[Bug 1888619] [NEW] [Satellite A200, Realtek ALC268, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all
Public bug reported: In the past I had sound (crackling, but working). After some editing of the alsa configuration I managed to get the correct sound. Then, when updating to version 18 uf Ubuntu LTS, it disappeared, and all my attempts to mess with configuration files to restore it failed. [Bug 1878596] Re: [Ubuntu 20.04] - Install - problem
After all I think I'm coming to the same conclusion like Thorsten (#18). The ECKD DASD driver should just be able to handle all ECKD DASD type 3390 disks of any flavour, incl. 3390-ModA EAV and EAV-II DASDs. There is no further dependency. Since a brand new disk device was used (#20), I assume that the low- level format of the disk (using dasdfmt) could be the missing bit. It either couldn't be found and triggered in the UI or wasn't possible (for whatever reason). May I suggest the following (to prove if this assumption is correct or not): 1) could you redo the installation (again with a brand new disk, that was not yet low-level formatted with dasdfmt), ideally using the updated focal daily live image, available here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/focal/daily-live/current/ a) that image will later become the 20.04.1 image b) that image will not require a parmfile anymore - if there is no parmfile with the basic network config given, an early component of the installer will just ask about the basic network info interactively in the console 2) start the installation until you reach the initial subiquity text-based UI screen, but do not proceed there, and just hit 'F2' (or F1 for Help and the 'Enter shell') to reach the installer shell. (One of the big advantages of the new installer is that you are now already in a full-fledged live system.) a) find the disk you are going to use with 'lszdev' b) enable that disk manually with 'chzdev -e ' c) check with 'lszdev' or 'lsdasd' the assigned block device name (highly likely 'dasda') d) manually low-level format that disk with 'dasdfmt --disk_layout=cdl -b 4096 /dev/dasda' [ e) optionally create a partition using 'fdasd -a /dev/dasda' ] Then I think it's easiest (even if a bit annoying) to restart the installation from scratch, but now proceed with the subiquity text-based UI. If you are now able to complete the installation, it indicates that we need to look at the dasdfmt portion of the installer, if you still struggle to complete the installation, please post the issues here - ideally including the content of /var/log and (in case not empty) /var/crash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878596 Title: [Ubuntu 20.04] - Install - problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1878596/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1888616] [NEW] Please "add WIP: winbindd: handle "NT Authority"" patch into Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Samba
Public bug reported: I'm running couple of AD servers on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS using the stock Samba version found from Ubuntu's repositories: https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic-updates/samba There's one quite critical bug in Winbind that messes up almost all NT Authority\xxx user and group mappings and it's been fixed for over one year now in the mainstream Samba: https://gitlab.com/samba- team/devel/samba/-/commit/a0309d9e7c283c8c6ee25a067695571c93d26313#3e088ca6181fe0ec57ad73b496eb4ed4a99a5dc3 That particular bug causes SysVol replication between two domain servers go wrong. All permissions regarding NT Authority\xxx users and groups are not mapped correctly and this causes that the GPO permissions go wrong which could lead to situation where computers fetching GPOs are not able to fetch them or they can fetch GPOs that aren't meant for them. I've tested to compile the samba (2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.17) from Ubuntu's sources but applying that patch found from the link I provided: Then the bug is gone and SysVol replication using rsync (-XAavz flags) works properly and all NT Authority\xxx users and groups are mapped correctly: Before the patch applied: root@server:~# wbinfo --group-info='NT AUTHORITY\system' failed to call wbcGetgrnam: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND Could not get info for group NT AUTHORITY\system root@server:~# getent group 'NT AUTHORITY\system (returns nothing, exit code: 2) After the patch is applied: root@server:~# wbinfo --group-info='NT AUTHORITY\system' NT AUTHORITY\system:x:314: root@server:~# getent group 'NT AUTHORITY\system' NT AUTHORITY\system:x:314: So could you please add that patch to the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS version of Samba? ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888616 Title: Please "add WIP: winbindd: handle "NT Authority"" patch into Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Samba To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1888616/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1861941] Re: bcache by-uuid links disappear after mounting bcache0
About blkid fix: Ryan has explained carefully how to obtain FS UUID from the backing device at: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/16317#issuecomment-655574875 and about bcache-export-cached wrapper he created for simulating CACHED_UUID and CACHED_LABEL (at 69-bcache.rules) and to create /dev/bcache/{by-uuid,by-label}/{CACHED_UUID,CACHED_LABEL} symlinks. He explained that having /dev/bcache/{by-uuid,by-label} is mandatory to maintain same names for multiple bcache'd environments over reboots. Currently, with the bcache-export-cached fix applied, it is *not* mandatory to have systemd-udev fix to correctly create bcache symlinks (or not) at /dev/disk/{by-uuid,by-label}: libblkid could have more information regarding bcache backing devices, but judging by upstream developers disposition they don't seem too worried about having that feature since ID_FS_TYPE=bcache is already provided. (So, having /dev/disk/by-uuid/XXX pointing to bcache backing devices would continue happening...) Summary: Having the bcache-tools fix is enough for this bug (LP: #1861941) and there could be changes to systemd-udev (I doubt judging by discussions at https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/16317), or libblkid, that could provide more information regarding bcache device types. If those changes happen, we would need to revisit this bug. IMHO, I like the "skip_bcache_fs_type" approach done by Ryan to systemd-udev. I'll maintain that as a delta to udev until https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/16317 is fixed (if ever). So, for now, PPA contains fix for bcache-tools for Groovy and Focal (and will for Bionic) and that is enough to make /dev/bcache/XXX to work and be stable after reboots. I'll keep the udev fix for Groovy and SRU that fix for Focal and Bionic and upload to the PPA as well. After all that is done, I'll tell kernel team to revert the bcache patch on Bionic, Focal and Groovy kernels since it is not needed and will reduce their delta and reduce chances of regressions over time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1861941 Title: bcache by-uuid links disappear after mounting bcache0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcache-tools/+bug/1861941/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1772556] Re: d-i netinstall fails due to missing apt-transport-https package
The VM on the left is using the current 18.04.4 LTS mini.iso provided from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/bionic-updates/main /installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/ with a date of 2020-01-30. The VM on the right is using the mini.iso I created that contains the test debootstrap package, from https://people.canonical.com/~mruffell/sf289200/ On both, I selected [Advanced Options] and then [Command Line Expert Install]. From there I answered the usual questions. When I was asked to configure the mirror, I selected "https" and then entered in a local mirror in my country, mirror.fsmg.org.nz. The VM on the left fails with the error message that apt-transport-https can't be found, and stops. The VM on the right installs the base system fine, and successfully installs the system. The test packages work. I will ask for my patches to be sponsored and hopefully we can get debootstrap fixed before the 18.04.5 LTS deadline. ** Attachment added: "Comparison of old mini.iso and test mini.iso" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debootstrap/+bug/1772556/+attachment/5395065/+files/Screenshot%20from%202020-07-23%2015-35-17.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772556 Title: d-i netinstall fails due to missing apt-transport-https package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debootstrap/+bug/1772556/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1888598] [NEW] pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake
Public bug reported: on a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 x64 install, I've noticed some troubling bugs with pulseaudio after putting my system to sleep and then waking it up. these bugs aren't present on a fresh boot, only after resuming from sleep: - it forgets which sound output device it's set to, and always reverse to the motherboard's S/PDIF output. - I have two devices connected to my video card, one is a displayport monitor, and one is a home theater receiver via HDMI. it confuses the two, and randomly switches which device it thinks is capable of surround sound. - it sometimes refuses to switch to the correct audio device, and just resets any choice back to the internal S/PDIF, until the system is rebooted. as you can imagine, this a pretty frustrating state of affairs. I think that's what I was aiming for with: gsettings set org.gnome.mutter center-new-windows true It likely works better in Wayland because that treats each monitor separately. These cryptsetup warnings and errors are indeed due to my zfs use, I see them several times a month for the life of the machine, roughly the last ten months. [Bug 1565744] Re: "Mutex file:${APACHE_LOCK_DIR} default" should be disabled by default on Linux because it leads to errors
** Description changed: [Impact] The default apache2.conf causes apache to issue streams of error messages about deadlocks acquiring the SSL session cache lock. Users are still reporting seeing this flaw in production (Xenial-based) hosts. [Test Case] Reproduction steps TBD. Problem exhibits on high load systems. Verification will need to be done by those seeing the issue in production. [Regression Potential] Since this only changes the config installed by default, it won't impact existing installations, however behaviors to watch for would be SSL-related or configuration-related oddnesses. [Fix] Backport a fix applied in bionic and newer, that modifies the makes Apache use pthread mutexes by default on Linux, or fctnl on other architectures that lack robust pthread muxexes. + + [Other Info] + Users should be aware that if they haven't changed /etc/apache2/apache2.conf this will automatically apply the fix, but users that have customized apache2.conf may still need to add it manually. [Original Report] OS: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Kernel: 3.13.0-79-generic x86_64 Apache: 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.5 In the default Apache 2.4 config on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is the following set in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Mutex file:${APACHE_LOCK_DIR} default (/debian/config-dir/apache2.conf in http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/apache2/apache2_2.4.7-1ubuntu4.5.debian.tar.gz) which leads to the following output of "apache2ctl -t -D DUMP_RUN_CFG": Mutex default: dir="/var/lock/apache2" mechanism=fcntl This leads constantly to a lot of these warning/emergency messages on a server with 200 busy worker threads, 100 Requests/s, 300 KB/s: [Tue Mar 08 16:08:18.596653 2016] [ssl:warn] [pid 8339:tid 140182179256064] (35)Resource deadlock avoided: AH02026: Failed to acquire SSL session cache lock [Wed Mar 09 07:09:31.099331 2016] [mpm_worker:emerg] [pid 26526:tid 139668485949184] (35)Resource deadlock avoided: AH00273: apr_proc_mutex_lock failed. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1888570/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. Hi Brian, I installed the proposed package and tried to test this. My results were mixed. I used the touchscreen for a while without issues. But then xorg crashed (and this report was a crash in gnome-shell). Apport refused to submit the bug reports because apparently there were a few not-updated packges (there weren't yesterday).
