[Bug 1716587] [NEW] Holding shift while booting disables password input

2017-09-11 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

The first character of my password may start with a shifted character.
When booting, one might expect to save time by having the shift key
already pressed down, but when the password prompt to unlock the
partition appears, the keyboard seems to no longer work unless the
system is rebooted.

[Bug 902548] Re: apt: add option to compress files in /var/lib/apt/lists

2017-09-11 Thread SIDDHARTH
Though this is not a bug,i like this idea as it could save some
diskspace. I once had 700 mb of database cache as I never knew that with
every update i.e "sudo apt update",the database would get updated and
sync and just dump the new one.Never ever the old and not needed would
still exist as memory hog. Though now days I clean the cache aka "sudo
apt clean" every week.

The process could be like apt first gets the new update, then as soon as
it reaches 99% it compress the copy in a file named apt_[date:time].zip.
Then it would perform any additional task if required. When every thing
is over it would remove the uncompressed files(flat file).

[Bug 1562333] Re: iptstate assert failure: *** Error in `iptstate': munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer: 0x000000000193c990 ***

2017-09-11 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The issue you are facing is [1].
It is easy enough of a backport to try to help you quickly by preparing a
debdiff (and more) rather fast.

In 2.2.6 there were a few more minor changes and reworks on the doc and on a
variable naming.
But still for the SRU process we should only backport what is needed.

There are two fixes directly for this issue. Further fixes are not stricly
needed for the SRU as
e.g. [2] can be achieved by just adding -L on your own. Likewise for [3] that
can be avoided by enabling counters via -C.

That said there is clearly no workaround for [1] so the backport should include
[4]+[5].
Since zesty is already on 2.2.6 and Trusty working due to the older compiler
only Xenial is needed.

I have a test build in [6], please try that - if you can confirm it
works we can push forward to add an SRU Template to the bug and get
review of the change by the SRU Team [7].

[Bug 1418777] Re: cannot connect to WPA and WPA-2 enterprise network

2017-09-11 Thread SIDDHARTH
The problem as I have faced earlier is due to unsupported protocols in
the earlier version though now you can simply connect to it. Make sure
your device is registered with your campus as their server checks all
the connection mac address to connect and authorize the user. Chances
are you didnt do this. They will provide you with your user name and
password needed to login to their networks.

[Bug 1667113] Re: System users appears in Ligthdm and user switcher (Accountsservice has no filter for shell types)

2017-09-11 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
KDE and Gnome seem to not have the issue in general (To admit - I didn't try
myself the Gnome case yet), so in Artful it might be resolved by the switch to
Gnome.
I didn't hear from the Desktop Team yet about accountsservice getting a fix.

Also for now there is a workaround in [1]
If this gets no attention for a (more correct and preferred general solution by
the desktop Team) we might add that in a libvirt update, but as it is a
symptomatic fix only I'd prefer the other solution.
And in turn all the affected packages would have to get such a fix (probably
even more and in general as users could add "hidden-shell" type users on their
own - and those shouldn't be displayed as well.

The main failure here is
An error was returned while trying to install the kernel into the
target system.
Kernel package: 'linux-generic'.

But yes, 'Continue' from there sometimes yields the Packages.xz corrupt
issue. That is not reproducible all the time, but 50% of time.

Thanks,

2017-09-11 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for your report.

I cannot reproduce your issue. If you can, can you please provide all the steps
to do it.
Besides I noticed the following error message in yor log files:
Sep 12 00:34:50 ubuntu-mate kernel: [ 975.913476] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Sep 12 00:34:50 ubuntu-mate kernel: [ 975.913486] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x711a8b0

Sep 12 00:34:50 ubuntu-mate kernel: [ 975.915607] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x711a8b0

Which suggest that the installation media is corrupted and is more
likely te cause of the failure you observed.

2017-09-11 Thread madbiologist
I thought the GeForce GTX 1060 didn't support VDPAU at all. Anyway, as
discussed at the links in comment #4, VDPAU doesn't support 10bit HEVC.
I recommend that you use NVDEC (either by passing the NVDEC flag or the
CUDA flag to mpv or ffmpeg). FFMpeg has support for NVDEC, mpv added
NVDEC support in November 2016, and GStreamer added support in June
2017.

[Bug 1673548] Re: evolution-ews changes the from field to invalid@invalid

2017-09-11 Thread Corey Seliger
Ubuntu 16.04.3 here.

I can confirm this issue with Amazon WorkMail. I ran Evolution with
EWS_DEBUG=2 and dumped out the transaction between the client and AWS.
The transaction itself is successful. However, if you un-MIME the actual
message being sent, you will notice in the headers:

From:

(Literally, the from field is blank.)

I wiped my Evolution configuration and started from scratch and yielded
the same result. I also have an EWS account configured with Exchange
2013 and have been using it successfully.

I have attached three files that demonstrate the situation:

debug.log - The dump of the interchange between AWS and Evolution
soap_post.xml - The prettied up version of the POST sent to AWS containing the
message payload
mime_decode.txt - The decoded message as contained within the MimeContent field
in the XML

I am happy to provide more information; let me know what is needed.

[Bug 1713751] Re: soft lockup / stall on CPU when shutting down with hwe 4.10 kernel

2017-09-11 Thread Michael Pardee
The problem still occurs without a separate /tmp partition. Still
experiencing the failure on Ubuntu linux-image-4.10.0-33-generic while

[Bug 1716432] Re: With dash to dock enabled, title in window is not centred aligned to clock when the window is maximised

2017-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed... but maybe not a bug?

It's a good thing that the window title is always centred. In fact it
might look weird at lower resolutions if that wasn't true. The user
would notice the lack of symmetry.

I think the real bug here is that intelli-hide is not enabled, IMHO :)

[Bug 1716028] Re: qemu 2.10 locks images with no feature flag

2017-09-11 Thread Scott Moser
Kevin,
Thanks for the suggestion of share-rw=on. I figured I'd try to change our
'xkvm' wrapper around qemu to use that.

Unfortunately, it looks like , at least in our version of qemu (QEMU emulator
version 2.10.0(Debian 1:2.10+dfsg-0ubuntu1)), that this does not work
with the -drive path.

$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 disk1.img 1G
$ qemu-system-x86_64 \
   -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=net00 \
   -netdev type=user,id=net00 \
   -drive id=drive01,file=disk1.img,format=qcow2,share-rw=on \
   -device drive=drive01,serial=sn-drive01,driver=virtio-blk,index=1 \
   -device drive=drive01,serial=sn-drive01,driver=virtio-blk,index=2
qemu-system-x86_64: -drive id=drive01,file=disk1.img,format=qcow2,share-rw=on:
Block format 'qcow2' does not support the option 'share-rw'

I had thought you were suggesting the above, right?

[Bug 1716359] Re: Unplugging headset with audio panel open mutes internal mic

2017-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've tried three different Dells today and can't reproduce any such
problem. The internal mic always restores correctly and working.

Tried both 17.10 and 16.04 but it sounds like you mean Unity where the
dialog is "Unknown Audio Device". So that's either 16.04 or 17.04.

And no I don't recall related bug reports.

[Bug 1357093] Re: Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or Encrypted installation or on any installation, when /boot partition gets full

2017-09-11 Thread Ben Norris
This bug has just hosed a system I installed for my parents. An
unattended-upgrader that breaks your system if you don't attend to it IS
broken.

Having known about this problem for many years, the least you could have
done is added a warning to the installer that choosing lvm or encryption
will make a system that breaks itself.

The idea that novice users can just run script workarounds is entirely
unrealistic.
a) They don't know about the problem if they haven't been told (burying it deep
in the manuals or text that whizzes by is not good enough)
b) from a security PoV they shouldn't be run anything they cut & paste in

The general attitude to a major showstopper that is causing a lot of
pain for novice users shown in this bug is frankly appalling and I'm
pretty much inclined to ditch Ubuntu because of it.

[Bug 1712858] Re: system freezes occasionally for several minutes

2017-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This sounds like it might be the pulseaudio process getting stuck in a
system call that's particular to your sound hardware/driver. Please try
running 'lspci -k' and pasting the output here.

Also, the problem might not be audio-related at all. It might be some
other part of your kernel that's hanging and pulseaudio is just
mentioned in the syslog because it's the only one with realtime threads.
That doesn't mean those threads caused the problem necessarily.

Please also try the latest live image (just boot from USB and leave it running
for a while):

[Bug 1716281] Re: Not installing

2017-09-11 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1716246] Re: i dont know whats going on

2017-09-11 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!
