dell Precision 7510 with Broadcom 5880 (internal card reader). Nuno, to clarify, what release are you now using, given 15.04 is EOL as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases? ** Tags removed: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-4.3-rc3 ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-4.6 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1500094 Title: Asus UX303LB: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1500094/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1576953] Re: 8086:153a e1000e driver failed with error -3
** Description changed: When I switch on my laptop, running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS amd64, it will boot and load e1000e, but no eth* interface is present. Even repeated rmmod and modprobe don't bring up the interface. After a reboot (i.e. no fresh power-up) it works just fine. After the next power-cycle the problem is there again.
